$3.99! Krikee!! Why not just give the fraken cd away and count it as a sale? Well, again the stench of desperation permeates the
"juvenile" attitude of the orb..."Come down to Crazy orb's...Where we are slashing everything!...in fact, were giving everything away!" Well, it does make sense...everything about the orbs world is so "de-valued"...I also bet with every cd sold, you get a free bottle of "Kidman's Magic Ginger Ale Elixir"...it'll absolutely cure your inquensible thirst... or simply satisfy your sweet tooth! Yeah, kidman and the orb...about as fortifying as..cotton candy or Indian ginger ale...

I could totally see this collecting dust in the bargain bin and a kid saying "Mommy, who is this??" The mommy says "Was, baby... he WAS a man."

...ps...

...just another thought, with this blatant... even shallow and manipulative attempt at "rigging" the cd sales...the orb has apparently learned alot about "promotion" from the even shallower and blatant PR mongering kidman. Basically with this ridiculously...and very expected cost cutting of the cd by Capital is an admittance that the orb is truly a hard sell. So, basically what this means is that if the orb's cd, lets say...sells 1 million copies...that is actually only about half a mill copies sold..or even a third...cause you got to think at this price alone...the monkeylanders will probably buy two or 3 copies just to "fatten up" the sales numbers. Simply, just as a double cd sold is counted as two sold because the price is basicaly doubled...slashing the price of the orb's cd only diminishes the "value" of the cd sale. So just wonder what it'll mean if for example the cd only sells say half a mill copies? Can anyone say "UBER LOSER?" Or even 750 k copies sold? Yeah, the orb is already a "diminishing" return for Capital no matter what!

Keith on the discount rack already! At that price, no need for anyone to be without it LOL.

I must say that I really like the CD.

I think this is a Capitol Records marketing thing. Dierks Bentley also did this

Smart Girl said...

Another marketing manipulation....Keith isn't the only one to do it, however what will be interesting to note is how long the discount lasts, any longer than 7 days and I'll wager a bet that Mr. Urban is in trouble.

I like most of the songs I've heard too. I've yet to pick it up, but I will.

The thing that strikes me is that Keith is really hanging on to the "youth" thing - his "hip" shoes in the pictures, his lyrics, the writing of NK/Sunday's name on his hand (in the CD jacket). It's very high schoolish. That's why the lyrics seem juvenile ... esp. Sweet Thing / Kiss a Girl. The man is an 14 yr old boy in a 41 yr old man's body.

Fortunately, I don't hear the lyrics initially. It's the melody, the arrangement, the rhythms, the vocals and I think they're good in general (from what I've heard).

Til Summer Comes Around is outstanding, IMO.

Alot of Nicole's DVDs are heavily discounted these days, particulary THE INVASION, BEWITCHED & FUR. They are permanent discounts. Wont be long before AUSTRALIA joins the discount bin too.

Keith's defensive insistence in interviews of how he likes hooky songs that are radio-ready tells me he has no faith in his ability to be an artist who stretches. He wants radio play, at any cost, and will act/dress/sing like a tweener if need be to get it.

And CapNash's pricing of this album at $4 shows they have no faith in him to sell...unless he's offered at a bargain basement price. They might dress it up as a recession-busting tactic, but it looks so pathetic on a musician who is supposed to be a respected player in the industry.

This is seriously pathetic. He really IS in free-fall...

THE FACTS:

1)Amazon does this for a ton of major releases.

2)That price is only good if you download it.

3)The offer is only good for March 31st.

4)Amazon makes all of this clear.

Manipulating the facts for your own amusement so you can have something to show for yourselves is just PATHETIC.

I hope you like the sound of silence. I can hear a pin drop in this place.

Ta ta from
Music City residents who love Keith!

Well, so now that the orb is in desperate PR mongering mode...he has decided to take the example of trying to exploit his kid to help his career from kidman's last PR parade of their kid in front of the paps while shilling for the Box office failure that was Australia last year...now the "supposedly private" orb has been reduced to pr shilling his kid...

Keith Urban Dishes More About Daughter Sunday's Name

...oh yeah... how adorable...the baby was named after the "loneliest" day of the week... and now, gosh darn it..it's now the happiest day of the year! AAAHHHHHHHH. How about a big AHHHHHH for pr exploitation of his kid...couldnt have explained that at any other time right orb? You had to wait for the cd to drop to shill your kid for the sake of the cd...no doubt kidman is so proud. Now that's class...oh yeah, "my kid is the happiest day of the week now y'all...so dont forget to buy the cd now!" What total...and "private" PR class! So, how soon does the "Orb out and about with baby sunri" photo ops begin to appear? Or would that be too tacky and simply for kidman to expoit?

...hey, how did "TinEar23" get in here... thought those idiotic juvenile commenter bashers were frowned upon...was not, and never will be a fan of the jerky, petty mushed mouthed... monkeylanders frothing at the mouth over their fallen hasbeen bango twanger orb. Keep the vibes of the patent failures of the monkeyboy and goatgirl onto the sites where they appeciate that level of blind and meaningless blather...please...

maclen said...

...pps...

...oh, is it because that new "revealing" blog seems to be...once again...offline...and all blog entries...once again, scrubbed...(What? Did someone, evidently lucid and thoughtful enough, actually take my advice and report that site of possible blogger.com rules violation and got it yanked or suspended?...crossing fingers and repeating over and over..."please, please please!")...is that the reason for the petty and site mocking by the monkeylander tinEar23? I wonder will Urban Myths mods be working overtime to handle the many comments that they will be surely inundated with now that that "revealed" site seems to be once again...bankrupt of thought or ideas... or morals? Please mods, help keep my "outrage" to a minimum...I really liked the "grounded" quiet of the site lately...

I for one am very disopointed in him. I thought he wouldn't use his child to sell his CD. I didn't think he was as bad as Nicole. I hope the press goes after him just like they did Nicole when she use Sunday to sell her movie.

WEll, rememberwhen, I've always claimed that kidman's influence and now certainly her "career pr" and example has hurt the orb...as I commented earlier...I do, at some point, expect the orb to provide photo ops with his baby soon as well.

A440 said...

You know, I really don't mind him discussing the baby. Beats the hell out of his genuflecting at the alter of Kidman, as he is wont to do.

Verity said...

Yeah Brad Paisley doesn't use his child to sell records. And he doesn't put him on magazine covers. Or write songs about him. Yeah sure.

To maclen, or is it mackeral...did you think this was supposed to be your own little oasis for bashing?

Something smells like fish in here.

Well again A440, my main issue with the orb peddling this little fact about his daughter's name is not only that it is simply coming out for Promo reasons for his cd...as I said before...it was "saved" expressly for this purpose, cd shilling...while it seems kidman to this point, gets the photo ops with their daughter...the orb gets to reveal the "true meaning" of the name. Except that you'll recall in this People.com online story from back in july '08...

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20211126,00.html

The Secret Behind Baby Sunday Rose's Name Revealed!

...it claims kidman's dad said the name was his and his wifes idea to name her sunday...but now the orb says in a cd promo appearance its for the "loneliest day transformed to the happiest day! And realize this is People mag's site...one of kidman's main story leaking sources...along with JJ and GG's photo ops...or offial photo releasers...they both cant be right can they? the dad says she's "named after early 20th-century artist's muse Sunday Reed, PEOPLE has confirmed. Her middle name, Rose, is a nod to Urban's late grandmother Rose." ...so will at some point will her middle name, Rose...will the explaination also change at some future point...when kidman or the orb are shilling another film or cd...or dvd?

I honestly think the $3.99 download is a Capitol Marketing scheme, has nothing to do with Keith or NK. It's all about the record company manipulating the market. We have to remember it's a business. Just like the deals that are being made with I-tunes only paying to complete the album download, or deals with Walmart, Target or Best Buy for albums with different added features and price discounts for opening week. It's about gimmicks for selling albums. I think the record companies are becoming desperate in these had times.

Actually, if you've been reading my comments over the past 2 years here, I've been pretty clear that I respond to comments in kind. Now, Ive been pretty disposed to ignore the insults and cracks about me personally or my commments...but I still have a soft spot for cracks made about the site itself, or cracks about online users...and feel a very protective need to defend it. As for Paisly "using his child to sell cds" that's an issue for a paisly site...I just dont have an interest in commenting on paisly's PR practices here...unless I beleive that he's making the orb look "lacking in any way"

...and thanks...I love mackerel..especially on my pizza!

Hey, perspone...it's been a while, huh? Well, actually, the music biz was well into declining music sales long before this recent economic bubble burst last year. Instead of trying to address sales problems lucidly or forsightfully...they simply blamed and then targeted individual online "illegal downloaders...RIAA themselves, no less, went after individual downloaders and took them for their lifesavings of 3 or 4 thousands bucks each! And even then never bothered to tackle or set up the more logical task of how to profit from online downloads. They let others do it, like iTunes, who smartly cornered that market more or less, and now the record companies are now left whining about how iTunes are only charging 99cents for each song. And surely, these gimmecky and discounted "special" music price tags...like the orbs $3.99 deal, seems like a pretty chinsey act hoping to succeed with an artist, the orb...who's cd sales in fact have also been in evident decline the past couple of years as well.

Aren't they all though? LOL.

I have finally heard the album and I have to say, I am disappointed...I liked more songs initially on LPATWCT...but some may grow on me over time - maybe. This is worse than LPATWCT unfortunately...I was hoping for more of a mix between the "pop" and the "old stuff"...oh well.

ITA. It's about time he started talking about his daughter now that he has one - IMO, it would be odd not to.

maclean, wasn't it you who complained about the 150 comments taken up about the Just Stupid Blog with the E posters - (which you participated in fully btw)...I thought we were keeping posts here relevant to THIS blog?

Do we really need to keep giving them our attention? They've finally found something else to keep them busy so we can continue on here with our evil plotting against KUNK's union...let's let them be, shall we? You're gonna bring them all back over here again and it's been so peaceful!

On second thought, I think I'll give Keith a complete pass for discussing Sunday on Ellen.

HE didn't bring up the subject of the baby, Ellen did. And it would have been unreasonable to not answer. I don't think he's pimping his progeny. He's just answering a
"How come...?" question.

Imahick said...

I don't think Keith has pimped out Sunday Rose yet. He has answered questions, but I haven't seen him carrying her around to a museum for the paps to take a picture of. He made a couple of comments about her, and I, for one, would expect a new Dad to.

I have now listened to the CD in its entirity. I actually like it. I found a couple of the songs really beautifully done...his vocals are strong and the arrangements are very interesting. Rhythms are unique. I don't know...it beats LP&TWCT to me. Other than Thank You, it doesn't really make me think of NK, and even Thank You is a lovely song. It disturbs me...to think of anyone so dependent on another human being for his very life. But it's a beautiful song.

notachance said...

I have listened repeatedly and my first impression is still the same. Keith has said that song placement on album is supposed to be a journey, well - I didn't get to go anywhere. He's stuck in one spot and can't get out of it.

Aside from that, I do like some of the fare -

Hit The Ground Running #1
Til Summer Comes Around #2
Why It Feels So Long #3
I'm In, If Ever I Could Love #4

I do think Thank You is a beautiful song, but since the whole album is about love it's effect is just overkill. This could be really something special on a much more diverse album. I dare say even the diehard skeptics might even appreciate it for what it was then.

I wish he could grow as a person and write about other life experiences that would challenge us. He is in desperate need of a "man"cation, his feminine side is just toooooo strong anymore.

Overall, a 2.5 on the Richter scale.

Imahick said...

Notachance - I think you're right. More variety would have made it a much stronger album.

I believe that sadly, the album is a reflection of how totally dependent he is on NK. He is unable to think for himself or be himself as an individual outside of the relationship. It consumes his thoughts and so, his music reflects that. How can one focus on anything other than one's addiction?

That's why the song Thank You, although beautiful, is disturbing to me.

A440 said...

I, too, think "Thank You" is lovely and disturbing. That line "Now people say they'll stand beside you/they swear they'll never leave" makes me wonder: how many of his friends walked because he was simply too much trouble? Or did they walk because they'd been frozen out by His Muse?

(Or is he talking only of lovers?...)
