Do anyone else get the feeling that someone should have taken an iron to mutt's dress? She may have just slept in it on the plane trip over! Other than that...ho humm...
And Maclen ... looks like the annoying poses are back again. "Quick Keith the camera is on us, pretend you love me". Don't know why he is smiling, maybe hadn't seen the film yet? http://nicole-kidman-journey.blogspot.com/2010/09/nicoles-bunny-movie-is-out.html
All the pictures showed up immediately on JJ and GG of course. NK has wrecked her face. Shes ruined her eyes and her smile. (My opinion). It looks like Keith is indulging in some facial procedures too.
So this morning while I was checking into the blog, I noticed that in the new poll, Rate "Put You In A Song"..that "Love It" was actually LEADING....with 6 votes...over the next leading "Where's the Muse?" with only 5 votes...so...with my apologies to Urban Myths and the poll...I just decided to mess with the "cookie tossing" monkeys... NO DOUBT "robo-voting" the poll...and have just voted TWO MORE TIMES! LOok for the "Love It" option to suddenly surge in votes pretty soon. So, in MONKEYLAND tradition, I say...toss(delete) your cookies and vote again and agian, and give those ridiculous monkeys a taste of their own medicine!
Choice said... "And Maclen ... looks like the annoying poses are back again. "Quick Keith the camera is on us, pretend you love me". Don't know why he is smiling, maybe hadn't seen the film yet?"
I have absolutely NO IDEA Choice, what orb believes he gets out of this pathetic display. Clearly, this mismatched couple do nothing for each others "fanbase" so it's all pretty much a wash! But I dont expect either of these two "brain trusts" to realize that.
A full head of golden blonde highlights with gray whiskers - what an odd look and not a good one BTW. I bet Prada wants their dress back so she never wears it again. Her figure, or lack thereof, does not flatter the dress. Are we really sure she isn't wearing a king-size pillow case from her hotel room?
maclen, you have proven that the Monkeys sure can't stay away from this blog. We are asked why we write about KUNK if we don't like them, but yet, they love them and still come here to read the "hate". Why the interest in wanting to know what bad things are being said about those they worship? Is there a small voice inside of them that really wants to say they don't like his wife, the way he has changed, or say it ain't so, they don't like his new music? We are here to let them know that it is okay not to approve and like everything in the world of KUNK. It is okay to have an opinion and Karma won't bite you in the butt for saying how you really feel!
I wonder if he'll go to a competitor or start his own label. And a second I wonder: what are the odds he's got some halfway decent songs that he's holding on to for a new label?
Tara said... "He told a reporter last night that Get Closer is his last for Capitol Nashville. So he doesn't have a record deal. Interesting."
Not surprising at all, if true, Tara. As Ive been pointing out since orb's lackluster sales of Whole crazy, you cannot sell LESS cds, and expect to be kept around. Orb CANNOT get a better deal with capnash with those numbers, it's that simple. And as GET! Loser! is showing, orb was given LESS time to write and record it...because the budget was less than what capnash was willing to spend. And as is also apparent, GET! Loser! WILL get that "striped-down aproach" for release...
"Capitol has targeted November for the release of a new Keith Urban album. One label insider suggests the project will take a stripped-down approach, though Capitol/EMI Nashville president/CEO Mike Dungan says he’s learned to wait until Urban is done with an album to evaluate it stylistically."
...well, it seems the prez of capnash, Dungan, HAS NOT evaluated the orb's cd POSITIVELY, if in fact it is true that orb is out at capnash...stay tuned for future info...
..oh yeah, just wanted to give props to my fellow "Urban Mythbusters" who have now raised "Where's the Muse? option to now a total of 10 votes on the orb's new single poll! Thanks for taking the "cookie tossing" challenge I mentioned to mock the monkeys hilarious "tendency" to "play the tables!" Toss away!
Tara, did she buy him his own label? Considering what he had to offer to CapNash the past two years I am surprised they would want him to continue. And if this single is any indication.....
Tara, I'm not surprised Capitol is ending their association with him. They wanted to end it after his Greatest Hits CD, but Borman talked them out of it. Keith failed again with this new CD. I bet that is why Capitol came out and said there was going to be no bells and whistles with this CD. It will be plain. They didn't want to put to much money into it. Now the fun begins. Any record label out there watch out. Not only do you get Keith Urban, but you get his wife too. How many will jump to bring him on board?
Is it just me, or does it appear that she has actual animation on her face in some of the press conference shots? How long must that have taken to learn?
Has there been talk of a distributor since they seem to be frothing at the mouth over the movie?
Let's just say orb gets his own label, what-Cletusrecords-can you imagine the artists he'd employ?
mikki said... "Tara, why would Keith say that now before his new CD is even out?"
Yes, I'm still wary to completely believe it until there is some confirmation, mikki. But as I commented IF it's true, I would not be surprised at all...for all the aforementioned reasons. But, I do recall that Tara has been correct on info before it is independantly confirmed. For instance, I recall last November when mutt tesitified in DC and was then scheduled to travel with the UN team to Haiti to help set up a telephone system...Tara made a comment asking if it was true that mutt had canceled HER trip to Haiti. I hadnt even noticed any rumor online yet of that, but sure enough, the story came out that mutt had canceled shortly after on google news. So, I quess I would tend to believe her statement...as I also AGREE that that would be totally in line with all Ive been saying about orb and Capnash! But again, we will have to wait and see.
"Urban is working on a new album of all new material. He’s licensed it to Capitol Records, but his deal his over. And he’s happy to be a free man in such a crazy record business.
...yes...soooo happy to be free from capnash money and PR budgets! As I commented YEARS ago, orb will be soooo content to be selling his CD-R albums out of his trunk in front of ihops all over the country!!!
...yeah, so friedman, huh...yeah I'll still need a CREDIBLE source for comfirmation of orb getting dumped by capnash!
hoosierlady said... "Let's just say orb gets his own label, what-Cletusrecords-can you imagine the artists he'd employ?"
PUHLEEEESSS hoosier! Make that, "BABYGIRL RECORDS" HA! And his roster? BFF napalm, of course...and ONLY napalm...and they'll collaborate on an epic double album.."The Confederacy shall Rise Again!"
Why would Keith talk to that suck ass? I have to wonder if it is a number of things...
for how many months was Keith talking about putting out new music in the new year? Then in the matter of five days they have a title and release date.
why would he send out all those miserable Keith in the studio shots?
Why did Cap Nash put out the statement they did with Dungan (who really has been a savior to Keith) signature?
He has had some clashes in the past- remember he wanted faster car to be the first single from Pain and they said no.
Buxton and Hughes are Cap Nash artists was this single forced on him too?
one of his biggest foes, Joe Galante has retired from Sony Nashville- does Keith move to Miranda and Kenny's home.
starting his own label- Keith used to be cheap is he still? Kidman funding a label- she is having a hard enough time trying to get back in Hweirds good graces. I don't think she would invest.
Why say this is the final CD? McGraw did a similar thing with his company even told people not to buy the record. Does Keith know this is a dog?
lots of questions but I am thinking he may have left Cap Nashville and that in the long run they weren't going to stop him. They have Lady A and others. He has been with them for almost 13 years.
Tara, so you see this as Keith's decision to leave Capitol? I don't see NK paying for him to start his own label. According to his fans, hes wealthy enough to do that on his own. But more than likely, he already has a deal with another label.
Well...there ARE basically TWO opposing reasons...why a musician would leave their recording label...an actor would leave their film studio...or an athlete would leave their team. And they are...because they have become so crazy successful in their field...that they can "play the field"...and then ask... and recieve the crazy money...from another agency. OR...they have "declined" in production for their current agency...they are unable to ask and receive...for what they previously were able to get...so they are then forced to look at "different" options. My opinion of the reason why orb MAY be, or soon may be out of his recording contract at Capnash is clear. Now, even if the orb does end up leaving capnash for another label...the true reason will be just as open to individual interpretation...BUT what IS NOT open to individual interpretation is the orb numbers. And I will always submit, of course, that my interpretation is the true and correct one.
Mikki said "Too bad she can't let the air out of those lips!" Her mouth area appears to have been totally reconstructured...not as gummy, along with veneers and possible jawline reduction surgery...no longer a case of "...Two bits of flesh that ooze out from either side when she overdoes it with the needle and smiles too hard...." though they're still there....

I can't believe how some have been able to obtain tickets, but more have not been able to do so...what is the explanation behind this...why has it been so difficult...I really don't want to have to pay 3 times the amount of a ticket (as I have many times in the past) when I should be able to obtain my pre-sale tickets)."
...well, your getting the gist of things... and there are two more pages of frustrated monkeys! This next comment says it all...
jeanetteTK says... "This is why the ticketmaster code system does not work. The only ones who are happy are the brokers. They get the tickets and make the money. It's supposed to be for charity and the brokers are making the money.
What these poor monkeys are unwilling to face up to of course...is that orb has a "deal" with Ticketmaster to "scalp" most of the tickets...as that investigative story I reposted clearly uncovered...is that most of the "presale tickets" WERE ALREADY sold..."presold" before even the "special coded monkey-members presale!" That is why even many monkey-members are having problems pulling tickets! Try to get the gist of it monkeys...even tickets allocated for the monkeys fansie site last year...were sold for over $400! But take comfort monkeys...Orb's people "cannot deal with the issue of "scalpers" ...because it is they who are scalping!
Maclen I remember that DEFYING GRAVITY was No. 1 for a very short time in USA. It then moved down the charts rapidly (the same thing happened in Australia). Do you think that is why the record company don't want to keep him beyond the new album? Also, did we ever find out if DEFYING GRAVITY was his pet name for Nicole?
PS. Did everyone hear that Oprah is coming to Australia to do a show in December? And guess who is tipped to be on the show? Yes bloody Nicole, who doesnt even live here anyway. What's the bet Keith baby will want to go on the show to, to plug his album. Nicole is an embarrassment to our country, I wish Oprah would interview other decent aussies like certain blog creators.
Keith may have done himself some major damage by giving Friedman this scoop. I can just imagine that serious music journalists or critics or even just people in the industry who believe themselves his friends -- people like Jimmy Carter or Gerry House -- are going to be seriously pissed off at his decision.
I mean, of all the people to reveal this to! A real journalist would have questioned him and gotten some details. Friedman just mentioned it in passing in an article about how utterly brilliant Nicole is.
I can't tell if Keith had some agenda here or simply doesn't give a damn. Either way, this just may come back to bite him on the ass.
I don't think he left on his own terms. He mentioned being free of a record label. Was Capital THAT bad to him? I don't think they were getting his music either. They have found replacement entertainers that can fill Keith's shoes and then some.
maclen, when are the Monkeys going to wake up and smell the coffee. This happens to them on EVERY pre-sale, but yet they keep paying money for their memebership fees that gets them NOTHING!
A440, you nailed it on the head. Why did he give the news to a Hollywood reporter versus someone from his "hometown" (I'll use that word loosely) of Nashville?
My guess - he's looking to cross over completely.
Someone mentioned earlier that it looks like Keith had work done on his face. Can anyone zoom in on the picture containing her deformed profile (second to last picture posted) or are there any close-ups of him because it does look like his lower eye area has been stretched and pulled.
I am of two minds here. I think that he either has a deal somewhere else or he is telling everyone he is available.
I don't think he is trying to reup with Cap Nash as some are suggesting you don't run to the press when your sales are that bad and tell people you are happy to be free.
I would not doubt that the Kurbans will be in Oz for Oprah. Rabid Hole may be in theaters by then and the record will be out all over the world so why not- I don't think they are the best that can be offered. Although as I am writing this will Kidman share a stage with Keith??? I kinda doubt it.
also Kidman lie 1 million something she said at the press for the film yesterday that she recently took Keith to his first subtitled film and he liked reading movies. Actually in an interview before Keith drank the Kool-Aide he said Das Boat was one of his favorite films. I do believe that has subtitles as does her epic Birthday Girl in a few parts. LIAR!
Keith probably has a trick or two up his sleeve. He already mentioned that he is planning a massive tour next year and is adding at least another guitaris. He overstayed his welcome at CapNash. His last two CD's were horrible in my opinion and I know he is capable of much better. His flip flop atitude will not get him far. He thinks he can fall back on the arms of his charming wife and I think CapNash has had it with that flippant behavior. Besides they have Lady A and Dierks who care about their music enough to make it worth their while. I think Keith got way too big for his britches. He may have his own record label, possibly called Baby Girl Records and/or he may even have signed on already. I don't think it will matter where he goes, as long as the music is fluffernutter, it won't sell as well as his Golden Road, or Be Here CD's. I think he needs to go back to that winning formula to get his foot back in somebody's door after he takes it out of his mouth.
I agree with you maclen. Keith is either being forced out, which means Capitol is not willing to invest any more money in him, or hes been shown the door. Record labels make their money off of CD sales. Business is business and hes not producing. His sales continue to decline.
I agree with you LindaMarie. I think the ego took over the artist when he hooked up with NK. He really thinks he won the grand prize when he married her! It hasn't been about the music since.
Look at this from a long-term perspective: Nicole involves herself in RH, which Keith admits later, was a difficult role for her emotionally (read: she was miserable to be around).
Kidman later fires her longtime PR and management reps. Starts out with all new people. She's miserable to be around.
Keith plans his last album for a label he knows he is leaving. He's miserable to be around.
They purchase high-end property in NYC right at the time both their careers are in flux. Must've been a fun time chez KUNK making that decision.
He deals with falling numbers of units sold and accusations of having sold out. She deals with questions about her (a) face, (b) career prospects and (c) baby. Also, he wins awards that she cannot match: People's Choice, Grammy, etc. She gets to sit back and watch. More fun.
Now, it looks like she'll do well with this film in the short term, but questions remain as to whether this is a reversal of her career or merely a glitch in the downward spiral. She's crunching time in terms of Sunday's schooling. Unless the baby is to be home-schooled, the window of opportunity to further her career is closing.
He gets to look for a new employer or learn the art of self-employment. Tough gig either way.
Like I said, it's a stellar time to be KUNK. What are the odds this marriage will start to shred publicly?
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Keith and Nicole do appear on Oprah. I know, ya'll think I'm crazy now, but this gets good.
This will be the first time we see the two of them interact with each other longer than a red carpet interview. That alone will be worth a million laughs, and then speaking of a million, did you know Aussie taxpayers are paying $3 million dollars to have Oprah and her show broadcasted from Australia? Won't that tick off the Aussies if they have to pay the bill for this show, and then Keith and Nicole are guests on the show. Again, taxpayers will take it up the you-know-what for the sake of Nicole!

Yeah Choice, orb's Defying Sales was BARELY at #1 it's first week of sales. The next week it had fallen 3 or 4 spots. It also sold an anemic 170k cds and just BARELY outsold Prince's cd which was ONLY SOLD at Target stores! Clearly, I dont see orb selling as many cds this time out...capnash would be wise to dump orb!
blue sky said... "maclen, when are the Monkeys going to wake up and smell the coffee. This happens to them on EVERY pre-sale, but yet they keep paying money for their memebership fees that gets them NOTHING!"
Yes, blue sky, that IS a very good point. No doubt a part of the orb's declining fanbase is this "monkeland scalping scheme"...which you have to realize...IS NOT unique simply to this "benefit for orb"...but is the NORM for all of his concerts and for even his monkey-members! Last night as I read through the comments about how they couldnt get tickets, someone tried to excuse the orb by stating, "YOu have to remember, this IS NOT an "orb concert", he's simply "appearing" in it!" Yes, right...this IS NOT an "orb concert?"...which is why, last year, he WAS able to perform the FIRST FULL HOUR of it with HIS BAND, while all the other performers got only a few songs in...AND why the orb WAS ABLE to be the ONLY performer to have a video feed at HIS fansie site! Which IS why most of the performers from last year ARE NOT appearing this year!

JackieInGA said... "What I want to know is, who has all the seats that weren't put up on the presales so far? Are most of the seats in the building going on sale at the public sale Friday, because you sure can't buy a thing from ticketmaster right now! I wish I was in the know about how these things work."
Well, again...the REASON so many monkey-members CANT get tickets is pretty clear...THERE ARENT ANY TICKETS LEFT FOR THEM. Monkeyland HAS A DEAL WITH BROKERS/SCAPLERS so that they get the tickets IMMEDIATELY and clearly, BEFOREHAND...and the monkey-members who even began to attempt to get special coded presale tickets the second the presale began through their membership are simply told...THERE ARE NO TICKETS LEFT! And as I mentioned earlier, orb has apparently been basically doing this for years...it's just that the supposed "special event" of this so called "For the Hall" concert makes all these monkey-members EXTRA sensitive and frustrated at not being able to even BUY any tickets!
Even when NK knows she has to be humble and kiss ass to save her career she can't do it without playing the International moviestar surrounded by bodyguards. http://laineygossip.com/Nicole_Kidman_Keith_Urban_promote_Rabbit_Hole_at_TIFF_15sept10.aspx?CatID=0&CelID=0
Yeah, thats enough to inflate Keith's ego and convince him that he won the lottery when he married her!! Who needs Capital Nashville!

WTF! $3 million! That really sucks! I'm just speechless, and that is hard to do!
I'm popping the corn as fast as I can, may I bring you a drink as I come back?
I am hoping you guys will watch this Oprah thing for me and report, I will be spared again, right? If not, (shudder), I do not know if I can. . .
Linda Marie you have summarized this the best so far, yes, flippant behavior and utter and complete lack of respect for his fans, and the genre in general, if you ask me. I do not know much about him, but it did seem to bump him up a notch in his own opinion when the nuptials where exchanged. He seems to take advantage of the situations and of the people, especially those poor, misguided monkey people. I almost feel sorry for them, but you think they would have figured it out by now.
So, in the return of "Late Night Musings"...the orb edition...
...So last week it was announced that orb's next cd would drop in November...and no doubt the orb is at this moment scrambling to finish the OTHER HALF of the album in the next 3 months...AND as I've previously mentioned...orb stated it took the past 9 months to complete the first half...which I believe. And granted, the orb has also stated that ALL the songs of the album HAVE been written and recorded and I suppose with the mixing and overdubs left to complete it. But again...WRITTEN AND ALREADY RECORDED...in 9 months time? Well that would certainly explain orb's shabby impersonation of the bay city rollers of his first single! So, now onto that single, Put you in a song...released this past monday...and as I mentioned previously...again...released WITHOUT a very important component....NO VIDEO. Orb is surely consistant about NOT releasing a video to his singles...which is basically just PR for the main show...the album. Now, if you notice...there are now 3 FAN MADE videos for orb's singles here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIvOq7rgmNo
...and you can clearly see the other two fan made videos...and their views so far? Well one has 11k views...another has only 5k views and the other only 4k views. Earlier, of course I compared orbs videos to swifty...who always has a video when her singles are released...and her single released 2 week ago now has 4.9 MILLION views! Now of course some may say, it's not fair to compare them...because of the time difference of their release. Well, so take a look at this ...swifty, who debuted a new song on the VMAs, Innocent...there are now 3 fan made videos posted on youtube 2 and 3 days ago...have views of 47k, 108k and 104k views! It seems orb, who ridiculously is trying to ape swifty's "music style" with his "bubblegum pop"...should simply instead try to emulate her PR style...it is most certainly working way better for her than orb's is working for him!
maclen, I really do enjoy reading all of the posts from Monkeyville that you are finding. But what I enjoy even more is that the little Monkeys are just so mad at the big, bad, mean "scalpers" for taking all of their tickets through the pre-sales. Little do they know that they have scalpers amongst their community. Their fellow Monkeys that they think are their internet friends are the ones buying these tickets - not using them - but selling them on eBay or wherever and making a huge killing on their ticket sales. Karma is a b!tch, isn't it?
More doom for Keith's CD sales - Taylor is doing some special CD to be sold at Target only that contains some extra perks.
A440, I don't know what in Kidman's past leads you to believe that once Sunday starts school, she will have to power down her career and be there to help her with her homework and get her on and off the bus everyday. She didn't do that with the adopted children, why would she now? In fact, well before Sunday was even 2yrs old they were already looking at schools for her. One of them being a boarding school. My own personal opinion. Sunday will be sent to a Catholic boarding school the second she is old enough to be admitted. She'll come home on weekends. Too bad her Dad works a lot of weekends. Of course, if her Mother is off filming in another country, she probably won't see a lot of her either. She'll spend her weekends with the staff. There will always be the Holidays and Summer vacation. Although, I'm sure a good portion of her Summer's will be spent at some sort of camp, doing something for some charity, to show her just how good her life is. So see the Sunday going to school "situation' is handled. No one has to give up anything.
Maclen wrote..... "Which IS why most of the performers from last year ARE NOT appearing this year!"
This is not true. They never intended to have the same acts every year but keep beating that dead horse. Last year it was said he could only get the people who openned for him to play and no elders of country. This year he gets same of the elders, Charley Pride, Dolly Parton and Alan Jackson and it's said he couldn't get the same people from last year or the newer acts to play. It's really ridiculous the way you twist things around to fit your agenda. He's mixing it up, so that the people who went last year see a different show then the one they saw last year.
What was the real purpose for bringing this child into the world? After what 123xyz said, I don't know how anybody can respect these two or have any admiration for them. I know I for one will not put money into their pockets just so their daughter can be raised a very lonely child. This is how you treat the child that you yearned for all of your life?
I read once where Keith said that Sunday Rose will not have to want for anything in her life. Well, I bet she will want parents as she grows up.

Yes, blue sky, that part especially makes it hilarious to me! The monkey's crying and wailing about those scalpers...or as they call them, "brokers" preventing them from seeing their precious "keithy"...when IT IS actually their precious "keithy" who is totally sticking it to them! It is hard to beleive that the comparatively small numbers of members at monkeyland trying to order tickets through the fansie site...COULDNT get tickets! You would think monkeyland's so called limit to 2 or 4 tickets per member would solve that problem...but it is clear that the policy IS NOT being enforced...and why would it..EVERYONE is into getting their gouged profits! Even the orb...if not through the exorbitant "package deals"...or the claims of being able to get tickets if you simply "become a PAYING member" of monkeyland...or simply having your own network of "in house" scalpers! Just ask those monkey-members I posted above!
...you notice all those monkey-members who COULDNT GET TICKETS have stopped posting...AND NOW...all the "monkeyland scalpers" are coming out of the wood work...mysteriously, with all these tickets THEY CANT USE and are WILLING TO SELL!

Well, this scalper...I mean monkey doesnt specify which package...so...is this the "I'm in" package that goes for $1500...the "Making Memories" package that goes for $2500...or "Once In a Lifetime" package that goes for 3000?!! AND this monkey is just WILLING to just GIVE this package away as well, right? Right??
123, I'm stunned and stand corrected. I'd heard a while back that KUNK had already looked at Catholic schools for her. It didn't dawn on me that they were boarding schools.
I honestly didn't think Keith would stoop that low. This is disheartening.
HA! Yes, mikki...it's the "last gasp!" Now, my point on the "monkeyland scalpers" is how this clearly goes "counterpoint" to what the orb intended when he announced this whole "benefit for orb" last year. I clearly saw through all the PR BS...making the announcement at a live show...scheduling the show in the heat of the CMA awards voting, etc. Clearly, orb arranged it all to be a huge personal promotion for the orb..."Wow, what a great humanitarian he is"..."He is declared a hero by the Hall organization"...he is "the highest moneyraiser in the whole universe!"Just shovel that someplace else. I submit this whole "monkeyland scalping" debacle hurts the orb MORE than it helps him. Sure, the orb can "politic" with the HAll organization and get a stream of "words of praise and gratitude"...or he can help out the Grammy org. in 2009...for another Grammy win in 2010 for a song off of the pathetic Defying sales! But what the scalping of the tickets for the "benefit for orb" does...is it "alienates" the last few remaining audience for this album...and that is the monkeys! And as I mentioned, it is NOT JUST this "benefit for orb" that the gouging of the monkey-members by the fansie site itself occurs...but I'm sure it occurs in all of orb's live shows! So, no doubt that accounts for the numerous bleeding of his fanbase that the orb has been experiencing since 2006!
A440, it disappoints me as well but at the same time, I don't think Keith has a whole lot of say when it comes to Sunday or anything else in this relationship. I think Keith goes along with her leading the way and afterall she's already a parent, so she would know best. Again let me say that what I posted above here in this post and my last post is based on my opinion only.
How close to Platinum is Defying Gravity? posted on: September 15, 2010
TNUrbanite posted: "All I can find through Wikipedia is that Defying Gravity has sold 891,000 copies as of June 2010. I'm wondering how many since then and how close? Checked RIIA site but doesn't show sales numbers for this album--just shows chart positions. Anyone know or know a website that keeps up with this?
lindaw37 responds... "Someone on here (Sueann, maybe??) said that she'd read where Capitol had shipped the last 100,000 CD's for sale, and 'apparently' that's supposed to indicate that the label has 'delivered' the million albums for certification. I wish I knew where she read that, although it does 'sound' legitimate.
urbangirl13 posted... "It was James on the CMT Board to told us about DG being platinum because of that 100,000 shipment by CN.I don't know why RIAA isn't showing DG as platinum yet. I think I recall that CN has to request the certification and I bet there is a fee involved. Could be wrong because my memory isn't what it used to be so anyone that knows more, please jump in."
Well, unfortunatlely for these monkeys...a simple check over at the RIAA website explains...
"Recordings become eligible for certification 30 days after initial street date. Audio and music video titles may be requested for award certification starting 30 days after product is commercially available to consumers."
Now that "30 days after initial street date" is important...for as a quick check at wikipedia explains...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_certification
Certification is not automatic; for an award to be made, the record label must request certification and pay a fee to have the sales of the recording audited. The audit is conducted against net shipments after returns (most often an artist's royalty statement is used), which includes albums sold directly to retailers and one-stops, direct to consumer sales (music clubs and mail order) and other outlets."
Which, again unfortunately for these monkeys...DOESNT mean that Defying sales will AUTOMATICALLY be certified Platinum in a few days or weeks SIMPLY because capnash has SHIPPED 100k cds to music store outlets. But after 30 days the RIAA will conduct an audit...basically, counting how many cds capnash shipped out WERE RETURNED to capnash...and the balance of cds THAT were ACTUALLY SOLD will be counted in the cert of platinum. In other words...if capnash shipped out 100k cds to be sold...and say, 50k cds are then RETURNED to capnash...that means that only 50k cds were sold...and DS DID NOT go platinum yet! But I realize how it not yet reaching platinum would worry some monkeys...as I commented last year, when Defying sales was falling down the charts so quickly...and I was finding sales numbers...and the cd was only selling at about a rate of 5 to 6k cds a week...it would take it quite a LONG time to ever reach the 1mil sales mark! Well, it is 18 months later and it hasnt reached that 1mil mark. And I dont believe it will. Now that the monkeys have a new single to be preoccupied with...and a new album due in 2 1/2 months...and this "benefit for orb" draining their incomes...Defying sales will live up to it's name! Now, as to the monkeys who were NOT able to get tickets on the monkeysite for the "benefit for orb" recently one might think, "Well, they SAVED money NOT being able to buy tickets...so they'll have the spending cash to surely buy the single and the new cd!" BUt my contention is...How many of those monkeys frustated by the "monkey-scalpers" will be now turned off to the orb? Tell me, you think the orb, with his recent cd sales problems...can he afford to lose even a few more customers? Things to ponder...
Do most Austrailian kids go to public schools as in the U.S., where you go in the morning and come home every afternoon, or is it common to send the kids away to boarding school.
I apologize for being so ignorant regarding your culture.
My opinion on this situation. I believe that Sunday Rose was brought into this world as a PR tool and Kidman's FU to Cruise. She had to get married before him, she had to have a child, she yearned for it, to prove to the world that she is still desirable by some fool and that she was not the one with the "problem", therefore the inside child.
I don't think Keith thinks. I also believe he never wanted children and was a sore point in this marriage. I don't think he has a say or even cares where Sunday goes to school or where she is. After all how many times do they go out eat and she is never with them. And the twits who tweet? Please, in this day and age everybody has a cell phone with a camera, you would think somebody would take a shot. If they could type a tweet, they can take a picture.
I also believe, after listening to that song again and after hearing him say this record is all about "her", I wonder if Keith's simplicity is by design. I refuse to believe that after GR or BH were million dollar sellers, he meets up with his once in a lifetime and becomes a blubbering dope. I thought when you found your soulmate, everything is wonderful, there aren't enough words. So why can't he come up with something more profound than Kiss A Girl or Thank you?
I just wonder how "wonderful" this whole lovely marriage is. When you have to talk it up so much, in reality there isn't much to it. I wonder what is going on with him really. I wonder if this "downfall" is his choice. Without his stardom, the whole power couple seems to be pointless. I believe she tracked down this sucker because he was Keith Urban, an aussie and because no other woman could walk him down an aisle despite how he wanted a family and was lonely. The thought of someone of her caliber was fascinating to him and he could also boast he married Kidman after others, including her one true love dumped her. And another feather in his ball cap, he "got" her pregnant. I don't believe that either, but that is a whole other segment. Of course, like most, it is my opinion only. And after listening to his music since the Ranch I wonder if he has "a plan". Should be interesting to see how this all plays out. He hints at a massive tour next year but has no record deal at the moment. I also wonder if he plans on "retiring" and then coming back to be the greatest ever. Remember he was on the cusp right before getting totally involved with her and then poof!
In "Sweet Bird," Kidman will play Alexandra Del Lago, an aging, drunken and sexually voracious movie star. The character is one of Williams' great stage monsters,
LindaMarie, get out of my head! I couldn't have said it better. Thank you!
You mentioned the "massive tour". Now I will admit to not knowing how the whole music industry thing works, but I have to ask, does a record label help incur the expenses of a tour? If so, if he isn't signed with anyone by then, who will front the money for the tour?
Wow, well, I'm gonna give myself credit because it's due, ha...I had predicted her in aging, fallen women roles in Tennessee Williams' plays like Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Mrs. Stone in the Roman Springs, etc. She'll be good, well, stuck in another era, rigidly structured to another time values, unable to let go baggage, fading glory type of person roles! His characters do have that sexual element, here I hope she can fake it better than anything else she had done before. Please, no more of that permanently ingenue, rigid, facial focused no personality/character role playing (as in her characters in Fur, Betwitched, Mountain, etc. etc.) Seeing her immobile face trying to move with throaty prettied up voice deliveries just don't cut it when neither the looks nor interest aren't never what they could be on young beautiful new starlets. Interest in the plots sure go out then, her movies suck big time and she taking the helm of the downward spiral...is what I think. Always did wish when she was younger, at the height of her appearance and more sincere acting chops(takes to really early on in her career), she did Anna Karenina by Tolstoy and see full glory of Czar Russia royalty/ aristocracy with it (Aw well...can't think of anyone younger in HW today who can play that role guess)
Linda Marie- very very accurate. I do think his next great record and yes I believe he is capable of it- will be the divorce CD. He does heartbreak (real or not) very well.
I believe that in the prenup Kidman gets custody of any child born or acquired during the marriage. She also has final say on where the child will live and be educated.
He has said a number of times that he will be launching an 18 month tour and that should work out fine for him since she will be doing a play. I wonder again if he has a deal somewhere. So lets see a possible Oscar nom for Rabid Hole, an Emmy for the HBO thing because everyone in an HBO movie gets and Emmy Nomination and then perhaps a Tony - Kidmans new people know what they are doing.
I don't know how the music industry works either but I would think record labels become involved to a point. Someone with knowledge of this help us out. To have this massive tour of which he speaks, one would need a sponsor right? And without a label's help can that be achieved. How is he to promote this new Olde to Walking Stick by FlipFlopper if he is no longer on their label? Do they just toss it out and him and see if it sticks? I believe sponsors front some or if not most of the money but do record labels get him out there?
I also saw that Kidman is going to work again. What happened to slowing down for her happy little family? It doesn't look like he will slow down either. Oops forgot, Sunday may be away at a boarding school. Do they send toddlers to boarding school or is Sunday older than we are led to believe. I think she is.
I believe they're grossly mismatched in personality save the fact that they're both dead ambitious and keen on money and power. That's where they dovetail. So---
If he's in the marriage for the PR and power trip, why has he gotten so many tattoos of or for her? Why ink her name or symbols of her on his body again and again?
(FWIW, he says he's happy with his tattoos and isn't thinking of adding more.)
And I agree, Linda: Keith has always been lukewarm about children. I suspect he was more in love with the idea of kids and the image of fatherhood than the reality.
He was lukewarm before her birth, and he remains lukewarm about having more kids.
I think he was the sperm donor. I think the baby looks like him. Whether Kidman birthed or not is another story. No woman getting a C-section goes home within *hours* of the surgery. That's just insane.
Hoosierlady ... No it is not common for Aussie children to go to boarding school. Most go to public schools, although there is a growing trend towards private schools due to the high level teaching. I am also surprised that aussie taxpayers are footing the bill for the Oprah DOwn Under TV event. It's part of our government's plan to boost tourism. However, a big mistake including Kidman on the show as she does not interview well. Seems silly to bring her down under when she no longer lives here, when we now have much more interesting talent that do live here like cate blanchette, Toni collette, russell crow or even guy pearce. These stars alone would ensure higher ratings. Oprah obviously is unaware of kid man's lack of appeal.
Certainly, the support of a recording company is, all around, very important to the artists. The deal is they pay for them to record, to publicize and promote...etc....and if the artist is successfull, everyone makes money. And as with all recording artists...I'm sure how much the recording company supports their concert touring depends on the artists. Clearly, massively successful performers wouldnt need AS MUCH support from the record label as others. I would imagine at this point...hugely established performers like U2 or Springsteen...Paul McCartney!...if they decided to launch massive world tours...that they could line up a VERY LONG list of company or corporate sponsors to finance their ENTIRE world tours! Tour sponsors are basically buying commercial time at the shows. Orb's tour sponsor this year and last year seems to be KC Masterpiece and Kingsford Charcoal... "responsible for hosting the backstage and VIP areas on the tour, providing everyone with tasty food."
...and I also recall there was a "Verizon VIP Tour Keith Urban Beyond the Music"...where orb played a few "concerts" at a few Verizon stores...but I figure that was simply promotion. Now i doubt if KC Masterpiece and Kingsford Charcoal financed the ENTIRE tours...so I would figure capnash alone...or with orb himself financed the tours as well. Now as to how orb maybe NOT being signed to capnash after this cd effects orb's full tour next year...we will just have to see.
I wonder if Keith and Capitol ended things in December when his tour ended. Thats when he downsized his band and crew. And without the support of Capitol he couldn't continue his tour so he settled for the fairs and festivals. Maybe because Defying Gravity didn't sell well, he was in debt to Capitol and is paying off with his new CD. Keith said "Get Closer" is licensed to Capitol Records but the deal is over. Could explain why theres no videos with his new songs.
His comment to Friedman, "hes happy to be a free man in such a crazy record business" does sound like he could be starting his own label. But who has he been most anxious to work with this year? John Mayer. Crossroads, the awards show, a Mayer concert and next, All for the Hall. So you have to wonder if Mayer or his label is in Keith's future.
If not that, then he does have some arrangement if hes planning a tour next year and mentioned adding another guitarist to the band. Maybe Blue Sky is right and Keith spoke to NK's buddy Friedman because hes planning to crossover. That fits with Mayer too. Whats obvious is that Keith seems unconcerned about the future. So yeah, he knows whats coming next. Hes had all this year to plan his next move.
A440, Keith only has one huge tattoo of NK's name on his arm. One he had to change because of Niki Taylor (I think). The new one on his chest he never explained unless I missed.
Keith has the Nicole banner on his arm. The one that he got that looked like Nikki Taylors and then had covered over has Kidman's and Sunday's intials in it. The one on his chest, I believe was a gift from Kidman to him and it has some significance to their relationship. This isn't the first time Keith has gotten tattoo's for the woman in his life, like the "Omnia Vincit Amor" that he got like Nikki's. To the "Love" he has on his shoulder that he supposedly got after a fight or falling out with Laura. I think he think's inking himself is a stronger way of showing his love for someone then actually saying it or doing things to show it. It's more permanant. I believe Keith loves her. It may not have started out that way but it either just went that way or he talked himself into believing it. A440, I completely agree with you on Sunday. She is Keith's child other then that, how she came to be, I don't know. Why do you say Kidman had a c-section? I thought she had a natural birth?
123xyz, I respect your opinion but I think Keith only loves what NK represents, not her. I think this is a "public" marrige common in Hollywood. And while I believe that Sunday could be a Kidman (although I don't believe NK was ever pregnant), I would think that if Keith is the father he would want his family to be a part of her life, and they clearly are not. Just my opinion of course.
mikki said... "I wonder if Keith and Capitol ended things in December when his tour ended. Thats when he downsized his band and crew. And without the support of Capitol he couldn't continue his tour so he settled for the fairs and festivals."
Yeah, mikki I believe everything this year clearly points to what you say. Clearly as Ive mentioned before, what would be the reason for orb to continue with even a "striped down" tour of fairs and festivals this year...AT ALL? Clearly its compensation to capnash for the weak sales of defying sales. Now, only getting a TOTAL of 11 months to write, record, mix, dub AND RELEASE his next cd is also a strong sign that capnash really wants to just get it over with. The fact that they've even scheduled to release it on a VERY BUSY week points to that. Now, Ive read speculation here that capnash wanted to dump orb after the Whole crazy cd failed to perform, but a "sympathetic" suit at capnash stalled that...my best guess, with the aid of hindsight...perhaps after the huge success orb had with 2004s Be Here, with it selling 4 mil cds...orb was able to re-up his contract with capnash...and was able to get a 3 album deal...and so capnash was unable to dump orb after whole crazy and the ridiculously weak Defying sales...and after this cd...orb is over at capnash. Of course, orb being done at capnash is still speculation...and the quotes to the hack friedman, if true, could simply be attempted PR BS "face saving." Orb feeding the "lucky to be free from that crazy business" quote would be closely in line with what happened to megan fox. After the story initially came out that director Bay had dumped fox from transformer 3, basically for having a big mouth, of course fox's mouthpiece immediately had to come out with her spin that "she left voluntarily!" Nobody buys it, but they HAVE TO DO IT...it wouldnt be GOOD for her business. Now as to whether orb MAY start his own Label? I dont buy that for a minute. More than likely he would simply land at another label. No way on earth would orb himself believe he could realistically do that. Certainly not if his next cd, as I suspect, does even less business than defying sales.
And tks for the info on the tattoos. I didn't know a few of the details you mentioned. I agree with your analysis. He inks himself as a show of love. It mirrors what he once said on TV. He never uses pencil to write his lyrics, only pen. That way it's permanent.
maclen, I don't think Keith would be stupid enough to announce to any reporter that hes done with Capitol if it isn't true. And remember, he hasn't been updated on their website since January I think you said. So he must owe them the revenue from this new CD to make up for their losses on Defying Gravity. Thats how it looks.
I wonder if Keith sees his career the same way his fans do. Its not the CD sales, its the awards and the performances that make him a star. He did tell his fans to illegally download songs, just come to the shows, remember? So its possible, backed with all his wife's money, he thinks he could start his own label. He has been self-promoting all year with his in studio video clips and various other video clips of his performances on utube. And he does radio interviews all the time now. That "free man" comment doesn't fit with a new label.
What is clear is that hes made a change already as hes planning his next tour.
mikki said... "maclen, I don't think Keith would be stupid enough to announce to any reporter that hes done with Capitol if it isn't true. And remember, he hasn't been updated on their website since January I think you said."
Yes, that is true, mikkie...just checked orb's page at capnash's site...still nothing posted on orb....tracks or videow...just the latest news is updated for the new cd and the "benefit for orb!" And yes, the monkeys near obsession with orb's singles and how much "radio spins" it gets is almost near neglectful to orb's overall career...and yes...IT IS because his album cds dont sell! Your right, mikki, Orb's obvious recent preoccupation with radio interviews shows that is where his campaign is. I brought that up in the comparison to swifty's instant release of her videos...but I guess the orb doesnt believe what the very first video played on the newly started MTV way back in 1981 stated...and that was "Video Killed the Radio Star!" And your comment last night about whether the orb even intends to release videos, IF he is done at capnash was very interesting. I would gather if he is done with capnash...perhaps they would not pay for them and orb would then not make and release any...that would be something to look at closely and would hint if he is done at capnash.
When an artist signs with a label they sign for X amount of albums. Giving the label that amount and promoting the album is the only thing the the artist owes the label. Unless the label decides to cut them before they get to that amount. Once you begin work on each album the artist is given X amount of money to get that album made. Everything is recoupable if money is made. Which means if the artist is given $250,000 to make an album that comes off the top of what they make on the sales of the album. If the album doesn't make that money back, the artist is not responsible for paying that back. That's why each year less and less artists are signed and why so many don't get to put out a 2nd or 3rd album. Regardless of how LP&TWCT and DG sold Keith doesn't owe Cap/Nash anything but product. By putting out BC he's fullfilled his obligation if this was the last album he owed them. Then he is free to go wherever he'd like. Now of course Cap/Nash is allowed to try and re-negotiate a new deal or not and Keith is allowed to either accept that or not. Keith's not always been happy with Cap/Nash and I'm sure some of Keith's decisions were not pleasing to the label. Maybe like with a lot of relationships it was just time for both sides to move on. But the truth is Keith doesn't owe them any money. The only way money would be owed (not by Keith) would be if Keith still owed Cap/Nash albums and wanted out of his contract then usually the label he would be moving onto would buy up that contract and then whatever the first album he put out for the new label made would be used to pay back that amount.
I suspect it's true that he declared he was leaving after the last tour.
I don't know much about the industry, but I read in an article that the artist doesn't get much out of CD sales. They make their money on touring, merchandise sales, and song writing. So ... maybe it's true that he is not as interested in that as in live performances?
However, the truth is, if he doesn't put some decent music out, who will attend his tour? There is a fan base that will go no matter what, at least for the next couple of years. But the arenas are full of people, many of whom are not "fans" like the ones who will go regardless. He needs radio play to get them to come. And you don't get radio play unless you record and release singles.
I think there's a plan. Whether he's going to start his own label or is joining another (? Mayer's) ... but Keith needs a label.
I know that many here think he's spiraling into the depths of failure, but the truth is he is in the top 10 in Nashville. DG didn't sell well, but not that many artists are selling well. It has sold similarly to Brad Paisley's album. Only Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift are selling these days.
The record industry is in trouble...it's the digital age and they have to figure out how they fit. Keith is not unique as far as CD sales. The industry has to figure out how to adapt.
That's just an opinion, but there are alot of people saying the same thing.
A440, I watched both the "Australia" and "Nine" interviews with Oprah and I don't remember Kidman telling her that she had a c-section. I can't recall Kidman saying much of anything about the labor and birth of Sunday. That's what has led to a lot of the speculation about the birth. Because neither Keith or Kidman have spoken about it really.
Yes 123xyz, thats procedure. And then theres the corporate game where they play by their own rules.
imahick, the artist makes 3% off of the CD sales. The label 97% which is where they make their money.
Not sure I agree that the record industry is in trouble. There have been no signs of cut backs or mergers. It seems to be the economy that is affecting sales. But in Keith's case it seems to be more dramatic than with other artists as his sales dropped from 4 million to 2 million to less than a million. Each new CD drops by half. You can blame the economy for the last one but certainly not for the Pain album.
In my opinion its hype and exposure holding up his career. I'd like to see if he could still fill an arena on his own like he did at the height of his career. He does have a loyal fan base but its his high profile thats holding him up now, not his music.
"If the album doesn't make that money back, the artist is not responsible for paying that back."
Interesting statement. NOw when I off the cuff...and refer rather simplified...that the orb's decision to go back out on this pared down festival tour this summer...knowing that he was ALSO in the mist of writing and recording another album... "to PAY BACK capnash" I was not talking LITERALLY. I was refering to this...
"Finally, there is a concept called cross-collateralization. Let's say a band's first album does well, but not well enough to recover all the recoupable costs, charge-backs, etc. For example:
* The record company sells 300,000 CDs and makes $3 million. * The band gets a 10% royalty. * The recoupable expenses total $500,000.
So the band "makes" $300,000, but that money doesn't cover all the recoupable expenses. So the band is now $200,000 in the hole. The band does not get a check, but the label probably cleared $2 million from the album. So the record company exercises the first option. The band creates a new album. The income from the second album will have to cover all the remaining costs from the first album ($200,000) and then all of the new costs for the second album before the band sees any money."
If orb's album didnt make it's money back then clearly orb will NOT receive any royalties if it is fact that capnash didnt recoup it's recoupable expenses and orb is then left with recoupable expenses deficits that are then owed or paid off by the next album. Now, would it make sense then, if Defying sale's weak sales had left orb with any capnash "RE" deficits and no profits so far off of the cd...that orb would then feel a need to head back straight into even a pared down festival just to offset those deficits? And as I did mention the posibility of orb getting a 3 album deal with capnash AFTER the success of Be Here, it IS possible the orb was simply accruing debts on those incrimentally LESS selling cds and this 3rd album is simply deal fulfilling and basically for "recouping expenses" for capnash. And, would orb himself be NOT TO HAPPY about all this? OF COURSE he wouldnt...but as I keep repeating over and over...THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES to selling less and less cds. And, actually, if any of this does turn out to be case...and orb DOESNT end up leaving capnash...he will be in a pretty "unenviable" situation! Now, could orb then move onto another Label where he COULD negotiate the new Label would PAY OFF his RE debts to capnash? Well, theoretically he might be able to negotiate that the new label..."make orb the new CEO, President and OWNER" of the Label!" Again, theoretically possible, but realistially...unlikely! Seems that the orb would be in that unenviable position of having to go to another label and ask them to sign him on, and "pay off his debts to a label he was signed at...because he couldnt sell cds!" That wouldnt be a very impressive resume, would it?
There is plenty of evidence that the recording industry has been struggling to find its way in the digital age. Search "Record Industry and the digital age" and you'll get loads of hits.
I don't think for one minute Keith left CapNash. More likely CapNash left Keith. Remember he had to have his people beg CapNash to take him back for another CD. He hasn't sold many CD in the last 5 years.
Rememberwhen, this is documented somewhere that Keith's people begged Cap/Nash to put out another of his CD's or is this just more Skepticspeak??? Because I've been a fan for a long time, I've read all the same things as everyone else, I have some well placed frieds and I've not ever heard that before. From a business standpoint if Cap/Nash was done with their relationship with Keith and they didn't think they could make any money with him, no amount of talking from "Keith's People" would change their minds.
123xyz, guess your not the only one with "well placed friends", I've heard the same thing as rememberwhen.
And in the corporate world when someone has been a high achiever it is not uncommon to give them another opportunity to turn things around before ending the relationship.
So, after a break...it's back to "Monkey-watch!" As the single's watch and the orb's album watch continues over at monkeyland...I noticed a few interesting comments over there...seems a monkey IS ALSO wondering about a head to head comparison to swifty...

I hope Get Closer is going to get this kind of promotion like TS is getting
"When her video single came out people were falling all over there feet to be there and get a piece of the action..now this is what's going to happen for the release of her new CD.
Come on now..Keith and PYINAS and GET CLOSER deserves the same kind of promotion..this is so over the top what there doing for TS
Please don't tell me she's the "IT GIRL"..this marketing needs to be done for Keith, the single and the CD
HA! Hilarious...seems swifty is gonna "pwn" the orb regarding the UN! Maybe the "limo ambassador" can get the orb a gig playing for the UN! And it also seems I'm NOT the only one who notices that swifty "pwns" the orb when it comes to PR...considering the orb is just so obviously trying to "co-opt" swifty's audience with his "bubblegum pop!" Well, interestingly, here is another example...

My KU music fears
"I know I am going to get pounded for this post, but I feel it must be said. Please let me start by stating I have grown up listening to all kinds of music. My mother brought me up on country thru the 70's, went to rock/pop/r&b beginning in my teens in the 80's, & in my late 30's, back to country (mid 90's). Once I found Keith, I found a "spirituality" in his music. This truly helped me get thru my divorce, & helped me learn to love others & life again. I found this in songs like SLY, ROS, YTOM, MMOU, BL, YMBH, GBGTM. However, I am seeing more of Keith's music moving towards the "pop/rock" side. I am still loving his music, however, it seems to me the spiritual side is less than it used to be. He still has had the spiritual side, but songs like KAG, PYIAS, HTGR are certainly not more for the older generation of listeners (yes there are still going to be those that love it). It seems to me, that his songs are leaning more towards the "catchy" lyrical side more. Of course, we haven't heard the new album yet, but I am truly hoping his music is going back to that spirituality."
Yeah, I once quoted it as orb having "plastic soul"...now will these posts be very lowly commented on...yes...but these impressions ARE being noticed by even fansies! And clearly, it will result in LESS enthusiam by potential customers.
There was a summary from the New York Times (you know that paper Keith likes to read when he is in Starbucks ) about the TFF and Rabid Hole was not mentioned.
I wonder if Keith was kept on at Cap Nash because of his personal relationship with Dungan? One of the few people who was told what was really going on In October 2006.
Just an interesting update to the fansie's wondering if Defying sales will soon be certified Platinum! A few monkeys were under the false impression it seems that because they had heard that capnash had recently shipped out 100k copies of the cd to store outlets...that the RIAA would soon certify it platinum. Well, as i commented here, the RIAA doesnt simply certify an album for the cds SHIPPED out...not any more...but they wait a 30 day period of when they were shipped...and then audit the record company after the unsold cds are returned to get an actual count of how many cds were ACTUALLY sold. So now the interesting part...as recently as last week, the wiki page for Defying sales had it "selling 891,971 cds as of June 2010"...
So apparently, Defying sales sold a total of 2,469 cds since June...that's 2,469 cds...IN 3 MONTHS! Yes...at that rate, I wouldnt be holding MY breath of Defying sales selling Platinum! And I would surely say that the orb HAS underformed by "declination theory" of orb selling only half of his previous cd. And on the subject of my recent comment where a monkey is lamenting the fact that the orb's PR truly lacks behind swifty's...as I predicted, that thread has a total of...ZERO REPLIES!
...yes, the subject of swifty IS a very sore point to the monkeys! NOw the other thread I posted...the thread lamenting that the orb's new stuff is too "popish" and not "spiritual" for his/her taste...
KUiscaliente said... "i agree! id love to see keith go back to his golden road type-sounding stuff. i too, will always be a fan though, no matter what."
kuteacher said... "Keith has said the new album is not a radical departure from the last album. I, too, would like to see him get back to his country rock sound...or even go full-fledged rock and roll!"
(now I agree, the orb WOULD LIKE to be full "ROCK"...but all he seems able to muster is "bubble gum pop)
jeanetteTK said... "Keith is definitely more pop than country and more country than rock. He needs to have his own genre. I love him but I have always felt that since he isn't country enough he will get overlooked for certain awards."
Now clearly, I EVEN saw...as a non orb fan...and only really following his decline since the WHole crazy cd...orb drifting into "POP" did not help him...and even some of his monkeys believe that. And as I continue to mention, how many of the former monkeys who HAVE NOT been buying his cds...felt the same way?
RE: the c-section. There is no way she could've had a c-section and then embarked two weeks later on, what was probably vigorous dance lessons for Nine.
So a few of the Monkeys are speaking up that this really isn't their sort of music that they like, but they will always be a fan. Aren't they contradicting themselves? If you don't like the music an artist is putting out, how can you be a fan? I don't believe they will have the power to turn away from buying the CD, and that's the only place you can make your opinion count.
Sorry, I should have included this after reading hoosierlady's current comment. IF he wants to stay in the country genre and continue with this "music", all he needs to do is start playing the ganjo again and add a mandolin and fiddler players to the band again, but he won't do this because his wife is not a fan of country music. This was well-known before the hook-up. Keith's only purpose on this planet now is to keep his wife happy.
I listened to that song again. It is horrendous. I hold little hope that this song will catch on as fast as the other silly ones. The lyrics are juvenile for an almost 43 year old man and once again this CD will be an ode to the skinny one. Give it a rest. I really believe he is sabatoging his own career.
As for the c-section and/or birth. I don't believe for a second she was pregnant. Who wears white pants, lunches with friends and takes vigorous dance lessons within days of "giving birth".
These two are so unbelievable it is almost comical. His rehab, sorry didn't happen the way he said. Who gets a tattoo and travels halfway around the world to vist his saint for the holidays. Nobody in rehab (been there done that, not allowed). Who does all those magical things and wears white skin tight pants to boot! Why Saint Nic, the Savior.
Can't wait for the next ridiculous comments from them both.
As for this new music. Like I indicated you can be a fan of him live. He is a talent to behold with that guitar playing. To listen to him in the car, not happening anymore. I still listen to him, GR, BH and the Ranch. The other two efforts, I can't, they give me a headache.
Yep, on her "pregnancy", this is what happens when you lie, you have to keep using one's brains to keep it consistent...and we all know about her brain power...and how sloppy and PR stupid she is so the astute world gets to witness. She had contrived with tremendous odd behavior and looks during "pregnancy", the press had a heyday pointing out how her stomach would not grow, shrink and become tiny at onset of supposedly giving birth. People here mentioned after birth inconsistencies, especially as it involved her supposed c-section and her ability to recover from that instantly like it never happend. Duh. Yep, she's gotta michael jackson mentality. Don't know why she finds it attractive at age 43 to already adopt that embalmed facial looks from too many surgeries (see similar phenomenon on old stars like b reynolds, j rivers, s stallone, etc.) In short, this weirdo had totally lost a grip on reality living...imagine her when she reaches 50, if she's not already there....
hoosierlady said... "Oh no, you know where this is going. . .Poor suffering Keith, he is so unique, he cannot find a home."

And yes, LindaMarie, the level of orb's rather juvenile, shallow and immature music is quite comical! And in fact it's becoming pretty unclear if orb's descent into "bubble gum" was actually by design... or simply an inevitablity! And orb is becoming, even by an admittingly small amount, to some of his monkeys...NO LONGER country enough! And speaking of orb being a "poor fansie's" taylor swift wannabe...here is another rather "shallow" and totally laughable "achievement" for the orb. No doubt a PR event to promo his new single...the orb was just presented with an "INTERNATIONAL" award by the ACM Honors...
"He hails from Australia and New Zealand, he conquered America and he’s found an audience in Europe. Keith Urban’s global assault was hailed Monday as the Academy of Country Music handed him its Jim Reeves International Award during the fourth annual ACM Honors at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium."
(HA! The orb has FOUND AN AUDIENCE...in EUROPE!!)
"The award wasn’t just a nicety. While country music was born and bred in the U.S.A., it’s had a bit of a rocky road in building audiences beyond American borders. Keith’s made a point of taking his music to other territories, leading host Lee Ann Womack to hail “the world domination of Keith Urban.”
Again...HA! Made a point of TAKING his music beyond american borders!? WORLD DOMINATION!? Comically, the ACM Honors considers OZ to be orb's achievement in WORLD DOMINATION! A quick check of orb's previous "WORLD" tours...reveals... last years Escape Together tour, orb played 50 US gigs, 11 gigs in Canada...and 5 gigs in OZ. His previous "WORLD TOUR", the Love pain tour in 2008 orb played 49 gigs in the US and 9 gigs in Canada. His Still Alive tour in 2005, orb played 26 gigs in the US...no other gigs...and the Be Here tour, he played 29 gigs...all in the US! Clearly, the orb HAS conquered EUROPE...apparently...via Canada! If orb is considered THE "International star" of Country music...that is a pretty pathetic statement by the ACM!
LindaMarie said..."These two are so unbelievable it is almost comical".
It is comical, and now you know why I'm here. Please pay special attention to the "Tom Factor" it is especially interesting to me to watch her reactions to the things that they do, sometimes she mimics them to a T, I am surprised each day SR doesn't have heels on.
"Can't wait for the next ridiculous comments from them both".
Butter and salt on that popcorn, and is there anything else you need while I'm up?
Maclen you might want to check with your fact checker. Keith has toured Europe (If you count England, Ireland, Scotland and Germany) as Europe. Most do, maybe you don't though. Now a lot of those shows he was openning for Bryan Adams but it still counts. He played shows there. Also you might want to know that Keith has won (I think twice) the French Country awards, I think for male vocalist. So he is known outside of the US, Canada and OZ. As big a star as Kenny Chesney is and he hasn't played outside of North America. So if you were to compare Keith to most other country stars of today, he would be internationally known.
Yes hoosierlady, following the divorce the public was lead to believe that there was nothing more between Cruise and Kidman other than their children. In my opinion, the business arrangement between them continued long after the divorce and he is still her most trusted advisor when it comes to her career, all done on the QT. Theres quite a bit of the Tom factor if you know what to look for.
maclen, didn't Keith finish 2010 with around 850,000 CD sales? Which means that he sold less than 45,000 this year and only 2469 between June and September. During those months he did the concerts with the Eagles and John Mayer. And a few high profile events. And only sold a pitiful 2469 CD's? I think Capitol shipped those 100,000 CD's to the bargin bins just to unload them.
"Now a lot of those shows he was openning for Bryan Adams but it still counts. He played shows there."
HA! HA! So actually...bryan adams deserves this "International" award! IT WAS adams who "brought orb to Europe!! So the ACM BELIEVES orb "conquered the world" when he played OZ and Canada the past 2 years...and the fansies believe the orb is an "International" star for playing in Europe....5 YEARS AGO! According to wiki...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Urban
"In 2005 Urban played in front of European audiences for the first time. In May Urban supported Bryan Adams on his UK and Ireland tour, which included dates in Earls Court, London, SECC, Glasgow and The Point, Dublin."
...so, orb "played" Europe back in 2005...but hasnt been back...in the past 5 years...so naturally...orb deserves an "International" award in 2010? That logic truly follows the dellusion of the fansies...and the ACM is simply presenting orb a very hollow "award" no doubt arranged by orbs people simply for PR purposes. So to clarify, it was actually Adams "who bought orb to Europe"...5 YEARS AGO Orb hasnt been too inclined to do it for himself in the past 5 years. YES...all hail the "conquering international hero!"
mikki said... maclen, didn't Keith finish 2010 with around 850,000 CD sales? Which means that he sold less than 45,000 this year and only 2469 between June and September. Yes mikki, something that I had overlooked! For all the pomp and circumstance the orb has attempted...he is clearly still bleeding fansies. What other "genius" believes hooking up with the napalm is a GOOD career move? Napalm...who I recently read had canceled his twitter account...no doubt for continuing to be a douche! All fronts point to orb failing...the declining cd sales...the rumor that he may be through at capnash...which then falls in with the orb having to write, record, dub and mix his next cd in less than 11 months, while seeming to need to also launch a scaled back summer "fair and festival tour"...hypothesised by yours truly as being to "make ends meet" as his possible "cross-collateralization" debt at capnash due to declining cd sales freeze any royalties. So, we shall see...
Well, now along the recent asinine news of orb receiving an "International award...you know, along with the accolades that the orb "has conquered the world"...for "taking his music" to the far off land of...Canada...orb will soon be making an appearence on Extreme makeover...
Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban Help Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
"Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and LeAnn Rimes will appear in an upcoming episode of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, about rebuilding Lighthouse Christian School near Nashville."
Now again, the international award, although being rather ridiculous and clearly set up simply for promo for his new single...this appearance of the tv show Extreme makeover smacks once again of "charitable exploitation."
"The episode is tentatively scheduled to air Nov. 7, leading up to the CMA Awards on Nov. 10.
So, after last year, while still on tour the orb decided to suddenly jump onto the All for the Hall bandwagon and co-opt Gill's years long work for the organization...and he decided to organize a benefit concert...as I pointed out...smack dab in the middle of the voting for the CMAs and just weeks before the CMA awards themselves. Fat lot of good it did him...orb FAILED to win the coveted "Entertainer" award at the CMAs. So this year, ALONG with the "benefit for orb"...it seems the orb will also now be appearing on the extreme show...to be broadcast only a few days before this years CMAs...and the news is coming out NOW...again, in the mist of CMA award voting..."ALL FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL"...near NASHVILLE!! So, do you see the pattern? Last year, orb held his "Benefit for orb"...all money to go to the Country hall of fame...which is in NASHVILLE...as the votes were being cast...for the CMA Awards...which takes place in NASHVILLE. But, unfortunately for orb, he DIDNT win "Entertainer" So now, THIS YEAR...it's now reported that orb will appear on Extreme Makeover.. which is about "rebuilding the Lighthouse Christian School"...near NASHVILLE...again in the middle of cma awards voting...in which the show will be broadcast a few days before the CMA awards show...which...repeat with me...is in NASHVILLE! SO....clearly, the orb realized he was not a big enough HERO "For the HALL"...so he figures if he's a "HERO" for the Lighthouse Christian School...near NASHVILLE ...that "Entertainer" surely will be his! Now, did I mention all those "events"...take place in or near... NASHILLE?... and not, say some charitable cause in Haiti...or even the gulf coast...(not close enough!) Just a notion...if orb doesnt take "Entertainer" this year...what OTHER charity in NASHVILLE can the orb swoop down and save next October?
Keith Urban Reveals Intimate Details of 'Get Closer'
"In a recent video chat through his website, Keith explained the title and what it means to him, personally, saying "I write love songs; that's what I write. I write songs about relationships, whatever that relationship is. In my case, they're boy-girl songs that get written from a perspective where they're 'he and she' or they're 'you and me.'"
...seems only two and a half weeks ago...orb HAD NO IDEA what his cd or the song meant...
Q-Wow. Tell me a little bit about it. How does it differ from your past stuff? What should we look for?
A-“Oh … good question. I always find it challenging to define records. I don’t know. I think it encompasses whatever it is that I do. It’s not a huge musical or subject departure from records I’ve done prior to this one. I really couldn’t define it. I think it’s a sexier record, but it’s still a tempo record. I mean, I just don’t know.
So, it took orb 2 1/2 weeks to figure out that...he writes loves songs?! AND...that the title song...and the title of the album...GET! LOser! (get closer)...means that...he wants to GET CLOSER to people..or things?...in his life?...
"It might be the thing you want to get closer to or your goals or your life."
So, basically, he says he writes "love songs"...that, basically, can mean WHATEVER you want it to mean?!
"In my case, they're boy-girl songs that get written from a perspective where they're 'he and she' or they're 'you and me.' The 'you' can be whoever it is for you listening ... your 'you.' That goes for things, too. Your dreams could be 'you.'"
Jezz orb, why not say they could be about simply getting closer...oh...
"The title just means get closer. I think that's what we all need to do. It's a big, open-ended meaning. Ultimately, [the fans] will all find [their] own connection to what this title means."
Boy, what a "Poet for the Ages" this guy is...throwing a mish mash of possible meanings...as if to simply see what sticks...it could mean...'he and she'...or 'you and me"...or the 'you' can be whoever it is for you listening...'for you'...or it could mean, 'for things, too. Your dreams could be 'you.'...'It might be the thing you want to get closer to or your goals or your life.'
So basically, orb writes "love songs'...that can mean...WHATEVER YOU WANT THEM TO MEAN! Why doesnt orb simply call the album..."INSERT YOUR TITLE HERE...and simply say his songs MEAN WHATEVER YOU WANT THEM TO MEAN...for it's clear the orb has no idea what it all means!
I know you don't like to bring up other stars unless it lends itself to your beliefs Maclen but the truth is whether it was 5 yrs ago or this year, he did play there. Hardly any of the country stars of today have played internationally. You can't take that away from him. Also, Keith wasn't given this award to help promote the new cd. He was actually given this award back in April, along with everyone else that was honored this week. They just held the ceremony for them now. As for the CMA's you really are stretching. So is Carrie doing the show for votes? Or just Keith? Is Miranda Lambert playing the AFTH show this year to guaruntee she wins awards at the CMA's? Or is Keith the only one you hold accountable? They are in a business of doing things to bring attention to themselves. This is not new. They all do it but it's only wrong when Keith does it? Your girl Taylor played the AFTH last year and did her own AFTH this year in LA. You don't think she did that to get attention??? You obviously know nothing about Taylor. Go to one of her shows. The entire experience should be called "look at me". Hell, she even takes time out (at least two times) during her shows, to just stand there and let the little girls scream and cheer for her. As she pretends to be moved by it all. Yet it happens at the same place every night and she does the same thing each night. It's all an act. Charity begins at home, Maclen. If Keith was doing work for charities outside of Nashville, it would be what about Nashville. If Keith really wanted to use this show and the school to promote himself, why didn't we heard about this when they actually filmed the show? Why didn't he have people there with camera's? He certainly could have got more mileage out of this story but he didn't.
The whole damn album was inspired by his wife, including the title. So how can the title mean something to us if he finally blurted it out that it is all about her? That is a visual I won't be able to get out of my head.
Not only does he shoot himself in the foot, he kicks himself in the behind. We get it Keith, you think you love your wife, we know who you are married to, end it already and act like a grown up and play big boy music.
I know Keith is lying, but I am wondering if he is lying to the world or to himself. If this is the best his wife can inspire him, I wonder how good he can be if he really felt that way....
Keith recently said that he would rather make a video of the performance of a song as opposed to a story in the video because then the listener can derive whatever meaning they want in the song. That is very interesting to say but very boring to see his best videos have been a story video. You'll think of me and Til Summer come to mind both gorgeous as opposed to throw aways like Better Half and Shirt or no video at all I'm In. Someone recently commented to me that it appeared to them that Keith was holding back his better work until Kidman is out of the picture then he can lose this bunch of crap and return with the songs all of his fans know he can create.
He did something today which always bugs me. In talking to People on Monday evening he talked about bringing Sunday to the studio and recording her singing ABC and Twinkle Star. Thats nice but really not our business then he said that his love for her led him to write as he does today. Don't blame the kid Keith.
"If Keith really wanted to use this show and the school to promote himself, why didn't we heard about this when they actually filmed the show? Why didn't he have people there with camera's? He certainly could have got more mileage out of this story but he didn't."
Boy, what a complete lack of simple comprehension! For starters, what difference does it make WHEN they filmed his appearence for the show? Clearly, the point is that the promo for the show...where orb is appearing for the cause of the Lighthouse Christian School, was released this week...a week AFTER orbs new single came out. So orb is promoting his new single with news that he will be appearing on behalf of that CHARITABLE CAUSE..."orb is such a GREAT HUMANITARIAN... and he has a new single out, by the way, why dont you go buy it!" Now, that IS only the NEWS that he is gonna be a great humanitarian...the actually show where orb will appear on behalf of a "noble cause" is scheduled to premiere only a few days before the CMA awards...so..."Hey all you CMA awards voters...show your GRATITUDE to orb, that great humanitarian, and vote for him for CMA "ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR"...he oh so truly DESERVES it...for all the work he's done for Nashville's beloved Hall of Fame and the nearby Christian School!" The orb's obvious and callous exploition...and of course, the TIMING of these endeavers... of the Christian School to shill his single...and his exploitation of the HAll of FAMe to troll for CMA awards votes is so patently obvious...you have to be a total imbecile not to see it...or simply a fansie, who obviously doesnt give a damn.
Why do you always have to resort to name calling?? Does putting people down make you feel more superior and better about yourself?Clearly, if you can get 2 months of attention for a charitable act, it's better then a months worth. Keith clearly could have gone for that and he didn't. It's that simple. Again, like Keith is the only one to do things to get attention for a new release of a single or for awards. Ever taken a look at the trade mags when members are voting for movie/tv awards? Stars take out full page ads basically saying, vote for me. Maybe you are the imbecile to not see that. Oh that's right it's only wrong when Keith does it. Everyone else in all of the entertainment business does charity work out of the goodness of their hearts. Keith's the only one to do it for attention.....right. No one gets into the entertainment business to not call attention to themselves. Most people don't do charity work out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it for the tax write off or to get some sort of a benefit back to them. Now I know by saying that, some will post here how they do it out of the goodness of their hearts (just to go against what I'm saying) but I stand behind, that most don't. We live in a "what's in it for me" society. Regardless of whether you are in the entertainment business or not. Why is Keith held to such a high standard?
LindaMarie said... Maclean: "The whole damn album was inspired by his wife, including the title. So how can the title mean something to us if he finally blurted it out that it is all about her? That is a visual I won't be able to get out of my head."
Yes, clearly the reason orb has lost over 3/4s of his fanbase. Seems they are NOT so much into orb's "domestic tranquility" as they were into his "barefoot poet" image some seem to refer to. Makes absolutely no difference to me if orb is actually in "matrimonial bliss"... his pushing it as his "professional image" is not a financial winner. Period.
Tara said... "Keith recently said that he would rather make a video of the performance of a song as opposed to a story in the video because then the listener can derive whatever meaning they want in the song."
And also, Tara...NO CREATIVITY whatsoever is needed for a live performance video. Just jump on stage and shake his behind...those shallow monkey fansies care more for orb's frosted highlights and "to the navel open shirt"...than the actual lyrics or any meaningful theme to the songs! Ive read enough reviews of orb's stuff to get the drift that his lyrics are retreads...and his music is VERY derivative.
LindaMarie, if you know anything about the Cruise/Kidman marriage you know that she has patterned this marriage after that one (with her in Tom's role this time around). What Tom did for her is what she has done for Keith. She has elevated his profile and made him a household name. I think he completely trusts her with his career because she benefited so well in her relationship with Tom. What worked for her can work for him. I believe thats the reason he inserts her into his career and credits her for his music. Its always about her, inspired by her or chosen by her. NK seems to be, in his mind, the key to success. And as long as their married, he can't fail. She has the media machine to keep them going.
Its all done by design, just as the Cruise/Kidman marriage was. The arrangement provides maximum exposure for both. He promotes her at every opportunity, he gets the benefit of her fame. The relationship raises both their profiles and provides more media coverage. As we have seen. Him on the HW red carpets, her on the country red carpets. No real downside as long as neither gets any bad press. And she sees that that doesn't happen! The Urban marriage is "perfect".
Why would Keith want to change the formula? Hes getting everything he wants out of this. Its not about the music. Its about his own fame and fortune. And according to his fans, hes got quite the nest egg since hooking up with her. (Just my opinion of course).
maclen why do you bother to defend the indefensible? You can't see that ABC the network that airs Extreme Makeover is also the same network that's airing the CMA's? That's why there's cross-promotion in the press. Keith did not dictate when this show would air. The network has a programming schedule to put out they can use what's in the shows to get people to watch.
You only address what you can twist into your warped agenda. So I won't expect you to explain how Keith won vocalist and artist of the year at the French country music awards, released albums, single, and videos specifically for the European market, went Platinum in Australia and won their version of the Grammy, consistent #1 artist in Canada, all from an American based country music format. That is the mark of an international artist.
I also won't expect you to explain how any artist can have an ongoing career and NEVER have new material released during awards time or when they help charities. Keith and Nicole do that year round, whether they get press for it or not.
You maclen don't give a damn about reality. To the rest of you, posting the exact same thing from E! just proves its the same lot of you here.
Tara why do you say his daughter singing is none of our business but elsewhere he has no interaction with her, doesn't talk about her enough in interviews and isn't an involved parent? There's nothing but contradiction from you guys. Whatever KU or NK does is wrong, whatever KU or NK doesn't do is wrong.
He has said in the past it would be nice to only work when he wants to, she provides that nicely.
However, I still do not see the problem with him loving his wife, even though he does have strange taste, but it is his choice. He loves Yoko, for whatever reason (s), we will all wonder why, but he truly seems to love her.
We have seen these two manipulate the press and the "humanitarian" circuit ad nauseam, so Maclean, save the skin on your fingers, unless you've been watching this for a while, I do not think you can get through to anyone what we have seen time and time again. Sometimes you just have to let the act speak for itself.
The gracious white knight on his snorting steed will fall from grace soon enough, we know this to be true, in the mean time, have you seen any good films lately?
and Mikki, we don't that Brad Pitt has donated his time and money to New Orleans or that Angelina goes to third world countries? Oh that's right we do, because their people called the media to let them know. What does it really matter the reason? A charity is gaining from it, isn't that really all that matters? Again as I said above, most people (entertainers and civilians alike) don't do charity work, just because they should. If all celebs would no longer get press, attention and a tax right off for their giving to charities, you'd see a major drop in the charity work they all did.
First of all how I know you wouldn't believe. Second, to appeal to all the Negative Nellies here, people who are as wealthy as Urban and Kidman at the very least would be donating for the tax benefit. Whether or not you think they have hearts of stone is another matter and I can't sway anyone here on that topic.
Everyone gets something, not necessarily tangible, from donating to a needy situation. There are very few, if any at all truly selfless acts in this world. You can snub your nose at celebrities and believe that the $5 mill they gave to whatever charity was all for PR, but at the end of the day what's the difference between you donating $5 and enjoying the feeling of doing something nice for someone, enjoying the fact you are in a position to help. Kids in Haiti don't care whether the $1 that bought their food for the week was donated by Joe Schmoe who believes God compels them to share their wealth or some self-absorbed celebrity who really does everything for PR.
How many of you knew that KU assisted with the school or that KU & NK supported Fifty Forward months before it was public knowledge? They don't do enough? Why is it when its all laid out its ignored or its not the "right" charity. Some of you complain Nicole doesn't support American charities. But she's been heavily supporting UCLA's cancer research program before Keith cut the Ranch album. She's supported NY charities every year and this year she's a chair AGAIN for Fete de Swifty's. Do you all live in a fog of denial???
BTW, what's so wrong with only wanting to work when he wants to? I've seen that thrown out there from time to time, like it's a bad thing. Isn't that something we'd all like to be able to do? I enjoy the work of the actor James Spader. He has publically said he only works when he has to. He works to get some money stock piled, then doesn't work for a while. Sometimes years. He gets low on cash, he takes on a couple of roles.
I followed the Kidman/Cruise marriage only because I liked Tom Cruise and I do see how similiar the Kidman/Urban marriage is. I know what this marriage was designed to do. And I see what it has done to raise Keith's profile. Not only do we know every move he makes, but his private life became his personal hell by having it all spelled out in the tabloids. But nevertheless, I see how this "profile" can work against him. For people such as I who never liked Kidman, no matter who she married, being associated with her doesn't sit well. I understand he may have to promote her by saying artificial words of love and gratitude but for all intents and purposes, it is not becoming. He wanted the fame and fortune, and he got it, but did he have to destroy the talent to get there? While I believe this marriage is a farce, as most of what KUNK do, there was no reason for him to downgrade his music. He was doing just fine. It seems his mentality went by the wayside when he hooked up with her. I don't believe what he writes is really heart felt. If you really believe this woman is the love of your life, your savior, then shouldn't the words say something more than ooh baby, baby, put you in my head? I don't know maybe it is just me and wishful thinking, but his music is crap since she walked into it.
I know that I have always hated any mention of Sunday at all for PR purposes. I don't think her name is Suri Urban so why can't they let her be a private child?
Kidman has always been vocal (PR or mentioning it herself) about her charities. Keith gave time long before he had the money. There are many many famous people who do good works not for the ego nor for the tax break they just do it for the cause and themselves. I would not put either Kidman or Keith in that group.
LindaMarie, if you keep in mind that fame and fortune are the goal then it does make sense. For her ten year investment, NK left the Cruise marriage as a wealthy, famous, international moviestar. Fame by association, certainly not for her great work in films throughout that marriage.
Keith sells the marriage through his music. That pretty much tells the story, doesn't it?
So if someone asks Keith a question about Sunday and he answers them, it's for PR but if he doesn't, then what he's being rude, doesn't have a sense of humor anymore and thinks everything is too personal to answer? If he was doing it for PR wouldn't have taken photos and released them with the story? Or maybe he would have released the two songs with video on Youtube. Wasn't it not that long ago everyone was on him for not talking about Sunday or sounding like your typical Dad?
I give to my local charity, I give to a veteran's organization, and I give to an international organization. No one knows how much I give, or how frequently, because it is none of their business, and if I were famous it would still be none of their business. I cannot imagine why anyone would ever announce the amount of a charitable donation except self-edification, but hey, what ever works, huh.
Some of us work because we enjoy being productive and intelligent members of society. We work because we have something to contribute and to share. We even seek out opportunities to work because "to whom much is given, much is expected", so no is the answer to "isn't that what we all want"? I do not want to sit on my ass for the rest of my life watching time go by. I have intentions of looking back as an old lady and saying, yeah. . . that's what I built, and yeah. . . that's what we put together, and I did well, and I worked hard, and I wasted no time, except the time I spent blogging.
Nice way to twist around what I said, HL. I didn't say that Keith didn't ever want to work. Or that most people don't want to work. Keith said he wanted to work when he wanted to to work. As in he'd probably rather not work on holidays or maybe as this was said before he was married and had a child but maybe he would prefer to not work during the school year of his future childrens lives and only during the summer. Keith enjoys what he does too much to not want to do it ever. I enjoy what I do but I too would like to pick and choose when I work. As I think most would. That's all I was saying not that Keith or anyone else wants to "sit on their ass and watch time go by" as you put it. There is a difference.

They like her, they really, really like her.
Have you read any reviews? The ones I read seem to like the movie and her performance in it.
Oh. . . I love this stuff

He told a reporter last night that Get Closer is his last for Capitol Nashville. So he doesn't have a record deal. Interesting.
More pictures of NK on JJ today at the press conference. Funny how JJ and GG get those pictures right away. Her face is so jacked up (JMO).
Read that Keith said Sunday is two years and two months old. Who says that? Don't you just say your daughter is two?
Loser! WILL get that "striped-down aproach" for release...
http://www.keithurban.net/forum/index.php?topic=39440.45
"Capitol has targeted November for the release of a new Keith Urban album.
One label insider suggests the project will take a stripped-down approach,
though Capitol/EMI Nashville president/CEO Mike Dungan says he’s learned
to wait until Urban is done with an album to evaluate it stylistically."
...well, it seems the prez of capnash, Dungan, HAS NOT evaluated the orb's cd POSITIVELY, if in fact it is true that orb is out at capnash...stay tuned for future info...
...afterthoughtful...
..oh yeah, just wanted to give props to my fellow "Urban Mythbusters" who have now raised "Where's the Muse? option to now a total of 10 votes on the orb's new single poll! Thanks for taking the "cookie tossing" challenge I mentioned to mock the monkeys hilarious "tendency" to "play the tables!" Toss away!

I have a great caption for this picture:
"When asked how many flops Kidman has had in her career so far, she gave this for a response."
P.S. Anyone else notice in this picture that her shirt is way too small?
Tara, why would Keith say that now before his new CD is even out?
Is it just me, or does it appear that she has actual animation on her face in some of the press conference shots? How long must that have taken to learn?
Has there been talk of a distributor since they seem to be frothing at the mouth over the movie?
Let's just say orb gets his own label, what-Cletusrecords-can you imagine the artists he'd employ?
For heaven's sake, he told this piece of info to that suck-up, Roger Friedman, who never met a Kidman quote he didn't like or use.
So why would Keith say that to HIM?
mikki said...
Good question A440.
I'm going out on a limb and saying that Nicole will be funding his new record label. Can you imagine how teeny-bopper the label name will be?
hoosierlady, she swapped the botox for a face lift in 09'. Had to because she was a frozen JOKE. Too bad she can't let the air out of those lips!
Have to wait out the week to see what films get picked up.
...oh...it was from vomit inducing friedman? Saw he had a sycophantic article...but I simply passed over it.
http://www.showbiz411.com/2010/09/14/nicole-kidman-rabbit-hole-is-a-gem
OH oh...
...it looks like the "monkeyland scalpers" are at it once again...

I can't believe how some have been able to obtain tickets, but more have not been able to do so...what is the explanation behind this...why has it been so difficult...I really don't want to have to pay 3 times the amount of a ticket (as I have many times in the past) when I should be able to obtain my pre-sale tickets)."

Maclen
I remember that DEFYING GRAVITY was No.
I think that
he either has a deal somewhere else
or he is telling everyone he is available.
I don't think he is trying to reup with Cap Nash as some are suggesting
you don't run to the press when your sales are that bad and tell people you are happy to be free.
I would not doubt that the Kurbans will be in Oz for Oprah. Rabid Hole may be in theaters by then
and the record will be out all over the world so why not- I don't think they are the best that can be offered. Although as I am writing this will Kidman share a stage with Keith??? I kinda doubt it.
also Kidman lie 1 million something
she said at the press for the film yesterday that she recently took Keith to his first subtitled film and he liked reading movies.
PS: thanks, blue sky!
Keep the popcorn coming!

Which IS why most of the performers from last year ARE NOT appearing this year!
...fittingly...
...so the trevails of the monkeylanders at the hands of the monkeyland scalpers...part 2...

WTF!
Read what Lainey said. They were both at work. Him on one side she on the other not meeting in the middle but working.. I find that very telling
Not impressed.

Just ask those monkey-members I posted above!
...forwarned...
...HA! SO...if you now go to monkeyland and check out the "benefit for orb" thread...
http://www.keithurban.net/forum/index.php?topic=40700.390
...you notice all those monkey-members who COULDNT GET TICKETS have stopped posting...AND NOW...all the "monkeyland scalpers" are coming out of the wood work...mysteriously, with all these tickets THEY CANT USE and are WILLING TO SELL!

"I think those extra tickets for sale should be mentioned in protected area only.
Where is that I have/want tickets thread?"

okay I MOVED the ticket info on my post... but it is still on here as for the copies... but truly I don't really care!! Just thought I'd get the messages off my "bacK" so to speak, hahahaha
so IF ANYONE WANTS A GREAT TICKET, PACKAGE AND A MEET AND GREET MESSAGE ME .... or check out the I have ticket thread above this thread, under ALL FOR THE HALL. and you will see details again.
and go read the info on what comes with this package ... It is awesome!!"
...again, WOW...A GREAT TICKET, PACKAGE AND A MEET AND GREET? How much do those goes for again? Well, this scalper...I mean monkey doesnt specify which package...so...is this the "I'm in" package that goes for $1500...the "Making Memories" package that goes for $2500...or "Once In a Lifetime" package that goes for 3000?!! AND this monkey is just WILLING to just GIVE this package away as well, right? Right??
I'm not impressed with him selling such exorbitantly priced ticket packages - even if it is for charity!
Talk about shit-ton of broker tix...

123, I'm stunned and stand corrected. I'd heard a while back that KUNK had already looked at Catholic schools for her. It didn't dawn on me that they were boarding schools.
I honestly didn't think Keith would stoop that low. This is disheartening.
As expected Rabbit Hole was picked up

Now if she can only find an audience. And all that oscar buzz - heard it all before with Fur and Margot - both failed at the box office.
HA! Yes, mikki...it's the "last gasp!"
Now, my point on the "monkeyland scalpers" is how this clearly goes "counterpoint" to what the orb intended when he announced this whole "benefit for orb" last year.

"All I can find through Wikipedia is that Defying Gravity has sold 891,000 copies as of June 2010.

"It was James on the CMT Board to told us about DG being platinum because of that 100,000 shipment by CN. I don't know why RIAA isn't showing DG as platinum yet. I think I recall that CN has to request the certification and I bet there is a fee involved. Could be wrong because my memory isn't what it used to be so anyone that knows more, please jump in."
Well, unfortunatlely for these monkeys...a simple check over at the RIAA website explains...
http://www.riaa.com/goldandplatinum.php?content_selector=criteria
Certification Criteria
"Recordings become eligible for certification 30 days after initial street date. Audio and music video titles may be requested for award certification starting 30 days after product is commercially available to consumers."
...to be continued...
..."LAte Night musings" continued...
I hope Keith has cleared his docket for this time next year. Here are her plans for the Urban family.
"The 'Moulin Rouge' actress will play Alexandra Del Lago in a revival of the Tennessee Williams play 'Sweet Bird of Youth' in the Fall of 2011."
Thanks for the tip A440...
This is how her role is described in the NY Post:

I wonder again if he has a deal
somewhere.
So lets see a possible Oscar nom for Rabid Hole, an Emmy for the HBO thing because everyone in an HBO movie gets and Emmy Nomination and then perhaps a Tony - Kidmans new people know what they are doing.
blue sky:
Sorry to freak you out.
"responsible for hosting the backstage and VIP areas on the tour, providing everyone with tasty food."
http://www.countryhound.com/kc-masterpiece-kingsford-charcoal-sponsor-keith-urbans-tour
...and I also recall there was a "Verizon VIP Tour Keith Urban Beyond the Music"...where orb played a few "concerts" at a few Verizon stores...but I figure that was simply promotion.

123, Nic told Oprah that she had had a C-section.
And tks for the info on the tattoos. I didn't know a few of the details you mentioned. I agree with your analysis. He inks himself as a show of love. It mirrors what he once said on TV. He never uses pencil to write his lyrics, only pen. That way it's permanent.
The same for his tattoos.
maclen, I don't think Keith would be stupid enough to announce to any reporter that hes done with Capitol if it isn't true.
I was refering to this...
http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/recording-contract6.htm
"Finally, there is a concept called cross-collateralization. Let's say a band's first album does well, but not well enough to recover all the recoupable costs, charge-backs, etc. For example:
* The record company sells 300,000 CDs and makes $3 million.
* The band gets a 10% royalty.

So now the interesting part...as recently as last week, the wiki page for Defying sales had it "selling 891,971 cds as of June 2010"...
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:OzAKfNS8ziMJ:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defying_Gravity_(Keith_Urban_album)+http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defying_Gravity_(Keith_Urban_album)&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
...A check of the wiki page today it seems the page had been updated to show...that DS has now "sold 894,440 cds as of Sept 2010!"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defying_Gravity_(Keith_Urban_album)
So apparently, Defying sales sold a total of 2,469 cds since June...that's 2,469 cds...IN 3 MONTHS! Yes...at that rate, I wouldnt be holding MY breath of Defying sales selling Platinum! And I would surely say that the orb HAS underformed by "declination theory" of orb selling only half of his previous cd. And on the subject of my recent comment where a monkey is lamenting the fact that the orb's PR truly lacks behind swifty's...as I predicted, that thread has a total of...ZERO REPLIES!
http://www.keithurban.net/forum/index.php?topic=41062.0
...yes, the subject of swifty IS a very sore point to the monkeys! NOw the other thread I posted...the thread lamenting that the orb's new stuff is too "popish" and not "spiritual" for his/her taste...

Oh no, you know where this is going. . .
Poor suffering Keith, he is so unique, he cannot find a home.
I'm losing my breakfast.

No doubt a PR event to promo his new single...the orb was just presented with an "INTERNATIONAL" award by the ACM Honors...
http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2010/09/21/keith-urban-collects-international-award/
Keith Urban Collects International Award

Well, now along the recent asinine news of orb receiving an "International award...you know, along with the accolades that the orb "has conquered the world"...for "taking his music" to the far off land of...Canada...orb will soon be making an appearence on Extreme makeover...
http://www.cmt.com/news/news-in-brief/1648147/carrie-underwood-keith-urban-help-extreme-makeover-home-edition.jhtml
So, today...orb HAS finally figured out what his new cd is about...
http://www.theboot.com/2010/09/22/keith-urban-get-closer-new-album-2010/
Keith Urban Reveals Intimate Details of 'Get Closer'
"In a recent video chat through his website, Keith explained the title and what it means to him, personally, saying "I write love songs; that's what I write. I write songs about relationships, whatever that relationship is. In my case, they're boy-girl songs that get written from a perspective where they're 'he and she' or they're 'you and me.'"
...seems only two and a half weeks ago...orb HAD NO IDEA what his cd or the song meant...
http://blogs.mcall.com/lehighvalleymusic/2010/09/keith-urban-talks-about-new-disc-career-future.html
September 2, 2010
Keith Urban talks about new disc, career future
Maclean:
So orb is promoting his new single with news that he will be appearing on behalf of that CHARITABLE CAUSE..."orb is such a GREAT HUMANITARIAN... and he has a new single out, by the way, why dont you go buy it!"
Now, that IS only the NEWS that he is gonna be a great humanitarian...the actually show where orb will appear on behalf of a "noble cause" is scheduled to premiere only a few days before the CMA awards...so..."Hey all you CMA awards voters...show your GRATITUDE to orb, that great humanitarian, and vote for him for CMA "ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR"...he oh so truly DESERVES it...for all the work he's done for Nashville's beloved Hall of Fame and the nearby Christian School!" The orb's obvious and callous exploition...and of course, the TIMING of these endeavers... of the Christian School to shill his single...and his exploitation of the HAll of FAMe to troll for CMA awards votes is so patently obvious...you have to be a total imbecile not to see it...or simply a fansie, who obviously doesnt give a damn.

"The whole damn album was inspired by his wife, including the title.
Period.

Jasfro, Nicole & Keith help charities year round whether they get press for it or not? If its not in the media just how would you know that??
and Mikki, we don't that Brad Pitt has donated his time and money to New Orleans or that Angelina goes to third world countries?
Mikki:
Meow....
