CMA ENTERTAINER AND MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR NOMINEE KEITH URBAN TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “PUT YOU IN A SONG”; TO HIT RADIO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH
NEW URBAN CD GET CLOSER IN STORES NOVEMBER 16th
On September 13th, CMA Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year nominee and three-time Grammy Award winner Keith Urban will release his debut single “Put You In A Song”, from his forthcoming Tuesday, November 16th release GET CLOSER. “Put You In A Song” was co-written by Urban, Sarah Buxton and Jedd Hughes and is co-produced by Dann Huff and Urban.
“I’ve always loved songs about ‘the guy in love with the unattainable girl’, said Urban of “Put You In A Song. “And the idea that the only chance that this poor guy is ever going to have to get close to the object of his affection is to put her in a song, just struck me. That way he’d be able to take her with him everywhere he goes...day and night.”
Urban added, “On my way to write with Jedd (Hughes) and Sarah (Buxton), I stopped by this music shop and bought a bouzouki. I got it out of the case, we got a great groove going on the drum machine, I started playing the opening riff and the song just took off.”
GET CLOSER follows Urban’s Billboard Top 200 Album Chart #1 Defying Gravity, which produced two #1 singles including "Only You Can Love Me This Way" and “Sweet Thing”, for which Urban won his third Grammy Award (Best Male Country Vocal Performance).
Urban is currently in the studio in Nashville, putting the finishing touches on GET CLOSER.

Big surprise...the first single...a LOVE song. I'll bet the next single will be that ode to fatherhood! So, orb not needing just one co-writer...but now two? I just noticed that of the orb's recent singles, just the past 6 singles, orb co-wrote only 3...and the other 3 were written by other writers. I submit the orb simply DOESNT have the chops to write a hit single on his own! So orb wants to "Get Closer" and "Put you in a song?" Well, I certainly called it...an ode to his bland "marital domestication!" This will be fun...cant wait for the reviews...and I've already got the demeaning tag for orb's new album of ditties. I will from this day forward refer to this cd as... "Get! Loser!" So again, orb claims he is just over the half way mark of finishing this new cd? He now has about 8 weeks to finish off the second half of this cd! Oh, such fun weeks ahead!
...futurethought...
...my bad...just reread my posted comment...make that about 11 weeks to finish the cd...not the 8 weeks I just mentioned. Considering it took orb the past 9 months to get the first half done...the second half should be a batch of true clunkers! The monkeylanders gushing aside, the true measure of course will be the sales...AND DO NOT NEGLECT my "Declination theory!" HEre it is again...
* Be Here (2004)- sold 4 mill copies
* Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing (2006)sold 2 mill copies
* Defying Sales (2009)-sold 891,971 copies as of June, 2010.
* Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing (2006)-sold 267k cd in it's first WEEK.
* Defying Sales (2009)-sold 171k cd in its first WEEK.
* Get! Loser! (2010)- sold ???
Well based on my "declination theory", "Get! LOser!" may well sell only 85k cds in its first week? probably not, but the question is...can it sell 100k? 150k? Will it even sell Defying Sales 171k? And with the recent decline in cd sales overall? That will be the question...and the indication of how much of a failure it will be for orb.
Some more interesting points about orb's upcoming cd..."Get! Loser!" Mikki makes a point in the previous thread...that the cd is "positioned" to go to #1 in it's first week of release. Well, here is an interesting point. Orb's cd is set to be released on Nov. 16...I became curious, and checked who else may have a cd dropping the week or Nov. 16. Now, recall, last year, orb's Defying Sales was released in march, the same week that Prince's cd, Lotusflow3r, and recall again, Prince's cd was ONLY sold at Target stores....and orb JUST BARELY outsold Prince's cd! Now, guess who else is releasing a cd on Nov. 16? Yes...Kid Rock! Recall the monkey who recently whined about how kid rock got to perform 3 songs to only orb's 2 songs at the CMA music festival telecast a few days ago! And take note of this info...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_N_Roll_Jesus
Kid Rock's previous cd..."Rock n Roll Jesus...released on Oct 9 2007...
"The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling about 172,000 copies in its first week. It is Kid Rock's first and only album so far to go #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album rebounded in March 2008 when "All Summer Long" was released as a single climbing back into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 staying for 17 weeks. It has been certified 3 times platinum by the RIAA and 5 million Worldwide and was certified 2 times platinum in Canada and gold Germany, Austria and Australia."
Orb's Defying Sales is so far only certified GOld (500k) by RIAA...with 890k sold...and has been recently certified single Platinum in Canada (80k)
Boy, everytime I take a look at orb's prospects...I can always find another huge mountain the orb must overcome!
...futurenotion...
...oh oh...more bad news for orb fansies...
...another cd dropping on NOv. 16?
Rascal Flatts "Nothin' Like This"
RF's previous cd, Unstoppable" performance:
" The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. with 351,000 copies sold, making it the band's fifth consecutive number-one debut on the chart. As of November 2009, the album has sold 1,030,796 copies in the United States.
Well, the question is, who will be #1 for the week of Nov.16? But more inportantly, who will sell the most cds? The previously 3mill cd selling Kid rock...the previously 1 mill cd selling Rascal Flatts...or the previously 890k cd selling orb? So, who else is releasing a cd on Nov.16!?
maclen, you answered so many questions for me. I was going to ask if anyone knows the sales numbers for Rascal Flatts since their last album came out a week after Defying Sales and blew it out of the water. I commented in my earlier post on the older blog that Taylor Swift has an album coming out the end of October. This really couldn't get any better. We should start popping popcorn because I think this will be a show we don't want to miss - if you know what I mean!
He is screwed with a capital F.
You can't keep Kid Rock on the shelves, and you can't keep Rascal Flatts on the shelves, I remember bringing the box of Rascall Flatts CD's up from the back and just putting them on the floor beside me. It was easier than going to get them for people. Kid Rock was an out everytime I pulled up my outs.
I think I will hear his falsetto live without ever leaving my living room.
I'm with you, Maclen, oh what fun this will be! Poor, Orb, what has he done to himself. I do hope it was worth it.
Popcorn? Did I hear popcorn? Blue sky, do you think this will be that good? If you do, I will go buy some and be ready!
If it is that good, I have an idea for all of the Urban Myths crowd, but we have to wait. . . . .
We must wait, to see how it goes before I tell you what I have dreamed up. . . . .
Ok to get the Movie Theatre Butter Kind? Screw the stupid diet! I've decided I'm tired of looking in the rear view in the mirror anyhow!
Well, blue sky and hoosier...add kanye west to the list of musicians putting out a cd on Nov 16! despite kanye's near meltdown last year...what with the bizarre incident with taylor swift...kanye STILL sold more cds than orb!
"In its first week of sales, 808s & Heartbreak reached the number one spot on Billboard 200, selling 450,145 units in its first week.[38] In the last week of the year, 808s & Heartbreak sold 165,100 copies, jumping from the eleventh spot back up to the number five on the Billboard 200.[39] The album moved up again the following week, selling 70,900 units and landing at number three.[40] On January 27, 2009, 808s & Heartbreak was certified platinum in sales by the RIAA, serving as West's fourth album to sell 1 million copies in the United States...It's sold a total of 1.7 mil."
So, blue sky and hoosier...orb HAS no say...no control over when or how this cd is going to be released! Why would capnash set orb's release the same day as kid rock, Rascal Flatts and kanye west? They cant be ignorant of what happened during that kanye VS 50 Cent bet in 2007, can they? 50 Cent bet kanye that he would retire from music if kanye's cd sold more than his the first week...(btw, kanye sold more...but 50 cent DIDNT retire!) Well, in comes kenny chesney...
Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates
"On September 11, 2007, Chesney released the album Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates. The album represented a move to a more gulf and western sound with a number of "breezy, steel-drum island songs." Kanye West's album Graduation, as well as 50 Cent's album Curtis, were released on the same day. Kanye West and 50 Cent were in the midst of a competitive sales war, with 50 Cent claiming he would end his solo rap career if West sold more albums than he did (remarks he later retracted as terms with of contract conflicted with the promise). Kenny Chesney, however, decided he would give country music a place in the competition, claiming country artists were just as popular as rap artists. Chesney came in third place in the number of record sales between the three musical artists.
Well, basically as I mentioned earlier, Capnash is rush releasing orb's cd...because they were NOT going to FUND orb's cd well into next year! They wouldnt give him MORE TIME or MORE MONEY considering his obvious and mediocre cd sales. It's that simple! So yes, it will be a very interesting...and hilarious few months!
I'll take popcorn with real butter made the old-fashion way!
If I were a betting person, I'd bet that in the three weeks time from when Taylor's album gets released until Keith's come out, the number of albums Taylor sells in that time will be more than what Keith sells in a year.
I can't wait to see the numbers. His album has no hope, and it hasn't even hit the shelves yet!
Yeah, interesting about swifty...her last cd, Fearless, according to wiki has now sold 6 million cds. Swifty I would gather, still has a very hefty fanbase to fall back on. Orb...not so much! Now, another interesting point, I love to mock the monkeys who are obsessed with the orb's "singles" hits! "Oh, he has 2 #1s and two #3s and another that was at #2 for Defying Sales, how can he NOT be a success!" Well, I'm NOT impressed, since learning that Country singles hits are NOT based on how many are sold...but how many ARE placed on the charts by radio requests. Therefore I mock the ceaseless and endless monkeys "robo calling" county radio stations to get the orbs singles down the charts. You see, music Singles USED to be sold...way back in the day...back to the early days of rock n roll, when they used to sell albums on "vinyl records" that played on record players at 33 and a 3rd RPMs! And they also use to sell 45's...smaller vinyl records...you know with the huge hole in the middle! They used to actually have million selling songs...from Elvis...chuck berry...buddy holly. Well, with the advent of compact disks in the 1980s, vinyl records went kaput..as did the 45 singles. Now, early on they used to sell cd singles...remember them? When was the last time you or anyone you know bought a cd single? Well, now in the "digital age" it's now time for the "compact disk" to soon go "kaput!" So, no cd singles are sold...so basically singles are no longer sold and singles charts are basically decided by the aforementioned "radio requests" And quite easy to "manipulate" by a few at the fansie sites with nothing better to do than to repeatedly call radio stations and request their little orbsie's new single! Now, the RIAA DOES keep gold and platinum certs for "digital downloads" of songs from the music downloading sites...aka, itunes...etc...but you dont hear very much about that about alot of musicians. They may sell dig downloads, but it's not as if they are using it for promo...basically, because they DONT sell enough to make any hay out of it! You'll never hear about how many digital downloads, say for instance, the orb sells, right? But, actually, I think the only musician you'll basically read about how may digital downloads she sells...is...taylor swift. In fact, swifty IS the most downloaded artist.

DIGITAL SONGS
"Taylor Swift was the top artist in terms of digital song certifications. The country/pop star had 25. Her top titles were "Love Story" (which is four times platinum) and "Teardrops On My Guitar," "Our Song" and "You Belong With Me" (each of which has been certified two times platinum)."
So, when I hear about the orbs "hit singles"...again, I'm not too impressed! In fact, his new single coming out later this month...is simply, promotion for his album, and nothing more.
Add this into the mix:
"Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen's 'The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story' on November 16."
maclen, I bet we hear in the weeks to come that "Get Closer" will be delayed. No way does Keith and Capital want to put a CD out the same time as RF's, he will be slaughtered. Big reason I think that is I'm sure between now and then Keith will make it all about Nicole. He has no other choice. It is his lot in life now. I don't see any song for Rose ever. Nicole wont let that happen, it is all about her.
maclen, Keith himself spends a lot of time calling in to various radio stations doing interviews. Maybe to get his songs played more often??
He's his own groupie?
That's good.

OOOh, "The Boss!?" So what is Springsteen's previous track record?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_on_a_Dream
"Working on a Dream is the 16th studio album by Bruce Springsteen, released on January 27, 2009. It has sold over 3 million copies worldwide." (US- sold 1 mill- Platinum cert)
So kid rock, rascal flatts, the boss...all platinum sellers previously...to the orb's still GOLD seller? And yes, rememberwhen, for the orb, RF perhaps does pose the orb the most problems due to the same music genre. Well it happens all the time with film releases...an average film is already set for release on a certain date..only to see another BLOCKBUSTER film suddenly set for release on that same date...the "average" film's release date gets changed! But I'm still of the mind that capnash has set the time and amount they are willing to pay for orb's new cd. And Nov 16 is the set date...no matter who else is also dropping on that day! I can surely see capnash not having confidence in orb's stuff...to spend more on it...and simply set the time to get it out of the way! And clearly, capnash sees his numbers I see.

Clearly mikki, orb's strategy has been, based on his cd sales the past few years...is to concentrate on radio stations and singles charts. All orb has now is his fansie's ability to manipulate phone and online charts or polls. That would explain monkeyland's campaign of robo-calls and online poll robo-voting...ie: tossing their cookies! Cant recall how many times Ive read monkeylanders posts...explaining to other members not to forget to vote online... then..."delete your cookies and vote again...and again...and again! Ive said it once, and I'll said it again... "Why dont the monkeys "organize" and get the orb's cd, Defying sales to that platinum cert of 1 millions SALES?! Well, the answer is simple, they would need to BUY...110 thousand MORE CDS! HA! Not so easy huh?
Does anybody know if this is Keith's final album for CapNash?
Is it really nice to wish for someone to be unsucessful? Is that really mature? Seriously, I think I sense a little jealousy...
Is this guy lame or what? When is he going to wake up that he got nothing special...just look at her, what she had become, even if you assumed she was hot (nah) before like two decades ago.....
Jealous? Yeah, you would think that Laura. No one is wishing anything on Keith. Theres nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious. He sold 4 million CD's before NK, and has declined in sales EVERY CD since hooking up with her. He lost half his fan base the first year they were together. How do you know? By CD sales, from 4 million down to 2 million with the Pain album. Its his choice whether he wants to be successful for his talents or have fame by association (as NK's husband). And for as long as they've been together he has chosen (or agreed to) the latter. No one is wishing for him to be unsuccessful. Thats ridiculous. But you certainly can't argue that every CD sells less than the last one did, EVERY TIME. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know whats coming with the next one, do you?
You also don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know that music sales in general and country music sales to be specific are down. Yes, there are the few that have sold well (Ivery well even) but they are the few and far between. It's funny you guys can bring up all the ones who are doing better then Keith but when you are shown by a list of who is also a big star in the genre and not selling well, then, it's we don't care about them we're talking about Keith Urban. If we wanted to talk about Alan Jackson, Martina McBride or Dierks Bentley's sales we'd be on their boards.
Oh and by the way Maclen, there will be an All for the Hall this year and for the most part they went old school this year. The guests include Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Charley Pride, Martina McBride along with Billy Currington, Miranda Lambert, Allison Krause and your favorite John Mayer. Funny I thought old school Nashville hated Keith??? Surely they won't want to share a stage with with napalm John???
