"Keith Urban will host the third All for the Hall benefit concert for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Jan. 18. Urban will perform at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena with guests Vince Gill, Rascal Flatts, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Little Big Town and the Oak Ridge Boys. More artists will be announced at a later date."
...so orb moves the "Benefit for ORB" from early Oct...as it was held in 2009 and 2010...to early Jan. Orb having "picked" those early Oct dates for the "Benefits for ORB" in CLEAR attempts...as it fell as I proclaimed back in 2009 just about a month AWAY from the CMA awards smack dab in the middle of awards voting...to "influence" the voting for "entertainer" in his favor. So now...WHAT possible reason could orb have in choosing an early JAN date for his "Benefit for ORB", you may ask? Well...let's see...orb's ONLY SURE FIRE award has been at the Grammys...but as you all may recall..for next years Grammys...the categories have been changed up a little. In fact...categories have been eliminated for next years Grammys...there is no LONGER categories for BEST MALE and FEMALE...and now there is only BEST COUNTRY SOLO PERFORMANCE and BEST COUNTRY DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE...along with the remaining BEST COUNTRY SONG and BEST COUNTRY ALBUM. So, instead of orb competing SIMPLY with the likes of Trace Adkins, Billy Currington Jamey Johnson, and George Strait in the BEST MALE PERFORMANCE...orb will no doubt be thrown in with the likes of swifty, chesney...lady ant...etc. in the...you know...categories for the music...like BEST COUNTRY SONG AND BEST COUNTY ALBUM! So now, Ive so far neglected to mention when next years Grammys are to be held, by the way. So yes, next years Grammys will be held on Feb 12, 2012! That's right...ONLY a month AFTER orb's 2012 "Benefit for ORB." Well, it would seem the orb is looking to try and shore up his only "sure fire" award...up until the changes in orb's USUALLY "sure fire" awards ceremony that is! And speaking of "brownnosing"...no one BROWNNOSED the Grammys like the orb! HA!
It was moved because Vince Gill wasn't available to play the show in October as he is on tour. Keith didn't want to do the show without Vince. Keith said it every time he was asked about the show. Including when I asked him about the show in June but lets not let facts stand in the way of you slanting a story your way.
Oh yeah...that $25 membership to monkeyland gives the fansie's "all the facts...and nothing but the facts" I'm sure. Just as that little fee gives the monkeys "the best deals on tickets to the "Benefit for ORB"!" HA! Yeah, I do recall READING the absolute satisfaction on the ease they get those tickets at monkeyland! No doubt a huge reason they shut off their message board... the complaints...and the rancor from public view. Just because they "wash their laundry in private now...by no way means it gets any cleaner!" HA!
...as to orb's little "foray" into "comedy skit-dom"...his appearance on Ellen. Seems the orb caught swifty's appearance on Ellen's first show this season...and their little "mock" in depth interview. Of course the "unimaginative" and "unoriginal" orb has to get in on the "monkey business"! OH yeah, mini "fabio" was a total laugh riot...not...
Well, what is also obviously clear...what with orb's album falling off the Top 200 albums in sales...there is NOT going to be much reporting on attendance on the last week of orb's very lackluster tour. Since returning to the end of orb US tour on sept 26...NOT one reported attendance stats...no blaring headlines of "sell out"...for clearly there havent been may sellouts on this summer tour for orb. All you get are a few lame gimmicks of orb minicking swifty's "special guests" at the Staples Center...and all the stale in concert chattle. So, "who had the best seats now? Clearly NOT as many as there were in 2009...that's for sure.
I don't know how well the "commercial" went over because this morning on my local Country radio station they were speculating on whether or not Keith really cared about the sales of the toilet water since Ellen is controversial and the gag was a send up on his image.
I saw the interview I think we can all breath a sign of relief and say he is still on the Kidman payroll. I will venture to say that baby number 3 is probably in negotiations.
I thought it was funny and I think that Ellen has been pretty good to Keith over the years.
Zac Brown Band You Get What You Give 7,917 1,210,070
...so, pretty much MOST of the artists who released an album last year have at least a platinum selling cd...OR will have one at least by the end of the year. The flatts and chesney who have also fallen off in sales and are no longer included in this listing of sales numbers were both at the mid 900k sales mark...and should also reach that platinum mark at least by the end of the year. And the orb? Well, with only about 645k sold..his lowly output of sales in the 1k per week should have him reaching platinum in about....another year or two? Actually based on his sales per week it will be 8 years! Lady ant's new cd...released only 4 weeks ago has now already sold 605k...now only about 40k cds behind the orb. They should be outselling the orb in a week or two at most. So, it's clear orb cd is a dud. And his next will no doubt sell EVEN LESS...that's been the trend the past 4 years. Orb's canadian opening act, the band perry are at 788k...and at sales still at the 8k per week...and considering their cd came out BEFORE orb's cd last year...they obviously have the staying power the orb doesnt have!
"The 5’8 Urban has leapt off the main stage, pushed his way through a crowd of more than 10,000 and is now at center court of the Pepsi Center."
...10k at the Pepsi Center...yeah, that's the 20k concert capacity Pepsi center. So, that's only 50% capacity for the lackluster orb...for his lackluster tour...to go along with his lackluster career!
I wasn't fond of Urban's comment after the commercial was shown on the show. Ellen is the only woman on the planet that could do that to him and not have his wife get jealous. Why because she is a lesbian? So I don't think all the male actors are homosexual that Kidman performed sex scenes with in her movies. Maybe Kidman told Urban not to be jealous over her first marriage for the exact same reason. Now we know who wears the pants in that "marriage" for sure. Only lesbians can touch Urban, and heterosexual males can touch his wife!
You would have to care about someone to be jealous if someone is messing with yours. I doubt Kidman would care except how it reflects on her. I mean isn't she supposed to "act" like the loving wife? Look at how women throw themselves at him in concert. Kidman could care less because there would be little of that coming out where she would have to confront that. If he had the off stage life he had before the contract then we would see more of the Kidman persona of wife. However he does what she wants him to do and he is granted a bit of freedom. He said it on Tuesday- its easy to love her- probably because it is all written down on how to act about her.
Oh Tara you seem to have a finger on that button!! :D KU loves the play on words. I like deciphering his little messages. Now I take the meaning of easy to love.... No responsibility..No contact other then when she calls and tells him to be here or there.....And absolutely no need to be anywhere near her at any time other then red carpets and public appearances.
So it is easy to love his pay check. Now the original contract was for him to escort her for a period of one year. For that he was to be paid a nice tidy sum. She took that and blew it out of the water!! But he is still doing what the original contract stated and he will not do anymore than that!! ((giggles)))
I think he is coming to the end of the road and Moosie girl is hunting!! ;)
So, I thought I'd bring back a comment I used to do years ago...6 whole years ago when I was pretty sure kidman's career was on the way down for sure Z grade tripe. So it's been about a month and a half since kidman went publically MIA...and clearly the reason she is hiding out in some "undisclosed bunker"... is her montrosity of a film, Trespass...which is due out in theaters tommorrow. OH the fun of noting it's "box office" intake the first weekend is ALMOST worth a ticket in admission...BUT NO I will NOT be buying a ticket to this adomination! Heck, just look up a bootleg on the innertubes...it;s that's insignifant. So, now here...just a few choice quotes...and the most hilarious... from reviews of Trespass.
"First-time screenwriter Karl Gajdusek’s attempts at making timely observations about the dangers of living beyond one’s means are drowned out by the howlers coming out of the characters’ mouths. Although Kyle’s line to his captors, “If it’s a kidney you want, then take mine, ass-f%&k,” could have been uttered by Cage in any one of his vehicles from the past decade, hearing Kidman bellow, “Do it, so we can all die because I don’t give a f#%k anymore,” seems to reveal the actress’s desperation more than Sarah’s."
"After getting banged around like a rag doll, Nicole Kidman turns black, blue and bloody, actually managing the impossible feat of looking cadaverous—and it’s not just the makeup."
http://hollywoodandfine.com/reviews/?p=4332
"The film stars two actors who have come to define contemporary box-office poison: Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage."...Really, what’s the point of going on? “Trespass” reeks of desperation, of careers in free-fall and of a movie company shoveling product out the door like so much manure. Even at 85 minutes, it feels interminable."
"Directed by the generally uninspired but at times inexplicably bankable Joel Schumacher, and starring a facially bloated Nicolas Cage and a facially frozen Nicole Kidman in a faux-elaborate home-invasion scenario, this picture could have been alternately titled "The Desperate-to-Find-a-New-Agent Hours."...""Trespass" is still something of a dog, although it does provide some nasty laughs insofar as it features once big movie stars going through the paces of cheapie quasi-grindhouse thrillers. The climax even throws in some nail-gun action, in the honorable tradition of "The Toolbox Murders."
"Everyone knew Cage and director Joel Schumacher (“The Number 23”) had sunk to this level, but Kidman? It's also very sad to see the promising Liberato, so good in David Schwimmer’s “Trust,” wrapped up in this mess, which recalls the absurd Harrison Ford thriller “Firewall.” That ain’t a compliment."
....YES...kidman too! Why are we the only ones to have seen that coming!? Well, ordinarily this would be a time of happy rejoicing by the kidman fansies...but considering kidman is hiding out, much of which the reason is this film...the kidman fansies are also hiding out... because of kidman's embarrassing career!
maclen..You definitely tell it like it is! ((giggles)) I saw a trailer a while ago of Moosie sitting on the floor her legs in a not very lady like position clinging to NC. To tell you the truth it looked like NC was thinking how did I ever get myself in this mess!!! ((giggles))) No wonder he ran away twice I would have too but I would never have come back!! ;)
Yeah, Hattie...this thing is a debacle of montrous proportion! This film is ONLY going to be shown in 10 theaters! That's just an embarrassment. Now as to the orb...if you'll notice...orb is just NOW getting MASSIVE PR and PRESS...he's actually getting "swifty-sized" coverage...and all it took was doing a rather cheesey commerical send-up on the Ellen Degeneres show! He couldnt get this size PR for his cd...or his tour. When he had fogerty and jack black at Staples he didnt get this much news play. But in a insignificant commercial parody...where orb's "acting" is as wooden as kidman's...every other news story is the ellen show. Perhaps orb would do better to join the Ellen show as the in-house DJ...he MAY then sell MORE cds!

...so orb gained $23k gross overall... 38 cents on avg ticket price...and 362 more people ...from last weeks averages. So back when orb first appeared on the Pollstar avg gross list...I speculated IF orb would be able to reach the $500k per show average...or for that matter...9000 per show attendance before his tour ended. Well, the end is near...and orb HASNT YET reached those marks yet. Now of course, for me...the standard...beyond the overall gross...that mainly matters to the musicans, ie: how much money are they going to make...the standard IS..."how many tickets do they sell?" Certainly ticket price plays into the equatuion a little...but mainly the difference can be simply how many tickets do they sell and how many people are willing to shell out their hard earned money to see them live. And of course, crunching ALL the country performers numbers...orb...NOT UNSURPRISING....always seems to end up LAST...of the country performers on this weeks list...
Chesney- 28,177 attendance per show
swifty- 23,932 attendance per show
Paisley- 17,687 attendance per show
R Flatts- 16,657 attendance per show
Aldean- 15,779 attendance per show
orb- 8,876 attendance per show
...orb once again trails the crowd. Now I went through this exact same point back in 2009, but paisley's avg tix price is lower than orb's...paisley's is only $37 to orb's $55...BUT because paisley sold MORE tickets than orb...8,811 more tickets to be exact...paisley simply grossed more than orb...$668k to orb's $489k. Now that IS different than in 2009, where orb was grossing more per show than paisley. But orb has clearly fallen...and it seems most others have either stayed even or will surpass their past numbers. The ONLY constant in orb's career right now...is that all indicators are falling downward!
Yes maclen...It's a shame Ellen didn't have designs on KU six years ago!! ((giggles)) I don't know what we would call the duo? But we would have had at least some laughs.
Ellen is a good comedian. She is artful at her trade. I like the way she can make her personal touches funny without using her subject the tool for her comedy.(except in this case) ((giggles))
I think KU was suppose to be wooden like he was being attacked due to the cologne's influence. Whatever the message was..it was entertaining. :D
I don't think Keith really tried acting on the fauxmercial- I think that was the point. Its funny and about as relevant as the toilet water he is schilling. I am however intrigued by the rumors that Keith is going to commit to a season of the Voice down under early next year. I think that was pretty clever to put himself out as a mentor. he will also raise his profile beyond being married to "our Nic"
Love the reviews for Trespass- many are saying its an unintentional comedy.
"In his Australian accent, the country star acknowledged the big game that had some in the crowd preoccupied - and perhaps led to a number of empty seats in the upper deck. He got an early game update from a fan and said, "If you're all glancing down at your phones for a score tonight, I'll understand."
...yes...this tour this summer WAS so pathetic...even orb feels the need to address his paltry turn out. Oh yes...it WAS the game that led to those empty seats. No...not if you realize orb's numbers ARE typically that paltry! HA! And of course, the irony....swifty's audience WOULD NOT be preoccupied by a baseball game. Seems when your mediocre...you just cant catch a break. And oh yes...ANOTHER surprise guest...and of course a "Capitol record" signed guest. I guess orb called in a favor to his former label....he desperately needs the help! This sorry tour is done in two nights. No doubt it will end..not with a bang but with a pathetic wimper. So, with orb's luck...he "prearranged" a guest star for his last night's gig...and it turns out to be Hank Williams Jr! HA!
"Hank Williams didn't do it. Neither did Waylon or Willie. Not even Garth or Shania.
But the current breed of country superstars has started a new tradition of pulling pranks on the final night of a long tour. When Keith Urban performed "Kiss a Girl" at his tour finale in 2009, opening act Taylor Swift crashed the stage dressed as Ace Frehley of Kiss.
"That was the all-timer," Urban said last week. "Pranks are not my thing. I think a lot of the time the audience is just more confused as to what's going on - because it's usually such an inside joke."
In other words, don't expect any pranks from Urban when he wraps up his 2011 tour Saturday in Minneapolis.
...how is that orb? Pranks NOT your thing? After swifty pranked you on your tour in 2009 by her and her band dressed in full Kiss makeup and costume... DIDNT you then turn right around and then "prank" then opening act Sugarland...by walking out onstage with YOUR band while they played...in rather lame "mexican" wrestlers masks? As I've explained then...and as i do now...orb HAS NO imagination or creativity. And no doubt the only reason he is downplaying it now at the end of his tour...is plain...swifty HASNT pranked anyone onstage this tour...so orb has no idea...or notion of HOW to possibly prank anyone...since swifty hasnt shown him the witty or hilarious way of doing it! Swifty HAS brought on a boatload of "surprise guests" to her show...so naturally orb has...barely...begun to do that. Very weak orb...
9 KEITH URBAN $728,006 Oct. 8 Staples Center, Los Angeles (1/1) 13,408 (13,408)
...where orb drops to #9 with $728k from just one venue...the Staples Center. According to Billboard orb soldout the venue at 13k...the 20k max capacity Staples center...so orb's hacks KNEW orb's limitation I suppose in only setting up for 13k. Now, fansie's no doubt rejoicing in these rather overachieving numbers... these numbers ARE better than his average numbers of 2009...BUT dont fail to recall that this is ONLY ONE venue...and clearly a very rare sellout...and again, 13k for orb this summer...a VERY high number...so I have no problem giving orb this one little achievement. 13k IS STILL trailing the overall averages of all other country acts on tour right now. But again, his averages will still have him down to about 490k per show and about 8800 attendance that the far more consistant Pollstar numbers reveal. And not only will orb probably trail all...or most of the other country acts on tour this summer...most importantly of course, orb will no doubt trail HIS OWN numbers from 2 years ago. That reveals a personal decline orb will not be able to recover in the next year and probably another album.
Well, just read that orb had "special guest Issac Slade of the band The Fray" on tuesday at the Pepsi Center....FIRST I read of this...just a moment ago...apparently NOT MUCH COVERAGE on the innertubes! So, because I love to rub the orb's nose in swifty...and his oh so "plagiarizing" ways when it comes to swiping from her vastly more successful tour...let's review shall we. Back on August 24th, swifty brought out "special guest" Justin "leave it to" beiber. Since then she has had jason mraz, hot chelle rae...nicki minaj...hayley williams of Paramore...tim mcgraw...ronnie Dunn...andy grammer,..usher...T.I....and B.o.B. Well, orb first brought out HIS first "special musical guest"....ACTOR russell crowe...on sept 26 on his last gig in Canada. When swifty played 4 straight gigs in LA's Staples center she had a "special guest" every night. So of course orb HAD to have "special guests" for that show...for sure...and not one...but two! So John Fogerty and ACTOR jack black were wheeled out. So, let me review...orb has crowe...fogerty...jack black...and apparently Issac Slade of the band The Fray only a few days ago...but also apparently got NO press! Apparently, it's important to orb that you all know that not only swifty can attract a very "current" and "eclectic" array of "musical" performers! Now perhaps some reading this will think I'm belaboring this point. But I clearly feel THIS IS a core flaw in "performer" the orb. My new mantra of the moment...orb has NO imagination or creativity. He's a "follower." Swifty pranks...orb pranks...swifty brings out special guest after special guest...orb emulates...swifty deals with Target on "special edition" cds...orb deals with Target on a special edition cd...swifty appears on Ellen and tapes a comedy skit...orb goes on Ellen and tapes a comedy skit...swifty releases a "fragrance"...orb now has a "fragrance." So even if orb happens to luck out and gets de-attached from his career anchor...kidman...he will NOT be able to steer his ship back to successful straits. Because he doesnt have the wit or the originality to pull it off. Next month, swifty is already releasing a live dvd of her still as unfinished tour...will orb get one ready of his currently ending tour? I will have my eyes peaked...if that is even a proper phrase!?
Now maclen I understand what you're saying..but really he has had guests on his shows before TS was born! ((giggles)) I think TS learned from the old troopers that if you can add something to your repertoire it gives some spice to the same old!
Now as far as TS is concerned? She really needs to have people there.
Yes..she is a big attraction and they all flock to her open door. But I'm sorry she can't carry a tune and for twenty one? Well..in my day you were an adult not a pre teen!!!
Well, as I point out Hattie...orb DIDNT have a "special guest" on his tour for the first 3 months. And as I also pointed out, swift had her first on Aug 24 and then made it a very regular feature of her show. Now it's apparent orb has tried to make "special guests" a regular feature to his shows since Sept 26... and in my opinion NOT as impressive a troup of guests at that. There's no doubt orb takes his cues, PR wise...from swifty. I'm surely NOT saying that swifty "invented" the "special guest"...I'm simply pointing out that she introduced regular 'special guests" at the tail end of her tour...and suddenly orb has tried to introduce regular guests. NOw I realize fans of the orb like to point out that orb has a great live show... is a true "guitar hero"...and swifty cant sing...her audience are only teens and tweens. But I'm not speaking to the "quality" of the tours...I'm talking simply of their success. Swifty has 23k average audience per show...orb has 8876 per show. Orb would KILL for, and has attempted to attract swifty's audience of "teens and tweens"...all 3.7mil of them!
Yes maclen most would kill for what she is reaping. But like we have seen with Bieber it won't last. She is not going to continue to be so big. Kids(fans) are fickle..thank heavens..they grow up!!
If he were that big I would have to look at him as a Sinatra and that he's not! But I am also thankful he is not a TS! ((giggles)))
Yeah Hattie, I realize you are a fan of the orb's...and not a fan of swifty...but again...I'm not speaking to whatever "quality" his fans see in orb as opposed to swifty. I'm talking about the facts of their respective cd sales...tour grosses and attendance...press play and just all around promo habits. Sure, swifty may be "over" next year...but I doubt it. But what I do see is orb is on the way out... the way all things for him are going. I have my opinion of orb's music...but that is just my opinion. I just find it a manifestation of orb's clear decline that he ridiculously mimics so much of swifty's obviously clear PR "shtick"...when he so clearly does not have an answer to his declining cd sales and tour attendances. Another obvious tell in my hypothesis on this is today I read that last night at his Chicago gig...orb introduced "Chicago" native Richard Marx as his "special guest."
Keith Urban turns on the charm and the hits at Allstate
"Probably (though this night did get a cameo from frequent Urban collaborator, Chicago's own MOR-maven Richard Marx, who sang his "Don't Mean Nothing")."
...which has been swifty's current schtick...invite a "local' performer on her stage for the hometown crowd. Now, that is not to say that orb MAY not have had a few times invited a "local" onstage to perform at some time...I'm saying it is simply too obvious...what with the "regularity" of it NOW... that orb is doing it now simply because swifty is doing it...AND she gets ALOT of press play for it. And orb desperately wants that press play!
So, orb ends his tour with the same ol same ol'. Let go through a few choice quotes, shall we...
http://www.twincities.com/ci_19123715
Concert review: From Keith Urban, escapist joy for a mostly female crowd at Target Center
"As Keith Urban was about to take the Target Center stage Saturday night, the Beatles' classic "A Day in the Life" blared over the sound system, with the lights dimming in time to the lyric "I'd love to turn you on."
...so here we get to another flaw in orb's attempts at reviving his flagging career. So doesnt orb believe HE has as "iconic" number...well FOR orb...that he can play as he first appears onstage. I mean, I know the Beatles are great...but I wouldnt want the rest of my show be a complete comedown AFTER the Beatles! But that's just me...and clearly...NOT the orb!
"Urban, 43, seems most concerned about extracting pure escapist joy from his largely female audience by writing instantly graspable pop/rock songs and delivering them with infectious energy and a huge smile."
...well at least orb has "infectious energy! But that "instantly graspable" is just code for "shallow and superficial" And again, AT LEAST swifty HAS an excuse...what's orb's?
"with his band breaking into an impromptu cover of Def Leppard's "Photograph" and the near-capacity crowd of more than 13,000 cheering in the background. Later, he pulled a Bono-inspired move and used a portable spotlight to illuminate fans in the upper deck."
...and ANOTHER example of what I feel is orb simply diluting his own image by doing Def Leppard...now even reviewers are now beginning to point out that he's doing other performer's bit! And apparently 13k "near" capacity crowd is orb's max attendance...and must mean orb was not a sellout here as the Target Center in minneapolis is minimum 13k to 18.6 endstage and 20.5k center stage set up. So I'd say orb was shooting for 18,6k here! But quite NOT there...
"Musically speaking, Urban has never made "sounding country" his top priority, particularly in concert. Instead, he draws inspiration from big radio hits of the 1970s and '80s, writing songs that arrive with a whiff of familiarity that's more warmly nostalgic than coldly calculating. "The show-opening "Put You in a Song" felt like an old Bon Jovi rocker, the chugging bass of "I Told You So" brought to mind early Duran Duran and the Grammy-winning 2006 single "Stupid Boy" rolled on by like a less-stoned Tom Petty. The barn-burner "Long Hot Summer" is one of several songs he co-wrote with an actual pop-music relic, Richard Marx, with Urban able to bring out the best in the fluffy-haired schlock king."
...Ha! The 'fluffy-haired schlock king!?" I couldnt have described him better myself! Yes...that "pop-music relic! Again, the "diluting" continues. Well, Ive been pointing out orb's obvious derivative tendencies in his little pop ditties...and it's no surprise to read about them here once again. Yeah, orb gets compared to jon bon jovi alot. I can imagine possible orb new recruit fans having a discussion...hey, I heard a song I thought was pretty catchy and had a good beat...and the guy who did it is playing next week at the Target Center. Want to go check him out? I read he's alot like jon bon jovi! Hey, why dont we just go see Bon Jovi? Sounds good bro! Bon Jovi ROCKS! That's what is unfortunate for orb...in trying to associate himself to the sounds...the feel and the vibe of OTHER past performers...he doesnt seem to realize for some reason...if they want to hear Leppard-esque music...they can simply go to see Def Leppard in concert...if they want bon jovi-esque music they go and see Bon jovi....or Duran-esque music they go to see Duran Duran... if they want "tom petty and the heartbreakeres-esque music, they go see tom petty and the heartbreakers. All those act ARE STILL performing live. Could also be why orb's tour attendance is down. And so I see orb has a huge task coming up in the upcoming year...as he no doubt continues his "county fair and festival" tour...and probably yet another album. And if, as I suspect...he goes for that "classic rock" sound" on h is next album...again why settle for a simple sound alike when they can have the originals?
Yes maclen...I understand your reasoning. But I can't seriously compare a mature older male to a young teenie bopper.
I understand when you're comparing KU with JA..KC..BS...BP those guys. But you lose your crediblity with TS thrown in.
That's what I meant when I said if he had the numbers and the teenie boppers I would have to look at him as a Sinatra or an Elvis a Michael Jackson. Of course they are all deceased! ((giggles)))
TS and Bieber are in a different catagory as far as I am concerned. But that's just my thought.
See it really has nothing to do with me liking KU I'm not a fan. My kind of music is not what KU produces there are some songs I like but... I really love Pavarotti...Domingo...and we go to Mario Lanza...Catherine Grayson...Bobby Darin etc.
Don't mean to be verbose, maclen just trying to explain my reasoning. Being half a skeptic does not mean I can't be objective. :)
I think KU is realizing he has a core audience and they will be there for him no matter what he does. He isn't going to be a superstar- not a Bono or Springsteen but he is a premiere showman and is a really excellent entertainer and performer and there are ways he can drift from Country into Adult Contemporary quite easily. Who else is there in his age cohort who can be considered? McGraw can't record right now due to legal problems. Paisley is too Nashville. Bentley still has to shore up his Nashville base. Keith can move.
Nice to remember the wife at the last show- did we remind him of that?
Well, hattie that is where you begin to constantly lose me...you say you are not a "fan" of the orb. Yet when I criticize orb...you'll defend him..or try to explain him to me. You just describe yourself as "half a skeptic" I take as you being "anti kidman" and "pro orb." So naturally, I take you as an orb "fan." I describe myself as NOT a "skeptic"... and simply as a "cynic" because I was never a kidman fan or an orb fan. That's why I can mock them and criticize them unmercilessly. And it is the true "fansies" of orb who HATE swifty...and would rail against my comparisons between orb and swifty...well, back when THERE WERE fansies online. And I'm aware that they CRINGE at the MASSIVE success and media attention swifty receives compared to their hero orb. Yet, I am not comparing orb and swifty as songwriters...or as live performers or comparing the "quality" of her music to his. I am simply comparing the MASSIVE success of swift's cd sales to orb's lackluster cd sales...and swifty's MASSIVE tour attendance and grosses to orb's declining attendance and grosses. You seem to be comparing them as performers...recording artists or the "quality" of their fame. For you, orb is a mature older male" as opposed to swift who you regard as simply "a young teenie bopper." Yet as I explain, I'm simply comparing swift's cd sales and tour attendance and grosses to orb's. And swift completely swamps the orb's. Now that is TOTALLY objective...comparing their numbes. Anything else is NOT objective... it is personal opinion and preference.
maclen that's where we differ. Her stats are made up of the teenie boppers at her concerts right? Now those stats would be equal to a Bieber or Myley
KU's audience are mostly very mature women with some varities of others thrown in they make up his stats right? Now those stats would be equivalant to JA or BP I would assume.
Believe me I'm not trying to critize you in any way. I enjoy your comments and find a lot of interesting info. I'm just trying to clarify why I am confused.
Let me say this. Every time I try to explain what my relationship with KU is...people have a tendency not to believe it. I understand that? I do.
Who would expect a person that has been a friend be on a blog or a board. Well maclen you can ask Moosie about that she could tell you.
That's why I say I'm not a fan. In my day loyalty wasn't just a word. Doesn't matter who you are or what you've become a friend should stay just that. :)
Yeah, we do differ, Hattie. Your saying that I shouldnt compare a young country performer to a mature country performer because they are different in age. Or that you consider swifty NOT country... but pop...and I should only compare her to bieber and cyrus...and not to the orb. Yeah I disagree on that. Swift represents herself as country...and she is just fortunate enough to also represent herself to the "pop" crowd and sell her music. That's why orb tried to represent himself also to the pop crowd..and now he's trying to sell himself as "classic rock". He is losing fans...and customers...he needs to try and expand into something else where he can get his sales and attendance up. Now as to whether or not I believe, as you seem to imply...that you have been a friend of orbs...that may be true...but as I previously commented...it's nothing personal to you Hattie...but I simply do NOT believe ANYONE on the blogs who make that claim. It's just not provable..on an online blog so I will not acknowledge it. And realistically, Hattie..I dont know kidman...so I cant ask her...so she cant tell me whether you know orb or not. And I doubt even if I got her email or her text...she wouldnt even answer that! And what your also apparently saying is your just "saying" your not a fan...because of "loyalty" to orb? Is that what your saying? Again, back to the "I dont believe any commentors claim" ...I'm just not going to try and "analyze' every commentors comments of what exactly they're trying to express...other than what they are commenting. So, as the recent theme seems to be, we will just have to "agree to disagree" Hattie.
Well maclen that is why I say I'm not a fan. You disagree with me... I have no problem with that. I'm saying fans don't necessarily have to be loyal but friends should be.
I also still feel when you throw TS in the mix you skew your stats. That is my take on it.
Even if you take TS out of the mix you do prove your point...KU did not do as well has he did last year and last year was not as good as the year before. You can go all the way back to the great announcement of the on coming hook up to see the drastic decline in both attendance and quality.
And now the grande finale. So on to what? Oh yes the Opry...CMAS and then Voice?? In Oz?? Now that's interesting.
So maclen there you have it. I personally don't understand your great interest in someone that you are not a fan or friend of...but it seems you take your stats very seriously and I find that humorous. :D I thank you for the entertainment! ((giggles)))
Hatti said... but it seems you take your stats very seriously and I find that humorous. :D I thank you for the entertainment! ((giggles)))
Well, never one to doubt my own "credibility" Hattie...I certainly feel I add to my always self acknowleded speculation and analysis a notch above the usual debate with a smattering of the facts. It's rather obvious at this juncture in kidman's and orb's career...that is the one thing their fansies do not want to deal with...and that is reality. As kidman's film grosses a laughable $18k in only 10 theaters for a $1800 per screen in its opening weekend and the orb finishes a 60 gig tour that will surely gross less than his previous tour...and his current cd has certainly maxed out at an anemic 650k in sales...I surely feel it is this reality that has no doubt chased them all way from the "debate." And in all that while, the fansie's only offered their "opinion"....while I offered not only my simple opinion...but an added bonus of the reality. As to swifty, the reason I always keep comparing her to the orb is I knew how much it really ticked off the fansies....and I always found that entertaining!
So, apparently I didnt sift through orb's last gig on sat night as thoroughly as I could have...as I'm just now discovering a few facts I overlooked...
Keith Urban's extra-long, last-night-of-the-tour set list from Target Center
"On the final night of his Get Closer tour, Keith Urban played extra long at Target Center on Saturday. Ten minutes short of three hours and 32 songs — if you count the one he improvised about the alphabet near the end."
Notes from Chicago: Bruce Springsteen's 'Born to Run' concert September 22, 2009
"1. Springsteen spent nearly three hours leading his band through 28 songs at the "house that Michael Jordan built,"
... and I just got through today describing orb as a wannabe... "Springteen-lite"
"Here are the songs Urban played Saturday:"
".../Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way (Waylon Jennings, duet w Waylon via video)"
...aha...so orb DID have a special guest on his last show of the tour! So orb COULDNT get a guest to appear at the show...so he simply settled for a "video duet with Jennings...weak. And yes...I realize orb has been doing this on his tour...and he was singing along to an old "video" of jennings singing the song and not live with jennings...AND that just makes it even SADDER! This was all orb could muster on his last night. So, 4 months and 60 dates...and orb is done touring...meanwhile swifty is charging on into Nov...having begun her tour way back in Feb. While orb's WORLD tour consisted of dates in the US and Canada...and OZ...while swifty played in south korea...japan...philippines...hong kong...belgium...holland....norway...germany...italy...france...spain...the uk and ireland. So, wasnt it a no brainer orb was awarded the ACM Jim Reeves International Award just last year...
"The award wasn’t just a nicety. While country music was born and bred in the U.S.A., it’s had a bit of a rocky road in building audiences beyond American borders. Keith’s made a point of taking his music to other territories, leading host Lee Ann Womack to hail “the world domination of Keith Urban.” “This music is global,” Keith said, explaining his passion for exporting country. “We speak about the human condition. It’s why this music transcends all boundaries.” Not that it’s always been that way.Keith gave an effective, condensed history of the genre’s global outreach, using his homeland as an example. He recalled that his very first concert was a Johnny Cash show when he was a mere five years old, a concert that was, Keith said, “very impactful and left a huge impression on me.”
...yes IT IS a given country stars do little "international" touring... it seems... and I would most certainly say orb is it's most egregious offender in that category...so NATURALLY he gets an award for it! HA! And CERTAINLY NOT one characteristic orb will be emulating swifty in...I'm pretty sure. No, I sense orb will be struggling to get out another album the rest of the year and into next year. I've read from a few commenters orb claims it's time for "something new." Well, my sense also says that he has been cultivating his "new sound"...and that is what he's basically been doing all summer on tour..."classic rock." And I say, if it does turn out to be true...and as I maintain...this is only speculation....he will fall far short of that goal...and will simply come up with Get closer part 2...or more mockingly...he will try to get away with calling it..."Get Back!"
(((giggles)) Ok maclen...Get Back...Don't Go Back..You Can Never Go Back..I Got Ya Back!!! What ever will be..who knows.
I would like the something different to be the real sound of country. His folk sound his country!!
Have you heard KU sing country? I'm sure his singing with Jennings live or not live is really good. He does it very well.
So I am hoping that it the something different. His old good stuff without the chains of someone else telling him what to do. That would be refreshing!!
Hey you never know. But as I was saying maclen. What is with this Voice. I never watched it. I don't care for that kind of stuff. Strictly a mystery buff !! :)
What could this do for his career or do you think he is scouting for his label??
The Voice is like a competition show where an artist will work with a number of people on their style, songs, presentation and then they are put in competition with others.
In a lot of ways this is brilliant for Keith to do this back in the homeland. Its a weekly show and he will be in living rooms week after week people get to "know" people and this can only be good for Keith in Oz where he is enigma. He has always wanted to be Nicole Kidman famous in his homeland and he is not. The time commitment is interesting too how many weeks and months will he be out of the American loop? Will it hurt him or harm him.
The buzz this AM is about the dedication to Kidman at the end of Without You- "I love you Nicole baby" much different from the baby gurl and "Nic" references from the past. It seemed kind of an afterthought and sad. I think its time to see some pictures. The whispers are getting deafening.
Well Hattie, that is just my sense. He may very well simply go back to a more traditional country sound. But my sense is that he "cultivated" this pop/classic rock association this summer for a purpose. And that was for his next cd. Yeah, this Voice is another rather generic reality performing and singing or dancing shows that give down and out celebs another shot at 15 minutes of fame. I dont watch them. And I am dubious that orb is considering it. And if it turns out he is actually in "talks" to be on...in the end he will not do it. I simply do not believe he has that freedom. For all the talk kidman has given about "sacrificing" for the family...it is actually orb who bends over backwards to accommodate kidman. Orb will not decide that he would spend weeks or months on end shooting a tv show in Oz so that kidman would be the one to accommodate orb's career. Now, if it turns out he and kidman ARE having problems, as you say, in their marriage and in fact an announcement of that is coming soon...now this story DOES make sense. This would be exactly what orb would want to do...to get out of the US and the media buzz that it would most assuredly provoke. But again, if at all....that is yet to revealed.
Tara.. I believe the end of the show was the end to alot of things. But we will see. I don't believe you are going to see anymore family walks through parking lots...Whole Food stores...Starbucks or film set pics.
So we will see but that is my take on it. :)
As far as Voice being his thing to rival a Moosie Girl in Oz?? Please don't wish that on him. Most of the populace hate her there! ((giggles)))
I think people would like to see him create that Better Life and Ranch music with maybe even a little more country fun. He will never be an AJ but he can certainly beat KC anyday of the week. To me he is just a cabanna boy no matter what he puts to music.
I think the Voice thing maybe the way the split comes out. He will go back home for a few months and let her and her mgr work behind the scenes to bring out the best tear jerker you have ever heard in your life!! But it's not going to work she had her day with TC and she blew it. So she is really just a floundering has been at this point.
OH!! there I go again giving myself those warm fuzzies! ((giggles)))
When Blake was on The Voice, he brought his contestants into his personal life with Miranda. As the show came to an end, Dia, his finalist, grew very close to both Blake and Miranda, and Blake even said he considered Dia family from that moment on. Will a contestant be able to get that close to both Keith and Nic?
(((giggles)))) Oh blue sky I'm sorry but that will never happen. Moosie girl hasn't befriended KU why would she open her personal space to anyone else!!
Unless this person cleans and cooks she/he don't have a chance! :D
And yes the dedication is on you tube for anyone to see.
I think Maclen may be on to something about Kidman not wanting to have anyone invade her space she has a persona that she has taken decades to establish TV breaks down those barriers. I don't see Kidman moving down under for her husband hell she couldn't even hop a plane to Chicago to see his final shows.
Tara she don't give a tinker's d@mn about his career. He sang his LHS and she was in the audience the first time she heard it. The second time she was no where to be seen. Why?? B/c it's not at all about her and no one could ever imagine it could be about her. So she picked herself up and walked out.
That tells you she has nothing to do with HIS career. He is paid to promote her for her career.
And she has the same persona when dealing with KU as with any stranger or person that works for her. They are there to serve.
Tara said... "I think Maclen may be on to something about Kidman not wanting to have anyone invade her space she has a persona that she has taken decades to establish TV breaks down those barriers."
Well, that is one hypothesis, of course Tara. But it does occur to me also that it could actually be the case that IT IS kidman who may want to escape to OZ. If you take into account the recent stories of the broadway play and "Danish Girl" basically being shelved...and this recent disappearance by kidman... may simply be a sign she has no more decent offers for roles. So, if it does turn out orb signs onto this oz show...AND kidman also travels to Oz...with no established movie role during that time in Oz...that may well be the case.
So, as I was purusing the inntertubes...came upon this article...

...and here are the latest few tweets by the (NOT) orb...at his Twitter account...

...tweets OBVIOUSLY NOT from orb himself....it's a pity isnt it...that the orb has NO personality!
Keith said in an interview he doesn't twitter- so you know his staff does it.
Kidman is in the throws of Tall Poppy syndrom down under. She isn't as loved as she once was. I don't think she really likes it there anymore. No I meant she put out this image of herself that keeps her away from mingling with the common folk. According to some it freaks her out that Keith is so open with his fans and that if she does shake hands or encounters people it disturbs her.Because he has a sense of entitlement. Mr. Cruise had her pretty isolated. Mr Urban realizes he has to be a part of his fan base.
Shelton is notorious for having very funny tweets. This shows the human side to all of them and proves they want to stay connected with their fans by sharing personal stories from their personal lives. Could you ever imagine Urban actually tweeting something and have it be something funny about his wife?
It is all about image for them. From the business-only tweets to having the fans vote on his cover to his album, and then pull the rug right out from underneath them, is it any wonder Urban's fan base is decreasing?
blue sky, Kidman has always struck me as a humorless woman, which is probably why she does so poorly at comedy. She acts in comedies in a way that robs them of any humor. Comedy requires a light touch and a perspective that she simply does not have.
Second, on the off chance that she does show some humor in private, I don't think Keith is allowed to mention that. People might see her in a less-imposing light.
And we can't have that! His BBP must be venerated at all times.
It is just that even remotely detached and stand off-ish attitude they suffer from where any emotional revealing is like the black plague to them. They dont reveal much...and what they do is clearly calculated and canned PR for their films or cds. That is why kidman is so lousy at tv show interviews. She is so awkward because she's absolutely terrifed she MAY reveal something she fears getting out there. So when they do reveal anything even remotely personal it simply comes off as phoney and calculated because IT IS revealed while they are either selling a film or orb is shilling his cd.
Chart News For October 19, 2011: Scotty & Lauren Make Country History!
...so as was clearly obvious last week...
Lady Anthebellum Own The Night 47,000 653,000
"Keith Urban returns to the Top 200 charts with Get Closer and has now sold 650,000 copies of the album with #1 hits “Without You” and “Long Hot Summer.”
...Lady Ant's 5 week old newly released cd has now sold MORE cds than orb's 44 week cd! Lady ant's cd now at 653k cds sold to orb's 650k cds...again that's one month and one week for lady ant...and 11 months for orb! That is just MIND BOGGLING in orb's pathetic sales. So, with now 2 #1 hits...and this is ALL orb can sell of his cd?
Oh brother...Well since she really can't act I guess the only time she is funny is when she is trying to be tragic. Now RH was a very dramatic film. It was heart wrenching but when she tried to pull it off I found myself wanting to laugh!! Terrible!! And that was just the trailers. :D
Now Trespass the same thing you found yourself watching this person strain at the drama of the plot and you want to laugh!!
Awfulstralia was the worst!! You couldn't laugh where you should and you laughed where you shouldn't b/c her face and her acting was absolutely atrocious!!!
That's why Baz openly in public stated he would never work with her again!! He said it publicly so she couldn't hound him!!! What a jerk!! ((giggles))))
No Tara...There are no pics. All those tweets and no pics. None at the theatre or WF or Starbucks.
And the columnist is a member of the actors guild. Now could be he is looking for a film?? To do a favor for Moosie girl or her mgr? Well it would be a favor that could pay off.
I just don't believe anything that doesn't have a pic to it. And if you read the article and see how their stuck at the end of a sentence and paragraph it is like it was just dropped there.
This isn't the first time we have had this bunk. Won't be the last. ;)
Keith Urban Debuts Three Commercials for New Fragrance
"Three Axe Body Spray-style commercials have been created to promote Eau de Urban. There is a common thread in each 30-second spot, and it’s the idea that if you wear Phoenix, you will get the girl and your life will improve. There’s a lot of power in a cologne bottle."
Now I recognized these three 30 sec commercials. Back on Oct 4th when it was announced by People.com that they were "partnering" with the orb for a commercial contest for fan submitted commercials where the winner would win a prize I recalled looking into this contest where I found the entry page for this contest at orb's monkeyland site...
http://www.keithurban.net/phoenix_fans.html
...where I had wanted to keep a tab on HOW MANY submitted commercials would be entered to the orbs contest. Now if you click on the "Submissions Will Be Posted Here" link on the orb's page above...you will then be taken to the "PHOENIX by keith urban" youtube page. Well back on Oct 4th when the contest was first announced, there were 3 posted commercials...YES...the same three commercials evidently released today. They were "Date Night" "Magic Bottle" and "Phone Call"...all posted on Oct 4th. Of course I assumed they were simply 3 already fan submitted commercials for the contest...since this was the page the entries would be posted. But of course they have now been released...so they obvuiosly are NOT fan made commercial entries! Well, it has now been 15 days, 2 weeks... since this contest was announced...AND it seems there has been NO fan made commericals submitted as yet to the youtube channel. Is it simply that they are still being reviewed by People.com...and simply not yet posted? Or have there NOT been as yet any entries by orb's fansies? Well, this contest is set to end on Nov 11...in 3 more weeks. There will be one grand prize winner announced...and nine runners up. It would surely be an embarrassment if NOT enough entries are submitted to simply give out the initial prizes! Keep and eye on that youtube commercial entry page!
maclen...That certainly would tell a story now wouldn't it. I can see people being shy about doing a video starring themselves. But out of all KU's fan base there should be ten that are hams. :D
Well Hattie...that remains to be seen. This would certainly be a barometer of the level of enthusiasm among the orb's fansie's, wouldnt it? Looking at the 8 comments so far on that submission's page on youtube...there is one comment who is confused of just what those 3 commercials are...
"those 3 that i see up there, whats up with those? are those entrys? im confused, they look so professionally done and the bottom 2 are the same guy?"
...three other comments just say the commercials are great, hiliarious and another "loves the one of the young man!"...and only one comment claims to be working on a commercial. Now, the last comment is confusing....
"I keep looking for other commercials, the are growing day by day, and some of them look really fun! This was a great opportunity you provided for us, and I know my crew and myself had a ton of fun. Thank you!!!!
...so, is this commenter "seeing other commericals that look fun?"...or are they simply referring to the 3 on this page which are NOT clearly fan submitted entries! So again, just how many submissions are sent in will have to wait til the end of the contest. Just HOW excited ARE the orb fansie's over the "aroma of orb!"
So, quite pathetically...here's orb's feeble attempt at giving swifty a "run for her money" on "special surprise guests" in the last few weeks of his tour...
"CAPITOL NASHVILLE artist KEITH URBAN concluded his “GET CLOSER 2011 WORLD TOUR” this past SATURDAY (10/15) in MINNEAPOLIS, MN, with special guest RCA NASHVILLE artist JAKE OWEN. KEITH kicked off the last week of the tour in L.A., and brought JOHN FOGERTY on stage to perform “Proud MARY,” which was followed by a collaboration with actor JACK BLACK on the song “Devil Went Down To GEORGIA.” While KEITH performed in DENVER, CO he brought THE FRAY’s lead singer ISAAC SLADE onstage to perform the band’s song “How To Save A Life.” In MILWAUKEE, CAPITOL NASHVILLE artist ERIC CHURCH joined KEITH and performed his song “SPRINGSTEEN.” KEITH also had RICHARD MARX join him in CHICAGO, IL for a rendition of “Don’t Need Nothing” and “Better Life.”
...so let's take a head to head look at these "special guests...
orb
1. Russell crowe 2. Jake owen 3. John fogerty 4. Jack Black 5. Issac slade 6. Eric Church 7. Richard marx
...lets see...two "actors"...a bff of kidman and a past costar of kidman's...a classic rock icon...owen SHOULDNT even be included as a "special guest"...he was orb's opening act at EVERY US show...a country performer...and a 80's 'fluffy-haired schlock king hasbeen! Now swifty...
swift
1. Justin bieber 2. Jason Mraz 3. Hot Chelle rae 4. Nikki minaj 5. Haley williams 6. Tim mcgraw 7. Ronnie dunn 8. Andy grammer 9. Usher 10. T.I. 11. B.O.B
...and as I once described it...a very "eclectic" mix of country, pop, alternative, hip hop, R&B, Punk, raggae, soul and rap. Again, the comparison is stark...and quite obvious. So, it's swifty-1, orb-0....
Well maclen.. your above conclusion with KU and TS are to me not viable. If I had my choice (I don't go to concerts..don't care for the atmosphere) I would have to choose KU's.
I for one am not into hip hop or rap or anything like that. And I would much rather hear and see John Fogerty than Tim Mcgraw. The only one that I would really like to see is Toby Keith!!! ((giggles)))
Hatti, I believe my conclusion is VERY viable! My conclusion is that the orb added a string of "special guests" at the tail end of his tour...in COMPLETE reaction to swifty adding a string of very high profile "special guests" to her shows...and NOT as high profile or news worthy guests at that. My conclusion WAS NOT that you prefer Fogerty to McGraw!
Yes maclen...I understand what you proclaim. I am saying a mature person that is not into..rap..hip hop..and the other genres wouldn't go to TS's concerts. So she would still have a very different audience buying tickets to see her.
KU on the other hand brought in people that mature audiences would like to see. So they bought tickets to see him.
Now...KC..BP..JA..GS..all the others would have the same type of guests that KU has. So that would be where the comparison comes in.
I know you have your own opinion and it is your stats but to me that makes more sense.
And as I have said before (forgive me for being redundant) but KU has had guests since before TS was born. So who is copying whom?? ((giggles)))
I don't think he added people because Tay Tay did. Richard Marx lives in Chicago- he and his family usually attend Keith's shows. The relationship with Fogerty goes back to the 2005 Crossroads they did then they also worked on the Musicares tribute to Neil Young. He has reverance for Fogerty. Jack Black is also a friend who he met while Kidman was filming Margot at the wedding. Eric Church has said that he loves Keith Urban and Keith has said kind things about him. It wasn't about causing a scene it was about bringing some friends around to play. I don't think the man likes Tay Tay all that much so I don't think he gives a rats ass about her.
Yeah, I think I mentioned this before...swifty didnt INVENT the "special guest"...or for that matter did orb. What I am pointing out is that swifty introduced her first "special guest" on August 23 at the staples center. She then proceeded to having a "special guest" for the next 3 shows as well in LA. Orb had his first "special guest" on Sept. 27 in Vancouver. When orb himself played the Staples center in LA on Oct 8...he had not one...but two "special guests"... no doubt causing the even very orb friendly theboot.com to make a similar correlation...
"Taylor Swift isn't the only country superstar inviting unlikely duet partners onstage during their live shows. Over the weekend, actor Jack Black joined Keith Urban for an animated cover of Charlie Daniels' 1971 chart-topping country classic, 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia,'
...and of course they made that correlation because swifty was already getting huge media coverage with her "special guests" for the entire previous month. And it was also part of swifty's theme to have a "special guest" from a city she was playing.
"You've seen the videos where Eric Church joined Keith Urban onstage at Urban's Milwaukee show last week when they sang Church's "Springsteen"? I just got off the phone with Church, and he told me how he ended up on that stage."..." So he sent me a text one day and said, 'Hey if you get any free time on this tour, I'd love you to come play a song off Chief [Church's latest album], so check the schedule.' And then I texted him and said, 'Let's do Milwaukee."..."But since Urban had told him he knew and loved Church's entire album, how did they decide on "Springsteen"? I might have gone with "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On." But Church just told me, "I'm not sure. You'd have to ask Keith."
...HA! So... orb "invites" church to come play a song off of "Chief"...AND church IS NOT sure how they ended up playing "Springsteen?" Church would have gone with "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On."...BUT they ended up doing "Springsteen"...oh I WONDER WHY? Because orb HAS AN AGENDA on this tour...he wants seriously to be "springsteen-lite! Not only is orb rather unoriginal or uncreative...he's obviously a opportunistic hack...and willing to disregard church's song preference for the show...for his own pretty sorry image re-imagining!
HA! BEFORE I respond Hattie...I should at least give you an opportunity to RE-READ my comment! I'll even give you a little hint...go to the ARTICLE addy I posted...
Church would have gone with "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On."...BUT they ended up doing "Springsteen"
Jesus, what is it with you? maclen, go back and re-read Alison Bonaguro's article. It's not Church listing those songs as preferred titles, it's Bonaguro.
And, FWIW, it's Keith's tour, Keith's gig, and Keith's invitation. He sets the playlist. If Church is uncomfortable with the choices, all he has to do is decline. Funny how we don't hear Church whining about the gig. If you re-read the last quote, you'll find Church fairly impressed with the man's skills.
OFFSTAGE: Behind Eric Church's Keith Urban Cameo (CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)
You've seen the videos where Eric Church joined Keith Urban onstage at Urban's Milwaukee show last week when they sang Church's "Springsteen"? I just got off the phone with Church, and he told me how he ended up on that stage. "Keith is one of the guys I have an enormous amount of respect for -- for the kind artist he is," he told me. "And we'd been talking back and forth, and he had told me how much he loved the record. And my understanding was that Keith and his band were sound checking with some songs on my record from time to time. So he sent me a text one day and said, 'Hey if you get any free time on this tour, I'd love you to come play a song off Chief [Church's latest album], so check the schedule.' And then I texted him and said, 'Let's do Milwaukee.' Then I just showed up at their sound check, we did it one time, then we wanted to save it for the show. It was really special, and he played a hell of a guitar solo on it, one that only Keith Urban can do." He described the performance as stellar and one of the most special nights of his career. But since Urban had told him he knew and loved Church's entire album, how did they decide on "Springsteen"? I might have gone with "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On." But Church just told me, "I'm not sure. You'd have to ask Keith. We did play a little of 'Country Music Jesus' when we were sound checking. He's so damn good, he could pull off any of them."
Im sorry maclen...the way it read I thought you had a friend. Well that's ok if you did I would believe you! It's not far fetched as far as I'm concerned. ((giggles)))
A440 said... Church would have gone with "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On."...BUT they ended up doing "Springsteen"
"Jesus, what is it with you? maclen, go back and re-read Alison Bonaguro's article. It's not Church listing those songs as preferred titles, it's Bonaguro."
What is with you A440? Ive never left ANY doubt that I clearly think orb is an opportunistic hack...a mediocre songwriter...a bland and dull "pop tart" wannabe... who is unimaginative and uncreative. If you want to begin a very acrimonious exchange over my VERY WELL KNOWN opinions of orb...which I've had plenty of with other hyperventilating orb fansies who cant take my criticizing of their idol...then continue...but take note I will participate only until your whining starts to bore me..to which then I will simply return to my pointing out orb's rather obvious flaws. Now, to the article and the phone interview with church...REGARDLESS of whether it was Bonaguro or Church who may have preferred "Like Jesus Does" or "Over When It's Over" or "Keep On."... it is Church who answers when asked "how did they decide on "Springsteen"?...quote..." "I'm not sure. You'd have to ask Keith." Now you may be fine with that, A440...I'M NOT. I maintain it supports my theory that orb is simply trying to re imagine his image...and he clearly asked Church to perform with him so they could perform "Springsteen" on stage. Church even reaffirms my point on that when he specifically points out at the very end of the phone interview..."We did play a little of 'Country Music Jesus' when we were sound checking." And again, during the "sound check" they played a little 'Country Music Jesus'...but then at the show...they play, "Springsteen"....AND Church has NO IDEA why...he says to "you'd have to ask keith" So, I say orb mandated he and church do "springsteen"...because as I maintain...orb had an agenda. And apparently, orb didnt give church an answer as to why. My thought is orb should have simply done the cover of the song...and not bring in church as a visual "prop"... to help validate orb's "rock wannabe" desires. But swifty had "special guests"...so orb wanted "special guests. Now, I decide what quotes I want to highlight to make my points...if you dont like them fine...I provided the link to the article... I expect you to go to that webpage and read the article yourselves. But Im not going to quote the lovey dovey quotes that "orb lurves church" or "church lurves the orb" simply because some fansie wants ME to validate their love for the orb.
5 KEITH URBAN $952,894 Oct. 13-15 Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wis. (1/0) Target Center, Minneapolis, Minn. (1/0) 16,987 (21,192)
...so orb is at #5...grossing $952,894 in two shows...for an average of $476,447 avg gross per show... of the 2 shows, neither one were sellouts...orb sold 16,987 tickets out of a total of 21,192 tickets available...for a 8,096 average attendance per show. That's a total of 4,205 tickets that went unsold...which is 2,102 unsold tickets per show. So let me see, backtracking the Hot Tours from Billboard that Ive posted...it's been about 5 of them going back to August 26...Billboard reports that of the 16 shows they've reported grosses and attendance on...orb sold out only 5 of those venues...with the remaining 14 shows NOT sellouts. That's only a 26% sellout rate! I imagine orb will not want to look at the final numbers on this tour! But I know I will!
Aug 19 17. (New) Keith Urban; $440,658; $54.57. -8075 avg tix

Oct 21 12. (14) Keith Urban; $494,445; $55.32- 8,937
...so, orb inched up another $5,360 in overall total gross...and rises 22 cents in avg ticket prices... and is up 66 extra people at his shows. So, orb is OH SO close to that $500k per show gross and 9000 per show attendance I wondered if he would be able to reach on this tour! The only question...with orb's tour having ended almost a week ago...will this be orb's last appearance on the Pollstar weekly grosses...or will he once again show up on next week's Pollstar list? And then the question becomes...what will orb have achieved...IF he manages to reach my little goal posts? What he will have achieved is....he will have grossed $212,078 LESS per show...which is $12.7mil LESS overall than in 2009. He will have sold 135,278 LESS tickets this tour than he did in 2009. So here are the rough comparsons...
2009 $712,078 avg per show gross
2011 $500,000 avg estimated per show gross
2009 11,225 avg tickets per show
2011 9000 avg estimated tickets per show
2009 675,278 total tickets sold
2009 540,000 total estimated tickets sold
...of course the final numbers are dependent of what Pollstar's final gross talley will be. But based on previous years mid to final tour numbers show...they will NOT be too far off these numbers. Not great to be orb right now...taken also with his weak cd sales...which Ive very thoroughly documented here...orb needs a BIG CHANGE to keep these stats from CONTINUING to head south!
Hey, hoosier! Glad I could coax you back onto the talk back machine! I lift my cup of java in toast to you....Dont make yourself SO scarce...this place is like your favorite little neighborhood cafe...which only OCCASIONALLY drifts into barroom brawls!
Yes...but I do much prefer a cool little cafe, Hatti! Though deep down I guess my preference would actually be a sort of skeptics and cynic "Algonquin Round Table!"
hoosierlady said... "No, No, Maclen I was going for another cup of Java and I realized, Razors pain me. Not poisons, that's from a stanza above. Anyhoo. . "Men don't make passes, at women in glasses" is another Parkerism-to make up for the slip-o-brain. H
Yes, very interesting bird...this Dorothy Parker, hoosier! I FIrst learned of the Algonquin Round Table as a kid after getting hooked on the Marx Brothers movies...and I first read about it in Harpo's auto biography. Now of course...with my most cynical nature...I am MORE tempted by Groucho's "I won't belong to any organization that would have me as a member." But it is a deep down wish though!
Well, with orb's tour now over...and his cd now selling like ...well...orb's cd...not much news being generated. So I suppose this would be a chance to catch up on the orb's "man scent" commercial contest. With tommorow marking exactly 3 weeks since that contest was announced...it seems there are still NO fan entries as of yet...
http://www.youtube.com/PhoenixByKeithUrban
...and of the few comments...all 12 of them...seems a mixture of "love em"...a couple of "orb should be in them"...one relaying confusion over whether the 3 posted vids are from fansie's or not...one by "PhoenixByKeithUrban" 4 days ago commenting, "Can't wait to see all the commercials you guys come up with!'... one comment pointing out, "The "date night" one would be great if that concept wasn't just done for a gum commercial." Now, there is to be one grand prize winner chosen and 9 runners up... and in the first 3 weeks of this contest...no fansie's videos have been posted. It will be interesting to note just HOW MANY will be posted in the just short of 3 more weeks this contest is due to end. As I commented before...would be a total embarrassment for the launch of orb's "man scent" if it generated such unenthusiastic interest from his own fansies!
Well, hoosier...I kind of have the feeling I will be the last "cynic" standing on this blog. It seems the most of the skeptics have simply lost interest in orb, the musician and performer...and the few remaining skeptics are simply holding out hope that orb can get free of kidman's clutches...and return to his former fabu self...if that even ever existed in the first place! But again, it is THEIR cherished memory of orb that they are holding onto...while I do not see much difference in orb's music of today...and the stuff he put out pre 2005. But again that's my opinion which I WILL express while the urge still possesses me. So let the "round table" continue...
...well, only a day after I pointed out that it will be 3 weeks today since orb AND People.com announced the orb's "man scent" commercial contest and as yet there are NO fan submitted commercials posted on the official youtube channel...
http://www.youtube.com/PhoenixByKeithUrban
...so it seems People.com have posted the announcement again on the 20th and has popped online in a recent news search.
"We know you’re already excited about Keith Urban‘s first men’s fragrance, Phoenix, but can you prove just how big of a fan you really are? People.com is teaming up with the singer to find an extra-creative country-lover — one to create Urban’s first Phoenix commercial."
...the new announcement makes a pitiful plea to orb's fansies...
"Keith Urban needs your help: he has a new cologne, Phoenix, but no commercial to promote the scent." So we’ve teamed up with the country superstar, and we’re asking fans to make their own commercials — with the chance to win some fabulous prizes."
Of course, there ARE three commercials posted on the submit page that were announced in an innertubes story last week...the 3 posted no doubt by People.com...so IT'S NOT true orb HAS NO commercials for his "man scent." So this new pitiful plea NO DOUBT is in reaction to NO fansie submitted commercials! I suppose the grand prize of "tickets and airfare to an Urban concert in 2012, plus a Phoenix gift pack including cologne, aftershave, body wash and a wristwatch" is JUST NOT enticing enough even to orb fansies!
New Ticket Sales Date for Keith Urban's Hall of Fame Fundraiser
...so the annuouncent came out officially a few weeks ago that the 3rd "BENEFIT FOR ORB" concert would take place on Jan 18, 2012. I of course SAW instantly the significance of this new date. The first "BENEFIT FOR ORB" took place on Oct 13, 2009, AND the CMA awards took place on Nov 11, 2009...only 3 weeks and 8 days AFTER the "BENEFIT FOR ORB." The 2nd benefit show took place on Oct 5th 2010 and that year the CMA awards were held on Nov 10, 2010...5 weeks 1 day later. Of course at the time I commented on the LONGER space in between the benefit and the CMAs was no doubt in response to orb NOT getting "Entertainer" in 2009...so in 2010 he tried a LONGER time between the two events to give voters a longer time span AND more time to vote for orb for "Entertainer"...well it DIDNT work....either years! So now, the "BENEFIT FOR ORB" has been moved to Jan 18, 2012...though this time back to only 3 weeks and 4 days BEFORE the Grammy Awards being held on Feb 12, 2012. Of course, I figured the move to 3 weeks before the Grammys is in response to the new changes in the Grammy's categories. There is NO longer a "Country Male" category...which the fortunate orb WAS usually the favorite to win...and he did last year...while he WAS NOT the winner of the CMA "ENTERTAINER" the previous 2 years. So I figure orb is using probably the ONLY PR stunt he has left...this "BENEFIT FOR ORB"... that he believes can help him in his obvious "dryspell" of awards recognition. And with the changes in the Grammys country categories...there will now ONLY be " Best Country Solo Performance", "Best Country Duo/Group Performance", "Best Country Song" and "Best Country Album"...orb is surely worried his Grammy streak...and his major awards... is OVER!
It was a dumb idea to make a fan based video for the scent.
and I do think he will still get Grammys- the thing that sucks about the whole thing is that many many artist in smaller genres and artist who aren't commercial will no longer be recognized by the Grammys.
Tara said... "It was a dumb idea to make a fan based video for the scent. and I do think he will still get Grammys- ..."
Yeah, it will remain to be seen IF orb can win another grammy. I simply dont see how it's as likely this upcoming year with these changes. I see orb as being treated very generously by the Grammys the past few years especially. Consider as an indication...orb's first Grammy win was in 2006 for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance",,,in 2007 ord did not receive a Grammy....in 2008 orb again recieved a Grammy for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance." Then the cycle repeats again...and orb DID NOT get a Grammy in 2009. But 2009 was a very TELLING Grammy show. That was the year of the ""chris brown beats down rhianna." And brown's obvious no show at that night's telecast left the show with a few holes in performances...and so in steps up orb who volunteers to stand in on a couple of the nights performances. Now, sure orb MAY have just been really nice to help out the show...BUT it sure does help explain in my mind WHY orb would then go on to win Grammys the NEXT 2 years in a row...in 2010 and 2011. Oh, and by the way both of those wins were ALSO for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance." So, all 4 of orb's Grammys have been for the exact same category..."Vocal Performance"...nothing for song...or record...or album...etc. Surely in my mind THAT is the exact definition of an "obligatory" award. An award category simply "penciled" in for orb from the Grammy organization in gratitude for orb's "help" on the 2009 telecast. And surely, with the new changes...orb will be going head to head...NOT in the rather minimal category of "Male Vocal"...but against EVERY other country act...male OR female...in basically ONLY 3 categories..."Solo Performance"..."Best Song" and "Best Album"...and at THOSE odds I'm not even sure orb will manage a nomination! But we shall have to wait and see.
Hatti said... maclen...I'm sure KU has known for along time that he is not the top contender in much. It's been like this for a long time now. So maybe he is just going along with what he wants to do rather than what we think he is doing!!
But I dont see orb with just going along with what he wants to do, Hatti. I still see orb as hustling to remain relevant. His Benefit for him was to try and get the CMA "Entertainer"...and now he's positoned it for a shot at the Grammys...for the aformentioned reasons. Orb CLEARLY sees the the decline in his career as I obviously do...and he is trying to adjust and make PR corrections. His abandoning of kidman basically half way through his tour is a sure indication. He blew his career with his rather inane choices...I gather he will continue to blow it with continued inane choices.
I hope he gets a birthday present and is asked to join the Opry I think this is something overdue and I do think he plays there several times a year others like Dierks and Brad are long time members its time. If it doesn't happen this year I can't see it happening at all.
Well, not having given much thought to this whole Opry issue...again my initial thought being that orb HAS NOT as satisfactorily represented Country as perhaps the Opry org would believe merits an invite? As I mentioned on the E! thread...orb DID represent "classic rock" over country by a 5 to 2 ratio in his recent summer tour. Another point brought up is the prerequisite appearances on the Opry stage. As to your comments hoosier...I havent exactly made the proper study of this...but perhaps your right...the older establishment of the Opry MAY look far more kindly of alcoholism than on drug addiction. Someone in the know on that point may correct that...and may say if that is a non issue.
Tara...I really don't think he will be asked b/c he is Aussie. I don't think much of the good ole boy establishment.
If it wasn't for people like KU the genre would be what it use to be...old and boring!! He gave it some life and lot's of young ones followed suit. But he can bend over backwards and whistle Dixie till the cows come home and he will still be an outsider.
I don't think much of BS he is a divorced drunk that married a pretty nice person. I don't think it will last but maybe I'm wrong.
Yet he got in. So that tells you right there you gotta be part of the South and that don't mean South Queensland!! ((giggles)))
I was looking over the people who are not in the Opry George Strait, Chesney, Mcgraw, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Tanya Tucker, Waylon, David Allen Coe etc With the exception of Strait all of them have some kind of scandal in their lives-
Isn't Hank Willam Sr in the Opry? George Jones find your home Jones? Is Toby Keith one of the members?
I'm asking b/c I have an oversion towards being a member of anything that a group of people have to vote. So I really don't take much interest.
Hank Sr was a drunk and died real young left his kids before he even knew them.
George Jones father of country music was absent more times b/c he drank himself to the show and lost his way.
Toby Keith should be in the Opry before anyone else. He is more stand up American than anyone I know and he don't give two hoots about the establishment I bet you my last penny his is not a member!!

So, did Ellen once again say orb was "her most favorite person in the whole world!"
So, there's this...
http://www.cmt.com/news/news-in-brief/1672333/keith-urban-plans-all-for-the-hall-concert.jhtml
Keith Urban Plans All for the Hall Concert
HA!
OMG!!!! Now I have seen everything. I can't believe this. OK I am all askew!! :D
Well you know times are tough so a guys gotta do what what a guys gotta do!!!! (((giggles))))
It was moved because Vince Gill wasn't available to play the show in October as he is on tour. Keith didn't want to do the show without Vince. Keith said it every time he was asked about the show. Including when I asked him about the show in June but lets not let facts stand in the way of you slanting a story your way.
Yes 123 that's true. He has the utmost respect for VG!!
haha, cute video. and i'm not so sure nick wouldn't be jealous either because ellen has always been a "real" woman no matter what her preference is.
The faux commercial Ellen showed on the show and the outtakes are hilarious. It shows what good friends they are.
Just because they "wash their laundry in private now...by no way means it gets any cleaner!" HA!
...post script...
...as to orb's little "foray" into "comedy skit-dom"...his appearance on Ellen.
I don't know how well the "commercial" went over because this morning on my local Country radio station they were speculating on whether or not Keith really cared about the sales of the toilet water
since Ellen is controversial and the gag was a send up on his image.
I saw the interview I think we can all breath a sign of relief and say he is still on the Kidman payroll. I will venture to say that baby number 3 is probably in negotiations.
I thought it was funny and I think that Ellen has been pretty good to Keith over the years.
Still sucks about the new single.
The cd sales "stock" numbers are back...
http://www.roughstock.com/blog/chart-news-for-october-12-2011-scotty-mccreery-makes-history
Lady Anthebellum Own The Night 57,617 605,345
Jason Aldean My Kinda Party 20,194 1,903,752
Taylor Swift Speak Now 9,112 3,688,891
Lady Anthebellum Need You Now 8,421 3,681,460
The Band Perry The Band Perry 8,219 788,676
Orb's canadian opening act, the band perry are at 788k...and at sales still at the 8k per week...and considering their cd came out BEFORE orb's cd last year...they obviously have the staying power the orb doesnt have!
...so ask and you will receive...

Live review: Keith Urban @ the Pepsi Center
Well blue sky I got a feeling she wouldn't care who touched KU as long as he was ready to do her bidding when she calls.
I don't see any difference between Ellen and Moosie girl. They both are of the same persuasion! ((giggles))
So, now here...just a few choice quotes...and the most hilarious... from reviews of Trespass.
http://www.villagevoice.com/2011-10-12/film/keep-out-rich-fam-in-danger-and-careers-too-in-trespass/
"First-time screenwriter Karl Gajdusek’s attempts at making timely observations about the dangers of living beyond one’s means are drowned out by the howlers coming out of the characters’ mouths. Although Kyle’s line to his captors, “If it’s a kidney you want, then take mine, ass-f%&k,” could have been uttered by Cage in any one of his vehicles from the past decade, hearing Kidman bellow, “Do it, so we can all die because I don’t give a f#%k anymore,” seems to reveal the actress’s desperation more than Sarah’s."
http://www.observer.com/2011/10/movie-review-trespass-rex-reed-nicole-kidman-nicolas-cage/
"After getting banged around like a rag doll, Nicole Kidman turns black, blue and bloody, actually managing the impossible feat of looking cadaverous—and it’s not just the makeup."

"The film stars two actors who have come to define contemporary box-office poison: Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage."...Really, what’s the point of going on? “Trespass” reeks of desperation, of careers in free-fall and of a movie company shoveling product out the door like so much manure. Even at 85 minutes, it feels interminable."
http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie-critic-reviews/trespass.2/

So Pollstar's weekly gross averages...

...so orb gained $23k gross overall...
Ah yes...the irony...

Urban's sizzling show showers love on fans
HA!
Ah...to quote Montgomery Burns..."Excellent"...
...a big thanks to the Sacramento Bee for re-highlighting this thing...
http://www.sacbee.com/2011/10/14/3980512/the-jokes-on-country-superstar.html
The joke's on country superstar Keith Urban
So, in the latest Hot Tours report...

9 KEITH URBAN
$728,006
Oct. 8
Staples Center, Los Angeles (1/1)
13,408 (13,408)
...where orb drops to #9 with $728k from just one venue...the Staples Center.
Another obvious tell in my hypothesis on this is today I read that last night at his Chicago gig...orb introduced "Chicago" native Richard Marx as his "special guest."
http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/ct-ent-1017-keith-urban-20111016,0,970360.story
But quite NOT there...
...to be continued...
...continued...

Ten minutes short of three hours and 32 songs — if you count the one he improvised about the alphabet near the end."
...so three hours huh?
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2009/09/springsteen-united-center-born-to-run.html
Notes from Chicago: Bruce Springsteen's 'Born to Run' concert
September 22, 2009
So, wasnt it a no brainer orb was awarded the ACM Jim Reeves International Award just last year...
http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2010/09/21/keith-urban-collects-international-award/
"The award wasn’t just a nicety. While country music was born and bred in the U.S.A., it’s had a bit of a rocky road in building audiences beyond American borders. Keith’s made a point of taking his music to other territories, leading host Lee Ann Womack to hail “the world domination of Keith Urban.”
“This music is global,” Keith said, explaining his passion for exporting country. “We speak about the human condition. It’s why this music transcends all boundaries.”
Not that it’s always been that way.Keith gave an effective, condensed history of the genre’s global outreach, using his homeland as an example.
I think Maclen may be on to something about Kidman not wanting to have anyone invade her space
she has a persona that she has taken decades to establish TV breaks down those barriers.
"I think Maclen may be on to something about Kidman not wanting to have anyone invade her space

So, as I was purusing the inntertubes...came upon this article...

...tweets OBVIOUSLY NOT from orb himself....it's a pity isnt it...that the orb has NO personality!
So, in this week's cd sales stock numbers...
http://www.roughstock.com/blog/chart-news-for-october-19-2011-lauren-scotty-make-country-history-
Chart News For October 19, 2011: Scotty & Lauren Make Country History!
...so as was clearly obvious last week...
Where are the photos because tweets aren't always the truth
and seriously who takes a 10 month old to the theater- even if it is a kids program?
No Tara...There are no pics. All those tweets and no pics. None at the theatre or WF or Starbucks.
And the columnist is a member of the actors guild. Now could be he is looking for a film?? To do a favor for Moosie girl or her mgr? Well it would be a favor that could pay off.
I just don't believe anything that doesn't have a pic to it. And if you read the article and see how their stuck at the end of a sentence and paragraph it is like it was just dropped there.
This isn't the first time we have had this bunk. Won't be the last. ;)
So, I noticed this article today...
http://tasteofcountry.com/keith-urban-phoenix-commercials/
So, quite pathetically...here's orb's feeble attempt at giving swifty a "run for her money" on "special surprise guests" in the last few weeks of his tour...
http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/97885/keith-urban-wraps-his-2011-world-tour
Keith Urban Wraps His 2011 World Tour
"CAPITOL NASHVILLE artist KEITH URBAN concluded his “GET CLOSER 2011 WORLD TOUR” this past SATURDAY (10/15) in MINNEAPOLIS, MN, with special guest RCA NASHVILLE artist JAKE OWEN. KEITH kicked off the last week of the tour in L.A., and brought JOHN FOGERTY on stage to perform “Proud MARY,” which was followed by a collaboration with actor JACK BLACK on the song “Devil Went Down To GEORGIA.”
While KEITH performed in DENVER, CO he brought THE FRAY’s lead singer ISAAC SLADE onstage to perform the band’s song “How To Save A Life.” In MILWAUKEE, CAPITOL NASHVILLE artist ERIC CHURCH joined KEITH and performed his song “SPRINGSTEEN.” KEITH also had RICHARD MARX join him in CHICAGO, IL for a rendition of “Don’t Need Nothing” and “Better Life.”
...so let's take a head to head look at these "special guests...
orb
1. Russell crowe
2. Jake owen
3. John fogerty
4. Jack Black
5. Issac slade
6. Eric Church
Now swifty...
swift
1. Justin bieber
2. Jason Mraz
3. Hot Chelle rae
4. Nikki minaj
5. Haley williams
6. Tim mcgraw
7. Ronnie dunn
8. Andy grammer
9. Usher
10. T.I.
11. B.O.B
...and as I once described it...a very "eclectic" mix of country, pop, alternative, hip hop, R&B, Punk, raggae, soul and rap.
When orb himself played the Staples center in LA on Oct 8...he had not one...but two "special guests"... no doubt causing the even very orb friendly theboot.com to make a similar correlation...
http://www.theboot.com/2011/10/10/keith-urban-jack-black/
Keith Urban Gets 'Devilish' With Jack Black
"Taylor Swift isn't the only country superstar inviting unlikely duet partners onstage during their live shows. Over the weekend, actor Jack Black joined Keith Urban for an animated cover of Charlie Daniels' 1971 chart-topping country classic, 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia,'
...and of course they made that correlation because swifty was already getting huge media coverage with her "special guests" for the entire previous month. And it was also part of swifty's theme to have a "special guest" from a city she was playing.
...post scribbled...
....well, so following up on the previous topic...I found the end of this interview piece with eric church pretty hilarious...
http://www.cmt.com/news/cmt-offstage/1672875/offstage-behind-eric-churchs-keith-urban-cameo.jhtml
OFFSTAGE: Behind Eric Church's Keith Urban Cameo
((hmmmm))So you just got off the phone with Church and I'm suppose to believe you know Church as what? A phone buddy?? Ok maclen.
You must be a fansie of Church!! Couldn't be anything else could it. :D
Guess we both have friends in this business. ((giggles)))
I guess I shouldn't believe it after all you certainly don't believe me!! Oh brother!!! ((giggles)))
OFFSTAGE: Behind Eric Church's Keith Urban Cameo
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Here here!
I lift my Diet Sunkist to you, Maclen.
So, in this weeks Hot Tours report...

16,987 (21,192)
...so orb is at #5...grossing $952,894 in two shows...for an average of $476,447 avg gross per show... of the 2 shows, neither one were sellouts...orb sold 16,987 tickets out of a total of 21,192 tickets available...for a 8,096 average attendance per show.
Well, here right on the heels...Pollstars top grossing tours report is out...

...so, orb inched up another $5,360 in overall total gross...and rises 22 cents in avg ticket prices... and is up 66 extra people at his shows.
2009
$712,078 avg per show gross
2011
$500,000 avg estimated per show gross
2009
11,225 avg tickets per show
2011
9000 avg estimated tickets per show
2009
675,278 total tickets sold
2009
540,000 total estimated tickets sold
...of course the final numbers are dependent of what Pollstar's final gross talley will be. But based on previous years mid to final tour numbers show...they will NOT be too far off these numbers. Not great to be orb right now...taken also with his weak cd sales...which Ive very thoroughly documented here...orb needs a BIG CHANGE to keep these stats from CONTINUING to head south!

I lift my Diet Sunkist to you, Maclen."
Hey, hoosier! Glad I could coax you back onto the talk back machine! I lift my cup of java in toast to you....Dont make yourself SO scarce...this place is like your favorite little neighborhood cafe...which only OCCASIONALLY drifts into barroom brawls!
Yes maclen...It can get quite mundane without the occasional squabble. Barroom?? well to each his/her own! ((giggles)))
Yes...but I do much prefer a cool little cafe, Hatti! Though deep down I guess my preference would actually be a sort of skeptics and cynic "Algonquin Round Table!"

"Algonquin Round Table!"
Dorothy Parker-one of my all time favorites. How does that go. . .
Guns are messy,
Nooses give,
Poisons pain me,
Might as well live.
You have to love her.
No, No, Maclen
I was going for another cup of Java and I realized,
Razors pain me. Not poisons, that's from a stanza above.
Anyhoo. .
"Men don't make passes,
at women in glasses"
is another Parkerism-to make up for the slip-o-brain.

F P Adams...The trouble with this country is the politicians believe they can fool all of the people all of the time. ((giggles))
I guess some entertainers feel the sameway! ((giggles)))

As I commented before...would be a total embarrassment for the launch of orb's "man scent" if it generated such unenthusiastic interest from his own fansies!
maclen-
wished ya lived closer, dude.
I'm sure we could come up with SOMETHING if we tried hard enough.
I know I smelled skunk yesterday as I walked my doggy, there's my inspiration.
So let the "round table" continue...
...post screeched...
...well, only a day after I pointed out that it will be 3 weeks today since orb AND People.com announced the orb's "man scent" commercial contest and as yet there are NO fan submitted commercials posted on the official youtube channel...
http://www.youtube.com/PhoenixByKeithUrban
...so it seems People.com have posted the announcement again on the 20th and has popped online in a recent news search.
http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2011/10/20/keith-urban-phoenix-commercial/?xid=rss-topheadlines...
While the first announcement released on
Oct 3rd proclaimed...
http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2011/10/03/keith-urban-phoenix-cologne-commercial/
Ah ha...ANOTHER recent news piece on the orb that allows me to rant on orb's rather predictable and pretty obvious PR failure moment....
http://www.cmt.com/news/news-in-brief/1673089/new-ticket-sales-date-for-keith-urbans-hall-of-fame-fundraiser.jhtml
And with the changes in the Grammys country categories...there will now ONLY be " Best Country Solo Performance", "Best Country Duo/Group Performance", "Best Country Song" and "Best Country Album"...orb is surely worried his Grammy streak...and his major awards... is OVER!
It was a dumb idea to make a fan based video for the scent.
and I do think he will still get Grammys- the thing that sucks about the whole thing is that many many artist in smaller genres and artist who aren't commercial will no longer be recognized by the Grammys.
maclen...I'm sure KU has known for along time that he is not the top contender in much. It's been like this for a long time now.
He hasn't won EOTY in six years. (hmmmm))) same amount of time he has been married to Moosie girl.
So maybe he is just going along with what he wants to do rather than what we think he is doing!!

I hope he gets a birthday present and is asked to join the Opry
I think this is something overdue and I do think he plays there several times a year others like Dierks and Brad are long time members its time. If it doesn't happen this year I can't see it happening at all.
And he comes up empty...
and he is doing the Country Christmas Special taping on Nov 10th and airing on December 1st
I am so glad was not asked to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
Let me throw this out there and see what flies.
The Grand Ole Opry has always been an invitation that is considered an honor to a country music performer.
Perhaps your boy does not behave in an honorable way, and they do not feel he would be a good representative of the Opry.
H
I was looking over the people who are not in the Opry
George Strait, Chesney, Mcgraw, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Tanya Tucker, Waylon, David Allen Coe etc
With the exception of Strait all of them have some kind of scandal in their lives-
interesting
