Keith Urban's new single channels Taylor Swift!

"Put You in a Song" lyrics....

Well here you come again and you’re lookin’ so fine
You don’t notice me but it’s alright
I’m just a guy who wishes that I could be your man someday
Yeah a picture paints a thousand words it’s true
But it’s still not enough for how I feel about you
I wanna put you in a melody, I gotta set you to a groove

(Chorus)

I wanna put you in my car and drive
And turn you up loud, roll down all the windows and shout it out
I love this girl oh
If I could press play, repeat how happy I’d be
Wherever I’d go I’d have you there with me
You’d be right where you belong
I wanna put you in a song, oh oh oh
Well I’d sing about your smile and your pretty blue eyes
The way your hair shimmers in the sunlight
It’d be so easy I’d just write it from my heart
‘Cause I gotta tell the world what you mean to me
Wrap you up in a melody so you’ll be
Stuck in my head all day
‘Cause you’re already there anyway, yes you are

(Chorus)

I wanna put you in my car and drive
And turn you up loud, roll down all the windows and shout it out
I love this girl
If I could press play, repeat how happy I’d be
Wherever I’d go I’d have you there with me
You’d be right where you belong
I wanna put you in a song
And if I get it right everybody’d be singing along yeah
And when they see you on the street they’ll say
Hey ain’t you the girl in that song

(Chorus)

I wanna put you in my car and drive
And turn you up loud, roll down all the windows and shout it out
I’m in love with this girl
Yeah if I could press play, rewind a couple million times
Imagine for a moment that you’re all mine
Every night I’d drive you home
If I could put you in a
Let me put you in a song
Let me put you in a song
Oh a pretty little song about you baby

HA! Channeling taylor swift! Hilarious, Urban Myths. So, initial reaction...ONE VERSE...and the CHORUS ...repeated THREE TIMES? WOW...and it took 3 songwriters to come up with this!? Seriously, orb sounds far more IMMATURE than swifty.

"I wanna put you in my car and drive
And turn you up loud, roll down all the windows and shout it out
I love this girl oh
If I could press play, repeat how happy I’d be"

...sounds like poetry a high school geek would write to a girl! So, the orb wants to "turn up" HIS GIRL loud? Does he also want to "change her channel" so she "plays a really cool song?" You see, what orb and co. did here is they've equated the girl "to a radio!"
Now here...

"If I could press play, repeat how happy I’d be
Wherever I’d go I’d have you there with me
You’d be right where you belong"

...see, now here they are attempting to allude to the girl...being the cassette tape player! Wow...this is so pedestrian ...I think justin "leave it to" bieber sings about far more complex subjects! Orb wants to drive his girl home in his...car...and then he wants to..turn her up loud"...I suppose so that "everyone can hear how much he loves her!" Then he wants to "press play" so he can "hear how much he loves her" over and over and over. If orb wasnt so mediocre...I seriously couldnt make this stuff up!

..."postscripture"

(cause the power of christ compells you!)

...so, as is my want, I just want to play contrast and compare...orb's single to swifty's single...

Taylor Swift
Mine lyrics

Uh, uh, uh oh
Uh, uh, uh oh

verse
You were in college working part time waiting tables
Left a small town, never looked back
I was the flight risk with the fear of fallin'
Wonderin' why we bothered with love if it never lasts

verse
I say "Can you believe it?"
As we're lying on the couch
The moment I can see it
Yes, yes I can see it now

chorus
Do you remember we were sittin' there by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

verse
Flash forward and we're taking on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learned my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes

verse
But we've got bills to pay
We got nothing figured out
When it was hard to take yes, yes
This is what I thought about

chorus
Do you remember we were sitting there by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

chorus
Do you remember all the city lights on the water
You saw me start to believe for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Uh, uh, uh, oh

verse
And I remember that fight 2:30 AM
Cause everything was slippin' right out of our hands
I ran out crying and you followed me out into the street

verse
Braced myself for the goodbye
Cause that's all I've ever known
And you took me by surprise
You said "I'll never leave you alone"

chorus
You said
"I remember how we felt sittin' by the water
And every time I look at you it's like the first time
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter
She is the best thing that's ever been mine"

(Hold on, we'll make it last)
(Hold on, never turn back)
(Hold on) You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
(Hold on) You are the best thing that's ever been mine

(Hold on) Do you believe it?
(Hold on) We're gonna make it now
(Hold on) And I can see it
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
I can see it now (see it now)

...so, 4 chorus' interwoven between 6 ORIGINAL VERSES! Swifty's song is an EPIC compared to the orb's little ditty! So tell me, which song was written by the 42 yr old...with the help of 2 other songwriters and which song was solely written by a 20 yr old again?

...trippinly...

...so, just a parting shot...just to give the hyperventilatiing and lurking orb fansies something to seethe over tommorrow morning. You see swifty is my current "guage"...swifty is a "what IS"...while I consider the orb to be "what WAS"
I have my Declination Theory to hypothesis what I beleive the orbs next cd will do in sales. Nothing Ive seen the past few years shows me anything...nothing whatsoever...that the orb's cd will sell HUGE...not to his previous 2 mil sales mark of 2007, and certainly not the 4 mil mark of 2005. NOw I've already said I believe that swifty STILL has a huge following...her last cd HAS sold 6 mil copies. NOw Ive just compared swifty's current single, Mine, to orb's upcoming single...Ive just personally evaluated the structure and my interpretation of how they stack up head to head. NOw, Ive now just gone to youtube to check out swifty's single. Now, it sounds VERY country. Will the orbs...or will it be attempting to be "poppy?" Well, swifty's official video on youtube, incredibly, HAS gotten 3.2 mil views in the 10 days its been out! Now considering swifty's last cd, Fearless, has now sold 6 mil...it is absolutely reasonable to believe that those 3 mil viewers of her new single video on youtube are expected to buy her next cd coming out in Oct. So, how did the orb's first singles official video do on youtube? Sweet thing has gotten 902k views in one year. Well, that sounds about right, only 890k people have bought his previous cd, Defying Sales. Now, as to swifty vs orb in upcoming cd sales...recall I was pointing out how orbs next cd, GET! Loser! is dropping on nov 16...ALONG with Kid Rock, kanye west, a springsteen package cd...AND country's Rascal flatts cds! And from what ive been able to see doing a few google searches...swifty's cd drops on oct 25 and HAS NO major musican dropping a cd on that date! Not a country act...a rap act or rock act. Now again on the official video views on youtube...isnt it even an issue with his monkey-members...that orb doesnt EVEN release a video for his singles till weeks, or if not months later? Is there even a video for "I'm in?" And for instance, orbs single, Til summer comes around came out in NOv 2009, but his official video didnt come out until Jan 2010! That is HARDLY optimizing your PR when the iron is hot, orb! Swifty's new single came out, AND a video...which now has 3.2 mil views on youtube! Clearly, that COULD be part of the problem for orb...and his declining sales!

I have a question about this recording, lyrics aside.

The story is that Keith purchased a bouzouki, took it to this writing session, and the song wrote itself. But Standing Right In Front of You features Keith on bouzouki. He already had the instrument during the DG sessions.

He didn't say when he purchased the instrument or when he got together with Buxton and Hughes.

Is this new song a holdover from the DG sessions? As in old material that's been dusted off?

LindaMarie said...

Why do I get this feeling this CD will be just like the last two? Where are the soul searching, thought provoking, gut wrenching lyrics of yesteryear? I expect this out of Taylor but a 42 year old man? Something is off. Unless this song has a killer beat, I see this single spiraling before it become. I thought Kiss a Girl was childish. I don't know...

blue sky said...

Great memory A440! More proof that you can't believe any of Keith's stories.

Isn't the first song released on a new album the one song that the record label thinks will grab everybody because they think it is one of the best songs on the album? Well, I'm speechless if this is the best Keith has to offer. He will make the perfect opening act for Justin Bieber!

blue sky said...

A440, do you also find it odd that "baby girl" isn't referenced in the song - only "girl"? It backs up what you are thinking!

LindaMarie, since checking into rehab a few months after his wedding, I've been waiting for some thought-provoking song like "You're Not My God" - if he really got what he should have out of rehab. This is what a songwriter does; it is therapy for them to get their feelings out on paper. I'm still waiting, but I don't think he ever really got it in rehab either.

Tara said...

It took three people to write this?

LindaMarie said...

Blue Sky:

I agree - however I don't believe he went to rehab even. However, that is another blog. I think he got brainwashed from the COS for those three months, or he got a lobotomy. He hasn't made any sense since.

Tara - I agree. This is just nonsense and I am not really expecting too much this time around either.

Anonymous said...

LindaMarie, I don't think he went to rehab either. But I do think he broke the contract and she took possession of whatever assets he put up in the deal which would explain why he turned into a stepford husband. Just my opinion of course.

A440 said...

Thanks, blue sky, for the shout-out! Yes, I noticed that lack of "baby" with the "girl" reference, but also caught the blue-eyes mention.

Don't know what conclusion to draw if this song is in fact a refugee from the DG sessions. He was calling her Baby Girl by that time. And there's no way in hell he'd ever be involved with a song that didn't reference her in an obvious way. I mean, this was the guy who subjected the public to A New Sunshine and Thank You.

So, apparently, the bowing and scraping continue anon.

Tara said...

I think we are safe in calling him the artist formerly known as Keith Urban...

as for the past...
I do think he got caught. I do think he went to rehab (not for as long as they claim) and I do think the contract was renegotiated.

LindaMarie said...

mikki, I totally agree. He did whatever he could to get out that marriage, but like I said that is another blog all together. I do think this Stepford act has a lot to do with his creativity. In order to feel from the heart, you must believe from you are feeling. By the looks of those lyrics and/or some from the past two CD's I say he is faking it till he makes it. However, he is trying to convince no one but himself. Of course that is my opinion.

Anonymous said...

A440, are you sure about the "baby girl". I thought he said that for the first time at the People's Choice Awards at the end of last year?

blue sky said...

I am in agreement with all of you over his "rehab" situation. I too believe that the whole "baby girl" is a recent development since DG was released.

Anonymous said...

LindaMarie, ever wonder if NK is making the decisions and Keith is limited as to what he can write/sing about?

A440 said...

mikki, I cannot swear to it, but my gut says he's been calling her Baby Girl in public for quite some time now. I think it pre-dates the PCAs.

maclen said...

Yeah, I seem to recall the whole "baby girl" nonsense is fairly recent. I seem to recall, in fact, reading it first in an Urban Myths blog only last year...and yes, perusing the archives...the earliest reference is Nov. 23, 2009...

Urban Myths Weekend News Recap

"AMA Show – Keith wins his first AMA Award. He does thank the fans (it is a fan-voted award, after all). Says the award is for his Baby Girl – his 42-year old wife – oh, and Sunday. Kidman was in the audience long enough to be shown blowing Keith a kiss at the appropriate moment."

And yes, the "notion" that this song could of actually been a past reject...reworked for the new cd is NOT too farfetched. As orb himself stated, he began recording 8 months ago, back in January...and he also stated a few weeks ago that the album is just over half way done...and as I previously noted...he now only has 3 months to finish the other half of the album! Now, I cannot stress how the simple fact of videos having on the success of orb's album. As Ive stated before, singles and as a off shoot to singles, videos...are mainly a PR assist to the main seller, the album. Orb is very poor in regarding the videos. Orb doesnt have a video ready on the release of his singles. That IS a major PR tool to today's business of selling cds. So the single is released, the orb's monkeys work the radio station phone lines to get the single up the charts...but then his album comes out and sells poorly... a few months later the video comes out and the only people interested are the monkeys at monkeyland...meanwhile his cd continues to sell poorly! See, what the orb and his inept people dont seem to realize that simply "apeing" the song subjects of today's "Kids"...ie: swifty...is not enough... and that they play ALL the angles, all the tools available and at the right time! SO its not too surprising to me that swifty's new single has an accompaning "video"...with a viewing total of 3.2 mil on her official youtube channel...which pretty much indicates that she has 3.2 million "eyes" already perhaps waiting for her next cd to drop! It's all simple PR 101...and something the orb's inept team just do not realize!

Sarah and Jedd both posted on Facebook about writing with Keith (before they did and afterwards), it was a few months ago. From what I understand most of the lyrics were actually written by Sarah Buxton. Other then "Stupid Boy", I find her lyrics to be juvenile. Here's the lyrics to her first hit.

THAT KIND OF DAY
Stayed out about two hours too late
And now it's hard gettin' out of this bed
Man, my boyfriend was a pain in the butt last night
Now he's an ache in my head

I stubbed my toe on the dresser
And I guess it's too late to shower and do my hair

Yeah, throw a ball cap on
Hell, half the day is gone
Nothin' else could go wrong, whoa

Fifty bucks is all I got
When times are tough, it's time to shop
And the credit card will buy a lot, whoa

What's another bill to pay?
It's that kind of day
Hey, hey, hey

Got twenty-six messages on my voice mail
And I've only called my best friend back
And I told her when it comes to my life these days
I'm somewhere between a cry and a laugh

She said, my mom just called her
And said, I look like I've gained five pounds

Oh, slip into my fat jeans
Overdose on mint ice cream
Treat the day just like a dream, whoa

Hope I see someone I know
And I'll smile and put on a show
Say I got somewhere to go, whoa

Everyone's got something to say
It's that kind of day
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Standing still on the interstate
And I swear some old lady just flipped me the bird
Did she just flip me the bird?

It's gotta go up from here
Today is gonna disappear
And nothin's gonna interfere, whoa

Gonna buy myself some flowers
And then spend a couple hours
Talkin' to my higher power, whoa

And ask him why life's this way
I'm gonna ask him why my life's this way
There's just no telling what he's gonna say
It's that kind of day
Hey, yeah, hey, yeah

Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah
Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah

A440 is it possible that the bouzouki he used previously wasn't his? Or that maybe it was damaged with the rest of his instruments in the flooding and that's why he bought a new one? Just a thought.

OOOHH dawg! Orb IS down with the teens!!!! Almost right beside napalm's repulsive "white supremacist d&@K" and "david duke c*#K" when responding to a question whether black women are into him...orb reveals a pretty questionable notion that a song called "Teenage Dream" is stuck inside his head! I realize orb is trying to tap into that lucrative "teen market"...but I'm sure that teen market would find it very creepy a notion that "Teenage Dreams" are revolving in a 42 year old dude's head! Chock another one up for inept team orb!

Keith has always said that his taste in music is very eclectic. He listens to all the music that is popular today. Because he is a country music artist is he only supposed to listen to country? Because he's in his 40's is he only supposed to listen to music made by others over 40???? Have you been to a gym or a tanning place lately? Because Katy Perry and artists that are like her is the type of music that's played there. You only have to hear that song a few times and it will be stuck in your head.

So, inspired by Urban Myths interesting and revealing tidbit...I thought I'd seek out any other revealing morsels! And so, courtesy of those very resourceful monkeys...I found this interview...

http://blogs.mcall.com/lehighvalleymusic/2010/09/keith-urban-talks-about-new-disc-career-future.html

September 2, 2010

Keith Urban talks about new disc, career future

Wow. Tell me a little bit about it. How does it differ from your past stuff? What should we look for?

“Oh … good question. I always find it challenging to define records. I don’t know. I think it encompasses whatever it is that I do. It’s not a huge musical or subject departure from records I’ve done prior to this one. I really couldn’t define it. I think it’s a sexier record, but it’s still a tempo record. I mean, I just don’t know. I don’t really know how to define it just yet and I guess, given that we’re not finished with it yet …"

I mean, HE JUST DOESNT KNOW! He has the title of the album...GET! Loser!...presumably a song on the album... he has the first single coming out next week...yet he has no idea how to define it?!
Yeah, well I also figure capnash has no idea of what they have in orb's new cd...but then they dont really care as they are rushing it out...giving orb only 11 "uncustomary" months to write and record it! Now I recently recall a fansie commenting that "orb seems to work best when he's "RUSHED." Well, looking at orb previous album release schedule, going back to 2002's golden road on thru orb's next cd coming out in nov 2010 is...it looks like this:

1-Golden road-released oct 2002

2-Be here- was released 23 months later on Sept 2004

3-love pain & the whole-was released 26 months later on nov 2006

4-Defying Sales- released 29 months later on march 2009

5-GET! Loser!-scheduled release 20 months later on nov 2010 BUT...NOTE: From orb's own mouth, in this interview...

"It was time for new music and I’ve been writing quite a bit since January. And we were just ready to go with new music, and it’s nice to get a record out before the end of the year,..."

...so orb will write, record and release this cd, or more precisely capnash will only allow orb...to work on this cd actually for only 11 months! That's quite a different amount of time from those past albums...if you notice...took LONGER to be released between albums. 23 months...then 26 months...then 29 months...and now, only 11 months verified to release his next cd! So clearly, I see capnash forcing orb to finish up this cd very quickly...and getting it out there with a "stripped-down approach" These ARE NOT good signs for the orb!

123xyz said...Because he's in his 40's is he only supposed to listen to music made by others over 40???

No, I would think that inspiration would come from anywhere. However, wouldn't you think, especially by your 40's, that you would be more likely to spend time with people and things that reflect your personal values and "marker on the road of life", if you will?

I think what I am trying to explain, is that somehow, perhaps it was the drugs, things came to a halt emotionally at age 17, and have stayed there.
People at 40 writing usually come off more as say, Petty with Highway Companion, or Lennon with Imagine, do you see? A little deeper, a little more 'thought provoking', I thought that is one of the things that his fans loved about him, the poet. . . .

Where did your poet go?

I think your poet was a PR ploy to begin with, or maybe your poet's playbook had enough in it to support the early success, and now. . . well. . .

I do believe today is the day that Rabbit Hole premeires in Toronto!

We'll see, then if it gets a distributor.

I saw a recipe yesterday for stove top popcorn with butter and kosher salt, but they want me to put pepper on it. Anyone want it that way? Tell me now, because I'm shopping this morning!

123, that IS a possibility.

What I find interesting is his dusting off "Shut Out the Lights," about a couple trying to navigate around a terrible fight and not inflict too much damage.

Golly, why would he bring that up now? To the point of offering up a video snippet of it...

How about it Tara, do you think Keith is limited as to what he is allowed to write/sing about while hes in this marriage to NK. Think about it, hes not allowed to talk about past loves, never says anything of a personal nature about NK. So why wouldn't she be putting restrictions on what he can sing? All his songs since the marriage have been about her, inspiried by her or chosen by her. Isn't that right? That certainly seems to limit what he can write or sing.

Yeah, mikki, surely a narrowing of his outlook, experiences..options...etc...but I think hoosier hits it on the head with this comment...

hoosierlady said...

"I think your poet was a PR ploy to begin with, or maybe your poet's playbook had enough in it to support the early success, and now. . . well. . ."

There is a different perception of the orb...say from 2000 to his peak 2005...and today. And quite clearly, the reality is the percieved image of the "addicted, wilder, womanizer" orb of 2005 WAS far more successful than the "happily domesticated hubby and father" of today. And clearly, as I intimated in my firt comment of how the orb's new single is a rather simple and pedestrian "one verse and chorus repeated" little jingle, I would submit that the orb's past success was based more on "image" and less on the "musicianship." And the notion by the fansies that orb simply has to put out a "great" album and he will be a huge success again is just not realistic!

Anonymous said...

maclen, Keith's image before NK was that of a humble, barefoot poet type. He admitted to drug use and rehab but as far as the fans knew, that was all behind him. Keith as a bad boy, womanizer wasn't public knowledge until after NK came along. It was said that she put it out there so it appeared that she was the only woman who could tame him. You know, because shes so desirable and all that. He was in a relationship for 8 years and another for 2 or 3. Doesn't fit the playboy pattern does it?

It just seems to me that he has to revolve around her now and so does his music. Based on the albums hes put out since marrying her, I have to think that there are restrictions on what hes allowed to write and sing. Love songs (to NK) and this bubblegum stuff is not what took him to the top. Unless the guy lives in a bubble theres inspiration all around him to draw from. Why no songs for his only child? Shes part of that "happy domesticated hubby and father". Is it because the focus HAS to be on NK and only NK???

http://www.countrymusictattletale.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/KU-CD-COVER-FINAL1.jpg

...is the orb getting "phallic" much?!! Clearly, the monkeys have about as much interest in the orb's lyrics...as they do of who is playing the harmonica or the spoons on the single! Orb would certainly SEll ALOT more of his "music" if he was to include an extra 6X4 inch glossy photo of his frosted highlights in each cd! It is clear the monkeys concern is less about his "words and music"...and ALOT about his "thrusting torso on stage!"

Well, I would surely stand corrected on the "womanizer" bit, mikki. It is clear his current "domesticated" image is not a big seller. And as I mentioned, a super fab new cd cannot change that fact. I doubt if CapNash would be completely "satisfied" with orb's new cd if it was to even get 100% positive reviews from critics...yet was to only sell 5 or 600k copies!

The last time Keith was in Germany, he granted a print interview wherein he moaned about how lightweight his lyrics were. The writer noted that he wished his lyrics were more complex.

Well, if Keith truly wanted more sophistication to his lyrics, he'd stick to writing with co-writers who bring that out: people like Skip Ewing, Paul Jefferson and even the dreaded Vernon Rust. (I mean, is he even in touch with Rodney Crowell anymore?)

But he chose Buxton (who needed two co-writers for her "Stupid Boy," including the terrific Gary Burr) and Hughes. So I guess he really doesn't want to improve his work. He wants to write for teenage and college-age girls who won't note how his work is deteriorating, how a 42-year-old man writes like a 17-year-old sorrority sister.

Toby Keith was right: Keith wants to appeal to bored housewives.

And I think he's being aided and abetted by Dann Huff, the Phil Collins of country-pop, and CapNash, which needs to make some serious money.

Make nice to people on your way up, Keith. They're the same people you'll meet on your way down.

I'll take some of hoosierlady's popcorn less the pepper, please. Like I said earlier, this will be a great show. One I know we all will love watching!

I couldn't agree more A440. I think when Keith cleanned house with his band, he should have done the same with his writing partners and switch to a new producer. I think he goes back to the same people because it's safe and easy.

Clearly, when it comes to orb as a songwriter, A440...the "truth is truly in the pudding"...a simple google search can reveal it so plainly and concisely. JUst a few choice lyrics on orb's past "solo penned" songs...

I Told You So lyrics

"Oh, can't you see that for worse or for better
We're better together
Please, just come back home
And don't say that you're sorry
And I won't say I told you so
Sometimes it's like we're deep in nothing but love
And the slightest thing can grow so foolishly
Please"

Won't Let You Down Lyrics

"And every step along the highway
Of your life
I'll be the man standing beside you
Believe me that I will
Don't forget you came and you saved me
You saved my life"

Got It Right This Time lyrics

"She believes in me like I've been tryin' to do
I'm seein' things I've never seen before
Ever since you came into my life I've been a better man
Run, Run, Run, I was running scared
Always lookin' for a place to leave
And I couldn't seem to find where I belonged
Until she took my hand"

Why's It Feel So Long Lyrics

"I just kissed you goodbye
Half an hour ago
I know you're drivin' to the airport
But I just gotta pick up the phone
And hear you one more time
Saying my name
I must be going outta my mind"

Faster Car lyrics

"I need a faster car now
A rocket ship straight to the moon
I need a faster way to show you
How much I need you, baby
It's a crime, it's a sin
It's a damn shame but you're the cause
And you're the cure of all my pain"

...not much deviation from his usual theme..."Oh Darlin' please...believe in me...have faith in me...together we are one...whole...I gotta find a way to show how worthy...yada yada" The new single follows the basic formula...

Put You in a Song" lyrics....

Well here you come again and you’re lookin’ so fine
You don’t notice me but it’s alright
I’m just a guy who wishes that I could be your man someday
Yeah a picture paints a thousand words it’s true
But it’s still not enough for how I feel about you
I wanna put you in a melody, I gotta set you to a groove"

...those are PATENTED orb solo penned lyric themes and subjects...basic and pedestrian..."forgive me...believe in me...only you "complete me!" Before news of the subject of his next single came out, I asked, "What else does the orb have to say beyond how he "wants to turn his darlin' up loud and "press play so he can hear her over and over?" It WILL be intersting, I'm sure...when the track listing of the cd comes out.

Such simplistic songwriting there. He might need to use the ghostwriter more in the future.

maclen, you've pulled some tasty examples, but the absolute nadir of his talent must-must-must be "A New Sunshine," to wit:

Baby, I waited so long to find you
And as I am lying here tonight
Lookin' at you while you're sleepin'
I think in this world I'm the luckiest guy
People say I smile all the time
Just look at you baby, it's no wonder why I am

(Chorus)
Head over heels, I'm crazy for you yes I am
Can't go one second without thanking God
That I'm your man
Straight out of heaven, you were just in time
You didn't just save me baby,
You brought a new sunshine
Yeah, a new sunshine

That's why I buy you flowers for no reason
Other than to see you smile
And as I write this song I hope
You hear and feel my love in every line
People say that passion fades
I'm only finding more each and every day

(Chorus)
Head over heels, I'm crazy for you yes I am
Can't go one second without thanking God
That I'm your man
Straight out of heaven, you were just in time
You didn't just save me baby,
You brought a new sunshine
Yeah, a new sunshine

I was lost, I was broken
You gave me love unspoken
All of the colors are changin'
My heart's alive and singin'!

Woo hoo

(Chorus)
Head over heels, I'm crazy for you yes I am
Can't go one second without thanking God
That I'm your man
Straight out of heaven, you were just in time
You didn't just save me baby,
You brought a new sunshine
Yeah, a new sunshine
A new sunshine

Every freakin' cliche in the Soppy Romantic's Playbook. Truly awful choices. Derivative. Predictable. Shameful.

And all for the love of Baby Girl.

Woo hoo, indeed.

So, A440...IS the orb's new single "catchy" enough...or is is too "rascal flattsy...is it a "more high-octane "kiss a girl"...as these intial comments...from "non monkeysite" gushing members?

http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=99976&page=2

Seems like the "glow" of the orb is beginning to wane...at least to most of these commenters!
And I see, the orb IS still attempting to plunder that 70's classic vibe I've been mentioning since the beginning of the year...

http://www.cmt.com/news/cmt-blogs/1647769/thirty-five-minutes-with-keith-urban.jhtml

Thirty-Five Minutes With Keith Urban

"In a very casual John Lennon "Love Is Real" T-shirt, sitting somewhere in front of a computer in Nashville for a web chat with fans"..."But the best was when he took the time to list his vast array of musical influences. This is not a complete list, but he mentioned Supertramp, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Dr. Hook, Jackson Browne and the Eagles. But mostly, John Mellencamp"

I know the orb WOULD LOVE to believe..."that 70's classic rock would be right at home in the current country scene"...but in orb's case, it is simply wishful thinking! ORb, by himself, trying to "fuse" a rock-country genre "sound"...doesnt a trend make! It already exists...it was called "Southern Rock"... epitomized by Lynard skynard. And I dont exactly see any props from orb for skynard! Orb is simply desperate to find some kind of 'niche sound" to carve a place for himself! Seeing how his stuff is rather mediocre...I can understand why he would be looking for a special "label!"

HA! HA!

So, there must be a symbiosis...that I felt that the Bay City Rollers covered dusty springfield's "I Only want to be with you" with far more "soul" than the orb's mediocre live version...but, courtesy of a very usefull monkey...I just listened to orb's new single...

...and what was the first thought that flashed through my mind?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBn2ux5vRHk

...the orb's new single sounds more "bubblegum" than sean cassidy, The Archies and josie and the pussycats combined!

Mikki:

In response to your other question, has she called the shots. You betcha, however I think Urban is fairly content to sit back and enjoy this ride for what it is worth. He may look a little better however he doesn't sound better. As usual this song will sound much better live as it does nothing for me on radio. If the rest of the album sounds like this, then there is no hope for him in my eyes. Whether he loves her enough to stay in this farce, or it is strictly business, the Urban of yesteryear is gone. Damn shame.
