Something seems to be missing...

Have you noticed that Keith Urban is never seen with his daughter?

Yes, he was there with the sling on the set. But we haven't seen one picture of them together, of Daddy actually holding her in public; not just in fuzzy shadows sneaking into a house. So why would that be? Could it be that Nicold would be jealous? Could it be that Keith has no regard for his daughter?

Perhaps it's because he doesn't need to have anyone see her with him to prove to the world what kind of parent he is; it's not necessary. Too bad his wife couldn't learn from that.

Sorry to break this to you, Nicole, but he is not coming back...

Did you all realize that Katie Holmes was having previews for her new PLAY on Broadway this week? Well if you live under a rock you may have noticed that it’s been the talk of the gossip world. Not just the previews but the rehearsals and how Katie and Suri and Tom have adapted to their new city with a great amount of gusto. For the last six weeks or so we have seen Katie and Suri about the town. We have also seen almost daily shots of Katie going to the theater. Yes, Katie wore rolled up jeans and was rumored to be in an old pair of Tom's jeans. The result of the media frenzy is that Katie got attention for her play. Add to this Katie got good reviews for her work, and they were earned because everyone was out to get her.

Which takes us over the great big pond to London. Nicole Kidman is there rehearsing, too. She has been seen out and about, too. She has taken her daughter all over the city and she, like Katie, is joined by her husband for a night on the town or an afternoon jaunt. On Saturday Kidman and her husband, the less famous Keith Urban, took in a PLAY that is all the rage in London. Just like Katie and Tom, Nicole and Keith had their helpers get them in and out of the busy city. Just like Katie, it appears Nicole was wearing her husband’s jeans and for a cute twist, he was wearing her fedora. It brought back warm fuzzy memories of when I used to wear my boyfriend’s stocking cap in the cold; of course I was fourteen at the time. But it appears that Nicole just can't let her obsession with all things Tom Cruise go.

Dress, act and follow the Katie trail. It's too bad that Kidman is in an ensemble production that is going to be based on looks more than talent. Or is it? Yes, Kidman couldn't do what Katie is doing. Don't start on her performance in the Blue Room a decade ago when she was bouncing around naked and supposedly screwing her co-star. It doesn't take much to be a clothes horse or show pony. Kidman won an Oscar for that. Rubber nose and all. Being on the stage is about finding something inside to use to project the character. Kidman doesn't do that, she just wears the make-up and the costumes and the audience has to do a lot of its own thinking. I know when I see her I wonder why does anyone let this simpleton try to act? I wonder if Keith had to explain the play to her on Saturday?

Nicole, it’s getting old how you keep trying to outdo Tom. You can't. He is laying the groundwork for a comeback. You couldn't lay your husband. There will be no groundwork for you. You are a one note actress whose fifteen minutes are slowly ending. And, dear, try not to smother the baby, perhaps the nanny can show you how to hold her. You are a wife? Yep, you both look so happy again to be together. So wipe the smirk off your face, the world is getting wise to you and hopefully you will be soon on your way to a new title, that one being a trivia question… Can you name Tom Cruise's second wife?

Should We Hope For A Hit???

It's apparently make or break time for Nicole Kidman concerning her film career, and while we have been enjoying each new drop in her box office and popularity, its time to take a look at what would happen if Australia is not a hit of any kind.

First, Kidman would definitely take a big hit on her ‘asking cost’ for a film. That would not be tragic as she has not had the big huge hits that many of her contemporaries have had. Most of her films do well either with critics or in foreign markets which has been a bargaining chip. Add to that the Oscar that she used to get a better asking price. However, that Oscar is almost ten years old and she has not won nor been nominated for any major awards in the last five years. Kidman working for cheap may be the future.

Second, an addict of the spotlight and the drug of fame, we have all seen the lengths that Kidman will go to in securing a headline or two. She remarried, had a child, and even exploited her husband's rehab to keep her name in the tabloids. She has used her older children for photo ops and exploited the hallowed United Nations for her addiction to fame. Yes, she could care less about fulfilling her duties as “ambassador” if demonstrated by her attention to the cause, but bet your bottom dollar that if she needs to promote Nicole Kidman we will see her at a UN event speaking with her affected style about something she really doesn't have the intellect to understand.

Third, Kidman is getting too old to have many options left. She has not gone back to the stage in over a decade. She is a film actress in an industry that throws away a woman over forty. Kidman's fault? No, not in this case, but she has shown though her choices in roles that she is not capable of making a decision that will keep her career trendy and vibrant.

What will be the result if Kidman has yet another failure? More than likely her faux happy family will continue to be exploited, even more. For those of us who want Keith Urban free of her influence and her being, the future looks bleak. If she has a hit, we could see the noose around Urban's neck lessened and eventually we might see his freedom. As he begins to rebound his career and hers continues in free fall we will see her more and more as being part of his life. Fame is indeed a mighty heady drug.

Back to the Past for a Few Hours...

For a few brief hours last week it was if we were back in 2005 and we were watching the continued rise of Keith Urban. If the rumors are true about medication for the back and last week’s PR are any indication, I, for one, prefer the slightly less together Mr. Urban. I have been full of Keith lust - something that hasn't happened for this writer since November 16, 2005, when the Boston pictures of Kidman and Keith first appeared on People.com.

Keith lust? Shall I define that to those of you who arrived after Kidman came on the scene? The man is very sexy. He would use that sexuality on stage, in interviews and when meeting his fans. Yes, part of it was staged, but a lot of it wasn't. The man oozed sex. And being a warm-blooded person, you responded to that. Seeing him strut into the rehearsals for Fashion Rocks you can see it again, just the way he carries himself and shows a hint of tease. On stage for the NFL concert he had it on display flirting with a make-up girl and looking right at members of the audience. It has been awhile since he has been that way and it has been missed.

What do we attribute this to? It couldn't be medication alone; perhaps being away from the middle-aged anchor known as his wife has helped. She has literally sucked any sexiness out of him by making him look flabby and dorky. You think I am kidding? Look at the photo from the awards in London on Monday evening and compare it to the one at Fashion Rocks. He looks like a bored little banker and she looks like Dr. Fix-Me-Up has paid an extended visit. Keith may have been blunting his nature from coming out, but why? Because Kidman is jealous of any success he has. Let’s face it; of the two of them he is currently more successful and more popular. Either way it was nice to see Keith Urban back, even if it was for a very short time. Let’s just celebrate that he can get it back; we all know when this whole thing is over he will be back to normal - the man who is in London is anything but normal.

Back in New York for Special Events and THe Wife Still Doesn't Support Him

February 13, 2008, was a special day in the life and career of Keith Urban. For the first time in his career he got to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York. This is a big deal for any artist and must have been exciting personally as well as being a career milestone. Where was Keith's wife on this very special concert date? Was she on site, supporting her husband, and enjoying the show? Nope. She was half a world away in Australia. Now later in the month she could travel from Australia to Japan to promote her movie career and then commute to the US in time to attend and present at the Oscar's, an award show related to her industry. Keith escorted her even though it had nothing to do with him. He went to support his wife. Millions of spouses a day do things they don't want to because it's good for their spouse and/or makes their spouse happy. After all the trips scheduled for Keith to travel between Australia and the States, Nicole could not this once do something for her husband and come to New York for this special day? I don't care if she was four-five months pregnant she should have been there. If she was thirteen months pregnant and had to give birth backstage she still should have been there. Not only did she not support his work for his career but she did not support the talented musician that is her husband. Even Keith said he wished she had been there.

So it's seven months later and Keith is back in New York for more special events. He is one of three musicians performing in concert to kickoff the NFL season. He is the only country artist in the lineup of performers and the concert is a big deal. Lots of promotion, interviews, advertising, and parts of the concert were streamed online as it happened for the world to see in addition to the fans attending live. Keith was scheduled to play at half time for the Thanksgiving game in 2006 but had to cancel because of his rehab stay. It took almost two years to reschedule his NFL appearance. Was Nicole by her husband's side this time, supporting the man she married and his career? Nope. She's still out of the country, this time in London rehearsing for a movie that doesn't start filming for several weeks yet. I can't imagine marrying a man I had so little respect for. Her selfish, self-centeredness has got to be without compare.

After the NFL kickoff concert Keith will also take part in Fashion Rocks, which films Friday Sept. 5 and airs Tues Sept 9. Again, lots of advertising and promotion for what's being called "one of the biggest events of the year" in New York. This star-studded concert, honoring the extraordinary relationship between fashion and music, will kick off New York's Fall Fashion Week at Radio City Music Hall. Ticket proceeds from the event will benefit Stand Up To Cancer, a campaign for cancer research. Performers will include Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, and Timbaland with special guest Lynyrd Skynyrd among others. Isn't Nicole supposed to be a "fashion icon"? One would think this would be right up her alley, if not for the music then for the fashion and for the free PR. Isn't Nic also (supposed to be) a champion for cancer research? If her husband is performing why isn't she there to support him and the causes? Don't even try to feed me the "She's preparing for a film role" excuse. Filming doesn't start for another few weeks. If she can move a coach into her home days after giving birth to her daughter to coach her in voice and dance in preparation for the movie, even before finishing work on Australia, she can leave for a few days, take her coach with her, and rehearse in the States when Keith isn't performing. It's called compromise. Such a shame Kidman doesn't understand the word or the concept. If she would open her eyes she could learn it from Keith. That's all he has done the entire time they have been together, put aside what he wants, needs, and is best for him and his career to do whatever the wife asks, or more likely, tells him to do.

Before you argue I can't prove that Nicole isn't in New York remember you can't prove she is. There has been very little media attention paid to her since she arrived in London. If she flew back to the States to support Keith I have no doubt pictures would be taken and released by every media outlet possible. Just like she did when they arrived in Australia with the baby for the first time. This would be the perfect photo opportunity for her, supporting a good cause, enjoying the fashions, and getting credit for supporting her husband for a change, but she is too focused on her movie and her career to see that. Why pay for advisers that you never listen to?

These appearances could have given Keith's career a very nice boost. If he had any concerts to sell tickets to. If he had any music less than two years old to promote. If he wasn't taking most of the rest of the year off to "spend with his family". I don't begrudge him time with his family. I just don't think he should have to sacrifice his career, and leave the country, to do it. Keith, learn a little selfishness from your wife and start doing what's good for your career - while you still have one. If you keep catering to the Mrs., who continues to make NO concessions for you personally or professionally, your career will be DOA before you know it.

From the Urban Myths Mailbag

Dear Urban Myths,

I have been involved with a fellow for almost four years. He is supposedly attractive and talented but I don't see it. I have tried so hard to keep him with me. I have given him fame, fortune and access to a life he only dreamed about. I even bought him a child to keep our family together. My problem is I am not sure I want to keep doing this but I like that I am keeping myself popular. What should I do?

Famously Fading

Dear FF,

You give a man fame and fortune, dinner with moguls and prime ministers, rides on private planes and big boats. Why are you doing this? To keep yourself popular? That's crazy. Aren't you happy? Is he happy?

If you build a life that is built on a foundation of things, money and a false sense of reality, when it collapses you have no one to blame but yourself. You can't buy another human being, even a fellow narcissist, because eventually fame, like every other kind of drug, you have to get a better stronger fix. What can you give him in the future? An aging facade and a failing career? He will move on, as you should expect, because you can't offer him anything. Even if he bought all of the things you were selling he will be susceptible to a younger, prettier, even more popular and wealthier vendor. Cut your losses and think about your future. That's the most important thing isn't it?

UM

Thank You For Your Support!

Looks like the Music Fest was enjoyed by all... err most.... I thought the protesters were going to stay home. Oh well, hopefully they didn't dampen your enthusiasm.

It also looks like we made the news! We found this photo on the AP wire... this one was from early Saturday. We'll see if we can find some more. Thanks for coming, we'll do it again soon!

Urban Myths Labor Day Music Festival - Encore

To the tune of If You Wanna Stay, Keith Urban

Go if you wanna go
stay if you wanna to stay
I don't care about you fans anyway
I don't need most of you and I feel you are just pains
So just go if you want to go
Stay if you want to stay

Scream if you want to scream
Be mean if you need to be
I never cared that much
Even if that is how it seemed
It doesn't matter anymore
Cuz I have taken all I can take
So just go if you wanna go
Stay if you wanna stay

Everytime I sigh
You think I am gonna die
You really don't matter to me
Except to my bottom line
So baby just go if you wanna go
Stay if you wanna stay

Every time you decide that you are gonna say goodbye
I have to do something to fool you so I get to play
So baby just go if you wanna go
Stay if you wanna stay
I can find a new audience anyway
I am as famous as I will ever be
So just go if you wanna go
Stay if you wanna stay
Just go

I got Nicole and the baby these days...

Urban Myths Music Festival - Final Day

Thank you so much for coming. We've had a wonderful time and look forward to getting together with you real soon. Our final day will start with a cover song.

In the Air Tonight, Phil Collins

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
And I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget
It's the first time and the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you don't fool me
Because the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air, I can feel it coming in the air
I've been waiting for this moment all my life, my life

I can feel it coming in the air, I can feel it coming in the air
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
I've been waiting for this moment all my life, my life
