Happy Birthday, Keith Urban

Happy Birthday! You haven't changed at all.
Still the same farm boy who had a dream.
Singing the uncomplicated nonsensical songs for which you are now known.
Living the easy life down on the farm.
With Baby Girl and the toddler gathered around.
Yeah, Happy Birthday, Mr. Urban!
On the cusp of another commercial success,
Life just keeps getting better doesn't it?
As credibility, history and most importantly, your fans... no longer matter.

...Yes.... happy birthday orb! Do you think this chart will come close to looking like this on Nov. 16?!

I didn't even realize his birthday was coming - that's how much I have blown off little things about him.

I hope he gets another framed painted heart from his wife - that's a gift every man wants, right?

Wonder if Sunday Rose knows what day it is? Geez, what I am thinking - it is Nicole Kidman's special day every day in the Kidman residence. It won't be about Keith today either!

I bet Keith would love anything his wife gets him. He loves her.

And you sound like an obsessed 12 year old fan. If a 40+ year-old man really loves getting heart art from his wife, then he is in a narcissistic relationship! She obviously gave him what she wants, not what he wants!

Hmm, I guess the skeptics aren't such bad people after all. Why is it okay for other people to trash other celebrities, but don't you DARE bash KUNK? I know, it is painful to accept that her album will walk all over Keith's in sales!

jennifer I totally dislike Tay Tay too having to have sat through her concert twice while waiting for Keith a few summers ago.
Underpants was terrible but to watch the sexual chemistry between her and Keith during that tour was worth her horrible show.
Miranda I adore.

The rumor about the deluxe apartment is interesting to say the least. I know Keith got some guff on Country Radio about the big purchase but he never cares what anyone thinks.

Using the image of a crack pipe on a Keith Urban blog is just rich.

Seriously, who cares if Taylor Swift sells more records than Keith Urban? They're both mega selling artists. If you don't like his music, find someone you do like. If you don't like Nicole Kidman, don't watch her movies. I don't understand your obsession with tearing them apart. You're not going to change anybody's mind.

I have to give a big kudos to the "Everybody loves Nicole Kidman" blog that is located on the blog list on here. Did anybody check out the latest blog on there? Very creative and very funny! Well done!

maclen said...

Ha! Yes...I KNEW that bringing in the swifty would get the monkey's "fangs" out!
So, the word on the street...the "virtual" street...swifty's cd may sell upwards of perhaps 800 to 900k cds it's first week...maybe even as much as 1 mil. Perhaps all just hype and speculation...and we'll just have to see how many she actually sells. But when your talking of sales in the higher brackets of 800 to 900k sales...the LOWER number is actually still a massive feat. She sells only just over 700k, she has the highest selling cd for this year. Now when I speak of orb's previous selling cd only selling 171k cds its first week, my question of whether his next cd CAN EVEN sell that many...IT IS pretty significant! When Ive been pointing out how orb's Youtube channel was pretty pathetic at getting his music those "eyes and views"...and when I pointed out that the other country musicians also have vevo channels, which gets them triple and quadruple views for their videos...it is not surprising that orb's "brain trust" FINALLY placed orb's new single onto vevo...the very SAME DAY I had pointed out orb ridiculously DID NOT have a vevo channel...IS pretty significant! I'm certainly NOT going to base my opinion on the gushing and fawning fansies who proclaim orb to be the most talented performer in the world...when they so shallowly and rather juvenile...are more impressed by his "frosted highlights" and "down to the navel open shirt" on the "artwork" of his new single...than in the posted lyrics of his new single! And as to 'not changing anyones mind"...clearly the minds of over 3 million previously paying customers orb has LOST in the past 5 years clearly got their minds changed...BY SOMETHING! Or more than likely...a few things! Landing in rehab 4 months AFTER getting hitched to a PR cardboard cutout and VERY significantly just as his new album dropped...is very significant...that his music seems to have descended into the teen angst platitudes of "driving your girl in your pickup, singing along to the radio as you park down by the lake holding each others hands" does not hold much for serious listeners of music you would want to be captivated...and most importantly, anticipating your music!

Yeah, it will be interesting to get these songs lyrics...as the already commented Long hot summer...that ode to The Police, the Greg Kihn Band...and to Don Henley...and ..."your dark skin shining in the sun" And also interesting to note how many songs orb will have written...without the gaggle of co writers orb clearly needs to sustain his productivity. His first single...needing 3...count em' 3 writers for that pittance! Am now for instance, watching swifty on Letterman...and she is of course constantly pushing that SHE wrote ALL 14 songs on her cd! I doubt if orb has even written 14 songs on his own....his entire career! (well, just checked...orb has written...14 songs on his own in his career!) Now as to the other song set to be released in the upcoming weeks..."without You" and "You gonna fly".... I seem to recall "Without you" is a song written by orb, all by himself...for his '91 album. And if it is a "cover" of his own 19 year old song...it would support my theory that orb was clearly rushed to get this cd out...necessitating orb recycling his own songs. And if it is simply a cover...it is no doubt a bone thrown to the orb's fansies, who clearly prefer orb's older music to his current "bubble gum pop." And "You gonna fly"..."YOU gonna fly?" Not even..."Ya gonna fly?" Very reminiscent of orb's "I could fly" from his 2004 cd Be Here...and aside from it's "grammatical awkwardness"...sounds like orb wants his OWN "hood pass!" Who was the co-writer of this song? T-pain? It is like part 1 and part 2...as in...I could fy...so..You gonna fly! As I mentioned...cant wait to get the lyrics! Stay tuned....

A440 said...

maclen, I harbored the same suspicions about "Without You," but it seems this is an entirely new song.

He had no hand in its writing.

Hatti said...

I don't believe he was even recognized on his birthday. You have to know someone is around to remember the special event. You don't go calling your employee at his home to say happy birthday. Really that is so beneath the likes of NK!! ((giggles)))

No presents either for what? To spend money on what? An employee? Do you realize how much that man has cost her since she decided to tie him up in a contract with her? Look at the money in advertising and CD promos besides greasing palms to get the guy some kind of award. All so NK can look like she is successful and married to a successful country bumpkin from the outback!! ((giggles))

Oh yes, and the wonderful ten year marriage with TC. Married in Dec, for the second time. EWS insued and divorced in Feb. With a stipulation that 150 mil pays for her to go away and never darken his doorstep again. ((giggles))) Heck she even left the kids!! Oh but that's right she gets family support monthly to stay away!! ;)

I wonder what it's going to cost HER to keep KU in tow or to get rid of him. Me thinks it will be her damnation!! ((giggles))))))

Well, A440...THATS So MUCH BETTER...isnt it? Its only recycling song titles! I am not aware of musicans recycling song titles...imagine, Springsteen recording ANOTHER song titled "BOrn to Run, and instead of recording the "love letter to a girl named Wendy" version...he recorded it again...about I dont know...running in the boston marathon!

"Re: Urbanalysis for Put You In A Song on the Billboard Chart

"Keith continues to outdo on Billboard, what he's posting on Mediabase, as he somehow parlayed that weak 0.47 mill MB gain into a still-not-great-but-at-least-not-embarrassing 0.826 mill gain. Thus, he was able to move up to 17.413 mill, and fend off the hard-charging Timmy. McGraw had a 2.37 mill gain, to finish at 16.875 mill. The two recurrents that I mentioned this morning, Kenny and Thompson, let PYIAS move up two spots, from #17 to #15, with Timmy nipping close behind at #16.

As I've said, if Timmy wants to make the pass, it's best if he does it immediately, and still gives Keith plenty of time to muster his power for a #1 attempt. But we don't want to see any more sub-1 mill gains, any time soon.

...and well, it seems Mcgraw DID pass the orb..

There is a growing frustration with these monkeys that country radio stations are JUST NOT playing orb's single enough...despite their constant call in request for orb's single. Seems to me the problem may be with capnash's stated "striped down approach" to orb's cd...they are no longer handing over that "payola" to the country stations to play orb's single? Or simply that orb's pittance of a song just isnt that strong?

maclen said...

So, an interesting development regarding orb's youtube videos. Well, besides orb's new vevo video posting of his single, Put you in a song, which is now coming up on 3 weeks of being posted on youtube...the video has now only 15,392 views. Now onto the interesting development. It seems when orb's "brain trust" had posted his single onto "vevo"...they had removed the video of the single from his regular "Youtube channel"... I didnt find it or see it there when I posted it's views a day ago. But now, a search on youtube reveals that the "youtube channel" video for his single...IS back! So now orb has the single on "vevo" video...AND ANOTHER video for the video at his "youtube" channel! I checked the other country musican's videos...it appears that they post their single's video on their "vevo" channel...and they post their misc. videos, you know, behind the scenes, or thank you's or what have you... on their youtube channels. Which makes logical sense...putting their videos for the singles on "vevo"...for as I mentioned before they get more views on "vevo!" BUT THEY DO NOT POST THE SAME VIDEO ON VEVO AND THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL! When you type in a video for a country act's "Offical video" they usually only get one result... But, clearly, orb NOW has TWO offical videos on youtube...one at "Vevo" and another one on his youtube channel! Yes, no doubt because his new single is apparently LOSING STEAM... his "brain trust" clearly and so desperately... have reposted the youtube video online again in a pathetic attempt to get more "eyes and views" for the video! Well, by the way, as I just mentioned, orb's vevo video for his single has 15k views...his original youtube video for this single now has 38k views...now that's pathetic! Clearly, orb's "brain trust" learned the PR video lesson way TOOOOOOO LATE!

maclen said...

In this edtion of "Insomniac Theater 3000: orb Edition"...

...so tonight's question is...what...or who is "Hit Red Records?" If you'll notice at orb's vevo posted video at youtube...and the itunes posting of his new single...you will see this...

(c) 2010 Hit Red Records under exclusive license to Capitol Records Nashville

Could it actually be... that orb HAS STARTED HIS OWN RECORDING LABEL?! I looked up "Hit Red Records" and came up with...zilch...nada...niente. When I heard the rumor that orb was possibly through at capnash...I naturally assumed he would sign with another established label...which again, would be the norm. And if it is true this is orb's own new label...my reaction would be...how utterly ASININE! Orb is NOT successful enough...popular enough and certainly not shrewd enough to run a successful recording label...simply even for himself...let alone possibly for anyone else! Now if it is true...as I said I havent been able to get ANY INFO on this presumed label...it WOULD explain a few things. Such as, the recent appearence of mutt on the cover of his new cd...the complete dedication to her of the album...mutt no doubt WOULD make the more than expected bankroller for this presumed new label for orb's. So if this is true...that it is the new label of orb's...then my hats off to the other mythbusters on this blog... who DID call this exact possibility! I for one DID NOT expect that...at all! For in my clearly deduced analysis...orb could NOT BE THAT STUPID! But on the other hand, I would NOT be at all surprised if it did in fact turn out to be true. Orb has constantly...again and again, shown to be utterly clueless as to how to maximize his opportunities. My previous comment just one of those examples! So, we will just have to wait and see what is the deal...

Billboard is predicting that Taylor could sell one million CDs this week. I'm not holding my breath that Keith will do the same. If the music sales are so awful (the Monkeys' excuse for Keith's poor sales), then how is Taylor selling a million in the first week?

select option 2 "search marks"

next page - search term field - type in "hit red records"
next page - click on links to reveal who registered the name

for the other related search do this:

select link for Business Name Availability
in the search name field - type in "guitar monkey entertainment"
click search
next page click on link for control#
next page click on registered agent tab

good grief--it took me less than 5 minutes to find it and 20 mins to copy links and explain it but didn't want you guys to be frustrated, hence all the details. then i look down and have 5% battery remaining on my laptop. i was like oh sh!t.

Far East Movement, Taylor Swift make strides on the Billboard Hot 100

"And Taylor Swift just keeps setting records on the chart. “Mean,” from “Spean Now,” debuts at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it three weeks in a row that Swifty has claimed Hot Shot Debut honors. No one else has ever done that before (it will be interesting to see if we see more superstars deploying her set up of releasing one track a week to iTunes a few weeks before that album’s release).

...yes it would be! And one example is flashing right in front of your eyes! And also interestingly, the monkeys over at the "urbananalysis on billboard" thread at monkeyville are just this morning admitting that swifty's current success may be a reason why their "keithy's" single has stalled. Do you think? As much as the monkey's HATE when I compare orb to swifty...it is partly because swifty is clearly...doing everything RIGHT...orb has done for basically the past 4 years...the exact WRONG things! And as I first started comparing orb to swifty back when he released his obvious attempt to "co-opt" the teen and tween set clearly being dominated by swifty...to MASSIVE SUCCESS...with his "poppy" Love pain and Crazy cd...orb's descent into his current "bubble gum pop has been GLARING! Now, just as orb's brain trust is ONLY NOW trying to catch up with the "eyes and views" on youtube...the ridiculously desperate posting of TWO SEPERATE OFFICIAL VIDEOS on both his youtube and vevo channels...and orb now trying to emulate swifty's impeccible PR campaigns...shows how so "out of touch" orb's "brain trust" has been for soooo long! Now that will be fun. :D How many of you think that those songs would make it to radio(any radio).

Well, Guitar Center may be the sponsor of the contest...but based on the info posted by F.I.N.E regarding Guitar Monkey Entertainment, Inc,... of which orb's "possible" new label "Hit Red Records" is a division of...I found this PDF. file of that contest's rules...

s1.ourstage.com/lgmedia/guitarcenter/artistrules.pdf

...it states on page 4...

"In order to accept the Grand Prize
and be deemed a “winner”, potential winning Entrant will be required to execute separate agreements
with
the Demo CD producer (“Producer Agreement”) and Hit Red Records, a division of Guitar Monkey
Entertainment, Inc.
f/s/o Keith Urban for his Single performance (“Wavier of Exclusivity Agreement”),
such agreements will be provided to potential winner upon notification."

Now, realistically, how likely is it that orb is actually gonna find a serious talent to perhaps sign to this possible new orb label with this contest? I say not bloody likely! But, I think clearly this can be an indication of where orb's head is probably moving...he's got dellusions of "music mogul" granduer dancing in his head!

"maclen is there any predictions on how "Get Closer" will sell in the first week yet? I say nothing more that $50,000 the first week."

Yes, actually rememberwhen, I've already made my prediction a few threads ago! I boldly predicted, based on my patented "Declination Theory...hilariously confirmed by the RIAA very "generously" certifying orb last cd, Defying Sales, platinum a few weeks ago. Basically, for the orb selling about 890k cds...and for capnash "shipping" out 100k cd to retail outlets! But I so "generously" accepted the cert of platinum by the RIAA, for it validated by aforementioned "Declination Theory"...because last year... the week after orb's Defying Sales only sold 171k cds...which was half of his previous cd's first week sales...I predicted orb would be lucky to sell one million! And his previous cd, LOve Pain had sold 2 mil. So I boldly predicted a few weeks ago that orb new cd would only sell about half. So again, orb's cd last year sold 171k cds in it's first week...so that would be in the neighorhood of about 80k to 90k cds. Now of course, theories not being competely infallable, I would even say that LESS than 100k cds sold would be an embarrassement. Though in my mind orb selling more than my prediction in the first week would not yet prove my theory wrong. As I mentioned in my previous prediction comment, check back in in about a year's time to see if my theory turns out to be true!

Yeah, even with the bad sound of that video, F.I.N.E, the great "tunesmith" of that song shines through. As to swifty, sure she has many flaws for which she is criticized, you know, terrible live singer...but what she obviously continues to reveal is that she does have upcoming potential! Orb is a rather cliched and rudementary songwriter...which is why he writes with SO MANY co-writers. But what I would say about swifty...her songwriting abilities are certainly very strong even at her young age...and as to the terrible "live' voice...swifty CAN continue to get better at it, in time and practice...while orb at his later stage...you either HAVE IT...or you dont in regards to having a natural and effortless knack for writing and creating a song. And in orb's case...I dont see potential for much improvement!

Yes Fading Fan, the fact that kidman IS on the cd cover would clearly point to that, right?

"Wasn't it "Golden Handcuffs"?

Ha! To the monkeys...more like "Golden Idol' hoosier...ie: as in "the children of Israel" in Exodus! Definately NOT buying the hack friedman's mouth fed leak of orb being "happy to be free" from capnash. More than likely, as Ive postulated, capnash was not willing to meet orb's demands to remain on the label. Now, as to a reason why capnash would now be simply distributing orb's album, simply under license from orb...as I've previously postulated...most likely having had a hugely successful cd with Be here in 2004 selling 4 mil cds...orb was surely in the more commanding role of demanding terms ...and perks... for capnash to keep orb at the label. But with subsequent developements, ie: orb's cds sale being mediocre and dwindling since then...capnash was not so inclined to offer orb any sweet deals to re-sign, and capnash is simply fulfilling an option from the past..."sweeter" deal orb was able to get. You know, like..."if as the 3rd album in this primo contract for me...looks like it wont be a decent performer for the label, and you will no longer provide the M&Ms and pickled pigs feet served on a silver plater in the studio as I work...and you are clearly not going to continue that royal treatment in our next contract...I will simply opt to make the album myself and you will simply distribute it under license from me...and I will put it out to press that I AM SO HAPPY to just be free!" There is absolutely no rhyme or reason why orb would actually consider going on his own, with no major label backing him...VOLUNTARILY! It must be simply because of necessity. And just as surely, if this is true, this may also simply be a temporary situation until he can aquire another deal at another label.

With all of this extreme sucking up he had been doing, prime example, another album all about her, I would definitely say that Nic is funding this new label. There is a lot of money exchanged up front when signing record deals, and I don't think Keith has that kind of money to fund a business like this.

I also think CapNash did not like the music he was putting out, and knew it was in their best interest to let him go out on his own. I hope they told him to not let the door him in the a$$. If he isn't exactly country anymore, and too old for pop, who will go with this label?

for HER maybe. doubt it's for him. i suspect he validates himself by pleasing HER.

i would imagine pleasing NICK is more than a full time job--he is very busy keeping HER content! SHE has become his main focus since exiting rehab. he wouldn't want to live without HER per his dedication so he obviously doesn't care about himself. i bet he lives day to day on a roller coaster ride of how SHE treats him in relationship to how he can meet up to HER expectations.

remember how SHE talked to tom in the phone conversation. and that was just a small peak at HER expectations.

obviously, tom didn't see that a normal and happy life was waiting on the outside until he broke away from HER which explains why tom was smiling ear to ear and jumping on Oprahs couch. just think he could still be trapped in that great textbook marriage with HER if he had followed NICK'S orders for counseling. and he would have never found his true match.

I tend to agree with this, (again) because every goober, gomer and doofus, writing, recording and putting their own stuff out their now, what would be the point? Without major label backing, what sets this one apart? I didn't get it yesterday, and I still don't get it today. "Finally, there is a concept called cross-collateralization. Let's say a band's first album does well, but not well enough to recover all the recoupable costs, charge-backs, etc. For example:

* The record company sells 300,000 CDs and makes $3 million.
* The band gets a 10% royalty.
* The recoupable expenses total $500,000.

So the band "makes" $300,000, but that money doesn't cover all the recoupable expenses. So the band is now $200,000 in the hole. The band does not get a check, but the label probably cleared $2 million from the album. So the record company exercises the first option. The band creates a new album. The income from the second album will have to cover all the remaining costs from the first album ($200,000) and then all of the new costs for the second album before the band sees any money."

...so basically if the "recoupable expenses"...costs that capnash was paying for orbs cds...recording expenses, paying session musicians, PR expenses etc...if those costs ARE MORE than the royalties orb made off the cd, orb DOES NOT GET PAID THOSE ROYALTIES...and also, OWES the label the difference...so orb MAY in fact be in debt to capnash! As I also mentioned, it is also NOT unheard of for another recording label, if they are very interested in a musican...and want to sign him badly enough, would offer to "pay off" the musicians debts. But as I constantly mention, orb's recent cd sales ARE NOT THAT GREAT...and I dont see any label willing to pay them off just to sign the orb!

You're right rememberwhen, I describe that as being like a political election. You know, the rascal flatts fans will buy their album and orb's fans will buy his album...and the big question will be, which cd will the regular country listening fans buy? That's why my pointing out orb's terrible videos and his last place views on youtube may come into play! Plus all this talk of how capnash is simply "distributing" his cd, and may not be going "whole hog"...and only doing "striped down promotion" for it may also hurt it's sales. It's looks like the first single, "Put you in a song" may already be stalling on the monkey's very coveted country singles charts! More on that later! Many dynamics to consider here, rememberwhen!

Keith seems to be the most animated and involved when he is talking about driving, his cars and touring- all things that involve himself and being away or in motion.

Thank you for all your interesting information. I am not very knowledgeable about the inner workings of this industry. I do know a little bit about human nature. And Kidman's nature is to always look successful even when she is falling on her face. Facade is everything. So I will take a wild stab here and say, she is draining her pocketbook trying to keep the appearance she contrived as the Aussie Power Couple. This is very humorous!! The more she spends the more he opens the drain. If this keeps up she is going to be the broke ass NC Lainey was talking about!! ((giggles)))))

If KU thinks he can make a record label successful tethered to her cavernous? He is delusional! Anything attached to her will fail. He should know that by now. And she should know it also. They were doomed from the start. But of course the general public are really not gullable. This was played as a real relationship and acted out as the odd couple. He continues to make it so odd it is totally unbelievable. He's a smart cookie keeping the curtains open!! Very few have ever thought this was anything more than Kidman's PR package thanks to KU's canned messages!! :D I've always called it as I see it. As The Worm Turns!! ((giggles))))

Well hoosier, I figured out LONG ago, that the new orb/mutt fansies, either new or just the old fansies who come here...with different usernames...simply want to "Bait" the mythbusters here into those personal quibbles...to, as Urban Myths put it, take the eye off the main topic. "maclen, I say the Independents will go for Rascal Flats."

Well, I recall a comment I read over at monkeyland, that Sugarland, Rascal Flatts and orb all have cds coming out. And they reckoned that they would each sell "about 200,000 cds each IN ITS FIRST WEEK." So I looked into that...Sugarland's cd already came out on the 19th of this month...and it did sell 208k cds...BUT their previous cd HAD sold 313k cds in its first week! Now Rascal flatts and orb's cds come out on Nov 16..and Rascal Flatts' previous cd had sold 351k cds its first week ...while orb's previous cd had only sold 171k cds its first week! So, you see the pattern right? Sugarland and Rascal Flatts previous cd's both sold over 300k cds...so it's perfectly reasonable to assume they would now sell slightly less than that, and at the 200k count...AND sugarland DID just sell 200k cds... But orb... previously sold only 171k cds...so how can you reckon his new cd will sell aboout 200k cds? I for one dont see that!

HA! I know what you mean F.I.N.E, when I first heard orbs' song, I thought it sounded alot like The Police's "Dont stand so close to me"...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvfb8GcKAWs

Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police

...after the lengthy intro...when Sting begins to sing, "Young teacher, the subject of school girl fanstasy"... sounds like the exact melody of the start of Long hot summer! And I also got a feel of Greg Kihn's "The Breakup Song"...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLFfSDEA26o

The Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song

...where at 2 min 54 sec of orb's song, he even sings the kihn song's patented "UH UH UH, UH UH, UH UH UH" And add to that, the stolen lyric I think Tara noticed..."I can see your brown skin shining (shimmering) in the sun" from Don Henley's 1984 song "Boys of Summer" But it wasnt surprising when I later realized that orb "co-wrote" his song with 80's one hit wonder Ricard Marx...as the Police's song came out in 1980...and Kihn's came out in 1981! Orb's music is just SOOOO derivative...it seems he and Marx simply plundered the 80's sound for their song! I also thought that orb's previous song, "Til summer comes around" was a rip off of Bread's "Guitar Man"...

...ah..perfect, courtesy of monkeyland...a few choice lyrics to orb next "preview" offering on itunes...

Without you

I loved you since the very first day,
When I caught you looking my way,
A smile and just knew it

And up until you came along,
No one ever heard my song,
Now it’s climbing with a bullet

(Ha! "Perfect love" reduced to his jingles movement on the country charts! Ironic...as his first single seems to be stalling on the charts!)

Along comes a baby girl
And suddenly my little world just got a whole lot bigger, yes it did
And people that I barely knew
Who love me cause I’m part of you
Man it’s tough to figure
How two souls could be, miles from one another,
But still you and me somehow found each other

(Here now, the sole reason orb plucked this little ditty...it contains "baby girl!")

The travelling, the singing, it don’t mean nothing without you.
The fast cars, the guitars, they are all just second to
This life this love that you and I have been building up so high
It’s never going to touch the sky without you

(So again, cars...with guitars...the only thing missing is "singing to the radio"..."

So apparently, this "DEEP HEARTED ODE TO HIS LOVE" does not actually come from the orb's OWN heart...he as I mentioned, plucked it from others emotional inspiration...but it does share orb's tendency for mundane lyrics...

It’s nice to have someone, so honestly devoted,
But when it’s said and done, girl I hope you know that

Wont exactly make it into any edition of memorable or inspired lyrics! I'm only wondering if orb is gonna let this song "breath"...you know...add in a few "caesuras!" A little profound and heartfelt introspection would seem apropo at this juncture...rather than ANOTHER catchy little toe tapper!

Yes, Hatti many commenters here have very strong and passionate opinions of orb's rather baffling career moves! And all I'm basically doing is highlighting those baffling career moves!

maclen said...

So, in this edition of "Insomniac Theater 3000: orb Edition"...

...and speaking of "baffling career" moves...an update on the monkeys chronicling of orb's new single on the Billboard country chart. Seems orb's "spins" have been pretty irratic... causing much frustration and stress to the monkeys following the single on their thread, "Urbananalysis for Put you in a song on the Billboard Chart" and the last comment makes not of tim mcgraw's new single..."Felt Good on My Lips"

http://www.keithurban.net/forum/index.php?topic=40815.780

"On another note.....TM's new song does not make sense to me, it is all over the place. Oh well."

...for it seems, according to the monkeys' "Urbananalyst" that Mcgraw's single will jump over orb's single on the chart, as orb will remain at #15 another week...as his "spins" are already averaging lower gains. Of course, the monkey's think mcgraw's new single is ""all over the place" and the "urbananalyst" didnt believe mcgraw would be any trouble to orb. But apparently he is.

...to be continued...

maclen said...

...being continued...

And that brings me back to the topic of Youtube as a media tool for musicians to PR their music. Now orb's Youtube channel and his video views lags well behind the main country acts...orb's video for his new single is, to say the least, simply the least expensive mix of clips of video of orb recording and just goofing off in the studio...I joked his assistance simply mixed the video on his "ibook" using old video tape cassettes! But there is a dynamic that shows up on youtube video single promo between orb and mcgraw that MAY explain why mcgraw's single was able to catch...and then pass orb's on the country chart. As mentioned, orb's new video for his single, "Put you in a song" now has only 44,788 views in about 4 weeks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAO6Ppzoe50

...and mcgraw, who's video for his single, "Felt good on my lips" ISNT even posted on his Youtube channel...and the most views on a fanmade video of his single now has 299,923 views in only about 5 and a half weeks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRK4-Z7xxnU

...so clearly, it would NOT be too difficult to perhaps understand why mcgraw's single has caught and passed orb's single on the chart! Mcgraw's singles has the strength of more "eyes and views" on his single than on orb's! And as it is, the fansie's "Urbanalyst" doenst beleive a video for a single makes much difference to a songs performance on the chart...as the orb is an "established star" and doesnt need a video. Obviously, these monkeys just cant...or simply refuse to see that it may be a hindrence NOT to always have a video on the tubes...or in a timely matter...although this time...the orb did have a video ready...but that WAS rare! As I've commented before...it is NOT a co-incidence that swifty and underwood...the two who have the most "eyes and views" on their pretty elaborate videos on their youtube channels...ARE ALSO the two performers who are recently selling the MOST CDs! Which again, I submit IS the reason orb has a video ready...albeit, a rather cheaply made and VERY uninteresting video...AND placed it NOT JUST on his Youtube official channel...but also now on a newly accounted Vevo video, which I made a point of highlighting on this blog...and the orb's "brain trust" having placed it on vevo the very same day...because, you know, they get more "eyes and views" on vevo...DUH! THAT IS IMPORTANT. But to the monkeys, orb's singles performance on the Billboard country chart IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO THEM...they believe that they can "call in and request" every orb single to #1. So what happens if orb's first single off this new album CANNOT reach #1? And it perhaps fizzles early and never even gets close? Now that would be a true indication, in the last term the monkeys have for orb STILL being an "Elite" country star...and it would be a difficult realization for them to come to that even they, his seemingly "dwindling" fanbase, cannot even give him that any longer!

Choice thanks for bringing up Keith's birthday which is the topic of this thread. Kidman was supposedly in China last week schilling watches for Omega-
that would mean she missed Keith's birthday- funny isn't it the one he worships can't even be bothered to be with him on his day.

maclen, thank you again for some interesting reading.

So KU knows pretty much how his add ons will do since most of those are on videos. He knows how many hits they got in ratio to his fans. OK, but all and all he personally sunk the video before it got off the floor. First he said the CD was inspired by Kidman, now that is a no brainer people are going to judge every song on that CD as written or sung for her. Second, voting on the cover well that wasn't any rocket science we all knew the cover that we thought was just him would win by miles!!!

So to sum this up I get the message that he wants her to see that she is not going anywhere with his career. His fans and some of hers want nothing about her mixed into his music. Are we saying if these fans had to choose they would follow him over her any day of the week. Again a no brainer.

If he wants to sink his career and her's then this is the best path that they could be on. If they continue this charade neither will have a career and his label? Well that will be a very very expensive lesson!! Now that is what I have learned so far. Is this an astute summation??

I was waiting for that to happen with the last CD. When it happens this time, will the monkeys fly? There has to be a point where they eventually realize their beloved, is, well, coming up a little short, no pun intended?, and needs to re-direct his passion back or find a new way to use his talents.

Just my mumblings.

maclen, that is how I feel. I don't see Keith's CD selling anything close to what DG sold in it's first week. DG was Keith's worst selling CD in the first week. Get Closer will top that with no problem. I mean if the first single can't even go past 15, it is bad. That is supposed to be the best song out of all the songs on the CD. It is in big trouble before it is even put out there.

maclen said...

Yeah, Hatti I would say that is my summation and pretty much agree with you. Although I think you give orb more credit than I do on his "consious" effort that "he wants her to see that she is not going anywhere with his career." I simply believe he gave up one addiction for another. And if as I believe, this new cd will be his worst performer...I dont believe he will let go of pushing his self proclaimed "marital bliss" to his dwindling fanbase!

Of course you know hoosier, that personally I am not very impressed by the "spins and requests" country charts or for the #1 hits...personally I actually beleive it is JUST TOO open for "payola!" and label insider influence. But after offering MY interpretation of orb's situation...I just thought it would be interesting to note the monkey's OWN interpretation of the single's performance! For it is the monkey's who followed the orb's previous singles on the charts...who are now wailing that orb's single is already showing signs of struggling on the charts! And of course, they are more than willing to look to OUTSIDE reasons for it...instead of looking to orb...as to them orb's song is the "most wonderful song ever released!" Of course, the main reason is swifty's current domination of cd sales and her current chart topping! Although Tim mcgraws current surge past orb is just "baffling" to the monkeys...because to them orb's song is WAYYY better than mcgraw's so it is just baffling. I think the monkey's problem is they just cant fathom that mcgraw my just have a more passionate following than the orb...or simply stated...just more fans!

Clearly, rememberwhen, if orb IS out at capnash, there is no riper situation that this IS just a throw away album. It's like, "Let's just get this thing over with and lets move on with something else!" Well, I just noticed that wiki now has most of the writers credit for the TRUE original 8 song album. orb co-wrote at least 5 songs...not too impressive when swifty is currently talking up the fact that SHE wrote ALL 14 songs on her cd at every appearence she makes! With the only sole writer's credit on orb's cd being....Dave Pahanish! Just doesnt impress me that the orb NEEDS help to write what he claims is HIS ode to his "eternal love!" Lets face it, "Without you" ISNT orb's lovesong to mutt, it's Pahanish lovesong to HIS girlfriend, wife or whatever!

"I am OBSESSED. It's all I can do to peel myself out of the car to go carry on with the business of life. I will drive around the block 5 times, singing along and dancing like an idiot to this CD, until I think I can go another hour without listening to it. On one hand, it inspires me and give me ideas for my own songs that I may write in the future....and on the other hand, I feel like I can never and SHOULD never write another song again, because the best songs have already been written and here they are! Dave Pahanish! And it's not like I'm jealous or anything...in that moment, I'm too caught up in LOVING this music."

I believe orb simply decided to cover the song because it had the lyric "baby girl"...

Re: Urbanalysis for Put You In A Song on the Billboard Chart
« Reply #810 on: Today at 09:28:28 PM »

I thought this could be coming, and it did. If you recall last week (or can check back to my comments last Monday), Keith had a 0.47 mill gain on Mediabase, but was able to parlay that into a much larger Billboard gain, 0.826 mill, on last week's BB chart." "So after mentioning the 1.1 mill gain on Mediabase for Keith this morning, it shouldn't be a surprise to see only a 0.416 mill gain for PYIAS on this week's Billboard chart. That only moved Keith up to 17.829 mill (instead of the 18.4 that I guessed this morning). Timmy of course passed on by, with a 1.905 mil burst, to reach 18.779 mill. He moved from #16 to #14, taking the slot opened up by Josh Turner's recurrency.

The major consequence, of that small gain of Keith's, was that Trace Adkins was able to squeak on by. He had a 1.035 mill gain, in line with what Mediabase was hinting at, and reached 17.895. That was over PYIAS's total by a scant 0.066 mill (or about 10 spins of either song). So Trace got that #15 slot, and Keith has to suffer the ignomity of "backward bulleting" from #15 back to #16.

Now, not to be "turning the knife" on these "urbananalysts"...I myself make alot of predictions that dont ALWAYS turn out to be true...but then, my mistakes arent "heartbreaking" to me as I figure it is to the monkeys. But then my main point is to try to highlight the "BIG PICTURE." And my observation is simply that orb is in decline. Now another "urbananalyst" on this thread posted this in reponse...

Billboard replied...
"I'm not worried about Trace Adkins. Either PYIAS is going to perform, or it isn't. If it starts gaining 2 or 2.5 or 3 million a week -- I'd happily take a 2 mill average but I'd prefer 2.5 then Trace isn't going to be in the picture. Even Timmy can't keep with PYIAS if the song performs. What I'm worried about is -- I can see no reason for this song to stay slow. It needs to start moving now."

I recall this "urbananalyst" stating before that he/she "wasnt worried about Tim Mcgraw possibly passing orb on the chart...but THAT DID happen! So, clearly I see ALOT of wishful thinking on the part of the monkeys. That has been my assessment for the past 3 years!

Is he really stupid or something? The only thing the song has going for it is that it sounds country, but I bet after Keith and his wife got done with it in the studio, it is now pop rock.

Urban has put enough out there about this CD is all about his Savior, St Nic of the Cornstalks, that even the most die hard fans will drop this CD into the toilet. I have no hope for this record to become nothing more than a coaster for a Dr. Pepper. Whatever creativity this man had is definately gone forever. If this is inspiration then she must be awful to live with. If he does indeed love her (which I don't believe for a second) then pick another line of work because I don't want to hear anymore of this fluff.

He can't do pop rock. It is annoying on his behalf. I heard Better Half this morning. That was a great piece of work. This latest effort was a rush deal. No thought process, just a bunch of fairy dust. He is too old to play in the pop rock genre and it is quite unbecoming. If he comes to his senses, it may be too late.

obxgirlpa (48 minutes ago)

Light years from the first two offerings. THIS is the Keith I've come to know and love. What a great song. Keith shouldn't be afraid to record more songs penned by someone else. He has the ability to write well but sometimes an artist can just get stuck in the same old groove.

Yes...ONLY a fansie can make such contradicting statements in the same paragraph: "He is a great songwriter...BUT...he should do OTHER PEOPLES GREAT songs more...cause that is what I LOVE about him, THIS SONG...(written by SOMEONE ELSE) is "light years from the first two... ORB co-written songs!"

Boy, that is SOME endorsment...from a fansie yet! Imagine the typical country fan's reaction to the bubble gum pop and bland covers.

to wit...

honesthua (4 hours ago)

Great, heartfelt country song! This is much better than Long Hot Summer which in my opinion, sounds plain by his standards.."

...so, Long Hot Summer is plain by THIS songs standards? "Long Hot Summer" SOUNDS like a plain version of SEVERAL different 80's songs mashed together. Seems some fansies werent too inpressed by the first single and the second song released. Perhaps orb can make a comeback simply releasing an album of covers...of "great" songs...as long as orb doesnt co-write them!

blue sky said...

Who is he kidding? Another line in the song that makes him look like a complete idiot - something about the best cars and guitars are nothing without you. When did he start driving Bentleys, vintage Mustangs, Aston Martins, and chauffeured Mercedes? We can't forget the yachts now either! What about the glittery, lights guitar or the guitar they out-bid each other? That all came with her! What do you think he would pick first - being a poor boy again and living in the poor house with his Nic or driving around in a vintage Mustang?

Anyone who hears this song and doesn't know his music will consider who he is married to and either think he is a) a gold-digger or b) pussy-whipped!

Actually Maclen Emily West gve Keith, Dave's CD not Sarah Buxton.

"Without You" was first recorded by songwriter Dave Pahanish on his recently released self-titled album. He's also the writer of Jimmy Wayne's hits "Do You Believe Me Now," "I Will" and Toby Keith's "American Ride." Keith Urban recorded "Without You" after Emily West gave him a copy of the songwriter's new album which featured the song. Keith called the next day and asked to record "Without You".

FWIW it's gotta help to sell 1 million when you can get Taylor's new cd at Amazon for $3.99 with a $3.00 MP3 download credit. Heck, if I liked her just a little bit, I might buy her cd for .99 cents. She's practically giving it away. Since most in her target audience will be downloading it, I'm sure that's how most got it. Along with anyone who kind of likes her but was buying something else at Amazon and saw the deal they could get. Of course they would get hers to, for .99 cents.

No wonder why people around him thought this song was perfect for him.

HA! HA! Just an observation....(SOCKPUPPETS...*cough* *cough*) OH....swifty over-performed cd sales estimates...THAT'S WHY "PEAT" and "REPEAT" reappeared! So, as swifty's cd has surpassed the million mark...orb's single is now...going backwards on the charts! Not much for the monkeys to be too jazzed over huh? No doubt even more of them will acually be vomiting over the cd by the time the 4th "mutt laced" song gets released! The Facebook fansies are probably just getting fed up...what with the whole "photoshopped cd cover" charade. As I highlighted at the time...over 20,000 "LIKED" the solo orb version...and then about 14,000 of those.... DIDNT "LIKE" the eventual "bait and switch" photo with the snoring mutt. Flat out, Hatti, orb is NOT a very good songwriter. He seems to need ALOT of help to come up with songs. His first single needed 3...count em 3, songwriters...for one verse and the chorus simply repeated 3 times! The last 5 or 6 songs he's written on his own, I sampled lyrics to them on a comment...not very impressive. I more recently backtracked his album's writing credits...and found that orb has only written 14 songs by himself...in his entire career...and that goes back 19 years to 1991! He NEEDS someone else to give him his most meaningful words and music !

Keith Urban - Everybody

...the pattern is exactly the same...the start of each song by "milli and vanilli" here...is a complete lift off of other peoples songs...."Long hot summer" is The Police's "Dont stand so close to me", "Better Life" is The Bee Gees' "Jive Talking"...and "Everybody" is Cindy Lauper's "True Colors" Blimey...never knew marx was such a fraken musical plagiarist...or it simply could be that when he gets together with the "empty vessel" that is orb...he needs to resort to nicking other peoples melodies to write a song!

So, just for laughs...here's just one more example of marx's "music plariarism"...

Pretty much, Hatti, WHOEVER has the money can get sued. Usually, it's either songwriters who believe their writings have been ripped off, or the publishing rights holders of a song...looking to get a paycheck are the ones who sue! My take...orb's and marx's filler music is just too lowkey to get sued...who would bother? I mean, it's the only clear reason marx hasnt been sued yet. Funny, in an ironic twist, seems marx's "now and forever" was a song downloaded by a fan, who was then sued by the RIAA and Capitol...for illegal downloading...and when the case went against...of course...the downloading fan, marx actually criticised the ruling...

http://www.p2pnet.net/story/23796

You got a raw deal: Richard Marx to Jammie Thomas

"According to Vivendi Universal (France), Sony (Japan), EMI (Britain), and Warner Music (US, kind of), Jammie Thomas-Rasset owes $80,000, for a total of $1.92 million, for a play list of 24 songs. Among the tunes listed in the RIAA vs Jammie Thomas-Rasset copyright infringemnent case is Richard Marx’s ‘Now and for ever,’ on EMI’s Capitol label.
"But, “As a longtime professional songwriter, I have always objected to the practice of illegal downloading of music,” Marx says in a statement quoted by Ars Technica.
I have also always, however, been sympathetic to the average music fan, who has been consistently financially abused by the greedy actions of major labels,” he says,"

Ha! So I assume...marx WAS NOT signed to Capitol when he made that statement!
So, another reason is, with the help of the RIAA, the music companys are now more concerned with fansies "illegally downloading" music...than in their "recording artists" infringing on other "recording artists!" All that money goes to the music companys anyways...so go after the "fans" now! And of course, we know the orb's opinion on illegal downloading..."go ahead and do it...I dont care!" HA!

Almost as if by MAGIC...or more likely..."ON CUE!" Seems that no doubt, the monkeys rash of frantic emails to capnash, had the company finally let loose with that little "payola" to the radio stations!
