HEY doublewide...long time no see! Good you hear from you again!
Yes, I recall that day, got up to get ready for work... turned on the tv to see that the first plane had hit a building...when I returned after getting dressed...saw the second plane hit live as it happened. For us...a tragedy not experienced since probably Pearl harbor in '41. But the cynic in me must also highlight that the ruling elite...of BOTH political parties...have taken advantage of the tragedy to basically turn the country into a spiraling "police state"...well on it's way to circumventing the Constitution, railroading the rule of law and basically negating our Bill of Rights...all in the supposed name of keeping us safe from the evergrowing ... ever powerful...and forever unending "bad guys"....

...end of rant...

Yeah, Ive heard that about life...reminds me of that quote, "Life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans." As for the orb, I'm basically reduced to chronicling his decline. There seems to be concrete evidence of it in every aspect of his career. His cd sales continue to be down...he's out at Capnash...and now his tour attendence is down from 2009. Not much positive in his career for the fansies to cheer about.

So, back to the numbers watch...orb's cd stock numbers...

http://www.roughstock.com/blog/september-14-2011-chart-news-george-strait-still-king-#comments

Jason Aldean My Kinda Party 24,348 1,814,774

Zac Brown Band You Get What You Give 10,573 1,174,673

Taylor Swift Speak Now 9,868 3,652,471

The Band Perry The Band Perry 11,572 751,554

Kenny Chesney Hemingway's Whiskey 6,515 944,493

Lady Anthebellum Need You Now
9,804 3,644,592

Rascal Flatts Nothing Like This 5,554 964,484

Sugarland The Incredible Machine ???

orb Get Closer 2,437 639,491

...so orb's numbers continue to drop...down 100 cds from last week...down 300 the previous week. An interesting note about this week's list of country cd sales...previously ONLY the top 25 country sales were included...but because a orb fansie keeps commenting on this page wanting to know orb's sales numbers EVERYTIME orb DIDNT make the top 25 list...the author of this article NOW includes #26 to #30. Which is where orb is NOW on sales...NUMBER 30 on sales. That's 29 country acts that are outselling the orb...some who released their albums AFTER orb...BUT I would quess MOST who released their cd on the same day...as did the Flatts...or even months if not years before orb's cd came out...and who are still outselling the orb...such as Lady ant who released their album 10 months prior to orb...and are still selling over 4 times as many cds as orb! So for an update...orb's Canadian opening act, the band perry have now sold 112k more cds than orb...and their cd came out a month prior to orb's...and the Flatts have now sold 325k more cds than the same day released cd of orb's!

maclen said...

So now, on to orb's touring numbers...and the NOT too surprising results... from pollstar...

http://www.cnbc.com/id/44538118

Aug 19
17. (New) Keith Urban; $440,658; $54.57.

Aug 26
15. (17) Keith Urban; $454,988; $53.61.

Sept 1
16. (15) Keith Urban; $432,768; $53.03.

Sept. 8
15. (16) Keith Urban; $432,768; $53.03.

Sept 15
19. (15) Keith Urban; $414,439; $52.63.

...so orb's per average gross drops $18,329 from the previous week for a total of $414k...his LOWEST YET...his average ticket price drops from $53 to $52...his LOWEST YET... as he drops from #15 to #19...again, his lowest rating since appearing on the Pollstar top 20. And crunching those numbers orb's average audience the previous week was 7,874 which is also down from his at least 8,000 the 3 previous weeks. I suppose next week will tell if his 10 day break is the reason, or will his numbers rebound slightly. And again, the difference will no doubt be minimal...perhaps he can manage a 500k gross week? Now also take into account, as of today Sept 15...the orb's last gig is on Oct 15...exactly one month away...or only 4 weeks. Exactly HOW MUCH can orb HOPE to regain in audience and gross in that short period of time? IF orb's current numbers remain steady at the $414k a week...in 4 weeks orb will gross only one and a half million dollars! And again...as the numbers have basically played out... I would speculate again orb's tour will gross in the neighborhood or 28mil to 32 mil.

Just wanted to note this hilarious article on orb's "purported" attendence...

http://www.the-leader.com/features/x1194960769/Local-man-sings-with-country-star-Keith-Urban

Local man sings with country star Keith Urban

"So it was the thrill of a lifetime when Baker was randomly pulled out of the crowd during last week’s show at Buffalo’s First Niagara Center, and got to sing onstage with Urban in front of 20,000 fans."

...firstly, peculiar how a review for a concert that took place on Sept 8...8 DAYS ago is ONLY NOW coming out...only some 2 hours ago...revealing that orb played, "in front of 20,000 fans." And just as peculiar is the fact that according to wiki...(since the website for this venue reveals no capacity for concerts)...is 18.5k. So, either this number is simply PR BS... what with orb's current audience numbers being vastly lower...or they y OVERPACKED the arena above the established capacity by 1,500 bodies...since even for hockey max capacity is 18.6k and basketball cap is 19.2k. In no way did orb attract 20,000 in a "concert" max 18,500 capacity venue! Clearly, the PR BS of this review...the lie of the PR BS... is revealed by the facts! Again, why such a LATE review...with a HIGH...and HIGHER capacity number than the stated capacity for this arena? Seems orb's hacks are reading my comments especially NOTING ORB"S LOUSY ATTENDENCE! Ha!

maclen said...

...post HA!...

...so, here is some collaborative info that TRULY shows what kind of a "draw" the orb TRULY is...

http://blogs.leaderpost.com/2011/09/17/keith-urban-concert-review/

Keith Urban concert review

"Playing the first of two sold out shows in Regina, Urban delivered everything that was expected of him and more from his loyal following —"

...so, impressive....two sold out shows? At the Brandt Centre? Let's look into this so IMPRESSIVE feat shall! Well, simply...the Brandt Centre max capacity is....
7,129! Yeah, that is definately some massive drawing power! Notice the previous review DID NOT proclaim a SELL OUT at the purported 20,000. Very telling...

maclen said...

So, did you hear orb sold out his two shows at The Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan? Yeah, both shows of... 7,129?!
Well, so another "observation"...along with the WEEK OLD review yesterday proclaiming that orb played to a 20k audience in a max 18.5k venue...seems it has been VERY easy to find the numbers to orb's shows in Canada. Of orb's first 4 shows up north, the reviews have specifically given the numbers in attendance. And another has specifically specified that his next two shows are "sellouts" of 7k venues. Unlike his US shows...where the numbers are VERY rare to find...seems orb is ALSO under the impression that he is VERY POPULAR in the Great White North... as is apparent he is not as popular in the US....and has no problem with the numbers getting reported. So, just HOW much MORE popular is orb in Canada than in the US? Let look at his "numbers" so far.
In the US, according to Pollstar's and Billboard's weekly touring reports...orb WAS averaging about 8k per show...then just the previous week his numbers dropped to 7k. Now, using orb's reported attendance numbers so far in Canada for his first 6 shows of...12k, 12k, 8,200, 10k, 7,129 and another at 7,129....orb is averaging so far, 9,409 per show. Not much above his previous 8k here in the states... and again that doesnt really pick up that average...or his weekly grosses significantly. orb's gross for last week according to Pollstar...as well as his average ticket prices...fell to to a low of 414k and $52 for tickets...and as is my new mantra...with now only 15 shows left, that's not a whole lot of time or shows to get his numbers anywhere near his high of 2009.

maclen said...

...post serendipitously...(or is it just my dogged eagle eye for orb's declinational leanings)

...some more collaborative data falling into my evil hands....HA! This evening is turning out be a very lucrative numerical goldmine...and it's all MINE I tell you...hahahhahahaahhahahhaha

The aforementioned billboard weekly touring data...and more telling numbers on the orb...

http://www.billboard.com/#/events/hot-tours-neil-diamond-jason-aldean-dolly-1005356552.story

Hot Tours: Neil Diamond, Jason Aldean, Dolly Parton

7 KEITH URBAN
$1,130,669
Aug. 25-Sept. 12
ASU Convocation Center, Jonesboro, Ark. (1/0)
BancorpSouth Center, Tupelo, Miss. (1/0)
John Labatt Centre, London, Ontario (1/0)

18,772 (22,446)

...so orb falls from #4 to #7 in his second appearance on Billboard's Hot Tours. Orb's 3 qualifying shows...ASU convocation center in Jonesboro, a 10.7k capacity venue...NOT A SELLOUT...BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, a 10k capacity venue...NOT A SELLOUT...John Labatt Centre in London, Ont, a 10k arena "center stage" or 9k capacity "endstage" venue... NOT A SELLOUT. Orb grossed $1,130,669 in these 3 shows...that's a $376,889 per show gross average. Orb drew an audience of 18,772 total out of a a possible 22,446 tickets available...which reveals a 6,244 average audience per show. All of orb's numbers SEEM to be dropping as the end of his tour is imminent.
So, just for fun let's take a look at the other country touring acts on this list... shall we?
At #8, just below orb is paisley...he grossed $1,099,303 in two shows...also not sellouts...but paisley averaged a gross average of $549,651 per show. Paisley ONLY sold 30,242 total tickets out of 37,000...BUT that is a per show average of 15,121 in attendance.
Two spots above orb we have the flatts at #5...who grossed $1,457,153 in 3 shows...which is an per show average of $485,717. Although none of the 3 shows were sellouts...they nonetheless sold 37,291 total tickets out of 51,694 (clearly the Flatts HAVE fallen in touring and cd sales by their own standards, BUT I bet at this point...orb WOULD KILL for their numbers!)...which is a average of 12,430 tickets per show.
And then there's aldrean at #2. He grossed $3,532,368 in 6 shows with 5 sellouts...which is an average gross of $588,728 per show. Aldrean drew 119,887 people out of 123,178 available for an per show average of 19,981 people per show.
So, despite his standings on the lists...orb seems to ALWAYS be trailing his peers!

Dear Nicole,

Hope all is well? Haven't seen you in such a long time but I am sure you will make up for that. Heard the husband is doing fine. I bet you were just so excited when Kate Winslet won her Emmy last night. Were you thinking Hey in a year that will be me? Did you realize that she is one Tony Award away from having won all of the biggest performance awards in the world? I bet you did know that. She won an Oscar for a role that she replaced you in didn't she? But that is the deal with real talent, it can't be bought nor can it not be recognized. Something you might want to think about.

Hugs and Kisses!

Dear Tara,

Yes, I'm doing wonderful! Thanks for asking. My husband IS fine! And doing fine as well! We love to spend all of our time together, alone with our beautiful daughters and of course, having great sex! He's one hunk of a man and he smells terrific! Yes! I was very excited when my friend Kate won her Emmy! She's such a great actress. She was kind enough to replace me in The Reader when I was pregnant with Sunday Rose. I remember when everyone was outraged that I would do a movie that involved seduction of a teenager. Thank goodness she took over! Am I right! I so agree with you that you can't buy talent. I guess that's why I'm still a working actress in Hollywood! AND why my sweet, loving, OH so sexy husband is one of the biggest country stars on the planet! I'm so lucky to be able to cuddle up next to him every single night. Well, gotta go! I'm filming yet another movie, this one in my town!

Hugs and Kisses back! Thanks for your continued interest in my life!

Ha!...yeah..."ONE of the biggest country stars on the planet." Nothing funnier than this monkey...other than monkeys throwing their feces at people... that's why he's playing to ONLY 8000 per show and his cd is now selling OUT of the top 25 selling cds...again...with a special note at the end.

which brings me to...

...the country cd sales stock numbers...

http://www.roughstock.com/blog/chart-news-september-21-2011-lady-antebellum-owns-the-charts

Chart News September 21, 2011: Lady Antebellum 'Owns' The Charts

Lady Anthebellum Own The Night 347,479 347,673

Jason Aldean My Kinda Party 25,084 1,839,858

Zac Brown Band You Get What You Give 9,910 1,147,583

Taylor Swift Speak Now 8,743 3,661,214

The Band Perry The Band Perry 10,447 762,001

Kenny Chesney Hemingway's Whiskey ??? ????

Lady Anthebellum Need You Now
11,475 3,656,067

Rascal Flatts Nothing Like This ??? ????

Sugarland The Incredible Machine ???

orb Get Closer ??? ????

...so as other performers start to drop off this list due to time and other newer cds, lady ant is on the sales list, AGAIN...at number one and at number 10. While orb is what...number 35 or 40? So a special note at the end of this article..

"And, No, Granna, we don't know what Keith Urban sold this week as Get Closer fell of the Top 200 Albums Chart this week."

...so considering orb was DEAD LAST in sales...he must surely have fallen down to China! I would also surely say orb's cd is NOW officially dead. I wouldnt be surprised if last week is the last time I'll be able to post orb's cd numbers...so mark this time...10 months and orb's cd is IRRELEVANT!

maclen said...

..post realized...

...so a little more analysis on Lady ant's new cd release. Their new cd sold 347,479 copies. That's a little over HALF of orb's TOTAL cd sales. ALL 10 months of it! Lady ant is only 291,712 cds away from orb's total. I predict that Lady ant's cd will quickly lap orb's pathetic cd in sales...while their previous cd continues to also outsell orb's cd. Furthermore, orb's current Canadian opening act, the band perry ARE still outselling the orb by 5 times the amount of cds, this despite their cd having been released 11 months ago to orbs 10 months! Orb HAS NO staying power.

maclen said...

So, just an update on orb's Canadian tour. According to a few reviews already, orb's gig in Rexal Place in Edmonton tonight attracted 13,000. Which is strange, since Wiki, which I have basically been quoting for venue capacities, states the Rexal place capacity for concerts is "approx" 12000....13,000 is close enough i guess! Also, there is NO LESS than 3 reviews in the past few hours specifically stating the 13,000 number. So I guess the "stenographers" ALL got their marching orders straight from the same horse's mouth. And again, I note...not one of the 3 "reviews" mentions a "Sell Out"..which I of course find not at all insignificant! So nontheless, using the reported number...orb's average per show for Canada is now 10,065. Certainly besting his US current average according to Pollstar of about 7874. So with a rough calculation, that would raise orb's overall average per show at about 8969 with only 12 more gigs left.

...so as i once stated, my intent here is to build a "tapestry"...to virtually compound by opinion with an "array" of facts, figures...data...etc. And MOST definately...the new technology. For instance I once did a listing of the most viewed top country artist youtube channels. And not too surprising, orb was dead last in total viewings. Well, doing some late night innertubes surfing, I found another one. And it's THE facebook. I noticed that when I went to orb's Facebook page, I saw on the right side of the page they show "similar" Facebook pages...and HOW MANY people "liked" their Face book pages. And of course, I also noticed a little interesting point...

Kenny Chesney- 3,949,070 likes

Carrie Underwood- 5,919,183 likes

Brad Paisley- 3,439,346 likes

Rascal Flatts- 3,483,408 likes

Lady Antebellum 5,704,038 likes

Jason Aldrean- 4,857,905 likes

Taylor swift- 25,814,622 likes

Zac Brown Band- 3,858,231 likes

...and so...of course...

orb- 2,642,369 likes...

once again...bringing up the rear. Which OF COURSE would make it reasonable to explain why his cd only has sold 630k copies. LEAST likes on Facebook...LEAST views on Youtube...therefore LEAST sold cds.

So, in this week's tour numbers...

http://www.ctpost.com/entertainment/article/Top-20-Concert-Tours-from-Pollstar-2184329.php

Aug 19
17. (New) Keith Urban; $440,658; $54.57. -8075 avg tix

Aug 26
15. (17) Keith Urban; $454,988; $53.61.-8486

Sept 1
16. (15) Keith Urban; $432,768; $53.03.- 8260

Sept. 8
15. (16) Keith Urban; $432,768; $53.03.8260

Sept 15
19. (15) Keith Urban; $414,439; $52.63.-7874

Sept. 22
18. (19) Keith Urban; $425,399; $53.92.-7889

...orb is up about 11k from last week's gross and up a few bucks in avg tix price...and his average audience remains in the 7k levels. So far orb HASNT posted a 500k gross yet. And again, his numbers remain pretty constant. Also note that last week paisley shot right past and is now grossing $714k a show . And with his LOWER ticket prices...is clearly outdoing orb in show attendance...AS he did also in 2009...by 11k for a total per show audience of 18,908. Paisley also is outgrossing orb by $289k a show. As is Aldean with $523k a show and a 16,753 per show audience attendance...which is about 9k more than orb.

Hatti said...

Well maclen....I guess KU is making a good decision to finish the tour in Oct. and start working on a totally new CD!! ;)

It will be so much fun to see what Moosie girl is going to do. She will just have to work overtime to keep the finances up. ((giggles)))

How about pole dancing?? Oh scratch that...the pole would definitely make more money!! ((giggles)))

Well maclen....I guess KU is making a good decision to finish the tour in Oct. and start working on a totally new CD!! ;)

Well, certainly Hatti...with his current cd being the obvious dud that it is...it will no doubt be his LOWEST selling cd in the past 12 years...since his self titled album in 1999...he would be wise to take some time and regroup. But then again, his lackey's certainly didnt heed the "advice" being given on this blog and others that dedicating the cd to his wife was a HUGE mistake. I agree, as you do that orb no doubt has his lackey's monitoring these blogs...if not they are the dunces this cd has proven them to be...for we all knew it would be a failure. The whole "cd cover" pic fiasco at Facebook...the lame "standard" cd with only 8 tracks...the rather juvenile songs. It would seem in his desperation, the orb has "severed" any mention AT ALL to his "family"...or his "family" has quite literally abandoned his tour. Of course last year when orb went back out on his summer "festival and county fair" tour...and then it was revealed he was already writing for ANOTHER album I clearly thought it was a mistake. Orb surely can "multi-task"...but it is clear he CANNOT come out with a decent album...not with the mini touring and also the short period of time he was given to get the cd done. I also have no doubt, Hatti, that orb WILL attempt to come out with something COMPLETELY different on his next cd. But what can he possibly do? I've hypothesized that perhaps a "live cd"..it's cheap...orb doesnt have to rack up a 13 member songwriting team and no added recording studio or musican expenses. Or he may try to further his attempt at going full "rock on" he's obviously attempting on this tour. His country "audience"...in regard to cd customers is currently in the 600k scale..his live show audience has clearly also declined since 2009 already. So orb is at a conundrum...does he stick with his dwindling country audience...or does he try to "broaden" his appeal to other genres? As we all know, he's tried to go of the "swifty" teen beat...he's going "rock on" to his currently dwindling concert crowd. So, as i asked early last year when orb revealed that he was already writting and recording another cd...what ELSE does orb have to write and sing about besides the "love" of his wife and kids? I certainly havent seen ANY complexity or range to the orb the past 5 years.

maclen said...

So, just to keep up that tapestry going...here is orb ONCE again dead last on a list...the complete list of pollstar country grosses I posted earlier...

2. (3) Taylor Swift; $2,188,366; $74.26.- 29,468

3. (2) Kenny Chesney; $2,168,248; $75.08.-28,879

8. (9) Brad Paisley; $714,346; $37.78-18,908

10. (11) Rascal Flatts; $624,324; $35.64.-17,517

12. (14) Jason Aldean; $523,207; $31.23.-16,753

17. (18) Sugarland; $431,107; $49.62.-8,688

18. (19) Keith Urban; $425,399; $53.92.-7,889

..now I just noticed Tara's post. Forbe's top earning country stars and orb is NOT on the top 40? Not very surprising...with cd sales and touring down...clearly the TRUE reason orb is "freelancing" with a gaudy fragrance. By the way, in regard to his new "fragrance"...I imagine it will do just as WELL as his "Hank and Evie" clothing line!

http://www.trademarkia.com/hank--evie-77201640.html

"This is a brand page for the HANK & EVIE trademark by Urban, Keith in Nashville, TN, 37203. Write a review about a product or service associate with this HANK & EVIE trademark. Or, contact the owner Urban, Keith of the HANK & EVIE trademark by filing a request to communicate with the Legal Correspondent for licensing, use, and/or questions related to the HANK & EVIE trademark.

...yes...abandonded...no statement of use.

Hatti said...

Yes maclen...it was not KU's idea to trade mark something Moosie girl made up. She tried to say they were communicating earlier then they were by using these nicknames. Well it wasn't true. KU's mess started earlier but it wasn't communication at that point it was deliberate sabatoge on Moosie's part.

I am sure he just did as she said and then dropped it never really putting a business format together. A few articles of clothing and done with it!!

Seems it was a just keep the peace effort!!

I think there was some hope the tour might have been extended until the spring but now it looks like it will end in October. Still I have to say I have liked the shows on this tour
he has a good band but people are moving on. Someone over on E said he is living the life of celebrity not a musician and I think that might have been the goal all along.

And yes I am devastated that REM broke up this week.

Keith Urban stars in Get Closer tour at Key Arena
TIMOTHY FINN; THE KANSAS CITY STAR
Published: 09/23/11 12:05 am

"Keith Urban is bringing his Get Closer tour to Seattle’s Key Arena on Thursday.
In the past, he’s toured with some high-powered openers: Carrie Underwood in 2008 and Taylor Swift in 2009. Crowds at both of those shows were huge – at capacity or very close.
This time, he’s not sharing the bill, and while KeyArena is not sold out, his Top 20 concert tour is packing them in. Only single seats are available for the lower level of the arena.

...which I recalled posting a very similar article back in August...

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/20/3088143/review-keith-urban-impressive.html

Review | Keith Urban impressive, familiar in latest KC concert
TIMOTHY FINN, The Kansas City Star
August 20, 2011 ET

"Keith Urban came to Kansas City Friday night. So did a small legion of semi-trailers with his name emblazoned on them. It has typically been a big deal when Urban plays in Kansas City. His shows have been sure sell-outs, whether at Kemper Arena or the Sprint Center.

Friday’s show was his third at the Sprint Center. For the previous two, he brought some high-powered openers: Carrie Underwood in March 2008 and Taylor Swift in August 2009. Crowds at both of those shows were huge — at capacity or very close. That Swift show was so sold-out there was virtually no scalping going on outside the arena. It was a must-see event.

This time: not so much. The upper deck at the end opposite the stage was hidden by the black curtain; and there were clutches and rows of empty seats around the rest of the arena. His opener was Jake Owen, a guy with two well-received studio albums on his resume (and another due this week) — a rising star, but not an arena-packer like Underwood or Swift."

...well, I was right...it IS the same reviewer, same review...just different cities! Well, when it first came out in August, I pointed to it as further proof orb is on the wane in concert audiences. Then I realized that the show the "re-review" posting today is for orb's show in Seattle...which isnt TILL NEXT WEEK's thursday...some 6 days away. I think it's pretty pathetic SOMEONE dug up a month old review to preview a show...and with the point that once again...the show next week probably WONT be a sellout...as he sold out in 2008 with underwood...or 2009 with swifty! I do believe what we have here is
a little prearranged "backside covering"...as orb is almost done with the Canadian leg of his tour where he is averaging a "good" for orb...10k a show... and he'll soon return to the States...and his anemic 7k a show audience! Now, of course, it seems rather odd that this Timothy Finn of the Kansas City Star in Missouri would be doing a "preview" piece on a show orb is doing all the way over in Seattle, Washington...and also oddly, using a "recycled" review? I suspect a pretty dense lackey in the orb camp called in a favor in an attempt to "lower" orb's concert audience expectations once he gets back to the states?

maclen said...

So in a Canadian concert update...orb is NOW getting "Ropes in BIG CROWD" in his headlline...so, just HOW BIG a crowd?

http://www.calgarysun.com/2011/09/24/urban-cowboy-ropes-in-big-crowd-at-the-dome

Urban cowboy ropes in big crowd at the Dome

"The New Zealand-born country star’s Get Closer tour stopped in town for the evening, attracting a crowd of 14,000 people, who were treated to a solid slab of accessible, catchy country rock.

...YES...FOR orb a 14k crowd IS big...but then when you realize the following...

Aldean is AVERAGING 16 k PER show...

Flatts is AVERAGING 17k PER SHOW...

Paisley is AVERAGING 18k PER show...

Chesney is AVERAGING 28k PER show...

Swifty is AVERAGING 29k PER show...

...so once again...14k IS BIG....for orb! Ha!

...so... a very humorous quote from this "review"

"Any artistcan throw in some eye-catching pyrotechnics and a laser light show and call it a spectacle, but Urban prefers to connect with his fans on a more personal level."

...so, orb DOESNT need "eye-catching pyrotechnics and a laser light show" to call a spectacle? Really?

"That didn’t mean the set and lighting design was lacking. On the contrary, the innovative set up of lights on circular tracks, made for an spectacular light display and the massive oval screen allowed fans to, yes, get closer to the star."

...so, IF orb DOESNT need em...WHY DOES HE HAVE EM?! Thanks for the contradictory nonsense! I suppose HE DOESNT need that humongous circular video screen to show of his steaming hot frame or for those close ups that catch those fetching "frosted highlights!"

maclen said...

...post haste...

...oh yeah...in my previous mockery...I forgot to mention... the max capacity of the saddledome in Calgary is 19.2k. So that's 5.2k EMPTY SEATS in orb's BIG CROWD!

Tara said...

I think KU loves fame if he can control it. We will see what happens soon enough because that big fork in the road is right up at the next stop.

As for REM no one really knows what happened except they were together for 31 years they didn't have a record contract and weren't really interested in mounting a huge tour again- perhaps it was just time.

Hatti said...

Yes Tara maybe it is just time for some changes in all directions.

I remember the day when KU's life was only public when he was doing a show or having a M&G one of those things.

He never walked into Starbucks or The Grind with paps to get pics. No one would know except the people that worked there.

So, without any reviews of orb's gig last night, I thought it would be interesting to "contrast and compare" this year with only about a half a month to go til orb's tour is over...to a series of 5 shows from orb's 2009 tour from june to aug. Here's orb' last apprearance on Billboard's Hot tours report, 2011...

Giant Center, Hershey, Pa. (1/1)
59,452 (59,648)

...orb averaged $681,342 per show with an average crowd of 11,890 per show...and he had 4 sold out shows out of 5.

Here is the "back to back" comparison just for clarity...

2009
$681,342 per show gross

2011
$376,889 per show gross

2009
11,890 per show attendance

2011
6,257 per show attendance

2009
4 out of 5 sell out shows

2011
0 out of 3 sell out shows

2009
$60 average ticket price

2011
$57 average ticket price

...now if you notice the avg ticket prices for each year...pretty much the same...but of course the only difference between the WIDE apart total grosses is the LOWER attendance numbers this year. And once again, another one of my mantras...orb is only grossing about HALF of what he grossed in 2009! As many may recall my "declination theory" regarding orb's cd sales...that they were selling only half of the previous cd... his 2005 cd sold 4 mil ...his 2007 cd sold 2 mil and his 2009 cd sold 1 mil. So based on those VERY consistant declining sales, before orb's current cd was released I made a pretty bold prediction that it would ONLY sell 500k cds. Well, of course it's sold slightly more...BUT...based on it's currently LOW sales and the fact that the cd has fallen off the top 200 list...I was RIGHT that it would sell LESS than the previous cd...AND I would also point out it is only the first abberation result of my theory. AND I would point out that 640k cds sold is ALOT closer to my prediction of 500k than it is to sales of one million! It's precisely only 140k away from 500k...and it's 360k AWAY from one million. So all things considered, I feel pretty satisfied that my "analysis" is still pretty spot on.

Can't find any info on this board. Not much info provided by that address. You must register apparently to see the content. "Member only" boards are currently the MO of the fansies...I would be cautious of entering any info at this unknown board. Never know what whacko fansie's may be behind it...OR...it's simply an inactive site.

Well Hattie...fansie's are very rare and far and in between these days. They've all run for cover...NOT much to celebrate other than the fact that they are STILL fansies! If that site was supposedly by a "skeptic"...it seems pretty much insignificant as far as I can tell.

Well, this is hilarious...

http://www.vancouverobserver.com/culture/2011/09/27/keith-urban-gm-place

Keith Urban at GM Place

""We don't usually do this, but a friend of mine happens to be in town shooting a movie so he's here tonight...give it up for Russell Crowe!" said Keith all of a sudden. The audience went wild. Including yours truly. I'm a big fan of Russell's and I think I might have been screaming. So much so that I didn't hear what song he was going to perform, but nevertheless, I sang along with it. But I don't know what it was. Someone reading this review probably will know the name of it."

...so, swifty can attract the likes of chesney, mcgraw, dunn....jason mraz, paramore's hayley williams...the bieber...nicki minaj...andy grammer to appear at her shows... while orb can only "rustle" up...well russell crowe!? Clearly, THAT'S the difference between having a cd that's sold 3.6mil over 640k cds...and your current tour is attracting 29,000 per show as opposed to only 8,000 per show! Oh yeah, dont neglect that the orb can ALSO get his opening act to perform with him. So, first the aussie crowe...who's next...naomi watts or simon baker?

Hatti said...

Hey maclen those Aussies stick together. Well....that's if you are a real Aussie and not one by way of Hawaii!! ((giggles)))

It's definitely a skeptic board, not a bunny board, supposedly started a couple of years ago by a few old and anti-Eboard skeptics which is why I was interested. But I got a reply today saying I need an invitation to be a member so I guess I'm not privileged enough. Thanks anyway.

So, better late than never I always say...audience numbers for orb's show last saturday night at the South OKanagan centre...

http://www.bclocalnews.com/entertainment/130662628.html

Keith Urban gets close with Penticton fans

"The Australian-born country star made a huge impression as he worked guitar, voice and crowd simultaneously, making it a memorable night for the 5,000 concert-goers packed into the hall."

...so in the 6,500 max capacity venue orb can only manage 5,000? Well, that percentage is about right...early on orb was attracting 12k in the 19k venues such as the Scottaband and AirCanada centres. And now with the available attendance numbers orb's Canadian tour is now only averaging 9,939 per show as opposed to the 2009 Canadian numbers I posted earlier which showed the orb averaging 11k per show.
Well, evidently I just noticed lower down on this review it states...

"The sold-out house at the SOEC was by far the biggest audience Afonso has ever faced, but she is by no means a stranger to the stage."

...Ha...5000 is SOLD OUT!? Apparently for orb...IT IS! So I guess as that saying goes...or in my preference...that old elvis song..."Home is where the heart is, and my heart is anywhere you are"...for orb...sold out is what ever amount of tickets he manages to sell, no matter the venue size!

maclen said...

"Hey maclen those Aussies stick together. Well....that's if you are a real Aussie and not one by way of Hawaii!! ((giggles)))"

Well, I clearly felt Hatti...THE one thing music go-ers are no doubt very eager to see...an "actor" play acting at being a "rock star"...but then again, orb's crowd IS VERY accustomed to that...they see THAT everytime they go to an orb show!

Oh, well then wondering?..you may be referring to that bunch who recently commented here, complaining that I kept refering to them as "fansies" because as they claimed, they WERE anti kidman...but pro orb...AND that THEY were the true SKEPTICS...and not US...or simply me...and when I 'counterdicted" their ideas of how orb is still "hunky doorey" they whined somemore. I find that it is currently the "fansies"...in the case of the bunnies and monkeys...who are desperately in need of "private" and "exclusive" blogs...as Ive maintained for a while...it is not very satisfying and in fact it is "embarrassing" to be a fansie of either orb or kidman right now. But as the NKU and monkeyland "private and exclusive" message boards HAVE shown...it does nothing to advance their popularity...and in fact in hinders their popularity...as it will most definately EXCLUDE any future possible fans who may simply be put off by the "firewall" put up...ESPECIALLY for online fan sites!

Well, here is a very interesting fact about orb's current single...Long Hot Summer...I stumbled on while I was perusing the Pulse Music Board thread, "Keith Urban-Long Hot Summer...

http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=107319&page=4

...posted by jhomes87...

"I was also a little...idk, "surprised" to see this one's sales a little lower. But Keith hasn't had a gold single since "Only You Can Love Me This Way".

I really think his next album needs to be a little different. He has a great live show, but there are a lot of up-and-coming stars that would like to have some of the spotlight too and if Keith wants to remain one of the biggest country stars, I think he needs to do something to get a little more momentum. Not necessarily a drastic change, but something different...he did say he felt "something different" about the next album, but he didn't know what it was yet.

Anyway, here are single sales for LHS through August 28:

23 Keith Urban – “Long Hot Summer” 17,371 / 133,017

Some other big hits songs around him on the chart:

04 Jake Owen – “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” 52,477 / 853,270 | GOLD
05 Blake Shelton – “God Gave Me You” 49,716 / 277,878
09 Rodney Atkins – “Take A Back Road” 39,708 / 454,681
11 Eli Young Band – “Crazy Girl” 36,434 / 771,900 | GOLD
12 Kenny Chesney (with Grace Potter) – “You And Tequila” 35,511 / 605,763 | GOLD
14 Rascal Flatts (with Natasha Bedingfield) – “Easy” 26,300 / 193,484
16 Toby Keith – “Made In America” 22,080 / 232,406
18 Billy Currington – “Love Done Gone” 21,545 / 224,208
20 Scotty McCreery – “I Love You This Big” 19,856 / 546,387 | GOLD
21 Dierks Bentley – “Am I The Only One?” 19,274 / 419,182
22 Brantley Gilbert – “Country Must Be Country Wide” 18,432 / 257,727
28 Craig Campbell – “Fish” 15,771 / 142,010
29 Taylor Swift – “Sparks Fly” 14,690 / 351,330"

...so as Ive been tracking orb's album sales and tour grosses and attendance...I apparently have overlooked his single's SALES...and NOT his singles performance on the single's radio chart results! NOw this jhomes87 while an obvious orb fan, IS evidently grounded in reality and also believes orb "needs to change his game plan."
So, along with basically declining in cd sales and tour grosses and attendance...he ALSO is declining and trailing in single's sales!

my 2 cents about a few topics

I think the chart sites are fairly interesting reading. I was surprised too that there is a suggestion that KU change the game plan in terms of a new recording. We know this pablum is not selling.

Has anyone else heard the rumor he is going to record a Christmas record? I will have to dredge up an interview he did where he said he didn't really like that music but I was looking in a bunch of Country Stars recordings and most major stars record a holiday record- it puts product out and its pretty safe music from criticism isn't it?

How come I never get invited to these skeptic sites? I am as skeptic as you get?

Where oh where is Nicold? I think she just might be laying low because she was so overexposed last year for the rabbid whole thing. Also pretty known now that she is good pals with Uncle Ruppie and that may hurt her even more- but remember her HBO thing will happen this fall and then we will see her. I hope to go they aren't getting another child.

Yes, Urban Myths is privately owned...but what I meant
by 'private and exclusive" is that ONLY members can comment or even view the threads. Sure, UM's comments are now monitored and given to approval...but fansie's can...and have had their comments posted here if they abide by the UM guidelines. And as your case implies wondering?...I DOUBT with MY rep on the blogs...I'd be "Accepted" at NKU or monkeyland even if I bothered to register at those sites.

I just read this morning over at the Pulse music board...that orb is now re-recording this Long Hot summer as "Long hot santa" for a xmas time blitz.

http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=107319&page=5

Now whether it's true, we'll have to wait and see. But if true, I find it pretty desperate and WAY to opportunistic to canibalize a only months old song in an attempt to milk an obviously lackluster and weak selling cd. Clearly, as orb's cd has now dropped out of the top 200 album charts... simply releasing ANOTHER single from this obvious dud of a cd...or wants to simply reinvent one he no doubt believes is the "most commercial" song on it... only feeds the perception I'v been making for the past year certainly...that orb lacks creativity or originality. This will simply seem desperate.

Well Tara I think you're as good a skeptic as they come. But what do I know I'm only half a skeptic!! ((giggles))

maclen...Now about this Long Hot Santa I really think it is just for fun! I don't think KU is actually going to record a Christmas CD with that title. Unless he is going to move Santa to OZ!! ((giggles))

I will say this if he does record something of that nature it may be with John Mayer!! ((giggles)))

Now Tara...As for Moosie girl. Well I think she is laying low for several reasons.

First....her paps put out a false report about KU kicking his car. As you can see nothing came of it. BUT...maybe Nash Metro wants to talk to her about it!! :D

Second....She is very very close to Uncle Rupie and I'm sure a few that are not under RM's boot heel would love to get some answers from her.

Third....I think KU has either been fired from her servitude or he quit!! One or the other makes me happy!! But I think she is not sure how to handle that yet. She has to be careful what she puts out there or it could come back to bite her hard !!! ((giggles)))))

I believe he quit...but then what would I know! ;) ((giggles))))

maclen said...

Yes, so the dude over at the Pulse thread explained earlier today that it was simply a joke that orb was re-recording his single into "Long Hot Santa"...basically for the benefit of some other commenter. As the commenter explains...

http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=107319&page=5

"Sorry, but it ruins any possibility of fun to explain a joke. Don't worry; you're not missing much. I hope Joey laughed, since he was #1 in my target audience."

...well...it MAY ruin any fun for him...but considering at least 2 other regular commenters over there also took it half seriously as well...I'd say the "joke" was a total failure...as no one apparently took it as a joke!

OK, I'll bite...a little. As to the "absent" kidman...and the possible reasons she is MIA. This would be THE PERFECT opportunity for someone who MAY be "in the know" of "kunkyland"... to come out with the correct reason she may be MIA. You know, BEFORE the fact of any reason that may come out for her abscence. Usually, those kind of leaks or feeds go to the likes of the Daily Mail...as it did with her first pregnancy...no doubt for a sweet little sum of mullah! What I expect though is she will turn up in another lame prearranged photo op over at JJ or GG...of her on the set of her next irrelevent film in some hideously ridiculous costume.
What I find most interesting though...is that there is absolutely no interest at all...that I can see on the blogosphere in her conspicuous absence. No Lainey...dlist questioning or speculating. Has Casablanca posted any possible blind items or answered a question on what may be going on? NOw again, as Ive maintained since their beginning...I expect it to all at some point unravel. So, is this the time..only time will tell.

I don't mean this blog, Maclen. I mean Urban Myths, the private skeptic board from which this blog started. Only members can view threads and comment, membership has to be approved too and if I remember right, it also required an invite from the owner in the beginning. I asked about the other one because I wondered who was there, not to debate whether 'fansies' have some perverse need for private boards. I see nothing wrong with them, bunny or skeptic but I can see this isn't going anywhere so I'll leave you to discuss record sales.

Well, the only advice I can ultimately give you is...if your trying to get in touch with other "skeptics" who may or may not have an exclusive blog...sadly it may be obvious that they simply dont consider you worthy of their presence online. But....good luck...

Now onto those "record sales" eh?

Well, in this week's cd sales stock numbers...

http://www.roughstock.com/blog/chart-news-september-28-2011-lady-a-remains-1

...well orb remains OUT of the top 200... with sales probably in the upper 1k's...with a total so far of 640k cds sold. Meanwhile, Lady Ant's new cd sold another 124k in it's second week...for a two week total of 472,403...which is now only 167,590 behind orb's total. Meanwhile chesney's cd is at 956,260 in sales...the Band Perry is now at 771,399 in sales...the Flatts, who also have slipped out of the top 200...were also above the 900k sales mark...some 300k above the orb.

So Cap was saved...KU did what he was told to do and here we are. ((giggles))

So it time once again for Pollstars's weekly concert grosses...

http://www.cnbc.com/id/44720176

Aug 19
17. (New) Keith Urban; $440,658; $54.57. -8075 avg tix

Aug 26
15. (17) Keith Urban; $454,988; $53.61.-8486

Sept 29
15. (18) Keith Urban; $431,617; $53.50.-8067

...so, orb made a little movement...grossing $6k more than last week and gaining in audience... a WHOPPING 178 people! Well, he's back in the 8k audience...if he can even call that a victory...IT IS his lowest level in the 8k range. So, with only 9 more gigs left...what ground can he gain? Yes, this all looks very similar...his cd sales fluctuated between 200 to 300 cd sales lower or higher each week...BUT he was only selling a total of 2k to 2.5k a week...in the sphere of "calculations" that is miniscule. Now orb is selling in the 1k level. So, taking into account that orb's Canadian grosses and attendance...based on the numbers available...which were SLIGHTLY higher than his US numbers...MAY NOT as yet be reflected in these reports, what could their effect be on his OVERALL numbers. Since I've only seen his audience numbers, I could speculate what his attendence overall may be with those numbers. In a previous comment I calculated orb was averaging about 9,939 per show in Canada...now calculating that with his current avg according to Pollstar, of 8067 per show, that would be an overall average of 9003 per show...more than the 8k...BUT less than the 11k of 2 years ago.

http://www.billboard.com/#/events/hot-tours-taylor-swift-elton-john-jason-1005379542.story

...well, no sign of orb in this weeks report. As I alluded to previously...I'm not aware if the Canadian leg of his tour did not gross well enough to make this week's list..or these reports are simply several weeks of gigs BEFORE orb's canadian tour began....oh wait...why dont I just check this weeks gigs that WERE reported. For instance...swifty is #1 with a gross of $9mil or 10 shows. Her 2 shows in Nashville at the Bridgestone arena ARE included in this report of concert grosses...she played there on Sept 19. And orb's gigs in Canada were between Sept 9 to 26...so clearly orb's canadian gigs DID not gross enough to put him in the top 10 grossing tours. If you also notice...3 of the top five grossing tours this week are country performers...swifty at #1...aldean at #3 and paisley at #4. The orb is conspicuously missing...again no surprise.

The rest is a a few of the rehased and tired gimmicks he's done for years now...runs out to his sattelite stage...brought up a few fans onstage to sing kiss a girl...brings out owen to duet on Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane"...but I'm pretty sure she left out his most orerused motto..."Who's got the good seats now?" Also orb's "rock" cred was played up....but neglected not too surprisingly was mention of the attendance in the 17k max capacity arena. My guess not at capacity...and NOT a sellout.

Oh brother throw up time !! Please give me a break. That is a review??

Yes I believe he knew his career was going to head to the dunny being stuck with her. She was not going to be in the background. She was going to interfere with his band and his music so he knew what was going to happen.

Maybe he just gave up trying to fight it. He said whatever!! And here is the proof of the pudding.

Even though he stopped bringing her up, people still think most of his songs are about her.

Oh well things will change soon!! ;)

Well, it's been a VERY quiet week in the land of "bland and unplentiful." Kidman has disappeared off the scene of "lame photo ops" for more than a month now...and no one has even noticed...present company excepted of course...and orb has just returned to the states with his "were closed" tour. I once commented that it was such a noticeable difference on how it was SO easy to find orb's attendance numbers reported in reviews on the Canadian leg of his tour...as opposed to his US tour...where I noticed from about the first 2 or 3 shows the attendance SUDDENLY became very rarely reported in reviews. Of course I attributed that to the assumed acknowledgment that orb was more popular in Canada than in the states...and the numbers seem to bear that out...well barely...by my calculations...orb is averaging about 8k per show in the states...and he averaged about 9k in Canada. So the "numbers" were readily reported in Canada...wink wink...I was able to find reported attendance numbers in 9 out of 11 shows orb did in Canada. Tommorrow will mark exactly one week since orb's tour has been back in the states...and he's played 3 shows so far...and NOT ONE reported attendance report...and only one review from his Seattle show has been posted. So I guess the "US attendance" muddle up will continue once again for the last 7 shows on orb's tour. Orb's standing in the last Pollstar concert gross report... he was once again averaging 8k per show. Another uncertainty I had was...how many shows exactly will orb play in this tour? Well, I finally noticed that on orb's Facebook page he has his entire tour schedule under "Events"...and according to that schedule...orb will play exactly 60 shows. And again, doing a rough calculation using the only available data on orb's tour...from the aforementioned Pollstar weekly grossing report... orb's current gross per show is $431,617...multiplied by his total shows...would be a total gross of only $25.8 million. Now that WOULD be quite a meaningful drop in gross from his last full tour in 2009...where, once again, orb grossed $42.7mill. That would be about a 40% DROP in gross...almost 50%! And as Ive also noted in previous comments...the Pollstar numbers remain basically consistance throughout the tour...as there "mid year" data differs from the "end of year" data by only a few million. In 2009, at the "mid year" report orb was averaging $638,869 gross per show...and in the "end of year" report orb ended up with an average of $712,078 gross per show. That would be about $73,209 more per show orb grossed in the second half of his tour...for a total of $3.1mil more orb grossed in the 43 shows in those second half of the tour. So, theoretically orb MAY gross about $29.9mil for his tour. And again, still miles away from his 2009 final gross...

...class dismissed...

Review: Keith Urban concert full of touching moments

"Weckworth snagged the most prolonged one, but hugs from Urban were plentiful Sunday night, when his "Get Closer" tour brought him within hand's reach of hundreds of audience members at Power Balance Pavilion.
Accompanied by security, Urban bumped fists, high-fived and sometimes even sang and played guitar while walking from the big stage to smaller, separate stages set up among an audience of nearly 10,000."

So, NEARLY 10k...considering that the Power Balance Pavilion holds 17k for basketball...what with the entire center court taking a chunk of real estate...orb COULD have managed a few more than only 10k. So, if the reported grosses pan out to the end...it's a pretty poor result...what with all the gushing of how orb is a "performer of the people"...and all the "reaching out to his fans" ...all the tired gimmicks totally misrepresented as NEW...the "odes to the guitar hero" will have ALL proven to pale to his past touring attendance. That tells you ALOT.

See...this is what makes orb so pathetic...so easy of an open target.
So, this morning when I first logged online...I of course checked my mail...went to my bookmarked sites...the entertainment sites and political blogs. When I did a quick Google news search of the orb...where I found that new review I previously posted...I also noticed NOT ONE, BUT TWO stories of russel crowe's appearance at orb's show in Vancouver.

Jor-El Rocks! Russell Crowe performs with Keith Urban in Vancouver

The Associated Press

I found it pretty odd..considering that was last week...and my simple reaction was..."They're pretty late to the dance on this story" and simply moved on. That is until only a few minutes ago...as I was back online riding the innertubes...I chanced on this story...

http://music-mix.ew.com/2011/10/03/taylor-swift-usher-ti-atlanta/

Taylor Swift duets with Usher, T.I. during all-star sweep through Atlanta: Watch here

"It’s Monday, which means it’s time once again to play Who Showed Up At Taylor Swift’s Tour Stop Over The Weekend?
Swift’s indefatigable Speak Now tour made its way to Atlanta over the weekend, and showcased visits from not one but two local superstars.
On Saturday night, Swift welcomed Usher to the Speak Now stage, and the two of them ran through his massive 2004 single “Yeah.”
"On Sunday, Swift brought out another member of Atlanta’s musical royalty: T.I. The rapper (who had only been tasting free air for a few days thanks to his release from prison) tag-teamed with Swift on “Live Your Life,” with Taylor filling in for Rihanna."

...so, then...the odd and very late rehashed stories of crowe appearing onstage with orb LAST WEEK...appearing THIS MORNING on the news circuit made sense. Orb pathetically trying to "keep up with the Jones'...or in this case the swifty. Now, with orb's OBVIOUS thirst...desperation for "crossover" appeal to save his dwindling career...it must kill orb...he must be "green" with envy...Incredible Hulk green envy...that swifty can simply pull out a battalion of special muscial guests to come out and appear on her stage...yet all orb can manage is an "old buddy"...of his wifey, no less....to appear at his stage. Now of course realistically, the ultra successful swify...with multi platinum sales of her current cd...an outstanding touring season...and no doubt VERY CHERISHED and DOTED ON recording artist at her very thankful recording label...CAN AFFORD to have guest after guest of very high profile musical performers to perform with her...while the declining cd sales and declining live audience turnout of the "UNSIGNED" and "MOM AND POP" recording artist orb CANNOT afford to have any. But, his hacks can rehash a week's old story to COMPETE on a monday morning news run of HIS "musical act"...actually only a "actor"...willing to appear with with orb onstage. I found especially hilarious of course, is that just as swifty had NOT ONE, BUT TWO performers over the weekend...orb's hacks had NOT ONE, BUT TWO stories of the week old story of crowe appearing with orb in Canada!

Okay I have now thrown up a bit in my mouth...
Apparently you can team with .nut (thats keithurban.net) and People.com to make a commercial for his new toilet water. Winners get tickets and airfare for a concert in 2012. Gee I am kinda scratching my head on this since there are no plans to tour next year and would you really want a bunny helping you expand your branding?

Hatti said...

Yes Tara my question exactly. Seems that is a lot of work for a fan to build a 30 sec commercial and get a couple tickets and a concert. Gee KU gets a commercial pretty cheap. Not seeing this myself.

He did say he was going to get back to the studio and not tour. Am I missing something??

Pardon my lateness in responding...well relative lateness for me...I've sort of been laid out the past day and a half due to some bad chicken!
Yes, dont forget Hatti and Tara...orb MUST NOW do things on the cheap. He is now "orb corp"...self producing and self advertising I would presume. Recall that his video of Put you in a song looked to be "made by an intern with a camcorder wandering around in the recording room and edited on his "macbook!" It's a "mom and pop" move for someone who needs to look CLOSELY at the finances!

maclen said...

So, in this weeks cd sales stock numbers... this week they neglect to list the top 25 country cd weekly and total sales...

http://www.roughstock.com/blog/chart-news-for-october-5-2011-lady-a-still-owns-the-week

...but some interesting info.

•Own The Night is officially Gold with sales over 547,000 copies in just 3 weeks.

...Lady ant's 3 weeks old cd now has sales of 574k...which now puts them ONLY about 95,000 cds sold behind orb's cd sales of about 642k.

•The Band Perry have sold 780,000 copies of their debut The Band Perry while having “If I Die Young” and “All Your Life” in the Top 100 selling digital singles this week.

... orb's Canadian openers have now sold 139k more cds than orb.

•Rascal Flatts’ Nothing Like This will pass the 1,000,000 scanned mark sometime this holiday shopping season (as “Easy” with Natasha Bedingfield runs up country/AC charts).

...I doubt if that will be said of orb's cd...which as you will recall...and I'll remind you...was released the SAME DAY as the Flatt's cd. Flatts are well above 300k more cds sold than orb's.
Now as to orb's tour...an update of it...orb has now been back onto his states tour a week and a half...and has had 5 shows...with only 2 having any reviews posted and only attendance numbers reported for one show. Clearly, orb's tour will end not with a bang but with a whimper. High on PR BS, the same tired gimmicks and less on the technical of how many people are NOT attending as opposed to his last full tour.

Tara said...

Well KU has always been known to be cheap but he is a multimillionaire you would think that just perhaps he might put a little investment capital into his own branding? Wouldn't that be a tax write off?

maclen said...

Well, investment capital is one thing, but I'm pretty sure the ongoing maintainence expenses of his business is one thing orb does not want to have to pay with his OWN personal finances. That is why I maintain that orb truly began his tour a half year after he released the album the tour WAS supposedly in support of. But no longer having the backup of a recording label...it took him a while...a LONG while in fact...to get sponsors for his tour. And in fact he didnt announce a sponsor for his tour until a week before the tour was supposed to begin. JUst because he may be worth a huge chunk of change, doesnt necessarily mean he wants to spend it all on trying to keep his career viable. The reason it is clear the orb has gone so gung ho on this tour...is that IT IS the most profitable element of his business. If you look at cd sales...at only 642k sold...if you multiply that by let's say an average of $10 per cd...that's $6.4mil total in sales. After capnash take out there share as distributors...royalties for session players, contributing songwriters...etc..how much is orb actually left with? And with the declining audiences on this current tour...how long can "orb corp" stay viable as a profitable business? As I also have been highlighting that his cd sales are constantly dwindling...so will his touring...and at some point it WONT be profitable for orb to release a cd or go out on tour. At least not in the matter he has been accustomed to, anyways.

Hatti said...

I think KU is investing in things like this cologne and probably other things we don't know about. I know he sure advertises Smart water enough to get paid for it. What else could he be paid for that we take for granted as just his conversation? His last big promotion got him big bucks...his own label....and a free ride for six years. ((giggles)))

Although to be told what to do....where to go....what to wear would bug me. I'd rather be an average Joe! :D

So, I'm catching the second half of jimmy fallon...and was just about to shut it down and leave anymore commenting for tomorrow...but I just saw this piece...and JUST HAD to comment...

http://www.denverpost.com/music/ci_19049095

West of Hollywood, east of Nashville, Keith Urban finds his niche

"It would be nearly impossible to write about pop-country star Keith Urban and not use that exact identifier — pop-country."

...oh yeah, simply giving orb THAT tag...doesnt necessarily mean that he was a success at it! Declining cd sales prove he is not a success at it...

"I don't know if (people's fascination with my life) will ever seem normal, but it's par for the course," Urban said. "It's a strange fascination at times, but I do my best to share that with people while maintaining the obvious privacy needed for my family."

..yes, we all know that this is simply a 360 from the release of his current cd...you couldnt get orb to shut up about his "family"...privacy be damned...UNTIL he figured out it was a sales and a ticketbuying buzzkill. No doubt he is abandoning the "family" angle to his music now that it no longer suits his PR BS!...

"Urban's music is in top form on "Get Closer." He co-wrote half of the record's eight songs. He even worked with songwriter Richard Marx (of "Right Here Waiting" fame) on his current Top 10 single, "Long Hot Summer," which has been dominating summer airwaves with its feel-good choruses since June."

...whoa...orb CO-WROTE half of the eight songs on the cd? That's 4 songs he CO-WROTE? Impressive that is NOT!

"Urban is also one of the genre's most active performers. "Get Closer" followed his previous effort, 2009's "Defying Gravity," by only a year and a half. And Urban is already working on music for his next album as he upholds his reputation as one of country's biggest touring acts. Not only does Urban play a lot, but he's also gigging the biggest rooms in the land."

...orb one of country's biggest touring acts? Gigging in the biggest rooms? Is that why he plays to only 8000 per show? I'd say orb is at the bottom of country's biggest touring acts! This kind of PR BS is what makes orb SO LAUGHABLE! The mealy mouthed statements the boot lickers and brown nosers will spew!

Yes, Hatti...it is precisely this type of ridiculous hype that HELPS me to reveal just how pathetic orb is. And the fact that there is now COMPLETE silence from the fansies online...you would have a hard time even finding an opinion...outside of the country "singles" bean counters at music charts blogs...anywhere online that has anything to do with his lousy cd sales or his declining tour numbers... his lack of awards wins...his being dumped by his recording label. You WONT find any opinion online of how he has clearly been abandoned on this tour by his "family"...or how supposedly Canada was to be where he get's SOME quality time with his "girls"...yeah, not one sight or peep of his precious family up north. Apparently, the orb is completely irrelevent now...even to the fansies!

At orb's updated average...he would have a total gross of about $27.9mil for this tour. $27 mil....$42mil? not pretty at all...

Well, of course that wouldnt at all be a surprise, Hatti. And right now that is simply ONE of the $64,000 question about kidman's "Howard Hughes" impersonation. And this is perhaps THE ONLY thing that could get me intrigued enough to come back to discussing kidman! Certainly not her lame and bottom feeding current career...or simply the string of lame photo ops...but the lack of them! ...in the latest edition of Hot Tours Billboard...the numbers...

http://www.billboard.com/#/events/hot-tours-def-leppard-rhcp-tim-mcgraw-1005395272.story

4 KEITH URBAN
$3,825,589
July 16-Sept. 21
Times Union Center, Albany, N.Y. (1/0)
Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio (1/0)
James Brown Arena - Augusta, Ga. (1/1)
BOK Center, Tulsa, Okla. (1/1)
Sprint Center, Kansas City (1/0)
CenturyLink Center, Omaha (1/0)
HSBC Arena, Buffalo, N.Y. (1/0)
Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta (1/0)
71,532 (89,573)

...so looking INTO the numbers...$3.8mil grossed in 8 shows. That's $478,198 per show...8,941 in attendance per show. With 71,532 tickets sold out of a possible 89,573 tickets...that's a total of 18,041 UNSOLD tickets...that's 2,255 unsold tickets per show. That reveals an average ticket price of $53...and out of these 8 shows, ONLY 2 were sellouts. That would be a total gross of $28.6mil for this tour. Again, that's LOW and steady!

That is why I believe she will make out of this the most she can. It will be the first time in six years people will actually be interested. If nothing else to see what dirt comes out.

Look at the car kicking fiasco. Even though it didn't happen all Nash turned out for KU b/c they hate the paps. Well?? who brought the paps into their lives? Wasn't KU!!

So a split and divorce will be the best for both of them but especially her.

The only problem I see is that Moosie girl will beat it to death. It will become overkill. She gets her face in the limelight and she can't give it up. There is nothing in her brain that says enough. Can we say addict? I do ! ((giggles))

Tara said...

Because she is such a fameho if and when the parting comes she will milk it for all its worth. Are they really filming that movie in Nashville- too quiet isn't it?
Remember she has the big HBO thing coming in November and he has 3 dates at the Opry and the CMAs- they will be together and if they aren't then we can talk. I still think her handlers said she was in the spotlight too much earlier in the year.
And if they are over that ring will be off his finger so fast he will have to double spray tan it to get to look normal.

Will there be one more single from the record?

So, once again it is my honor to point out orb's pathetic and declining career...while also highlighting how "unimaginative" and "unoriginally" derivative, to put it mildly...he is. I often wonder if orb has EVER had an original thought cross his seemingly barren mind. So, as you'll recall swifty played the Staples Center for 4 nights back in August...where she brought out a "special" guest each night...among who were the bieber...jason mraz and niki minaj...who I may point out are CURRENT music artists. So, OF COURSE, when orb finally rolled into his gig at the Staples Center...guess what? Yes, orb brought out a few "special guest" performers...

http://www.ocregister.com/entertainment/urban-321152-wows-center.html

Keith Urban wows fans at surprise-filled Staples show

"The country hunk’s long-awaited tour stop got assists from John Fogerty and Jack Black – not that Urban needed any help thrilling his crowd."

yes...legend Fogerty...late of CCR...and Jack Black. Again, too bad Fogerty hasnt been very RELEVANT since CCR and the early 70's..and black...MORE known for acting than current music chart relevancy! But of course, unfortunately for orb...I doubt HIS special guests WILL get the blaring headlines that swifty's current guest's got her. I also am not surprised for this "amazing" show...no blaring headlines of "sold out" or the simply numbers in attendance...knowing the pathetic orb...I doubt IF that was too impressive.

From what I've heard, "You Gonna Fly" is the next single. He will perform it on Ellen on Tuesday.
It might be a bit premature but it looks like Keith may have another #1 single come tomorrow. Funny no one mentioned that. Two #1's and one #2 in one year is a pretty good year by most artists standards but I'm sure it will all be justified here into a way to make it sound like his career is over.

Hatti said...

Well that will be the proof of the pudding when she don't show for Opry or CMA. Or if she does it is plain that she was not invited. Now that I would really enjoy!! :D

As far as a new single I hear You Gonna Fly is suppose to be next. Now I like that little song cause I know there is no way Moosie would be in a truck back front or otherwise!! :D

Hatti said...

Not at all 123...I think it shows when he writes a song that couldn't possibly be about Moosie girl it has a good chance to go to #1!!

Now if I were Moosie I would get the message...maybe not a message I would like but at least I would learn something from it!! ((giggles)))

Tara said...

I still think Shut out the lights
or Luxury of Knowing should be the next single. You gonna fly is okay.
Yes I was aware LHS is number 1 this week in Billboard - it will be there for a very short time as the Country Charts are quite fluid these days.
I like the song not crazy about the video.

Also he told The LA backstage bunch that his parents are here. He also said that Kidman gave him a box to watch Titan games in for his birthday- isn't that sweet.

Hatti said...

Tara did that come out of his mouth that she got him the box? Or was it in an article?

I got a problem with articles she puts stuff in that is absolutely not true. So if he said that and it's recorded on a video ok. I would be surprised...but ok he said it. If it's just written then I will say baloney she has never given him a thing.

He use to buy for himeself and she would say she got it for him. Had to be out there in black and white you know.

Country "singles" are meaningless...they guage how well the musicians PR hacks can play "footsies" with the radio stations. What is meaningful is that orb's cd will only sell about 650k to 660k copies... a good 340k copies away from that PR coveted "platinum" status...something the orb will no longer be able brag about. Because it measures a true guage of just how popular a musicians music is...and again...orb has 340k LESS people who didn't like his music enough to have bought it. What is meaningful is that orb is ONLY attracting about 9,000 people per show on his current tour. That is 2,000 LESS people per show than he attracted in 2009....and this year that will add up to a total of 120,000" LESS people that WILL NOT pay to see orb live this year. And mark my ever redundant and repetative words...those numbers will get WORSE next year! I am SALIVATING just anticipating his even more pathetic numbers next year. So, good luck to his fansies...the ones that ARE LEFT...that is!

Oh let's give the fansies a moment to celebrate as this is the only thing putting Urban in the winner's circle in a long time. I read where this was a valiant act by the fansies to get it to number one. Come next week, the song will be forgotten. The other artists can hold their number one singles for longer than a week, keep their album on the charts and fill arenas and stadiums. Can Urban do all that?

Tara said...

Thanks Maclen, you never disappoint. I knew you wouldn't let me down in turning Keith's number 1 single into a meaningless, everyone has one diatribe. You seem to know so much about Swift, you might want to be careful before you get called a Swift fansie. If singles were so meaningless, why would those that are so much better then Keith, in your opinion (Swift, Aldean, Rascal Flatts and everyone who isn't Keith) care about getting them? Oh and I never, ever said that Keith was having a better year then Swift. You are the only one comparing the two. They are completely different artists with completely different audiences. Having seen both I CAN say that.
Who knows maybe if Richard isn't busy maybe he'll come and sing LHS with Keith in Chicago. Then again, he's an 80's big haired singer, has been, who Keith is just trying to emulate and rip off. It's not even worthy of tweets or google mail if it should happen. Let's move on to more statics. Everybody loves them.

Well blue sky, I really should amend my previous comment about how singles are "meaningless." More precisely, Billboard's Country single chart is pretty meaningless...BUT as I highlighted in my second comment yesterday..."sales" of singles are VERY important. Just as his album...apparently orb's singles DONT sell either. Which brings me to this new story at Roughstock...

Band Perry Hit Triple Platinum With "If I Die Young"

"Recently, members of The Band Perry racked up a total of five CMA nominations and now they have new reason to celebrate - their smash single "If I Die Young" has been certified Triple Platinum for sales exceeding 3 million. This milestone arrives as the family band marks the anniversary of their self-titled debut album, THE BAND PERRY, which was released just one year ago this week on Republic Nashville and is now on track to reach Platinum status by the end of the year."

...so, again...orb's Canadian opening act have a triple platinum selling single...their year old album is on track to reach platinum "by the end of the year." By the end of the year, orb's cd will have sold only 662,000 copies. NOw, how about orb's US opening act? Jake owen's current single, "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" released this past april has already sold platinum. NONE of orb previous singles have even sold gold yet according to the RIAA. Pretty soon, orb will run out of viable opening acts... as current elite country acts...AND up and coming country acts are ALL outselling the orb...in all areas!

Well I am still a skeptic but I do hope that KU gets asked to be a member of the Opry sometime in this decade!

Yes Tara...I recall reading this about a week ago...

Rascal Flatts Invited to Join Grand Ole Opry Cast

"The most awarded country group of the past decade, Rascal Flatts, was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry Tuesday, September 27 by country legend and Opry member Vince Gill. The vocal group-- Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney-- will be formally inducted into the Opry family during the Opry’s 86th birthday weekend, Sat., Oct. 8."

...obviously orb IS NOT "awarded" enough to warrent induction! I mean...being nominated EVERY year for the past 6 years as "Entertainer"...without a win.. by the CMAs just doesnt cut it. Or...god forbid...as no doubt orb's fansie's may charge...it all simply has to do with "politics?" Yeah, well clearly..orb hasnt brownnosed the Opry enough!

Tara...I don't believe the Opry will ever give recognition to KU. He is not from this country.

For years they didn't give it to anyone that wasn't from the South. Look at Eddie Rabbit he never got a wave and never will.

Terri Clark is a member, has been since 2004 and she is from Canada.

George Strait is not a member nor is Miranda, Shania, Tay Tay. But I do think he will be asked he plays there enough. It's a bigger deal for the artist and its not based on anything other than the Opry wanting the artist there.
Patsy Cline is there and she was from VA and The Everly Brothers are from the midwest and Hank Snow is also a Canadian.

I would like to see it. I think doing AFTH is in part to try to be recognized for someone that values the history of the Opry. I don't know if the establishment will look at it that way.
