Kidman: You are contractually obligated to love me; Urban: You made me love you, I didn't want to do it; nope, I didn't want to do it...

Here is the story…

In January of 2005, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman met at the annual G’Day LA bash. Kidman, rumored after many drinks, gave Keith her number. He didn't call. Why? Many theories abound. He lost it, there was another woman he was dating, and he wasn't all that interested. Kidman seeks her prey. She studies up on the lad from OZ sees that he is an up and comer, has a great reputation, and isn't bad looking for those who like men. She finds out that some of his career is handled by the same people that handle her. She finds out who his personal management is and she places a call. It seems that this happened sometime in June of 2005.

Rumor is that it was suggested that a relationship with Kidman will boost his career worldwide – instantly, and perhaps chains can be pulled and a movie contract could fall in his lap. The problem is Keith. He is torn - pimp himself out or have a private life? After much coaching he makes a call and a walk in Central Park happens. Soon there are rumors that he is visiting the set of Fur...no pictures because he brought another woman to the set but he was there and was spotted by some of the locals so the rumor mill spills.

And then, boom, it is announced that Keith Urban has a development deal to be in a movie and, bigger boom, Kidman and Keith are seen on a motorcycle in upstate New York. It is now July of 2005. So the rumors start, she is seen at a Chesney show, with Keith at a Springsteen concert (sorry he was with someone else but, hey, a breathing woman), and they were all over the east coast having dinner while he is doing the busiest touring he ever has. But, by God, Keith made People magazine. He played Live 8. He started getting all coy and bashful with the press. In October of 2005, a ring was purchased, a $100,000 ring. It’s also part of the tale that Kidman bought herself the ring. And on October 25, three months to the day the first photos appeared in Oz, three months to the day that some were told it’s only a PR stunt, it seems that a contract was starting to be brokered.

Now the rest is history. Twenty four hours after Keith wins Entertainer of the Year, People runs the photos of Keith and Kidman in Boston and her with the ring on and Keith looking very scared. Kidman is seen at shows, even though she tells people that she hates his music, so says the rumor mill. Then the holidays, and they are together laughing, posing, rubbing Kidman's belly, Keith's dad leaving Nashville suddenly. Then we have the spring with some pictures of the couple rubbing noses and Kidman hiding the ring. Keith is trying to record the new CD. Kidman is trying not to say anything...blah blah blah

Then in May of 05, Kidman announces Keith is her fiancé and he disappears for a day....

So there in a nutshell is the courtship. Okay, it’s as phony as an 8 dollar bill. This was one of the most calculated PR arrangements ever.

Goal: Have Kidman appear to have moved on from her first husband
Met? Yep

Goal: To make Keith world famous
Met? Yep

Goal: To counter the TomKat press
Met? Yep

Goal: To get Keith a bigger audience, especially in Oz
Met? No, not really. He didn't do better business and Love Pain and the Whole Crazy thing is considered a failure

Goal: To get press for both of these famewhores and to be able to survive
Met? Well, Kidman is now getting some of the worst press in her life. She is being jumped about her use of botox and she is considered box office poison. She has been slammed for not being a good mother and for being a money grabbing opportunist. Keith, well, he went to rehab, he pissed off country music, his wolf ways and personal demons were exposed and paraded. He lost long term fans and his family has disappeared off the face of the earth. His mum is nowhere to be seen.

So is there a contract? I believe there is. I believe that these two, along with a very lengthy prenup, also entered into another contract. I think they know when it will end and why it will. I don't doubt Kidman is familiar with this kind of contract. I think rehab was entered not just to help Keith, but also to get him out of sight so he wouldn't embarrass her. He shouts his love to the mountains but he looks destroyed. She rubs his back on a yacht and that’s love? He brands himself because she asked him to.Yes, he tattooed himself with her name for her at her request and she has done nothing but pose with him. So very happy they had that fairytale wedding where he looked plastered.

The post honeymoon in Nashville: again Kidman got what she wanted - good press, and Keith got sold a bill of goods and maybe he wanted out but you just don't leave the beautiful, beautiful princess. You leave when your time is up and so far it looks like it he isn't there yet...

And what about that movie? Rumor is that one of them killed it because the press was getting wind of perhaps it all being a contractual agreement and that would have shown these two for the famewhores they are...

So will there be a movie? Well, he is writing music for a movie. He canceled his European tour to be in the US to either do more touring or another record. She is still making movies that aren't popular.

They both are doing so much for the environment. After playing Live Earth. Keith flies 20 hours, some of which is on a private jet, to get to have breakfast in public with his wife. And Kidman is out promoting, for a 3.5 million payday - Nintendo, which encourages children to stay inside, not exercise, and consume more crap which leads to higher health care costs and the use of plastics. Well, as Journey says, its goes on and on and on...

Maybe a new movie contract is what he is banking on… Kidman is just a joke... but they both chose to sign on the dotted line...

Yeah, I find it highly likely that this whole relationship and marriage was premeditated by the actions of ex Cruise. Despite the ridiculous snide articles I've actually seen that stated that kidman was "smart" to get herself out of the marriage with cruise, the actual facts of the split and her subsequent behavior actually show the opposite. Just as i find it suspiciously coincidental that she would find the "right one", just as cruise was entering into his world-wind relationship with katie holmes, especially when you note how resistant kidman was to even a hint of a relationship the previous 4 years since the split with cruise. Some might point to cruise's 3 year relationship with penelope cruz and point out why there was no drastic reaction from kidman? And i would note that during that cruise/cruz relationship, their public answer to marriage questions was always "they have no plans to marry. The fact that they never did marry seems to show that was actually the case. But with katie holmes, they were engaged, expecting a kid, and planning for marriage in a matter of months. And except for expecting a kid, (though it seems the tabloids tried very hard to have her expecting a kid) so was kidman... and she even managed to get married before cruise.

Whoever started this blog is so consumed with jealousy, it's really pathetic. To go to this extreme of setting up a blog to complain and whine about people you do not know and will never know is truly mind boggling to say the least. What a disgusting waste of time. Yep, it's safe to say this person is truly unstable. What a shame there are people like this. So sad.

So we're back to the timeline of the "contract". Why bring this back into the spotlight? Worried that they might actually be married for real? Can't have those hard-core skeptics, or should I say haters?, getting a hop to them now that he's back on tour and they're beginning to rethink their position?

This whole contract thing is bullshit. It's pretty clear to me that this is for real. Yeah, maybe he is the one doing a lot of the running these days for the marriage - but that's his choice and who are we to say that's wrong? What have we all done in order to maintain a relationship? I know I have been the one to carry it at times, just as my husband has when I needed him to. That IS what marriage is all about. It's a two-way street - but maybe that's an alien concept to the skeptics as they all seem to think that Keith owes them the music, and only the music and not to have a life on his own terms - whatever they may be.

maclen is so right on. kidman had to beat tom to the altar and keith was the unfortunate target. too bad, he didn't have enough faith in himself or his talent that he could make it on his own. he didn't need her crap name to do so. so, now he has sold his soul. he doesn't OWE us skeptics anything as you so eloquently put it. but if music is so much like breathing to him, then what is he doing to himself? do you think he can live a life exhausting himself trying to have a career and being her lapdog and manservant? do you bunnies think he can survive without his fix? kidman couldn't care less about the man, his music, his fans, or nashville. it's all about HER. thank goodness she came along to rescue his sagging career. go ahead and jump all over this post, i couldn't care less about what you bunnies call me. this blog is dead on. keith and kidman are BOTH a couple of famewhores. i doubt anybody was holding a gun on him when he signed on that dotted line.

notachance said...

Show me the "dotted line" doublewide, the one that says he sold his soul for a career. He had a career thank you and didn't need her to make it any better.

As for him wanting a life outside of the music, I believe that was always something he craved but never knew how to achieve. Maybe he's finally figured that one out through the rehab and his wife. You know, from the picture that I saw of that breakfast after Live Earth, he looked quite happy - not like anyone was forcing him to be there.

Whether he loves her or not, I really don't care at this point. What I do still care about is this wonderful talented muscian whose music I adore, whose career is quickly headed for the dumper. Say what you like, it's not good for his career to be doing Radio interviews where no one asks you about your music or your tour, but instead the interviewer talks incessantly about your wife. That has got to be damaging to Keith's self esteem. No matter how much Keith loves Nicole, living constantly in her shadow is going to damage the relationship. Add to that the fact that Keith is the one making concessions in his career for them to be together and at some point resentment is going to set in. It's human nature. Finally, he's become completely unreliable, as the European fans can attest, you purchase tickets to his shows and then pray that he actually decides to grace you with his presence and perform for you. A touring schedule is not seen by him as a committment, instead it's become a suggestion that he appear at a show if he feels like it. If he keeps doing that his professional reputation will be shit. Promoters and venues won't want to book him because they won't be able to count on the revenue from his appearance. This will eventually mean that he will be busted back to doing state fairs and back to having to constantly tour just to keep his name out there.

Hey doublewide, doesnt it seem strange when the comments center on kidman, the reactions of the defenders get pretty hysterical and exasperated. So are we exposing their true allegances? Personally Ive found it too mind numbing to respond. .. The fact that he has to constantly mention her and how much he owes her is a sign of how insecure he is, and the fact that she doesnt mention him at all, shows you who holds the control in this so called union. Psychological or emotional disfunction doesnt nessesarily need an actual signed contract to determine their behavior. And quite frankly, Urban isnt exactly coming from a stable, grounded position. He is ripe for manipulation.

Notachance - there's not a chance that you are right.

There is a contract - but you'll never know about it. Because as far as you're concerned Keith Kidman is a saint.

But hey, thanks for telling your bunny friends about the blog. The more hits, the better!

I agree with Doublewide - nobody forced Keith to become the Famewhore he's become. He had it in his genes. The whole Humble Musician from Oz, golly gee act was just that.

You hear that? - it was just an ACT, bunnies - I hate to tell you this, but you can go to every skeptic site in the world, and post how this is REAL LOVE and spout off endlessly about how great Keith is - the bottom line is, it's not going to make him show up at your door and thank you for your devotion.

He could care less about you!

notachance said...

Hey, I firmly believe in Keith's famewhoreness. I was always the one saying that the Mr. Humble act was just that, an act. I won't deny that there's is probably an element of the relationship that started out as a plus on the fame monitor, but that doesn't mean it ended up as a marriage because of that. And no, I'm not a bunny - I just a slight hop in my step that allows me to look at all angles, not just the one through the broken glasses.

And maclen - I will defend Keith when y'all think it's the thing to do to trash him. I am appalled at his so-called fans who think nothing of writing about him like he's less than nothing. If he's so unworthy then how the hell can you say you care? With fans like that why on earth would he want to put music on the table for you?

Imahick said...

I have never quite accepted that this was all about a contract to get success for Keith. Do I think NK has taken advantage of him? Yes.

I see Keith as a troubled soul...someone who did want fame and success...someone with very little self confidence and self esteem. I also used to think of him as very competitive and driven.

Kidman, in my opinion, needed to get married and appear happy for the sake of the public, especially when Tom was jumping on couches proclaiming his love for Katie ... and then, getting preggers and having a "real" baby. I mean everything about them was "better" than what he had with Kidman.

So ... she was engaged within 3 months of being seen with him and married less than a year later. Slam bam ... thank you, Mr. Kidman. Keith bagged himself an A list actress and Queen of his homeland. Mission accomplished.

Now I see a man who says he's found a balance between his career and his "private life" ... I HEAR him proclaiming it constantly ... over and over ... like he needs to convince someone, most importantly himself, that he is in love and committed and ABSOLUTELY, SAVED by his beautiful beautiful princess.

Maclen has said it most clearly for me. Thank you. She took advantage of someone who was vulnerable ... and is now in complete control. From the man who compared the importance of music to him to breathing...he was willing to give up playing music & touring for her...but I suspect Capital reminded him that he owed them a tour for having funded the Love Pain CD.

I would never have thought that Keith Urban would sacrifice his career and his music for a woman. But now, I think that somehow, she has convinced him that his very existance is because of her. He says it at his shows and in his interviews, after all. Without her, he wouldn't be here. He believes she saved him and he owes her his life. She is silent on the subject...in public anyway. She exerts her control in private.

I don't begrudge the man his happiness. I just don't buy that he's found it. If he has found that peace and balance he was talking about last fall, why did he end up in rehab for 3 months. It seems to me that since rehab, he's decided not to fight this anymore, but seems resigned to try to make it work. And he seems to be the only one committed to the relationship. That will wear thin in time...when he realizes that he is the only one really sacrificing and contributing to make this work. A one sided relationship like this ultimately ends in resentment and dischord.

If I thought for a minute that Kidman gave a crap about him, I'd be fine with this. Heck, I don't care if he is married to Kidman or not. I just don't like to think about what will be left of him when she decides she's gotten what she needs out of this and kicks his arse to the curb.

I also don't like to think of what will happen to his career over the next 18 months, as he continues to cancel trips, reduce tour schedules and appear uncommitted to his career, in order to carry her purse. It may be what he wants right now, but in time, it will come back to bite him in the ass.

Nicole planned this carefully, all to her own benefit.

Nicole wanted to make the movie Australia but it would be a long drawn out shoot and she would be stuck in the Outback for months.

First direct quote from Nicole Kidman regarding the project - as featured in Woman's Day interview, June 2005:

"Baz Luhrmann [Moulin Rouge director] is putting together a love story that Russell and I are interested in doing together, so I'd be thrilled if this worked out because it's important to all of us to put that money back into the Australian economy."

So she had to have known about the movie and what it entailed for awhile before this quote, because the interview itself would have been done earlier in the year 2005.

She met Keith January 2005:

"In L.A. for a dinner honoring famous Australians, Urban meets actress Nicole Kidman. The pair are first spotted spending time together in July, and Kidman becomes a mainstay on his Urban's Alive in '05 tour. By November Kidman is spotted wearing a sparkling ring on her finger as the two – who won't comment on the relationship – prepare to host Thanksgiving at his Nashville home with both sets of parents in attendance." (People Magazine)

Why the big rush? Because she knew she would soon be disappearing into the Outback and off the Hollywood Radar. She needed a reason to be in the news during this time so no one would forget her. Keith was hot, Australian, single, and talented, but he had his demons, he had huge debts and he wanted mainstream success so bad he could taste it. But he was heading towards forty and it hadn't happened yet. He was scared.

Enter Nicole, who offered attention, the status of a movie star wife, and all the material things he could ever want. Maybe even a part in the movie, somewhere along the line. And in return she needed him to worship her publically and be available for pictures.

Oh, and some sperm when the movie wrapped.

In a drunken fog he agreed. But when he was sober he was ashamed of it and so when anyone asked what was going on he got in a snit. He was in quite a few snits in 2006.

When the movie was pushed back to 2007 she was afraid he would get tired of the game. Twenty year olds still wanted onto his bus, she couldn't compete sexually on their level. She pushed the idea of marriage because then she would look less like a desperate aging actress shacking up with still another musician and more like Australia's Princess living a fairy tale. The Prince was in too deep to say no and his passivity soon had him shackled to her permanently.

He was so miserable he allowed his demons to take him over completely and he ended up in rehab.

Nicole made the best of it. Now she could play loving supportive wife without having to do anything but foot the bill for his treatment.

When Keith came out three months later all the girls who loved him had gone, either moving on with their own lives or scared/paid away by Nicole. Even his mother went home in disgust at what he had done to himself. And so, feeling guilt over all the pain he had caused, he tried to make the best of it and maybe someone else would love him again.

She told him 'no touring, I need you with me' and he rebelled. Just a little. So she said, fine, go tour. But you visit me regularly and I mean it. I need to stay in the news. And stay out of Nashville, I don't trust those people, they think they know everything.

Keith has never been good at saying 'no'. He figured he'd give it a try, because really, what else is there to do?

And Nicole goes to make her epic, confident that she will be in the news every month.

And if Nic does have a baby, she knows Marianne will be back. Marianne is a real mother. She mothered Keith, she mothered Belle and Connor when they came for the wedding.

She will mother a grandchild too and Nicole won't even need a Nanny. And it won't look like neglect, because the baby is with Grandma. And Grandma doesn't gossip.

That's what Nicole gets out of it.

Undecided, when you mentioned that, it reminded me of something similar she did when she hooked up with lenny kravitz back in '03. A few months in, she began to wear a huge diamond ring on her engagement finger, which of course set off tab. rumours wondering if they were engaged. One story noted when she was at some ceremony to recieve some award nonsense, she was wearing it on her left hand, and when she walked on stage, she had switched it to her right hand finger. But, although kravitz was well beyond his upturn in fame, and not being exactly hindered by being in a constant state of drug or alcohol induced stupors, was not in the postition to being manipulated into anything more than 6 month relationship. In fact, he was photographed partying with some brazilian pop star, or something, at around that time, but since kidman never spoke of it, it's hard to know whether that was in fact the reason for the split. In fact i read an interview kravitz gave a few months later, and said that he was engaged at that time... but to the brazilian pop star. sounds like she struck out!

banbotox said...

Well said undecided. Can't ever argue with the facts!!!

notachance said...

NK's whole thing with the ring with Lenny was to appear engaged for her "kids" sake. I recall her saying that as a mum she wouldn't parade "boyfriends" in front of her kids - but if they were secretly engaged (Lenny, Stephen Bing, etc), then she could bring them round. That was just her way of sleeping with guys and justifying not being sluttish. For quite some time, prior to her outburst at the Unifem dinner, it was speculated that was what was going on with Keith - just another roll in the hay with a rock on her finger that wasn't for real.

doublewide said...

undecided, you have just posted what i have thought all along. this was pre-planned a long time before NK met keith. he was the perfect stooge for her scheme. and notachance, why would he want to put music on the table for me? because i am a long term fan, and i have put food on that man's table, along with a whole host of other people that i know. if he put some great music out, and i'm not talking about that PAIN cd, and i could see some remorse from the man for all of his lies, contradictory behavior and deceit, then i could probably be won back over. i don't know. i have truly loved that man, and his soul, and i feel he has treated his fans like crap. notbuyingitinnashville is dead on....he couldn't care less about me, or any other fans for that matter. i don't know if his humble act was ever real, but i bought it. now i only feel insulted and used. so go ahead and jump all over me. i don't care.

I truly don't think Keith writes music for his fans. He writes music because that's what he does and we are his audience. I don't mean that as a criticism of the man, I just don't think most artists are motivated to produce out of gratitude to their fans. They do it because they must for themselves.

doublewide said...

i think you are probably correct undecided....in country music (not that keith is country, heaven forbid) your fans make or break you. it's just a very special relationship that develops between artist and fan, and between fans.

i'm just so disappointed in the man. i know he couldn't care less if doublewide attends his shows or not.

Imahick said...

I agree that Keith doesn't put music out for his fans...he writes because that's what he does and he makes music because that's what he does. He needs to do it. Remember...it's like breathing to him.

I think that Keith is likely a nice man, but he is very self centered, and needy. I believe that the only reason he is touring is because he NEEDS the adoration fix he gets on stage. (not to mention his label likely required him to do something to promote this album)

He isn't touring for his fans. He does this cause he loves it and gets a high out of it. If he didn't love it so much, he'd be carrying his wife's water bottle on set and hanging with her. He doesn't need the money...he only needs the "fix".

I do think that he is struggling still with his addictions. It sounds like he's still working on his issues, which is good news, and something that needs to continue throughout his life. Maybe he's cut back on his touring schedule in order to get a better handle on his addictions, who knows? But I don't believe for a moment that he is touring for the fans.

doublewide said...

undecided, you have given me much food for thought in your long post. i try so hard to see keith's side of things. maybe knowing how miserable he has been can get me back to the place where i don't think he totally sold out. if he did, in fact, agree to do this in a drunken state, and then the reality of it all set in and sent him to rehab. his PAIN cd doesn't bother me that much, and there are some songs on it that i really like. for me, it's his deceit and his lack of honesty and integrity that has totally turned me off. i WANT to believe in the man again. he has brought me much happiness and some wonderful friends. i'm trying here.....but he's sure making it difficult.

maclen said...

When you think about it, all musicans begin at a point of unknown obscurity. Its the time when their developing their music, and usually when they choose what genre they belong to. The most influencial and lasting choose the style they love, which they can go on doing for 30, 40 years. From the comments here, it seems urban was country, and had success with that, but now seems to be moving more and more away from that. Which might explain why his latest cd isnt selling as well, his country fans arent buying it. There's a resentment to urban for getting away from his "roots". It's happened before, garth brooks was huge in his day, but when he got into the whole "Chris Gaines" pop star thing, his career seemed to have collapsed. I've heard country fans are very loyal, but of course, only to a point, as long as the musican stays loyal to their music.

Doublewide, I just think he was blind-sided at a vulnerable time in his life by a woman who knows how to exploit weaknesses. Yes, he is an adult, but alot of men panic at 40 and ask themselves 'where am I going with my life'? And some of them make a bad choice of direction.

banbotox said...

undecided-I think you are right about that. She panicked about Tom and Katie and Keith was the perfect pigeon. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I must say, if true, her previous "ring" behavior is appalling.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck-it's a flipping duck and regardless of the set up-her behavior is sluttish.
