John Mayer & Keith Urban Crossroads

Lainey's column today:

It was taped last night. Third Lip was not seen. There was room for only one ego in the joint, it belonged to John Mayer. One source described it as follows: “he’s a rambling douche”. And his self-indulgent f-ckery wasn’t well received. Here’s an incident that sums it up:

The musicians had plenty of opportunity to prep. Of course they did. As the two headliners, they’re pampered and coddled, and nothing happens until they are ready. So as they take their places, a production member took to the stage to explain to the audience how the show was being filmed. This was told to me and I’m passing it to you to illustrate that Mayer had more than enough time to get set.

Once the audience had been briefed, they were ready to begin. And Keith began. And as soon as he began, John Mayer had to stop him. To the effect of: “I don’t want to be that guy who has to change his guitar strap but I’m using the blue one and I have to have the green one”. Or green to blue. And so it continued. A seemingly endless stream of consciousness as though the people sitting there actually cared about all the profundity spewing from his mouth. This however did not seem to faze Taylor Swift. Oh honey…

As such, I’m hearing that John and Keith did not exactly spark the kind of chemistry that everyone was hoping for. Because, ultimately, it’s always the John Mayer Show. My sources tell me Keith was not comfortable. And this of course makes a tour rather tricky. As I reported last week, the two were negotiating, and while dates have been tentatively marked off, yesterday’s developments could ultimately change the outcome, to say nothing of Granny Freeze Kidman. John Mayer’s reputation does not please her. She could kill it in the end.

My intitial reaction to the possible mayer co tour...despite the "supposed" great reviews of orbs tour last year...(and come on...was there ever a "negative review" of his tour?...no mention of the unchanging set list...(even a couple of the "multi-attending" monkeylanders brought that up!)...the monotony of the orb's novelty of the "catwalk to the pit of the crowd" and orb's oft repeated..."Who has the best seats now" seemingly at every show!)...orb is in a conundrum...forced to once again go on tour...first to support the poorly selling cd...but also I'd wager to "work overtime" to make up to the label for a deficitof costs that the poorly selling cd certainly cost them...and also trying to record a new album for the upcoming year and on top of all that...having to play valet and escort for every awards show this season that kidman is lapping up for the sheer exposure...(just noticed, jolie skipped the GG's and the SAGs...and is also rumored to skip the oscars...obviously jolie is too busy filming...a problem kidman doesnt have...but then again, when kidman was constantly filming she never seemed to miss them!...but I digress) Again, this possible co gig with Mayer sounds like a conferted effort to change things up that have not been going very successful for the orb. Or another take, orb is just jonesing to get out of kidman's tabloid shadow, and figures hooking up with mayer... who is actually a slight notch above even kidman in the attention whoring game...(mayer takes his vulgar shilling to twitter..himself!)...I figure orb would actually feel "at home" with attention monger mayer! And as to the lainey comment that kidman would not be "comfortable" with mayers rep...this coming from kidman who hooked up for about 5 minutes with rock wildman and "penis pierced" lenny kravitz...and the two-time "deadbeat dad" steve bing? I'd say more to the situation, kidman would be uncomfortable with the competition to the orb's sense of disfunctional and distorted outlook of "stability"...

The only negative thing I've heard about their crossroads was from Lainey. I've heard from many who were there and they thought it was amazing. They didn't sense the tension between Keith and John at all.

I read a blow by blow, finger by finger curling description of the making of NK's hair'do' for SAG.

All-up the hair must have cost her around $20,000; if not more if the style *stars* were flown in. The dress would have cost the earth, (not that she would have bought it), and she probably got the hairdo for nothing too in exchange for them, (cutter-stylist and colorist), revealing in the media every inch of creating it and getting their *names* OUT THERE - (The Huffington Post is running a vote 'for the best of NK's hair looks' - most surely arranged by her NEW management). Also she had to ditch the look that Sandra 'stole', albeit a version with silky natural hair with natural volume. Nicole actually has herself put together into a look that is not necessarily for the cameras, but for the directors and other actors - for them to see the possibilities of roles in her (because looks have always been the feature of her 'work') - and she knowing that they will bandy her name about just to get themselves the gig (allowing for her to not be 'confirmed' later), but just to get the ball rolling - that's how it works in Hollywood. She is happy not to deny or confirm anything thru the bandying period knowing that having her name thrown in the mix and thus also in the media keeps her 'visible'.

So much too for her comment that she does "not live in the fast lane anymore". Which lane does she think she is in right now?: since New Year!

PS: I don't think Nicole will be a happy camper when her husband's star rises higher than her own - it it indeed does ... We know how she felt at that level before.

(The John Mayer choice astounds me - don't understand it. One tenuous link is that Keith's lady's latest hairdo may launch a million hairdressing appointments just like Mayer's ex JA's did.)

PPS: I saw a lady on Oprah who had named her dog "Baby Girl".
(Always thought that pet name didn't suit a middle-aged woman). For Sunday OK.

Ha! It seems once again the NKusers have another embarrassment they want to sweep under the rug... or more than likely...into the "private section" of the site! Seems that while the orb was busy shooting the crossroads piece with mayer...kidman was snapped leaving a fertility clinic. I noticed a new thread over at the NKUsers site yesterday titled "New Photos Of Nicole Jan 26, 2010" with postings of pics of kidman leaving the clinic in a car. I actually didnt really give it much after thought...until just now I noticed Rememberwhen's last comment in the previous thread mentioning that kidman was seen leaving the clinic. So I decided to go back to the NKU site and check out what the "hubbub" and reaction was over there...and I now notice that the thread had been "moved" to the "private section!" So it actually got me to speculating as to why they would feel a need to do that? Clearly my intitial reaction is that kidman is so insecure...so, how can I say..."image consious"...that naturally she would be very desperate to get pregnant again...if only to have an excuse for not being able to get another film role! I can clearly read how she would claim the reason she is not gonna start another film right now is because she is with child! And then I recalled the lainey post how orb was filming with mayer...and no sight of kidman...well it seems kidman was at the fertility clinic instead. And another note on the pics of kidman at the fertility clinic...she was driven by a female aid or assistant...and of course...not the orb. It would seem to many that that would be an appointment that BOTH in the relationship would want to be in on, dont you think? How...so lalaland...orb MUST be around for the awards circuit...but not at an appointment at a fertility clinic! It would seem the NKUsers also noticed that potentially "sensitive" issue and stashed the posting away from prying eyes. But it seems pretty obvious nonetheless... kidman makes the decisions in that relationship anyways!

I too wondered about that thread being moved to the private quarters. Ordinarily, Kidman smiles all the while for the paps - and will have anything in print (and discussed) - hair 'done' or not.

Maybe it is work fertility that she is after. No, a child would be a very handy stop-gap for her right now. And if it were for a procedure as suggested, then I would definitely have thought Keith would be there ... well, at the sperm donation stage he will be, supposedly. Even if she was just doing an interview for advice, you'd think he would wanna hear it (whatever) too.

PS: the wisest move NK could do right now is STICK with the SAG hairdo all the time ... for a while ... to start to present a consistent person, happy with her (remaining) natural features - and the thing that got her noticed in the first place ... a natural head full of curls .... even though the SAG ones took a village to (re)create.

Clearly abc, the NKU powers to be saw a problem with those photos...and it isnt the first time since kidman's Nine promo that they have had to sweep another misstep into the proverbial "basement"...or in this case into the "private sector!" And clearly, photos of kidman at a fertility clinic minus the orb is not on her "image itinery"... which again, would also tell you this was not an official inept team kidman pre-arranged photo op! That would certainly explain the fansies pulling it off of the public boards. If you'll also notice, inept team kidman's arranged photo ops, in which kidman is a regular "grinning machine" for the sake of her "paparatz on staff", MUST have orb in them to further the "lovebirds" image kidman keeps fostering. But as these few couple of non official photo ops show a less than relaxed or even composed kidman...I mean, an obviously aware kidman NOW is very aware her career is over...and the desperate public flopping begins...that "dancing monkey and the orban grinder' routine is just a hiliarious sneak preview! And arent the fansies noticing that now...

sorry, I confused fertility treatment with IVF ... (hence my comment re Keith being there) ... wonder if the didgeridoo incident is playing on her mind? She should go for a swim again in the "fertility waters" of Northern Oz.

...as I ponder this...E-o' L-N- M's...i see it is only 3 more days til another round round of the entertainment's version of her "perpetual prom" proceedings...but this time it'll be orb's turn to be "king for the day"...or will it? Yes, the Grammys are this sunday, and it's time for me to once again polish off my usual "crystal ball" speculation a few days beforehand...to put myself out there...out on a limb...to...try and read the nights results. So going in the orb has 4 grammy noms...yeah, I know, puzzling...considering were discussing orb's cd, Defying Sales! And I most certainly agree whole hardedly with a monkeylander, who commented when the grammy noms were first announced last year and was truly amazed the orb picked up 4 noms...and that comment was to the effect, "The Grammy nom committee sure knew how to thank orb for his "help" at last years Grammys!" Yes, virginia, there are "if you scratch my back...etc etc...even in the entertainment industry! So, how could the orb do sunday night? He has 4 noms, and right off I'll mention that in the "Best Country Album" catagory orb is up against swifty...so scratch that award off for NOT going to orb! And...wait for it...orb is once again nominated with paisley for Colab/vocals for Start A Band. Am I once again getting an orb "half award prize" vibe here? But wait, orb also has his usual "vocal performance" nom again! So, ladies and germs...which is to be the orb's "almost like it's an obligatory award for simply showing up" award ? The vocal award or half award? Being the orb cynicist that I am, I gotta go with the half award myself! BUT... you gotta seriously consider...are the Grammys truly in the belief that the orb's tepidly reviewed and pitifully mediocre selling "Defying Sales" album is in the end THAT worthy of anything other than the consolation prize of half an award? I certainly dont believe so! And...we shall see...

...so, in this edition of...yada yada...back on the subject of the Grammys...and kidman. As the day draws near I was just pondering in what fashion...or...in what "clairol Nice and Easy" hair tint will kidman attempt to make another splash? I think someone made a mention on how kidman seems to make outrageous physical "standout statements" at the orbs award gigs...her "busting out" at the CMA"s...although much is talked of kidman's hair and dress at the SAGs...as Ive mentioned, she actually went "darker" the previous week at the Golden Globes and no one seemed to notice...I know I didnt notice at the time. Now, personally, I just felt kidman got pranked by someone into believeing that the SAG awards this year would be a masquerade ball and kidman went dressed as a gypsy...or she went dressed as Cher! But it does seem that kidman keeps "upstaging" the orb at his gigs. Will she do it again at the Grammys? And it is pretty telling when kidman makes the biggest media splash over her hair color or even the style of it...but then again, she got bupkis for ther role in Nine...and who knows, perhaps kidman can snag a gig hawking Clairol hair products...in Indonesia... of course!

the problem with the grammys for Nicole is the people who usually attend are way too hip, too young and out of her league
