Show Keith and Kidman What You Really Think

Are you going to see Keith this summer? Yeah, me too.

I have tickets for a number of shows. But after the display in Oz where the show was all about the marriage, and my fear that he will continue the “I love her, I really do!” tirade and the dedication of one of his most pedestrian and trite songs to her, I just can't support that.

So, I am giving him a chance. One chance to show me it is about the music and not his “brand new man” act. If I hear anything about her from his mouth on that stage, I am done. That's it! Pass in the songbooks. I won't go to the remainder of the shows.

That made me think: I have already spent my money for the seats (and I just don't buy one ticket), I bought at least four for each show. I decided that if I don't go then my seats should remain empty. I think anyone else who has already bought seats but does not want to listen to babble about his Once in a Lifetime Love shouldforgo the concert but not sell the seats. Leave them empty. Show Mr. Kidman that we are fed up and tired of the crap.

Now, before the bunnies and their like scurry over here to complain about how we've already spent the money, so it won't mean anything… well, I am also going to make sure that at every venue there is an entertainment reporter who will see the empty seats and ask why? As of June 25th, Mr. Kidman will be 36 million richer, so money isn't a factor. Playing to empty seats can do something to someone, even someone who supposedly doesn't care anymore about success or failure. Sorry, Keith, but the sideshow pushed out the only relevant factor in the equation and that is the music…

Keith, if you don't care why should we???

That is quite a problem, Urban myths, pre-buying the concert tickets. It's sort of like going to a movie, right? You have to pay before you go in and actually see the movie, and if the movie sucks, well, you cant ask for your money back. But of course the real test is the repeat business, which as I've mentioned before, cd sales would be a good indication of how Urban's doing commercially. And as Amelia said in the previous post, you might not see a noticicable decline just yet, since everything concerning urban is based on his previous cd and earlier sucess, and as you proclaimed in your post, lets see how things progress from here on out. Will others feel the same way about it? Judging by kidmans box office results, she certainly doesnt add much to the mix, and from what I read on this blog, she only adds nauseated groans.

Do I hear an Amen?

Mr. Kidman is going to be all around me this summer - within a four hour drive at four different venues. Had this been two years ago, I would have been at all four concerts. Not now! Sick of the sideshow like you can't imagine. Mr. Kidman, why didn't you proclaim your love for Laura and Nikki on stage? What? You were a private person then? Well go back to being that person - it suits you! Keep Sideshow Bob out of the audience, off of the screen and keep the public declaration of your love for Sideshow Bob away from the music. When you are on stage, it is suppose to be about the music, right?

Quite brave (or stupid, I'm not sure) of you to forfeit your hard earned dollars because he dares to mention his wife at a concert. But if I were at any of those shows that you did forfeit I would welcome the extra room it gave me to dance around and quite possibly not have your drink spilled on me!

That said, the die-hard skeptics (which you are obviously one of) have been lamenting this marriage for a long time. My question is - WHY would you buy multiple tickets to multiple shows if you really hated everything he stands for now? Me? I'm testing the waters and going to one (1) show and then I'll decide what to do from there. That seems a more reasonable, not to mention financially sound decision that would cause less anxiety over this whole situation.

Seems to me like you put yourself in your own corner and now you are laying the groundwork to make it Keith's fault.

Your failing to take into account the fact that the tickets for most of the shows went on sale before the European and Oz shows occurred. Even the diehard skeptics wanted to believe that he could be professional and make it all about the music and not include the sideshow. Unfortunately for us, he has proven that he can't do that and has to wax on and on about his amazing supportive wife, just to feed her need for attention.

Has it even occurred to him that venues he sold out in 2005 have not sold out. He made us wait a long time for his tour, and yet not a single venue has sold out and we are approximately two weeks before the start of the tour. If he's smart when he walks out on that stage he will make it about the music and not about his personal life. If he can't do that, then he's going to be looking at alot of empty seats. Already the album is not selling as well as his previous albums. Even if he is so screwed up that he can't see that his career is in jeopardy, the people who work the business end of his career are going to take notice, and maybe they will be able to convince him to save his career.

I don't think that has anything to do with anything. Based on what happened when they were ONLY friends, everyone knew she would show up at some of the shows - at the very least. No, I think the die-hard skeptics forgot what is was they were supposed to be fighting for and fell right back into their bunny ways of ticket buying. All they saw was that Keith was coming (oooh, I wish it was with me!) and did what they have always done in the past.

To me, this IS what separates a skeptic and a bunny. The people who are not professing to be total skeptics are the ones that are only going to 1 (one) show, yet the others who claim to sniff out the bunnies are acting like ones themselves by buying multiple shows and multiple tickets to an unproven product.

You tell me? Who's the wiser?

Notachance for the record I have only bought tickets to one of the shows myself and only to the show that is actually being held at a venue literally 10 minutes away from my home.

The shows held the summer of 2006 were pretty schizophrenic, some were reported to be like the old Keith shows and others left something to be desired. I myself traveled 5 hours last year to go to a show which I felt did not come up to the quality of the previous shows I went to. In 2005, I previously traveled to two out of state venues and also to two shows near my home and never felt cheated.

Even though the skeptics can see what's going on, there are differing degrees of skeptics and frankly old habits are hard to break. So maybe this particular skeptic bought her tickets, but due to recent events feels that she cannot continue to support someone who is throwing away his god given talent to become an apprentice at the knee of one of the world's biggest famewhores. He was there on the verge of superstardome in 2005, being acknowledged for his talent and getting career accolades, now he is known as Mr. Keith Kidman alcoholic, womanizing, drug addict, whose extraodinary wife saved him from himself and he just happens to be a Country Music entertainer.

You say potato, I say patato....

Funny, but I still see him as an extremely talented musician and entertainer and I personally do not allow myself to be drawn into the tabloid fodder of alkie, whoring, druggie country guy with the perfect wife that saved him.

I will give the man a chance and see what he's got - now. And quite frankly, I really don't give a shit anymore if the wife is there or not - provided he gives 100% the way he used to.

I can agree with you about giving him one more chance to see what he's got-now. As long as I get the 100% performance, I really don't care about the wife either.

I just feel it's a real shame that just about the only press he's getting these days involves the wife, so you can't escape from it.

notachance said...

We do have to remember that when two people get married they are supposed to be presented as one unit.

And there is a silver lining - at least her press always has the ball & chain of her cheatin', drinkin' & druggin' husband tagged on!

(Hey, it's all in how you look at it)

What pisses off the skeptics is the fact that you can't read an article anywhere anymore that doesn't either refer to him as Mr. Kidman, Nicole's Kidman's husband, or mention the Famewhore in it. We just want the music to be about the MUSIC, and we want the PR about his concerts and touring to be about just THAT, not about his "private" life.

i freakin can't stand the wife. she has nearly ruined the man. how's THAT for patato??

You know, I am a skeptic with some bunny tendencies..lol

I have tickets for a few shows and I will go to them even if Mr. Kidman pisses me off by mentioning he's beautiful beautiful princess (blick). For me it's also about the friends I will be with. I am sure he will still put on a kickass show.

I am really trying not to have my feelings about this marriage effect my time with him.

But he is making it very very hard. The lastest thing about taking a phone call from his beautful beatiful princess during an interview was just so unprofessional. You can't tell me that the phone call couldn't have happen before or after the interview. He/they obviously wanted everyone to hear how "in love" they are. I doubt that you would hear about something like that happening with another artist.

It's just stuff like that really needs to stop when he gets back here. We all expected this kinda crap would happen in OZ and Europe because that was the whole point of the marriage. To conquer them with the help of his extraordinary wife.

But if this kinda things keeps up, I and I am sure many more will not be buying tickets in the future.

Please just stop trying to convince us or yourself Keith how happy you are. Actions speak much louder than words

It has been kidmans second nature, since getting dumped by cruise, to exploit her personal life for career gain.
And it worked for a few years, she did end up with an oscar award. I seems apparent now that urban has taken a page out of her book and is now using his personal misfortunes to try and weave an engrossing storyline that he can sell to his public. I certainly wouldn't buy into it, as I'm a cynic. There seems to be a few optomists still on here who would like to wait and see how it turns out. Good luck.

It's not so much that I'm the optomist, it's more that I don't seem to care as much as you do about it. You (and I'm using 'you' as collective) seem to be taking all this much more personal than someone should. The internet has allowed that to occur. If there was no internet you would see a tabloid article, maybe call a friend or two and say WTF is he thinking and then go on with your life. That would be pretty much the end of it for you, but with this thing that connects us all you have access to a much larger network of others that may feel the same as you and you start feeding off of each other - it never gets a chance to leave you. Go back to Bruce Springsteen and whatwashername? that he married, the actress? All his fans were like WTF? But there was no internet back then to continue feeding the feeling and it died off (and thank goodness so did the marriage - see, there's hope).

I admit, I thought the phone call during the interview was suspect. And the fact that he called her his beautiful, beautiful princess was enough to make me puke. Shit, even if my own husband said that to me I'd say WTF?

All I know is I just feel better about me knowing that it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. It's their life, their careers and it will be a shame if Keith doesn't achieve what we all know he is capable of because of this marriage, but in the end I won't let it be any skin off of my back. I'm using this time to discover other artists, go back and revisit some music and forgotten about and just enjoying music in general. This is much healthier.

Wow, isn't that like cutting off your nose to spite your face type of thing? But hell, if you feel like throwing $800 or so dollars out the window, knowing full well Keith won't have a clue as to who you are or if you're there than so be it. Just let us know which concerts you were attending and if they're good seats. I'd be more than happy to fill in your seat.

I am a die-hard Skeptic with not a shred of bunny in me. I made a decision that I would not attend any KU shows this year. Instead, I would take my money and my time and see other artists.

For those of you that are going to see him, I hope you have a kick-ass show with killer seats. And I hope that he sticks to the music and leaves his sycophant persona backstage.

jannie said...

Well he will be 2 1/2 hours away from me this year, which is the closest he has been in about 6 years. Im not going nor do i want to. I do not want to hear about his personel life or his darn wife. In all that i have read about him of late he has lost all ability to think for himself and has to rely on her for approvel on everything. Which is really sad to see and hear. Maybe she needs to be reminded she is married to a man not a puppy she is trying to house train.

You know, when your trying to make it in country music, your personal problems, even alcholism, is actually a help in the business. Its been the norm and the image to be self destrictive, going back to Hank williams, and then even later with Hank Jr., just to name a few examples. When it comes to the image, it fits into the lifestyle of the genre. And it seems as long as it pertains to the music, the fans are willing to overlook the artists shortcomings and character flaws, and when they deviate from that, such as marrying into a perceived "hollywood" PR union, some people are not too likely to overlook those same shortcomings and character flaws for the sake of another fabricated and phoney photo op.

Again well said maclen!

The latest round of marketing is the taped phone message that the PTB are sending out to the masses. Keith telling us the tour is back in the states and that he guarantees us a great time.

Can you smell the desperation in the air?

maclen said...

So, banbotox, do you have any idea of what the US tour is? Because at this point its only natural to wonder when or how soon the wheels falls off the wagon, and he has to pause for another "pit stop". Will he make it through the entire tour, and will kidman even bother to show up for any of these shows, or will she be too busy? Enquiring minds want to know.

Urban Myths said...

Maclen, the tour starts in Phoenix on June 8th, ending on September 22nd in Canada. He has breaks every few weeks during the tour, which he has spouted off will entail HIM going to see "the wife" in Oz. All those intercontinental flights can't be good for his voice now, can they? It appears her "schedule" won't permit her to travel for HIM.

But don't get me wrong, those of us in the States don't want her fugly mug anywhere near the shows. The performances tend to be subpar and rushed when she is present.

banbotox said...

I can guarantee you that none of Keith's original fanbase (what's left of it) wants her at a concert as urbanmyths has said. Nauseated groans are only the tip of the iceberg if she is spotted.

When the time comes to pimp out for a photo op-I'd rather have him travel to her. I just don't want to be at a gig where he has extreme jet lag...10 trips back and forth will take its toll-in more ways than one.

musicmatters said...

I too have been concerned for the people who'll be getting the "post visit to the wife" concerts, but maybe they'll get the best ones of the tour. Let me explain my reasoning.

Think about this - when he runs back to Oz to do his duty - the concerts when returns to the states - MAY be performed by a guy who needs to feel masculine again and will be all about flexing his man muscles.

Just somethin' to think about.
