Tidbits from the news...

Excerpts from an interview and a review... And some news...

Keith Urban recalls Sac as a fun town

.......Nothing brought him as much attention as his June 2006 marriage to Kidman, the stunning blonde and Oscar winner for "The Hours" (2002), and his almost immediate entry into a rehabilitation center for alcohol abuse. He was in rehab for the first few months of their marriage.

The song "Thank You," the final cut on the album "Defying Gravity," would seem to tell that story. It's sort of his autobiography in verse – and a love letter to his wife.

"I wrote this song with Rick Nowels, who doesn't do a lot of lyrics, but he had this piece of music in his cache," Urban says. "When I got to the session, he played the piece, and it drew this song out of me. I don't know if I would have written it if I had sat down to think of a lyric or think of a title, so it's even more truthful. It's pure reaction from the music."

The song begins: There were nights where I was sure/ I wouldn't see the morning sun/ And there were days that seemed so dark/ I couldn't wait for night to come/ I couldn't stand to think about how/ My life slipped away from me.

"I think when it was finished," Urban says of the song, "I looked at it and thought, 'God, it's really out there, saying it very clearly.' I'm happy about that, because I don't know if I could have been as truthful if I had tried to write a song with that title or tried to write about wanting to express my gratitude to my wife and my love for her." ........

The review from LA:

....
Granted, Urban didn't directly address his well-publicized substance-abuse relapse and recovery on that album, and the closest fans got to a peek inside his private world during Sunday's show was when he performed "Only You Can Love Me This Way."
He dedicated the song to his wife, Nicole Kidman, "who happens to be here tonight, [and] I'm very happy about that.".......

is this finally his chance to cross over into the pop genre once and for all?

finally leaving the country bumpkins behind for the more sophisticated and cosmopolitan world of pop/rock?

gee, I just can't wait to see.

Um, maybe I'm interpreting this incorrectly, but he's not left CapNash. He's shifted publishers.

"We are honored that Keith chose UMPG as his global home for music publishing," said David Renzer.

Wasn't he self-publishing with--what was it? -- Guitar Monkey Music? Babble On Songs?

Not at all surprised that the cletus has once again taken a cue from kidman, who just recently fired her longtime publicist because her career is in the dumpster. And with the poor sales of his latest cd, cletus is becoming just as desperate. Although I dont read in that article that the orb has left CN...the new deal is about international publishing...have to wait and see if that is the case.

I don't think he's left Capitol for recording, he's struck a publishing deal with Universal. Can't the two be mutually exclusive?

Well surely if it is not the case cletus has left Capitol Nashville...for the moment... I wouldnt be at all surprised, as I mentioned in an earlier thread that based on cletus' lackluster cd sales if CN will be too keen on bankrolling another cd...anytime soon! So I wouldnt be surprised if in the near future it comes out he is out at CN. And of course it will be framed as cletus orb voluntarily "leaving" the label for bigger and better things! But the orb feels the need to try and juice up those mediocre cd sales, hence the new deal...he's certainly not hacking it in domestic sales, so they'll try to shill them out to the world!

I thought he was self publishing too. (I think Babbleon is correct?) I wonder what the advantages are to moving to Universal? I am not knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the music publishing world.

So, with kidman in LA to report to her typical first of maybe only 2 or 3 take-ins of cletus' show... I assume the filming of her film has wrapped. And a quick google double check reveals that filming began on July 1st...wow almost a WHOLE 3 weeks! I bet they had to rely on first takes of scenes to finish up principle photography before what lttle money they had to make it ran out. And I'll also bet they truly captured a real "masterpiece" in that short time! Which also begs to wonder about the woodman's film, which she supposedly passed on because it conflicted with her film. Well, with another google search, at frieda pintos fan site I found that production of woody's film has begun, and its dated july 15. So, big shot "movie actress" kidman couldnt wrangle or finagle a one week delay for shooting on woodmans flick? Or maybe even 2 weeks? Oh wait, right, her career is over, and I dont buy the cover story that she passed on the film! Or that the "true" reason she passed on the film could possibly be because she wanted to spend extra time with her kid...who is pretty much absent from the "regular" life of kidman and her asinine photo ops, say like suposedly on a beach, where a one year old may find so amazing and exciting... but the kid is packed away with the nannies! And, she would have had even longer work on woody's flick, which is reportedly in production for 7 weeks! 4 extra weeks of work kidman lost out on because she is a failure! Bummer.
