From the Mailbag...

Dear Keith Urban,

Instead of coming up with the lame prizes your management team is promoting, why not give us an album full of music worth listening to? We know you know how to do that. How about giving us a tour we can be excited about, a tour where Keith Urban brings it more nights than not? From what I've heard, lately you have been bringing it, but we need some consistency. This every two weeks taking a break and flying wherever the famewhore is has to stop on the next tour. You never really get into the groove, or when you do, then it's time for a break. Keith, I don't want gifts from you, you can't buy me back with Wii games or T-shirts. I want what I came to the party for in the beginning. I want the performer who was excited about performing, I want the performer who put out a quality product, and until that performer returns, I'll be spending my money on other acts.

Yours truly,
A Former Fanclub Member, Taking A Break....

WHOA!!!

Keith, I dont care if you are in love with a telephone pole. Just keep it private and give us what you keep being so angry at us for not seeing.

Wait, I'll give you a minute on that one. See, you keep wanting us to enjoy the music, but when we get everything else EXCEPT that, why hang on???

Too bad we can't form a union on this.

Dear UMyths,

Sorry to break it to you but Keith is coming out with another album. An album the skeptics said he wouldn't be working on until 2009. And that's obviously not the case. Any other fan club would be giving away items their artist is a part of. Just because you don't want them, doesn't mean nobody else does.

You can sit on your perch and try to tell Keith what to do till you are blue in the face. The past few years tells me it'll all be in vain. If you think the passion is gone, if you don't like that he makes an effort to be with his wife since he has the more flexible job, go spend your money on someone else. No one really cares. As soon as the next artist pisses you off for living their life the way they want you'll be on to someone else anyway.

Ok Dr. RC, I'm listening. Please explain to me why Keith's career always has to be the flexible one? Nic could be flexible and pick projects in the US. It would be easier for them both if she chose projects in the US instead of Oz, Germany, England, etc. Since SR was born Nic has worked more than Keith. Why does he always have to be the one to schedule around her?

TexasCourtJester said...

We know he's working on a new album. He said at the Opry he'd been in the studio. I believe we said we wouldn't get a new album until 2009, not that he wouldn't start working on one until 2009. I'd hope while they were "nesting" in TN before SR was born that he was writing up a storm. Following his usual time table of album releases we should have gotten a new studio album in late Oct / early Nov. So the complaint is we have to wait until 2009 for the new album, and no telling how far into 2009 at this point, instead of the end of 2008 for new music. It is unknown if we will even get a new single before the end of the year. One would hope he'd premier a new single at the CMA's on Nov 12 and drop a new single and video immediately after. Some of us are still "hoping" to see the DVD that was suppose to be released last year soon too. The rest of us have given up completely on the DVD. How long does he expect us to wait on a new album before we give up on it too?

Yes...Keith has made his career flexible or is that expendible? NK continues to work continuously, while her heart muscle is stretching with emotion for the baby she was yearning for (yet, went back to work four weeks after her birth...go figure?). Keith has been busy holding her purse and painting her toe nails. He hasn't had the time or maybe the interest to make new relevant music.

Fortunately, he was able to find a song from his 2002 album to put out. Crazy as it may seem, it actually got him to #1, and nothing he's put out since the fall of 2005 has been able to accomplish that. Now he's got a duet with Brad Paisley (reigning MV) which will get him some airplay. (Thank you, Brad)

It's really up to Keith. If he wants a viable career, he has put some effort in. He's coasting right now. The really successful artists are INTO their careers ... they cater to their fans and they look like they're interested. Keith has occasions where hints of the old passion arise, but she seems to suck that passion out of him very quickly when he's in her presence.

Some fans are going to stick around ... not all will leave, but lots of fans are moving on. There are many artists out there with talent, passion and "hunger" for success. Keith has lost his hunger and passion...at least that's what it looks like to me. Until he gets it back (assuming he will / wants to), many will move on to other artists who are putting effort into their careers. I personally find it discouraging to know that he doesn't really rehearse with the band, and essentially flies into town the day of the show to perform and flies out in the dark of night or early the next day. It shows no interest in putting on a great show. It shows no creativity. It's coating. Keith is coasting. I don't coast in my job and I pay too much for the music and tickets to his concerts to accept that from him.

In 2006 he could have been a cross over success but his personal life has gotten in the way of his career. Frankly I don't care about his personal life that was until he made it our business and tried to connect everything he does to it. Enough is enough he must know that when the fans are at the concert they there for the music not the sideshow. Kidman has done nothing but fed his fame addiction.

Exactly what I've been thinking for such a long time now.

Shut up about your private life and sing/play music that you are so capable of producing. Our (what's left of your fan base) patience for you ain't going to last.

So basically he's taking longer to make an even more crappier cd than the extremely painful cd? YEAH for the fans of his!!

Why do I think it'll be continued crap? How can you do anything of substance with how he's lived as a water boy for the past couple of years. He's uninspired and uninspiring.

What is even worse is the state that his fanclub is in.

It is downright embarrassing to be a part of it.

It is filled with very young girls, and pathetic middle aged women who are so lonely that they make complete idiots out of themselves and don't realize they are the laughingstock of the internet.

There is one group who is filled with pathetic women that actually think people are jealous of them. When it comes right down to it, I guess it is kind of sad that people have hit rock bottom like that. When you read some of their comments.......it makes you feel embarrassed for them. They obviously have no lives filled with real people. At least they have provided many with laughs at their expense. If you are ever feeling down......go and read their comments.....and I guarantee you will feel much better about yourself.

It is no wonder that Keith stopped doing fan club parties. Who would want to be associated with that?

I hope the new cd is fantastic.....and Keith gets his ass in gear.......so that I can enjoy MANY more concerts. (hopefully he will stop dedicating songs to Nicold also.)

His website (fanclub) is an example of how little it appears that he cares about his career. That site represents Keith. Yet, what kind of message does it give?

1. News is old. By the time info reaches the fansite, it's already all over the net.
2. The message board is indeed juvenile. I know that they can't allow total freedom to say what you want on a fan site. I get that, but some of the exchange is embarrassing. And when there is an exchange discussing an issue like, for example, poor pre-sales, the posts are deleted and "order is restored."
3. Pre-sales stink. I know it is possible for an artist to ensure his fans get good seats. Keith's peeps don't see that as a priority, so in general, the fans the worst seats during the pre-sales. This for me is a huge issue and why I didn't re-join.
4. BSE's appear not to be fairly awarded. Some fans have had more than one, while many never get the opportunity.

Generally I don't see alot of advantages to being a member. The KUTubes were interesting, but not enough to warrent the membership fees. There is little personal interaction with Keith. He could blog. He could answer some questions regularly. He could do more videos. He could do something to reach out and communicate with his fans. It doesn't have to be alot of time spent, just some effort.

The lack of involvement by Keith is an example of why I think he is coasting. He is just not interested. His fan base is not a priority. It should be one of his biggest priorities, career wise. His fans are the people who buy his CD's and attend his shows. They promote his music, making sure it gets "out" there. He's disengaged...and until he puts some effort in, he will continue to lose members. I've heard there's been quite an exodus.

Truthfully imahick, he hasn't had ANY involvement for years, including prior to NK. That has always been a gripe of fan club members. All of the problems you cited with his fan club have been going on for the past 4+ yrs, not just since NK came into his life.

Sonora and RC-
It's ok to come out of the closet, other people have done it now it's your turn.
I can only surmise you continue to come here for one reason and one reason only, cause you agree with what is being said here you just dont have the balls to admit it yet. Dont worry we've all been there, we've all wanted to believe Keith was what we made him up to be in our heads, but now we know the truth. He's a user and an abuser, he used the fans he had to get fame, he's using Nicole to get more fame, he'll drop her like he dropped his fans once he gets what he wants from her. You can say till your blue in the face were wrong, but wait for it, it's gonna happen.

you made several good points, but this is the same reason i didn't rejoin recently. keith and his people continue to ignore the pre-sale debacle. yes, i got the "we want you back" e-mails from echo. they offered last year's program, a "you look good in my shirt" tee, which had potential yet failed, and dropped the price of membership. sorry, i'm not interested in forking over another $24.99 unless pre-sales become a priority.

back to the subject, i really really hope the new music is great. i could easily eat some words over that....as long as urbanfan said, it's not all dedicated to Nicold

Im not a skeptic, Im a believer!!!
I dont put any dimes, nickles, or pennies in his pockets anymore, nor do I waste any time on him. Havent bought a cd in years, last concert I paid to see was in the summer of 06, wont buy the cd, or that DVD you know the one we've heard about since 07. As for the fan club, dont make me laugh. The last dime of mine they saw was in 06. I found other artists who had what Keith himself once had and Im happy to drop my dollars in their pockets.

Country music fans, at least here, are fickle, fickle, fickle. They take this stuff seriously.

When they watch his apparent lack of humility at the gifts THEY so richly heaped upon him, and they see the disingenuous way he is now, it won't be long until he's, who can I compare it to. . . .Billy Ray Cyrus. If Keith would like, he can wait until Sunday grows up, and play "Memories of Us" until the cows come home at her 16th birthday party.

I see his treatment of his fan base as the difference between being an artist and a star.

Country music fans have little use for stars. They want musicians and someone to entertain them. That's one of the reasons Nashville is so user friendly to them, NO ONE CARES who you are or to whom you are married, we just want MUSIC.

Unknown said...

I've been a fan so when I make the comment I am about to make I dont want anyone thinking otherwise.

keith has always had trouble just giving us the music and I do think that's why he's had such issues. Sorry, but he has. He can't just keep it about the music.

I'm afraid he passed his best a long time ago.

Lauren Bacall is so funny. Now all we need is for her to pay out on Keith's lack of a music career these days:

"I'm afraid he passed his best a long time ago."

lisa - I'm afraid you might be right on with this statement - sadly. I think if he became a bit more philanthropic with his music he could start a second career in Nashville. Not saying he won't still be able to tour successfully on his past, but I really think he should redirect at this time and rediscover his creativity through others eyes.

choice - I think Lauren Bacall knows that NONE of today's crop of *stars* will never garner legend status, not just NK. I don't think the word legend could ever be used again for Hollywood, that era is over.
