Commentary on Keith Urban's Fan Club

Commentary On All the Fan Club Unity Projects

I was thinking about this whole unity sign and clapping thing that the "true fans" wanted to do in Chicago and will probably try to get going at other venues. I think these “true fans” need to analyze their motives. First, any type of mass use of signs and clapping through an artists songs is rude to the artist and also rude to your fellow concert attendees. Any demonstration of this magnitude is not about you making Keith feel special, but it's about you getting noticed/recognized for organizing something. Don't you know that the best way to make Keith or any performer feel loved and appreciated by his fans is to simply sing one of his songs back to him. Have any of you “true fans” not noticed the beautiful, rapturous look on Keith’s face when the entire crowd sings BFTGOG back to him, it makes him feel special, like someone is listening to his music, that he's truly appreciated. I am not saying sing back loudly every song during the concert, but to just go with it, sing to him, make him feel loved by the crowd. Not doing it for recognition, but doing it just because that's where the music takes you that night. Some of you have gotten so caught up in planning the road trips, that you’ve forgotten what Keith tried to teach us which is to live the moment, to “Be Here” at the concert and just experience everything about you, the music, the crowd, everything that makes the moment special. When we are there living the music, Keith is there enjoying performing. All Keith want’s you to do is bring yourself and enjoy the music, if you can remember to do that, then the moment in time that is that concert will take care of itself.

Keith needs this right now, especially if what we suspect is true and something or someone has eroded his confidence and he's nervous about how he is going to be accepted back after having to spend time in Rehab.

brilliantly put! I completely agree with every single word.

Bravo! And Keith basically made this same point today on the Canada AM show when he said that what means the most when he's touring and performing is having the audience sing along to his songs. That the most special moments are when he, the band and the crowd are all in the same zone enjoying the music together. I think he called it "the bomb"!

Excellent! I can't imagine throwing down a lot of money to travel to one of his shows and having even one song ruined by people in front of me holding up signs.

There are so many other ways to show him that we care that don't distract him or others from the show.

I came to post this very thing and "music" did a great job of it already.

The MAN himself said that's what means the most to him. What more would a "true fan" wish to do? Anything else distracts and is not about him, but you.

Beautifully said. I have been at shows where people planned and plotted what they'd do to show Keith some love...but in truth, it was what could they do to get noticed. And sometimes, I think they do it to see if they can get a meet & greet or other perks, by showing how much of a "true fan" they are.

But in the end, those are simply "look at me" displays that do nothing but potentially distract Keith and definitely distract other concert goers. As the blog & others here said...sing his songs and show him you enjoy the music that way. That's how HE knows you support him and his music.

Bravo and very well said. I totally agree!!!!!!

EXACTLY! This issue was crystalized for me when (fcp '05) one of the leaders of the pack wanted us all to sing a song she wrote for Keith, to the tune of "Stuck in The Middle With You". It was silly, it wasn't tasteful and for heaven's sake, it would have taken time away from what Keith planned for us. I have never been so outdone with a bunch of women as I was during that fiasco. Thankfully the fc president put an end to it.

Bunnies holding up signs in front of my face makes me want to hire Elmer Fudd!!

Finally! A commentary I can agree with and one that I WOULD want Keith to see.

These are the same people who think Keith reads his own board, listens to their opinions, eats the buckeyes they make for him, and saves every stuffed monkey they give to him as a gift.

Face it gang you are a consumer of a product and easily replaceable!

If these people had any brains, they should realize there is a thing called concert etiquette. To continue to cheer and clap during the entire song is being very rude and disrespectful to the performer. Just like you really shouldn't leave your seat during a song, but wait to get up when they are done with the song. Just sing along with the man - that's what he truly loves!

I totally agree with this. The unity stuff that his "true" fans think up is silly and a complete waste of time. BUT it makes them feel important and special-and that is the "true" agenda of those fans.

Is there any wonder why the MV fc seats are in the back of the venue or up with the pigeons?

Sing when he asks you to, clap when he wants you to-that's what will make him (and the band) feel loved. You can clearly see it on his face-he loves it!

It's just another attempt to believe Keith will reach out to them and take them in. Delusional Monkey Fans is what they are

I much prefer the "unsolicited" look KU gives you while playing right in front of you. I could care less about the bunny signs. I'm ready for all signs to be banned at this point. I wanna see the show, not your sign!

And what's with the group of grown women constantly coming up with the projects, i.e., scrapbooks for Keith and his mom, the wedding card project, etc? What is wrong with these people???? It's downright embarassing. One of the reasons I didn't re-join. I don't want to be associated with these people!

I'll tell you what's up with that...the first one was put together by a gal on the board and she got called on stage at the fcp and singled out. She worked hard, so good...Keith said thanks. But now a bunch of them want to be in charge of a project. They LIVE through the board and all the drama in their lives is right there on those webpages.

Speaking of "projects" please don't forget the Nabru! Seriously they pass the monkey fron concert to concert and take pictures with it. One word for you....LAME!

Honestly, the just don't get that once a project has been done over and over again for the 20th time is ceases to have any meaning, except to be annoying. I think the volunteer project has it's heart in the right place, just as the birthday project to raise money for St. Jude, but everything else just makes those organizing the project look pathetic.

LOL...now they want us to wear yellow ribbons to identify ourselves as one of the 'monkey' family.

On another board someone suggested that they just shove a banana up their ass to be able to ID each other....

I like this idea much better!
