Doesn't Keith Urban Deserve A Better Life?

Living in the spotlight isn’t very glamorous. If you needed conformation of that fact, just take a look at country star Keith Urban. A few weeks ago he was released from rehab after only 4 months of marriage to Nicole Kidman. Keith gave his fans a heartfelt video message about his ordeal that was shown on his web site. Moving ever forward, Keith has announced his new concert tour for the US and Europe.
Keith’s 3 month rehab turned out to be a photographer’s dream come true. Why? I bet you can name that tune in 3 notes-movie star wife.
Nicole has the perfected the use of the photo op and somehow many of those pictures were released to the press-keeping her name and face, Keith’s as well, on the front page of every gossip publication. Public or private moments, it doesn’t seem to matter. Every moment is there for exploiting.
Thanks to Nicole, we (the general public) have had the unique opportunity to view the grounds of the Betty Ford Center while Keith was an inpatient. We have had the chance to watch them at a summer carnival. We have even seen the stuffed animal that Keith won for her at a carnival game. We have witnessed Nicole without her make up-playing the role of dutiful wife. We have seen them driving to Nicole’s lavish properties in Australia and had the unfortunate opportunity to see Nicole’s mental melt down on the side of the road.
Once out of rehab, we were again treated to a photo of Nicole and Keith at an awards ceremony that is known for free flowing alcohol and out of control behavior. This certainly is where you would expect to see the newly reunited happy couple.
Everyone that knows Keith Urban is aware of his past. He has been very honest and open about his problems and has tried to move beyond them. His personal life had been very private up to the time he began dating Ms. Kidman. Paparazzi didn’t follow his every move and he lived in Nashville as a regular person, continuing to build his musical career. Keith now finds his private life strewn over the pages of any magazine so Nicole can keep feeding her ego.
Yes, he has a career all of his own and didn’t need her money to begin or revive it. Keith is an extremely talented musician with an extensive musical portfolio.
There was no skirt tale relationship or gravy train here.
Living in the spotlight does allow all of your insecurities to show. One that is flashing in neon now appears to be how much attention Nicole will continue to require to keep feeling relevant. It never ends…
Keith certainly deserves a better life.

Thank you for speaking the truth.

Keith does deserve better. He never needed her to become famous. He was well on his way thru talent and hard work alone. One day I hope that he realizes that.

It's sad he has been reduced to what he is now because of his fame whore of a wife. He had it all going on before she came along. What a waste.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this! The other artice about the wife was bruttal. He ain't a saint but neither is she. Keith does not deserve to be slammed because he is married to her.

I completely agree with everything that has been said. Since he married that woman I have yet to see him look happy. His privacy has been completely eroded away because his publicity seeking wife needs press attention wherever she goes. Poor guy!

Excellent!! You know, after really listening to the lyrics of Stupid Boy, I think it should be renamed to Stupid Girl.

i agree Keith has looked absolutely miserable since they got together....she is a selfish, self-absorbed, typical A-list actress, who cares about nothing but promoting herself and her own agenda...keith did not need the likes of her to advance his own career...i wish he would have realized it....

Interesting how his life became "unmanageable" after he married, isn't it?

Funny, but I read something just recently that said women like Nicole should not marry because it can't possibly work. Hmmmm, where did I read that? Oh that's right, in the David Thompson book. Quite the read actually.....

Thanks for saying what many of us have been feeling for some time. Keith Urban is a talented musician. He didn't attach himself to Kidman to gain fame and to suggest that he needs her for that is ridiculous. She may have benefited from the publicity of the relationship with him...but vice versa..not a chance. In actual fact, this private man's reputation has taken a beating since getting involved with Ms Kidman. I hope that he gets back to the music and is able to keep his private life out of the limelight. He needs to make it about the music again...and leave the little woman out of it.

Bravo! Someone finally "got it right this time"! This is a marriage that should've never taken place. She's been playing him like a fine tuned guitar since day one! Hopefully, he'll wake up & realize it before the reputation he worked so hard to achieve gets destroyed any further.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone ever considered the idea that he might actually love her? Everyone has hard times....
give the guy a break.

I am sure he would be thrilled to hear you guys are so supportive...Jeeze!

I agree, who are we to really know what goes on behind closed doors?

As much as it burst many peoples fantasies of being 'the one' to marry Keith this is in fact a real marriage, there were guests, a priest, vows, rings, dress, family. She did not create the dependant tendencies that Keith has, he had those way before she came along and for anyone who's had addiction problems you know that it's up to you for your own sobriety and recovery.

He had it going on before she came along and he's still got it going on...just a little different now and if you ask me his new album kicks ass on "Be Here" and I don't really care if it's her influence on Keith or not...it's good to have new music and for me that's what it's all about THE MUSIC!

Anonymous said...

Maybe you should get a life?

Anonymous said...

Pen, no bubbles bursting here. Never wanted to be "the one". Why do some think any fans that have problems with what has happened to Keith since his marriage must be jealous and wanted to marry him?

I guess they think that way so they don't have to look at the truth of a man that goes to rehab for 90 days 4 months into his marriage.

Anonymous said...

Right ... it's all about the music. It's too bad Keith has forgotten that and makes it all about his 'wife'. When is he going to recall these words that he said oh so long ago that "music is like breathing"? We haven't seen THAT guy since, oh say ... July 2005. And we have his "selfish, self-absorbed, typical A-list actress"(to borrow an above- mentioned quote) wife to thank for that. It's too bad that she has to bring him down to make herself look better and make people have sympathy for that "poor Nicole" act that she's always using. He certainly deserves better ... what a waste.

Anonymous said...

You know...I've read the "happy ever after" stories about their marriage and at first I thought..wow...two aussies...why not? But after the last eight months or so, I really think this marriage is a mistake.

Nicole is a talented actress, but I don't really think she's willing to commit to someone. In spite of reports of her "living" in Nashville, people in the know say she wasn't there very much at all. She has a very active career...whether you like her movies or not ... and I don't see her making ANY sacrifices for Keith.

Keith has made sacrifices for her and where has it gotten him? Reduced touring and a disconnect from his fans. A 90 day rehab stint 4 months after he entered that "happy" union. He looked ANYTHING but a happy newlywed. Yes, he has a history of substance abuse...he was handling things up til the relationship and it all went to he!! after four months of marriage.

The marriage makes Nicole look desperate. It makes Keith look like a womanizing, alcoholic drug addict. He is becoming Keith Kidman, as he is over shadowed by her brighter star. The relationship is not good for either of them...but for him, it's personally and professionally harmful.

If they love each other...and I haven't ruled that out ... it doesn't mean this is a healthy relationship. Some unions are just not meant to be and for the life of me, I've rarely seen two people together that look more mismatched.

Anonymous said...

Honestly, I could care less if he stays married to Nicole or not, my problems with this marriage stem from the beating he has been getting in the media and the fact that Keith has not looked happy in one picture since the announcement of his engagement. I hate that Keith is maligned in the media because he recognized that he needed to return to treatment for addiction issues that he had been battling for years. I seriously doubt that this would have made one cycle of the gossip rags and gossip shows had he not been married to Ms. Kidman.

I hate that Keith's privacy is invaded on a regular basis because Ms. Kidman needs another photo op.

Anonymous said...

Pen, You can be supportive of someone and not agree with the choices they make. It's alot easier to see a mistake when you are not in the midst of that mistake. Love may be blind but everyone else still has their eyesight and what we are seeing is not a normal newlywed couple.

So sad that you were speaking what many, many of us have noticed. I hope and pray that Keith Kidman ends his farce of a "happy" marriage and becomes Keith Urban again. I really miss that guy!

Yeah, Pen,,, you said a mouthful....DO YOU???? Judge not let ye be judged......sound familiar???? Opinions....you know that saying???? So, respect others opionions, you have one and it seems so do others, therefore, why jump? Unless your pissed that it seems more have the SAME opinion that is not YOURS????From ETOY to the way he is now...if that is LOVE I want NO part of it!!!Still got it going on? I think not, but that's MY opinion, he is not HALF the man he was before July 2005...what's the difference?? He is NOW Mr. Kidman.

Pen said...

Well what about respecting my opinion?? I'm not jumping on anyone, just stating MY OPINION as all of you have. It seems that a few of you JUMPED on me because I didn't agree with all of you.

Monkeys throw shit much??

I'd be happy if you all would quit complaining. July 2005 what a crock of shit. He met her in January '05 and he was long gone from the "music to me is like breathing" man he used to be. Just because you think he's lost something doesn't mean it came directly from being involved with her. Fucking morons you all are.

Anonymous said...

True ... he MET her in Jan. 05. Too bad he had to start in his 'we are having a nice friendship' with her in July '05 ... pure technicality. Let's just say becoming 'involved' with her only accelerated the process. I can complain if I chose to as is my right or anyone elses asshole.

Anonymous said...

He met her in Jan 05. She gave him her number. He didn't call. She showed him what she could offer him PR and money wise, so in July 05 the "were just friends" started. She flashed the ring after he won EOTY to take advantage of the talk about him AND turn it into talk about her. He asked for the relationship to slow down in the May 06 timeframe, the next Monday she told People they were engaged. Keith bolted, wasn't anywhere to be found for the next few days and didn't want to talk about it when he finally surfaced. People in love don't mind talking about it. They married, 4 months later he is in rehab. Yes Keith deserves better. He deserves a woman who will love him for who he is, a woman who will lift him up, NOT one who will use his successes for her PR.

Anonymous said...

Well then I guess some of you will remain unhappy for quite some time.
Once this farce is over we will quit responding to all the crap that is being written about him but until then expect that the complaining and the call to end the fraud will continue.

notachance said...

All interesting obversations/opinions. Only time will tell. I do believe that Keith must love her, or at least thinks he loves her. Those first couple of years in a relationship I don't think you really know your head from your ass so we'll just have to wait and see.

Can't wait for the reviews from the Chicago show. Will be a good indicator of where his "music" head is at.

i really don't feel sorry for him. his career was doing just fine without that fame whore. that is sad he had to seek that low to marrying some "so called actress" to better his career? did he not believe in himself? did he not trust his fans & belive in his fans that we would make sure he got to the top on his owne? to me he dosn't care about his fans he cares more about going to the after parties awards to mengle with the "stars" which is way out of his league. keith lets face it your just a typical county star who likes to drink beer out of a bottle & eat bar b q with your hands and that fine by me i like it too. keith has turned into some country diva and i don't like that side of him. heck look at kenny chesney he did not need some "actress to get him where he is at today. he has paid his dues in nashville, he has worked his ass off and now he is selling out in staduims. keith could have a better life if he chose to have a better life but guys lets face it he chose to have a fame whore life.

Don't all you overweight, middle-aged, single women (because no one will have you) have anything better to do than read tabloids about famous people? It amazes me that you read this crap and take it for gospel. You really do lead sad, insignificant lives, don't you?

Anonymous said...

Interesting how his life became "unmanageable" after he married, isn't it?

I have to agree with this. Maybe he wanted to give marriage a try, but he sure seemed to pick the wrong woman. IMHO

Anonymous said...

Well...what I find sad is the attacks on people expressing opinions. I don't have a problem with opinions about Keith and Nicole...whether I agree or not, but the nasty attacks are pathetic. You need to get a life and not worry about what people on blog sites are saying.

As far as this marriage...it's never "looked" right to me. I think he must love her...and maybe ... if Kidman is capable...she loves him. But they look so uncomfortable together.

And sadly, after four months with the constant media attention and pressures related to that relationship, he crumbled.

I think she's a good actress. I have been to a few Keith concerts and I know how talented he is. I hope that they both realize that this marriage is poison and get out before more damage is done to his career. I can slowly feel the momentum dying. So many long term fans have decided to move on because of the changes we've seen in Keith. Some of this might have been on the way prior to Kidman, but it sure became 100% obvious after she was on the scene.

I don't know if he will pull off the 2007 tour ... put on a he!! of a show....fill arenas...his fan club is in a mess right now and alot of people are disillusioned. I guess time will tell. If they stay together and he can get focused back on the music...OK. But as long as he's with her, he'll be Keith Kidman in the media and that drives me nuts.

Anonymous who posted at 8:21 a.m. it's not about whether one takes it as gospel or not, it's about the fact that it is out there and people who do not have a clue who Keith Urban is, will read the article and arrive at opinions about the man. Those who follow the man's career understand and realize the difference. Those who don't have a clue do not. You may ignore tabloids but they are there for your average John and Jane Doe to read while in the checkout line ... and that average John or Jane Doe reads, shakes their heads and goes whatever and more than likely leaves with a less than favorable opinion in their mind of Keith Urban, an opinion that has nothing whatsoever to do with how good of a musician he is .... and THAT is the issue.

Anonymous said...

8:21 am. You are here. Did you count yourself in with your nasty little comment? Since you are here, you must have some interest as well. You can leave your opinion, but do you have to be so rude to the other posters?!

I noticed that someone earlier said something earlier about the David Thompson book. I'm in the middle of it. Curious, since this blog is a skeptic baby, has anyone from there actually taken the time to read it?

Anonymous said...

She crammed her phone number into his pocket in January of 2005 but he never called her. SHE went after him. He already had a girlfriend and if his tabloid tales are true, probably still does.

Anonymous said...

If I recall Keith thought she was engaged at the time, maybe that's why he didn't call at first, although I will say I think he was smitten then. And I'm not so sure those were the words used - "crammed into pocket".

From a personal point of view, I live in the UK, and Keith Urban is now known as a womanizing druggy drunk, rather than the talented man he really is. No body over here could have cared less about him, but now he's mr Kidman, he has his fame over here.. pity its for being such a loser.
I think he's naive as regards the paps, whereas Nicole is a consumate pro at manipulating the media.Thats why she will come out of this smelling of roses and he will have to restart his career if he's lucky!

chocoholic said...

I wish Keith had believed in himself enough to realize he was already well on his way and would achieve success on his own talents and abilities rather than who his famous wife is.

Now, instead of being known for his accomplishments, his fame is calibrated in "celebrity".

He deserves better, but HE is the one who has to believe it.

I find it hard to believe that the covers of National Inquirer, US, Star & Hoochie Mama Weekly was his goal.

For 8:21am: First off, I'm not interested in Keith Urban being my "better half and havin' his babies." He's not my type; never has been, never will be. You can find those people over on his fan club message board; they call themselves "Monkeys."

Second, I certainly don't believe everything I read, but I do know Keith Urban has changed since he met his "wife." And it ain't all for the better, I can tell you that. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear some reviews of upcoming shows. Right now, all I see is somebody who wants to be a rock star like Bono and who's more interested in hobnobbing with the rich and famous and flying around in his wife's private jet. It's pretty obvious that his music is taking a back seat to fame and fortune. I'm actually sick to death of hearing about him every time I turn around. Enough already!! Funny how this doesn't happen with other big stars like Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, George Strait, etc. They manage to keep their PRIVATE life PRIVATE. I've heard Mr. Urban say on more than one occasion that he doesn't like talking about his private life, yet every chance he gets, he's talking about how in love he is and how happy he is. He doesn't look like a man in love and he certainly doesn't look happy. Especially after ending up in rehab four months after his marriage.

Anonymous said...

Has Keith changed because of Nicole or was this in the works already? His music and career began to skyrocket even before Ms. Kidman graced us with her presence. It's a given being married to him has brought him more to the spotlight. I doubt his rehab stint would have been anything but a small blurb in the papers, but since he's married to Nicole it's been plastered in every rag available and on TV. I guess what I'm saying is that I certainly didn't expect Keith to remain the same accessible person. It just doesn't stay that way when you're fast becoming a star. It's pretty much that way with everyone who achieves fame and fortune. The more you have the more you have to distance yourself from the fans and protect yourself and your assets. That's just life as a celebrity.

So does this make you skinny, young, and married because everybody wants you? You don't have to read the tabloids to see how unhappy he is. Take a good hard look at the pictures that were released of the "low-key event that took place in Australia". The man looked like he was higher than a kite on his wedding day, and I am sorry the high was drug-induced - not from being excessively happy either! Nice honeymoon pictures - instead of looking like a couple that had been married for a few days, they looked like they had been married for a few decades. If you are a true fan of the man and the music, you can read everything on his face. Will we ever get the old Keith Urban back? Nope, I don't think so - this "marriage" will be the monkey on his back that will never go away!

Anonymous said...

Boy...I can't agree more about him deserving better. His reputation has taken a beating. I did NOT want to know this much about Keith (the whole Amanda story was just a bit too revealing!)Urban ... and I never would have PRIOR to NK. I don't even think he'd have been to rehab without the additional stresses that relationship brought to his life...but if he had, it would have been a blip on the news. Instead, we were treated to weeks of hype...and those pictures in the tabloids that surely were taken by someone planted on the grounds of BFC...how else? They made him look depressed and unhealthy (which he was) and made NK look like a saint. She traveled all over the world, shot a movie and went home for Christmas, while she supported her husband in rehab..PULEESE.

She has milked the relationship for everything she could get out of it. He has been harmed personally and professionally by it.

And if you are a fan of Keith and haven't seen the impact this relationship has had on him...you must be a new fan. Anyone who has been around for more than a couple of years couldn't miss the changes...the lack of sparkle, the change in his intereaction with the fans, the lack of humor.

Those who know the real Keith Urban would like to see that man back. Whether this is possible at this point remains to be seen. Perhaps it is just plain too late.

Keith Urban uses capitals now...your info is outdated. He dropped the lower case years ago. And I think you'd have a bit more credibility if you refrained from using foul language toward other posters...IMHO.

Anonymous said...

I'm quite aware that he uses capital letters in his name now. My point was and is, that if you were a fan for years as many of you state you are, you would refer back to the "old" Keith prior to capital letters. That guy has been gone since early 2004 and nothing that Nicole Kidman did can change that. You all seem to be so wrapped up in blaming her that you forget that he has a mind of his own and was well on his way to Hollywood LONG before she ever came around. To continue to blame someone you've never met or even associtated yourself with makes you look like a fool. No matter what language I use. And no, you will not EVER see me post on any KU website, board or whatever else.
